5 comments about No Need for Tenchi!, Vol. 8: Chef of Iron.
- The gangs all here in the 8th book of the No Need For Tenchi Serise! Yume comes to visit Washu at Tenchis Grandma's place and all heck breaks loose. Also Sasami goes to Tokyo in a cooking compition. This book is just a wonderful!!!!!!!
- This one is cute and pretty funny. It's constant with the TV series and doesn't go off-course with the character personalities and remains readable throughout the entire book. Buying it was pretty much worth it. It's entertaining.
- Chef Of Iron is the eighth graphic novel of the No Need For Tenchi series based around the first Techi anime series. It contains seven chapters telling five stories. In chapter one, Tenchi starts behaving oddly, so Washu starts spying on him. In chapters two and three, a laboratory mishap leaves Ryoko without her powers. In chapters four and five, Sasami competes in Iron Chef style show. In chapter six, we get a few thoughts about the world of Tenchi through yosho's eyes. And in chapter seven, Yume returns for a trip to the hot springs. This is a must read for any Tenchi fan and actually deserves five stars, but I took one away because the cover shows characters who don't appear in this book
- Oddly enough, I bought this as my FIRST manga in the series. I've seen every episode of every Tenchi series, and even two out of three movies, and this book is so good!! It's a book of 7 various stories. All seven stories are worthy of the name Tenchi Muyo, and all are very cute! Being a RyokoXTenchi fan, I loved 'Powerless', and also Washu-Chan being my favorite character, I also enjoyed 'Washu the Sleuth', and 'Petty Annoyances'. Yume has got to be a new favorite, and the only thing that got to me, was Neither Funaho, nor Misaki were in the book, *pouts and points to cover* But over all, this is now one of my favorite books. Also, you will see a familiar face in 'The Ferrous Chef', *smiles*
If you are a Tenchi fan, you will love this manga! It also portrays the characters perfectly! I found page 16 particularly funny, *snickers*...
- This has got to be my all-time favorite manga. This book has seven stories, some of them continuing the one before it. Each story has a good plot, and the artwork is so cute ^_^! Don't buy this just because Fuahno and Misaki are on the cover, though. They don't appear in the Manga at all. This book is one that you can read 500 times and you're not sick of it. I had a horrible cold last year (I could barely move) and I read the Sasami story at least 35 times before I could stand up again. If you think you know Tenchi Muyo, and You don't own this, you're wrong.

5 comments about Iron Chef: The Official Book.
- This is one of the few but worthwhile memento's of the now defunct TV series, Iron Chef. While some fans are disappointed that there are few recipes, the book is about the show and the people. Interviews abound from not only the Iron Chef, but the cast and crew as well. There is even a statistics chart in the back detailing the wins and losses of Iron Chef battles. If you still love Iron Chef and want something memorable, this is the book.
- Iron Chef is the most ingenious TV show ever created, well, the REAL original IC show, at any rate.
The over-the top cheesy quality, the bad-English dubbing, the dumb air-head actresses(who sometimes come up with surprising smart comments); the exotic ingredients, and of course--the challenges. The stuff that no normal person would ever cook, or dream of touching on his dinner plate.
The combination of sports arena quality and the sideshow of Prices Right, equals=valuable hours of your life spent on watching TV!
the book is very in depth, though not quite a "cook" book, the only true thing it lacks it the statistical point. Who won the battles, etc.
I am very disappointed in Food Network for not continuing to buy more Iron Chef shows and or continuing to show the reruns; and not to make them into DVDs....instead they're being despots and forcing us to watch that horrible horrible horrible mutant child that came out of that so called "chef".
Yet again, an original anime/comedy/whatever show is ruined...just like how they mangled Godzilla. the "Other Thing" show lacks the corny flavor, the second commentator (Fuki-San was awesome), the REAL chairman, a REAL Chef, REAL ingredients; Fun challengers, (ok, Ming Tsai was funny, but that's it);my respect for Ming grew after watching that only good episode...he was funny, relaxed, self-assured and he kicked Flay's butt!!
awful musical score (sure the soundtrack of the ONLY incarnation of IC was from.....movie, Backdraft), pathetic judges (they ALL annoy me, for some reason).
watching the "OTher Thing" gives me a stomach ache, a headache....and I keep rambling.
SCOUR THE EARTH for lost videos/tapes/bootlegs of the ONLY IRON CHEF. If you're a true fan, don't even bother watching "Other Thing".
"If my memory serves me correctly....this book will give me recollections of funny and good times."
+150 on the Wow meter for the show, 6+ for the book;
-100 on the Puke-O-Meter for "the Other Thing"
- I enjoyed the information in the book and all the pictures. I was hoping for more recipes.
- Iron Chef - The Official Book contains 294 pages filled with nice color photos of Kitchen Stadium, The Iron Chefs and their challengers, and all the exotic and wonderful dishes that are only dreampt up in the legendary Kitchen Stadium. Along with the photos of the dishes are a small handful of recipes.
Even though I absolutely LOVE the Iron Chef show, this book left me a bit wanting. Yes, the photos are nice...but, there just isn't enough bite to this book. Although the book does go somewhat into the behind-the-scenes stuff, I had a constant feeling while reading it that they could've gone a bit further. And for me, this little bit of extra makes all the difference between actually enjoying the book or just feeling that it is OK.
No matter, this book is the only official release for the original Iron Chef. So aside from enjoying old reruns of the original masterpiece, I will still recommend this book for all diehard Iron Chef fans as a nice piece of momento to relieve all the glorious moments of Kitchen Stadium.
- Great! Wonderful! Couldn't put it down! I read it cover to cover. One of my best purchases ever. Now if they'd just release the show on DVD!

