  1. I love the program so it followed the book would be every bit as good. I really like the reviews they give to various products that may be used in a particular receipe and the recipes I've tried have been excellent. When there is something new I'm not sure of I refer to this cookbook.

  2. Love this cookbook and recommend it to all and everyone. This cookbook makes cooking easy. It does all the hardwork of testing out equipment for you.

  3. I do not enjoy cooking but I do love to eat good food. This book makes cooking good food easy and I don't spend hours in the kitchen. My daughter had this book, but took it with her when she moved out. I was lost without it! I love it that someone has already tested food brands and appliances and that the best isn't always the most expensive. If you only have one cookbook....this should be it!

  4. We've watched the show, but this cookbook delivers. It's a binder, which makes it easy to keep open while cooking a recipe. Additionally, it is a nice blend of outlining basic cooking concepts and sophisticated techniques/recipes. A must for every kitchen.

  5. Good basic book for showing basic cooking technique with mostly easy recipes to work with.

  1. This cookbook is really great! I checked it out at the library and have cooked several of the recipes including the boneless buffalo wings (which my family says are the best they ever had), the pineapple fried rice, and the chinese pepper steak. For my birthday, my husband made me the dark chocolate layer cake with chocolate buttercream frosting for my birthday - delicious! I would highly recommend this cookbook, and so would my hubby. He's always putting his nose in and asking if I can cook this or that. The tips for making healthier versions of restaurant favorites make healthy eating FUN!

  2. Great cookbook. Easy-to-follow directions. I have made many of these recipes over and over again. The marinara sauce is now my everyday recipe. The turkey meatballs are great (even BF who HATES diet food raves every time I make them). The chili is good, and I love the chicken strip salad. I highly recommend this cookbook. None of the recipes I have made so far taste like "diet" food.

  3. I am excited to try all the recipes in this book. I had to try the chocolate cake first after reading all the reviews and it is a winner! I have made it several times already. This last time I used wheat flour and it was still good. I made the cake, frosted it and then cut it up into wedges which I wrapped tightly in foil and placed the slices in a freezer ziplock bag. Just take one out, thaw on the counter and it is good as new.
I am treating myself to a slice for desert when I need it, which I admit is every day! I am not on the diet plan the book offers.
Even my fussy husband likes what I have made. Stuffed shells, eggplant Parmesan, sticky buns and the chili. There has not been a loser so far.
I did not give it 5 stars just because I have not tried all the recipes yet and some of the ingredients are not at every store. Overall I would highly recommend it to anyone who just wants to eat tasty food that isn't high in calories and guilt ridden ingredients.I also like the glossy pages and photos.

  4. I bought this book looking for tasty recipes to feed my family that would be healthy, but not constantly deny sweets. I just don't use it much. I guess I didn't feel like I needed recipes to make sandwiches from leftovers. I may relook at it again, but I have found some I like better.

  5. I just wanted to thank Devin for writing this book. Thank you soooooooo much. All the foods I've been missing since I started dieting, all now within reach, with wonderfully easy directions. I read it cover to cover and love all the introductions to each dish.

For those who think it's too simple, I say it's deceptively simple and perfectly balanced. The best possible combination in a book of classic, comfort-food recipes. When I cook up those omelets and devour those burgers I can't BELIEVE how low calorie they are. Even better, the servings aren't small, they're unquestionably filling! In disbelief, I double checked every ingredient against my calorie counter, but it's spot on.

Basically a miracle in my mouth.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Devin. Who knew dieting could taste this amazing! I really think I might be eating more delicious food now than before I started the diet in the first place, and the weight's just falling off. All these recipes are keepers and my husband loves them. When I get down to my goal weight, this book will still be one of the first I reach for.

