3 comments about The Red and Green Chile Cookbook (Southwestern and Mexican Recipes).
- I have lots of cookbooks focused on various kinds of Mexican cooking (Tex-Mex, New-Mex, Cal-Mex, Mex-Mex) but this is one I come back to all the time for dependable, easy and tasty stand-by recipes. Especially noteworthy are the instructions for delicious pinto beans, Chicken Mole Enchiladas, and chili.
- I've owned this book for 6 years then loaned it to a friend. Now I'm ordering another. If you don't know the pleasure of chipotles (smoked jalepenos) this book will tell you all and much more. Very informative, good recipes but no lengthy dissertation. This lady knows her reds and greens and will bring a tear of joy to your eye if you need it.
- This is a great cook book. The sauces and salsas are all perfect and most of them are quite easy. I use this more than almost any other cookbook that I own.

3 comments about Greek Vegetarian Cooking (Vegetarian Cooking (Healing Arts Press)).
- Finally a recipe for stuffed grape leaves where I didn't burst the leaves and make a big mess. I also love that there are recommendations for side dishes/dips to serve with the grape leaves. Most of the recipes have a note at the end that tells you an extra tip like this or if you can freeze it etc. There are some wonderful moussaka recipes too which we really love. We were in Greece about a year ago and these recipes definitely bring back memories. There are no photos in here but it doesn't really need it. Itr has all the classic dishes that you'd think of for Greek cooking. Both Greek and translated names of the dishes are provided.
- I'll tell you what: The book is as good as the other reviewer states.
However, if you've been cooking mediterranean food in general or greek food in general for a while and are looking to expand you collection of cookbooks on the subject or your knowledge, it won't hurt to pass on this one.
It is a very basic greek food cookbook; Rice with Cheese and Butter, Tomato Salad, Stuffed Grape Leaves, Lentil Soup, nothing you haven't seen before.
But, if you are just startting to explore the beauty that is the mediterranean food, then, by all means, this is a good book to start with!.
Happy Cooking!.
- This book is humble in appearance, not one of the snazzy cookbooks with glossy photos and "new takes on old dishes." It's not printed on great paper and doesn't even have line drawings.
However, what it does have is a double-handful of simple-but-delicious recipes that even I can't get too terribly wrong, and I've been enjoying them very much in the couple of weeks since I received this book.
My interest is Greek cookery, but this cookbook is so wonderful, I plan to chase down the other Healing Arts ethnic vegetarian cookbooks!

- This is a wonderful cookbook that I use very frequently! Some of the recipes call for pounds and ounces which I could do without but everything I've ever made (veggie grape leaves, baklava, sini kufte, etc) have been amazing. I highly recommend this wonderful and very comprehensive cookbook.

2 comments about Savoring France: Recipes and Reflections on French Cooking (The Savoring Series).
- This is quite possibly the best cookbook I have ever read! Not only does it have beautiful pictures and wonderful, EASY, delicious recipes, but it has delightful information on the customs, countryside, and people of France. It's a cookbook I actually USE all the time!
- What really grabbed me at first glance was the vivid colors and attention to the details in the numerous photographs in this book.
Ms. Brennan confided to me recently in a chatroom interview at the French cuisine site that she gained about ten pounds while testing the recipes for the book. The recipes are all very traditional dishes you'd find in homes and bistros all over France and are simple enough for a confident and even a new cook to recreate. Along with the delicious, hearty French recipes are little anecdotes sprinkled throughout that shed light on useful things like using creme fraiche. A perfect gift for a francophile, cook or someone who loves good classic cuisine without hours of preparation involved. The book is so vibrant and lovely you'll want to leave it on the coffee table to make your guests salivate while they wait for dinner.

4 comments about Belgo Cookbook.
- Namely, Denis and Andre's Belgo in Covent Garden. Unfortunately, I've found nothing like it back home. Fortunately, there's Belgo the cookbook. Equal parts moules, frites and beer, I've been able to bring Belgo home. Their book explains all: where mussels come from, which to pick, which to avoid and of course how to cook and eat them (with a discarded shell).
And while the recipes are quick, simple and delicious, this is more than a cookbook. There's also a beer hunter's guide, Belgian music suggestions while cooking, Belgian jokes and plenty of silly photos of the restranteurs. Essentially a primer on the Belgian good life. Did I mention it's beautifully designed?
- This book offers a humorous look at the history of the Belgian frite (french fry) as well as offering traditional Belgian recipes. You will learn how to pick the right Belgian beer to accompany your food, as well as how to prepare your own Belgian frites! And if you are in Brussels, they even give you suggestions on where to find the best, and the most unique, Belgian foods! Overall a great book!
- Fun to read; even more fun to cook from. This cookbook will send you scurrying to find Belgium beers to add to stews and desserts.
- The Belgo Cookbook may seem dubious from its cover, which was deliberately designed to buck the cookbook trend. This book is about as comprehensive, informative and easily digestible (not withstanding also authentic) as one could hope. I lived 4 years in Belgium and this really brought me back. And yes, it is a full tour de force of Belgian attitudes, food, beers, festivals locales, events, tastes, chocolate and more... vive L'Atomium!