5 comments about Iron Chef Chen's Knockout Chinese.
- 'Iron Chef', a contest between two competing professional chefs charged with making a minimum of five dishes from a featured ingredient, is one of the most popular culinary shows on television. One of those 'Iron Chefs' is Chen Kenichi, who in "Iron Chef Chen's Knockout Chinese" has compiled a beautifully illustrated, step-by-step, cornucopia of recipes showcasing more than sixty recipes that are as palate pleasing as they are appetite satisfying. These are dishes suitable for all dining occasions ranging from quick meals and light lunches, to seasonal stir-fries and Chinese desserts, from side dishes to fried rice and soups, from creative entries from left-overs to fruit dishes and more! Now anyone can turn out quality meals featuring White Fish Sashimi; Spicy Eggplant Donburi; Stir-fried Bean Sprouts with Garlic Chives; Honey-Coated Fried Bananas; Coconut-Simmered Apples; and Braised Spiny Lobster with Chili Sauce. Of special note are the instructions for making soup stock. Enhanced with as Afterword and a Reference Guide, "Iron Chef Chen's Knockout Chinese" is a highly recommended addition to personal, family, and community library Ethnic Cookbook collections.
- I've been using this book written in Japanese language for a while and I just purchased this one in English language. Great translation job.
His famous mapo doufu is a food made in heaven. It is sooo good with plain white rice. I've used many of his recipes from this book and they are all very good to excellent.
He does use seafood that may not be easily found in the western grocery store, but you can certainly sub other items, such as chicken, shrimp, etc.
- Watching Iron Chef and reading this book leads me to believe that Chen is a really down-to-earth guy. The book is full of great stuff. Well worth the price!
- This book is fun to read even if you are not a chef. It gives new ideas for Chinese cooking and is a nice keepsake for fans of the original Iron Chef Japan.
- I basically bought this book to make the "famed" Mapo Tofu that would appear regularly during Iron Chef Chen Kenichi's but was pleased with the rest of the book based on it's usefulness in everyday cooking or at least ideas. Some of the recipes are inventive and others are very simple, all with step by step instructions, pictures, and tips. All of the ingredients called for are very common, if not in normal supermarkets, available at asian markets or specialty chains, such as whole foods. There is something for everyone. One thing I did not like about the book was heavy use of starch slurry (cornstarch/water thickener) throughout the book. Although I know it is a very common ingredient in classic Chinese cooking and cook with it regularly to create texture and consistency in sauces and soups, I feel there is a side of Chinese cooking that can be very clean and refreshing without the use of cornstarch, but then again this is restaurant style cooking. That in mind, the person making these recipes can adjust on their own as they please according to tastes, etc.
As for the Mapo Tofu. Delicious! I enjoy spicy food, like really spicy food, but beware, Chen is the Prince of Sichuan Cooking.

4 comments about The Cast Iron Chef: The Main Course. With a wide range of dishes, and help on how to cook dutch oven in your home, dutch oven cooking has never been easier..
- I have a lot of Dutch oven cookbooks and what surprised me about this one is the variety of untypical recipes -curries, asian foods, italian dishes, lots of things that sound really adventurous. Glad I bought it. I recommend it highly!
- I purchased this book for my son to give to him with a cast iron Dutch Oven. There are a wide variety of recipes with simple, easy to follow instructions. Looking forward to enjoying one of these recipes from the Dutch Oven. My son was excited about the gift!
- As a long time devotee to camp cooking, I really appreciate this book. Dutch oven cooking, or one pot dinners are as staple an item on any camping trip as ghost stories around the fire. As much as camp fire dinners over the years have evolved into some of my best meals ever, I will admit that most cookbooks and recipes shared around the fire tend to be the same old soups and stews. This book does and excellent job in providing some diversity to the tried and true meat and potato dishes. The ones I have tried so far have been delicious indeed. And as far as cookbooks go, this one is very reasonably priced as well. My only reason for taking off a star is I really could have done without so much of the preliminaries at the beginning that are not exactly boring, but definitely in my opinion book filler. A short introduction and a few more recipes added instead of the history and conditioning of the dutch oven would have made it a five star book. Still however as cookbooks of this variety go, this is one of the best as well as diverse I have encountered. Recommended...
- I ordered this book based on the table of contents and on the description on Amazon. I've found every recipe I tried overly sweet and flat-tasting. I'll probably recycle this book next trip to Goodwill.