  1. I love to bake and have favorite recipes for brownies, muffins, waffles, banana bread....and every one of the recipes I've tried from this cookbook is FAR better than my wheat-flour recipes.
When I stopped to think about it, it made perfect sense. With quick breads, the object is to mix everything quickly and gently, never mind the lumps, before the gluten has a chance to develop and create a tough, unpleasant texture.
When you remove the gluten, you eliminate any chance of that. Tender muffins, waffles that stay crisp on the outside & soft inside....I could go on and on. Pie crust and tart crust that don't get soggy and soft after a few hours!
It makes me wonder why bakers even USE wheat flour in some instances. Just an old habit?
Every recipe I've tried has been outstanding. These are not health-food recipes, by any stretch. But if you are looking to recreate comfort foods and treats, this cookbook is an amazing resource.
Simple format; the beginning lists two simple flour blends, one for quick breads and one for yeast bread. Those are used throughout the cookbook, which simplifies the recipe. Rather than reach for the three or four flours over and over, a recipe will call for 1.5 c. of the mix, based mostly on brown rice flour.

  2. This cookbook is a really good one to have as a resource for gluten free baking. I appreciated the explanation of the three mixes which helps in understanding how the flours interact. There are also a great variety of recipes.

  3. I changed to a gluten free diet at age 41 so I am used to gluten dough cooking. Gluten free dough can be difficult. It's wetter and stickier. I've made bread/sweets recipes from this book and others. I made the doughnuts. Very frustrating. So frustrating that if I really want doughnuts I'm just going to buy them frozen at the grocery store. I made the chocolate chip cookies. It makes a very wet dough and hard to get on the pan. They spread out like pancakes on the pan and crumbled apart when I tried to get them off the pan. (but they did taste good!)I called my sister-in-law who is a chef. This recipe only has baking soda and no baking powder. She suggested decreasing the soda (1 tsp) and adding baking powder (1/2 tsp). I have not tried this yet and not too excited about trying again. Boxed cookies from the store are fine with me. I might be doing something wrong, but have not had a good experience so far being a newbie gluten free cook. I also made the chocolate fudge cake. It tasted great, but next time I have to adjust. The recipe made more than for 2 9" pans and took much longer to cook than the recipe stated.

  4. This book is wonderful. I really don't mind either way, but for those who don't want to buy and store a lot of different GF flours, give this book a try. You don't even have to make the flour blend it calls for yourself - you can buy it on Authentic Foods' website. I haven't been disappointed in anything I've made thus far. I might add a little more flavoring for a couple recipes the next time I make them, but the food itself was very good. Everything I have tried has had good texture, too. The lemon layer cake was excellent, and I don't even like lemon that much. My co-workers gobbled up whatever my husband and I didn't eat, and didn't whine one bit about it being "gross" because it was GF. :)

  5. This recipes book has some GREAT recipes! The gluten free CARROT CAKE is bar none the best cake I've ever had. All of my gluten eating friends requst this cake and like it better than the regular carrot cake. I have tried several recipes from this book and LOVE them all....Finally, I feel like I'm eating normal food! :)

  1. Ina Garten is the quintessential hostess and cook. These recipes are simple, accompanied with great photos, and delicious. Ina cooks the way we like to eat but often lack the inspiration to know what to make. She and this book are "go-to" guides for everyday as well as for entertaining.

  2. I bought this cookbook based on the recommendation of Jennifer Garner in an Oprah magazine. Jennifer likes Ina Garten's recipes because they produce great tasting food without a lot of work but also aren't simplified to the point of being ridiculous. The example she used of oversimplification was recipes that call for something like Cheez Whiz.

This cookbook includes some really wonderful recipes, but it is also a celebration of great food. I urge you to read more than just the recipes. Ina covers the importance of high quality fresh ingredients. The photos throughout the book are beautiful and instructions easy to follow. Although I know my way around the kitchen, I appreciate the photos showing how Ina defines mince, chop, and dice. Ina even shares how to make your own vanilla extract.

In the past week I've made roasted carrots, homemade applesauce, roasted baby pumpkins, fingerling potatoes, homemade granola, and cranberry harvest muffins. Everything has been wonderful. The cranberry harvest muffin recipe itself is worth the price of the book.

