- Highly recomend this book to anyone who enjoys Irish cooking or who simply wants a good look at Irish cultural history. Recipes are easy to follow and very varied.
- This book has lots of old black and white photographs of Ireland in the 1800s and early 1900s. Also has lots of great recipes for authentic Irish cuisine, like Cheese Savory, Cockle Soup, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Yellowman and Porter Cake. Recipes are fairly easy to cook.

- Quite simply, this is my favorite cookbook. I'm from Ireland so there is an element of bias but nevertheless you cannot beat Mrs Allen's simple advice such as how to roast meats properly and how to make the most of the subtle flavours that are inherently Irish. Furthermore, Myrtle Allen wrote beautifully. Her stories are very charming and I enjoy reading a few again each time I am cooking with this book. I can no longer pass a field of buttercups without a smile and a nod to this great woman.

- This is an excellent Irish Cookbook. I came to live in America four years ago, having lived in Ireland for the first 28 years of my life. I happened to find this book on sale in Borders and just bought it because I didn't have any Irish Cookbooks or recipes. When I got home I sat down and really took a good look at it. I was amazed and impressed with the accuracy. I grew up on these recipes. My Mother had made almost everything in there on a regular basis. I was so happy to find these recipes, I had thought I would never be able to recreate them. This book also has excellent photographs to accompany every recipe in it. This is very important to me. I highly recommend this book.
