5 comments about Incredibly Delicious: The Vegan Paradigm Cookbook.
- "It is an outstanding contribution to plant based nutrition literature which should be in every hand, in every restaurant chef's kitchen and public library collection as well as available in every bookstore. None better, ever. Simply the greatest and a must have, must read vegan resource of biblical stature...Every doctor should have a copy and prescribe its reading when appropriate. A beautiful book from everyone's friends the joyous vegan team at Gentle World on the island of Hawaii.
Beautiful work, friends, you are beautiful people. ALOHA!"...
- A lot of innovative reciepts but not all are fast preparations. The author relies on the blender a bit too much (even dry items are blended together instead of stired). This is a great resource for both novice and experienced cooks or anyone that wants to wow dinner guests. There is even a section on raw food reciepts and separate sections on resources so you will never be at a loss. Definately more than a cookbook!
- I was in Arcata, CA this last weekend and a friend was on a rampage cooking all sorts of things from this book. It was so unbelievably yummy! And good for you! I'm not a vegan, nor vegitarian, but I am delighted by the recipes. I'm buying it now!
- Based on all the glowing reviews, I was really excited to get this book. I am not a full time vegan, but seriously trying to find ways to cut back on dairy and meat and eat more healthily.
This book is hard core vegan, bordering on cultish. This cookbook doesn't so much relay the joys of eating vegan, but more the responsibility to eat vegan. The recipes call for a lot of brand name items, which I didn't appreciate - there are more TMs in this book than a McDonald's commercial. You are pretty much locked into buying a wide variety of specialty items if you want to make a lot of these recipes. I also would have liked it if they gave a quick description for each recipe - eg this cake is great as a summer dessert, if you love chili you'll love this 'stick to your ribs' stew etc. What good is a sauce recipe if they don't recommend what you serve it with? I wish I liked it better.
- I borrowed this book from the library and now I am buying it. I am a new vegetarian trying very hard to go vegan. I have purchased several good books but this one has so much more information.
Some reviewers criticized the use of brand names, but as a newbie, I appreciate the help. I spent two weeks wandering around a health food store trying to find "egg replacement." I couldn't find it and the clerks could not help me. They kept leading me to the real egg-white products. Finally, with the name "Ener-G" they directed me right to it.
I read this book cover to cover and found lots of great information. The Glossary of Ingredients was most helpful. Many vegan cookbooks recommend the use of Bragg's Liquid Aminos as a substitute for soy sauce. This was the only one I saw that told me Bragg's has a lighter flavor and less sodium. It also described all the various grains, their characteristics, and how to prepare them. The same with the sweeteners. I learned that Barley Malt is a thick brown syrup half as sweet as other sweeteners; that Brown Rice Syrup is a lighter color, a little sweeter, and a good substitute for honey; that Sucanat is evaporated cane juice and can be used to replace processed sugar in recipes; other acceptable substituions are date sugar, organic cane sugar, and several others.
A suggestion to replace milk or cream in recipes by blending 8 oz. of tofu with 2 cups of water is one I had not seen before. Sounds like a good idea, since basically tofu has no taste of its own. Most books recommend the use of soy milk. While I like to drink soy milk, I'm not crazy about having that taste in my cooking.
Other reviewers criticized the excessive use of Nutritional Yeast but I find that in many of the vegan cookbooks. This one however, tells me that it is a yellow powder with a "cheesy" flavor, not to be confused with Brewer's Yeast which is bitter. I have run across other recipes that told me to use Brewer's Yeast; I now know those recipes are probably incorrect.
In the back of the book are lists of cruelty-free cleaning products, companies that market only vegan products, and vegan mail order companies. Again, being new at this, I appreciate that information.

- Rick Black's Cabin Cookin': The Very Best Recipes for Beef, Pork, Poultry, Seafood, and Wild Game for Dutch Ovens, Skillets, and Grills lives up to its title with step-by-step instructions for outdoor taste sensations. From "Skillet Sloppy Joes" to "Birds Be A-Chirpin' Chili Mac", "Caribbean Cabin Kebabs", "Sunday Morning Spice Cake" and much more, Rick Black's Cabin Cookin' is ideal for campers and outdoorsmen with a taste for seafood, domestic and wild game, all types of vegetables, and anything that can be prepared in heavy foil. A brief introduction and an index round out this compendium, which largely lets its mouth-watering recipes speak for themselves.
- This is a very easy to follow cook book with some tasty recipes. A good reference for scout leaders for camp out cooking.