Over the last few years, I lost my interest in cooking. This book has inspired me to get back into it again.

  3. Beautiful book. Great photos. Easy to read. Great tasting recipes that are relatively easy to prepare.

Anyone can download tons of recipes from the internet for free. When you purchase a cookbook you expect to get something special. This book is special.

    I highly recommend this book.

  4. Ina Garten is truly my favorite. I have all her cookbooks and they have never let me down. This book has wonderful recipes for entertaining and family dinners. The pictures are amazing and I really appreciate the detailed/simple instructions. Her recipes are perfect for any palate, they're not super gourmet or betty crocker. She focuses on simplicity, freshness and quality..uses fresh produce, organic meats, good olive oil, fingerling potatoes, lobster, but nothing too extravagant. I always like to use her recipes to impress new guests or holiday parties. My favorites and must try are....pan fried onion dip, sun-dried tomato dip, cheddar corn chowder, baked virginia ham, indonesian ginger chicken, perfect roast chicken, roasted carrots, potato-fennel gratin, parmesan smashed potatoes, outrageous brownies, and pecan squares.

  5. Easy to follow recipe's and beautiful photography. Nice book quality, should last a long time!

  1. This cookbook is nice to look through, but most of the items in it are not items I can purchase very easily. Not located too close to a health food store. I did make the turkey burgers and they were EXCELLENT! So if I could buy more of the ingredients easily, I would probably like it. I do like that fact that on top of each recipe it says what blood types can have it, since my children have a different type then my husband and I.

  2. I am not overweight but have noticed a change in my improved energy levels, I find it easier to maintain a healthy weight and my overall mood has also improved when I stick with my blood type diet. I was worried about missing the foods I love (I'm type A but I loved lamb, bread & cheeses) but I still have these in much smaller amounts while focusing on the "feel good" foods. I now know what foods IMMEDIATELY make me feel tired and drained. The only problem I noticed is one error with a recipe measurement (omitted) and a soy product was listed as "beneficial" for blood type "B". Other than those errors--which you can double-check against the main index--this book has easy-to-follow recipes and an easy-to-follow blood type food guide.

  3. I bought this book and another edition from this authors called eat right for your type. The latter is much better, because it describes what is highly beneficial for your blood type and what you should avoid. After knowing this you can easily integrate this knowledge in your every day cooking. I really expected more from the cook right for your type book! First of all the layout is not very appealing, no colours, no pcitures. The recipes as such are very basic and boring no haute cuisine!!! I think you will soon get tired when eating this every day! I think I will have to look in my favourite cook books and alter the recipes according to my blood type.
All in all I cannot really recommend this book. But for people who like basic and simple cooking this book maybe helpful.

  4. This is just the most recent book we have read by Dr. D'Adamo. His educational secrets on diet have changed our lives forever. Well worth reading, if you are open to changes in how you eat.

  5. This book is full of information that the average lay person can easily comprehend. I followed the diet for type o blood type. Since I was a healthy person, eating well, and exercising daily, I was perplexed as to why I could not budge a pound off of my body. With back problems worsening, I needed to find a healthy way to shed some pounds. With the elimination of foods that I hadn't realized were not right for me, I lost 14 pounds within 4 weeks, without feeling deprived. I am still losing, feeling great, and not missing the foods I had to eliminate. I tell anyone who inquires how eating this way works. I purchased the small pocket-size guide for quick reference when food shopping. I will be 60 years old this year, and feel like I'm thirty again!

  1. What a great story and fun book. My 5 year old niece just loves it.

  2. Cute book, with ideas for fancy recipes and fancy games for tea parties, although not enough of either. We thought the book was a little too short for a book of this type in the series (of which I hope there are more craft/recipe only Nancy books for the holidays). I wish the last few pages weren't wasted on blank recipe cards, very disappointing to pay a little more for this book and have less actual reading pages. Don't buy if you want a storybook with a plot, but the ideas and illustrations are the typical cute Nancy, so Nancy fans will still like.

