- Nice concept, nice photos but there is nothing new about this book. If you own South Beach, it is very similar. Contains several Greek inspired recipes.
- Dr. Lindberg starts with the health benefits and principles of the Greek Mediterranean diet and includes: a sample daily and weekly menu, portion sizes, glycemic index, shopping list, healthy ingredients explanation, kitchen ingredients and equipment lists, and more. The pictures are beautiful. This is a concise and comprehensible book with simple, interesting recipes. The back section contains a GL (glycemic load) breakdown list, which may be a helpful tool in choosing foods for this diet, other diet, or in general. My background: BA in Foods & Nutrition, MSED in Family & Consumer Sciences Education (FCS), and teaching certification in FCS.
- The book is full of nice and easy to follow recipies. However I am dissapointed it was not mentioned that it is the american edition of "The Greek Doctor's diet cookbook" that I bought on amazon slightly over a year ago so I ended up having two copies of one book.

- I'm a Greek born and bred, and a keen foodie. Now I live in London, and I always recommend this book to my English friends. Let me tell you, not only do these recipes represent authentic Greek food, but they work, too! Vefa has a degree in chemistry and that comes across in her methodical instructions. The photos are also quite appetising! Enjoy.
- I found this book to be easy to cook with and have used it for many receipes. The food tastes just like it is from Greece. The pictures are inspirational and make your mouth water.
- I got this cookbook for Christmas, and I'm used to French cooking. This is a great cookbook, but it doesn't have a recipe for baklava. Some things are sort of farfetched for Americans to eat, but this is a very easy-to-follow cookbook with illustrations and authentic Greek recipes!
- I received this gift from my Husband's Aunt. They are both American Bred and Born. I am 100% Greek. I have always cooked Greek, but never had recipes, I cook by smell (wierd, I know). BUT this cook books is the BEST! I have heard of Vefa and saw her shows while in Greece. She is very informative in a simple sort of way. She does NOT keeping you guessing about what to do. She is precise and has extended my menu list greatly. Thank You Vefa for bringing my Yiayia into my kitchen as I do feel her presence even more with your help. You are just what I needed to start off my New year 2006. Chronnia Polla!!!
- My husband is Greek, and really loves this book! Says it's the "real thing"

- I bought this book in 1973 and have loved cooking from it ever since. People rave over dishes that I prepare from it. I see from the prices for used copies of this that there are plenty of buyers out there. I'd recommend it any way.

2 comments about Mezze Modern: Delicious Appetizers from Greece, Lebanon, and Turkey.
- After 5 trips to middle east, middle eastern food a favorite of ours (cooking & eating), & a wife thats 1/2 lebanese. We have reconized or eaten less that half the recipes in the book. Of the untried there few that look appealing.
- Anyone looking for delicious appetizers, or light meal ideas, will find Mezze Modern a welcome addition to their cookbook library. Mezze Modern includes quick recipes for mezze (traditionally served as pre-dinner snacks) from the somewhat varied cusines of Turkey, Greece and Lebanon, most of them made with fresh, vegetarian ingredients (there are a few recipes calling for lamb, fish and poultry). I highly recommend this book for single people (like me) who crave bright, healthy and satisfying dishes which can be thrown together with a few ingredients, in very little time, and without too much effort. My copy is going to be dog-eared and EVOO stained in very short order.

1 comments about The Ottoman Kitchen: Modern Recipes from Turkey, Greece, the Balkans, Lebanon, Syria and Beyond.
- I originally got this book about 5 years ago. I believe I enjoyed the book at first because of the beautiful pictures and gorgeous text. I've tried some of the recipes and they were good over the years including the Imam Bayaldi and mezze dishes. However, as I've become more familiar with Turkish cuisine, I am less enamoured with this cookbook. For Manti, they suggest using meat tortellini smothered in yogurt sauce. I've gorged myself on manti more times than I care to remember and cannot see how meat tortellini is a fair substitute. I much prefer "The Art of Turkish Cooking" by Neset Eren. It's not beautiful but it is practical and useful for this yabanci.