5 comments about Dressed to Grill: Savvy Recipes for Girls Who Play with Fire.
- I don't cook a lot of fancy, labor-intensive food. I like being imaginative and speedy in the kitchen, and I usually figure I don't need a book that is going to have me go through 40 steps just to cook a pice of chicken. But despite my wariness of cookbooks, I now own all of Karen Brooks' (and her different partners') food and cocktail books. I never thought I'd be such a fan of...cookbooks? Yup. "Dressed to Grill" is as fun to read as it is to use. When it comes to barbecue, women have traditionally taken the roles of preparing side dishes and smiling as they chew charred pieces of red meat. Well, this book makes tending the flames extremely accessible to women, from the basic how-to's and the tips on buying grills to the de-emphasis on meat (and a great low-fat chapter). The snappy writing and graphics that are the trademark of Ms. Brooks' books are present again here. Just broke up with a guy? Look in the "Bonfire of the Miseries" breakup chapter for recipes like Jerk Chicken with Grilled Bananas, Who's Sari Now?, and Chauvinist Pig (all delicious recipes). And for the absolute best version of a classic: Forget Caesar: A Bang-up Cleopatra Salad. The recipe for Campy S'Mores Sundae with toasted marshmallows is super-easy, tasty, and what the authors call "An urban girl's idea of a Girl Scout campfire dessert experience."
Whether you're cooking for one, entertaining friends, or trying to give a guy some tactful advice on how to take barbecue to a whole new level (tell him to try the Hot Girls Spice Rub - the recipe, not a spot in the red-light district) you should own this book. Yeah, being so effusive about a cookbook may seem weird, but only until you read this one.
- I found this boook at some random store and picked it up because it looked fun. I decided to use it as a theme night for my cooking club. I belong to an all girls coooking club and all of our husbands always operate the grill. This gave us some awesome confidence as we stoked the charcoal and made a three course meal. It was such a blast and we loved the campy smore sundaes as dessert. We are planning a You Grill, Girl II club this summer because we had such fun with this book. Just reading it and laughing at all the fun food titles and wording was worth the purchase. Enjoy!
- An excellent book for men also.
Flavorful recipes with common ingredients.
Quick and easy to prepare
- This is my favorite grilling booking. I have about a dozen recipes marked in this book that I want to try, but I can't get past the "Forbidden Nights Moroccon Pesto Chicken" because it is so good I don't want to try the other chicken dishes. I'm a pretty serious foodie who loves to cook but has given up beef and pork and is moving towards a nearly vegetarian eating and cooking philosophy, and I swear this recipe is the one thing that's keeping me from giving up chicken altogether! I literally get cravings for this chicken recipe, like I get cravings for good quality dark chocolate. :0)
The "Hot Lips Chili Butter" for grilled corn is great, as well. I like the fact that the recipes are unique...not your average, run-of-the-mill grilling standbys. I've made a few of the dishes for dinner guests and they're always impressed. Besides having wonderful recipes that anyone can tackle, the book is cute and clever and has my favorite cookbook feature...it's spiral bound, so it lays flat! If you love to grill, this is a great little gem for your cookbook collection.
- I agree with the reviewer who said it can be a real pain to find a particular recipe in this book because of its unusual organization. But my wife said it would be fantastic for her if I were to suddenly keel over and she had to figure out how to grill for herself. She very much enjoyed the writing style, and the recipes gave her good ideas for dinners.

5 comments about Big John's Speedway Grilling.
- Good recipes that are easy to follow, interesting stories, very informative for new tailgaters. You don't have to be a race fan to enjoy this book.
- The book was so entertaining and have tried a couple of the recipes already and they are great. Haven't seen "Big John" in over 20 years, but thought the book would be a great present for a friend, Bob Stout (not knowing that Mark had sent Bob the website and he'd already ordered his own copy). Just like having John in the room, reading the anecdotes.
- If you have NEVER tasted anything this man cooks, on or off the track
GET THIS BOOK!
He's a great friend and a great cook. I've been lucky enough to enjoy his food while on the NASCAR circuit.
Great book for your camping buddies.
- It is an answesome cookbook. The sloppy joes are A must make. There are even Deserts in there.
- All I can say is WOW...I just got back from Phoenix Raceway and had the opportunity to tailgate with Big John and the Ginn Racing Team...Big John is FABULOUS...The food was hearty and healthy too! Can you believe he made me eat all my veggies??? Well that was not hard to do because they were delicious...I am a Soldier in the Army and I have sampled some of the finest chow around the world...And I must say that Big John is the man!!!