  3. Once you get started with fancy nancy you just can't stop! Great way to expand your child's vocabulary! That's a fancy way to say "buy these books!" LOVE them!

  4. Great Book! My niece loves it! Sure to provide interest for many years to come, chocked full of interactive, fancy fun!

  5. I ordered this for my 3-year old and it's sort of a bummer because there's not much to it (story wise). Whereas some other FN books have a story line this doesn't. It teaches you how to throw a "fancy" tea party. There are recipes and other interesting things but it's not engaging because on some pages one would be reading the recipe for lemonade or whatever. It's still sweet and the illustrations are fancy of course, but I wish I had picked a different title. There are so many in the series of books to choose from and this one hasn't been a favorite.

  1. I love this cookbook, and refer to its recipes more frequently than any other cookbook I've owned. I agree with the other reviewers who say that the index could be improved, and concede that they may have missed a few recipes. That said, it is still extremely useful for the home cook. I find that America's Test Kitchen frequently comes up with alternative, non-obvious modifications to traditional recipes that makes them easier to prepare, and the the resulting food tastier and more consistent each time.

  2. I have tried 6 recipes so far and they are right on - absolutely delicious!!!!! And I've been cooking for 45 years.

  3. //The Complete America's Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook//is designed for people who not only appreciate recipes that have been tried and tested, but also like to know how and why they work. The book is a comprehensive collection of all of the recipes prepared on its namesake TV show for the past nine years. Each recipe is prefaced with an explanation about why it works, and describes not only what often goes wrong with similar recipes, but also details the processes used in perfecting these recipes.

Tips for eggplant parmesan, that include baking the eggplant in batches on sheet trays, result in a dish that is faster and healthier, while an incomparably flaky pie crust is achieved by using vodka (which evaporates when baking) instead of water, as the liquid in the dough.

The table of contents is organized by different show themes and features chapters on everything from salads, soups, roasts and pastas, French to Tex-Mex, brunch, side dishes, desserts, and so much more.

In addition to the vast recipe collection, the book also features an extensive shopping guide complete with photos, descriptions and brand recommendations for everything from food to cookware to small appliances.

    Reviewed by Andrea Rappaport

  4. As others have pointed out, this book could be titled The Incomplete America's Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook, as all recipes from the show are definitely not included as advertised. And the tight binding of the volume itself, though it seems to be of high quality, sometimes makes the book difficult to use when actually cooking. Regardless, after a few months of use, this cookbook has been earning an increasingly prominent place in my collection. While many of the recipes could be simplified for home use, the explanations for why the test kitchen chefs developed the recipes as they did is very helpful information. Like they say, they cook things forty or fifty different ways so we don't have to. I, for one, am happy with the results and would definitely recommend this guide for beginning and experienced cooks alike.

  5. We have enjoyed reading the many recipes that are contained in the book. What is special about it is that they are tested and proven recipes, not just something someone dreamed up on the spur of the minute. A good add to your kitchen library and it arrived quickly.

  1. Weight Watchers is known around the world for its success with helping many people accomplish weight-loss goals and keeping up healthy lifestyles. Weight Watchers also will be releasing a new cookbook for the holidays, titled //Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook Momentum Program Edition//.

The //Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook Momentum Program Edition// is easy to understand, easy to read and makes dieting seem THAT much easier!

One of the nicest things about this resource is how useful it can be, for a wide variety of occasions. Divided up neatly into recipes and nutrition data on breads, marinades, sweets, main courses (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) and much more, this is a great tool to keep around the kitchen.

Whether or not you are looking to lose weight, this book is a treasure trove of information on healthy eating, and offers a nice variety of recipes for everyday use. This is a book I would recommend, both for personal use and as a holiday gift.

  2. There is a chunk of pages missing from the center of the book, basically the entire entree section. And I'm not sure if I can do a return on a used book. But it was stated in New or Like New condition. Those are the only used books I buy.

  3. Has very yummy recipes, you feel good about making and eating because they are good for you and no guilt. Love the desserts and appetizers are delicious.

  4. Easy to find recipes. Tabs are rather flimsy--should be reinforced. Easy to look up by name or type of recipe; most ingredients readily available. The "points" are listed with each recipe as well.

  5. Always looking for newer ides from Weight watchers.Last one got wore out from flipping so often.

  1. Lot's of tasty recipes. Easy to follow. Plus there is room for creativity should you want to go down that road. Great little book!

  2. I have made several recipes from this book with my kitchenaid mixer & the ice cream attachment. Every recipe that I have made has been delicious!!!! Every one from my grandparents down to my little brother love the ice cream that I have made. I also like that it doesn't call for a lot (sometimes none) of egg yolks. Definitely a must have for anyone who has an ice cream maker!

  3. The book is written in every day funny english and easy to read. All the recipes we've made so far have been delicious and will do again! We've even started doing spin offs of our own recipes using the bases provided in this book and can't wait to make our next batch.

  4. I bought this book for only one reason -- the Cherry Garcia recipe. I have made it twice. It isn't anything like the real product, not even close (canned cherries and Hershey's chocolate??) I agree it's a cute book and would make a cute companion gift with an ice cream maker, and the recipes are ok, but don't get it because you want to be able to make Ben & Jerry's at home.

  5. Excellent book. Simple recipes which are easy to follow. Many of their most popular recipes are included. Buy and enjoy.

  1. Creative, unfussy , freshly informative and comprehensive.
Debra Madison is a natural food chef Goddess! She trained at legendary Chez Panisse with the iconic Alice Waters.
Can you tell I'm in awe??? She lived at the San Francisco Zen Center and was a primary starting force at their Greens Restaurant there. The restaurant is a gastronomical treat and the whole concept should definitely be experienced when in San Franisco.
This cookbook should be a standard textbook for veg cooking. The info and organization is fantastic. It's actually alphabetical , why do I love that? Again, buy it in hardback, it's a real keeper. On my wish list will be her newer books as well . Bon Appetit!

  2. This cookbook covers the spectrum of recipes from salad dressings to desserts, breads, pizza, soups and stews, and every vegetable that most people can find in the grocery store. This is my favorite cookbook. Although I gave up the vegetarian lifestyle several years ago, I use this cookbook every week. I love to cook and Deborah makes recipes easy to follow and pretty fast to make, although prepping vegetables takes up most of the cook time.I am a cookbook junkie and own an embarrassing amount of cookbooks, but if I was limited to only one cookbook, it would be Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone.

  3. I have owned this book for many years now. My nephew has decided to become a vegetarian while in college so, I purchased this for him on his birthday. He too loves this book. I can honestly say that I have never made a bad recipe from this book. The information and directions are very clear and precise. This is a must have in everyone's kitchen. It's not just for vegetarians, it's for people who love honest to goodness food.

  4. I was surprised by how comprehensive this book is. It starts with basic information, such as how to cut vegetables. Of course, most of the book, however, is recipes. Again, I was surprised by how many diverse recipes were contained in the book. It includes sections on appetizers, salads, sandwiches, vegetables, pastas, breads, breakfast, and desserts (this is not necessarily a comprehensive list). I've only tried a few recipes so far, but all have been really good.

I think the title really says a lot. This book is for everyone. I'm not a vegetarian, but I want to have a lot of vegetables in my diet, so it's great for me. Obviously, it would also be great for vegetarians. Not all of the recipes are vegan, but I'm sure you could find a large number that are vegan in it. It's also great for people with diverse cooking experience. If you're inexperienced at cooking, the first chapter or two would probably be really useful to you. If you're experienced at cooking, you could just start cooking the many recipes in the book.

I would recommend this book to you without reservation.

  5. I call this cookbook "The Bible."
I've cooked maybe a hundred of the recipes in Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, for groups of ten to about 150 people.
    It never goes wrong.
    I love this book.
    Enough said.
