5 comments about The New Best Recipe: All-New Edition with 1,000 Recipes.
- I'm not a chef so I don't want to experiment on my own. I want to cook something the right way the first time. This book allows me to do this as the authors have taken the time to try the various methods and only give you the one that works the best.
I am also a geek at heart and I love the fact that they often explain the science and reasoning behind their recommendations. Very good book and I highly recommend. If you are a chef or someone looking for highly unique or very ethnically diverse dishes, this is probably not for you.
- The recipes are thorough to the point of an extreme and if followed exactly you will have perfect results every time. Even when not followed to the tee they come out great! I have purchased a lot of new equipment for these recipes and the buying tips offered in the book were invaluable! so you may be asking why only 3 stars after all the praise? The problem with the book is it's sheer size. It is a monstrosity! 5 pounds does not sound like a lot of weight but combined with the thickness of the book it makes very hard to read. I have accidentally ripped a lot of the pages just by holding them while the book has slipped between my legs. A better format would have been to break this into smaller pieces each focusing on a certain category like baking, main dishes, equipment corner, ect and offered as a boxed set. There is a set of books called the best recipe series by the same authors and we have purchased the "Baking Illustrated: A Best Recipe Classic (The Best Recipe Series)" volume that covers all of the baking recipes in this book and love it because it fits on the counter! This book does consume a lot of counter space so we have taken pictures right from the monstrosity and they print good enough to use then we just trash them keeping the book nice and clean. All said and done it is a great read! 5 stars for content 1 star for format= 3 stars. definitely worth buying!!
- This is a thinking man's "Joy of Cooking". They give you all the caveats to avoid when you are making any dish. I am not one to follow recipes to the letter. I like how they give you the objectives of what you are trying to accomplish. Then you can work within your range of knowledge. It is a great book for an advanced cook.
- Amazing resource! This is not just a collection of recipes strung together there are wonderful discussions of how they arrived at the recipes they present that I enjoy even more than the recipes themselves. There is considerable discussion not only of what worked but other ideas they tried that did not work. I find these are exactly the discussions I find most interesting and rewarding. Even though some of their approaches might have failed in one context, they might work in another one.
- The New Best Recipe is a compendium of more than 1,000 recipes from America's Test Kitchen. The philosophy is to preserve as much flavour as possible using the best cost-effective and time-saving way of cooking, with scientifically proven replicable methodologies. The range of cooking is vast: from Chinese stir-fries to Parker's roll, from chowder to Burgundy stews, the most commonly eaten dishes in modern Western homes are all inside.
There are a few quibbles with this book though. There is no metric equivalent for measurements. In New Zealand we never see such thing as "half and half" - it is either full cream milk or fresh cream, and the authors don't explain possible replacements when you can't find it. Many of the buyer's tips are useless in this country because of different brands (for example, Hellmann's is unheard of here, but only Watties or ETA) and different electrical applicances (fully automated ice-cream makers aren't available for domestic markets in NZ). We also don't have meatloaf mixes sold in supermarkets. The tastes are also a little different: while New Zealand has a preference of sweeter seasoning than Australia, it is nowhere as sweet as the average American palates in dishes such as using sweet white wine in making the bolognese sauce, so many of the food require less sugar. The idea of saving time using substitutes also runs contrary to Kiwi philosophy of "good things take time" - if you make it, use the full recipes. All of these make the book largely limited in appeal to New Zealand audiences.
All in all, it is a good introduction to home dishes, perhaps for American audiences, but I would strongly advise against New Zealand readers to consult this as the primary cookbook. Use The Australian Woman's Weekly series cookbooks or read Julie Le Clerc instead.

5 comments about How To Cook Everything: Simple Recipes for Great Food.
- Need I say more? Helped me totally revamp my cooking style. The methods he uses are so simple they seem like they would be self-evident, but no one ever taught me to cook simply and cleanly like Bittman does. I have only had it for a couple of months, and already I have it tape-flagged from back to front and the cover is wearing off. I will never have a kitchen without this book. Next I'll buy the vegetarian one.
- I really wanted to like this book, and I guess I do find it useful from an idea standpoint, but the truth is the food doesn't taste good. We've prepared between 10 to 15 recipes from this book and all of them disappointed. Contrast this with the less exciting but always tasty Joy of Cooking, and Joy wins every time. I wanted a sort of workhorse cookbook for everyday and I quickly realized this was not it. It went from lying open on the kitchen counter, to the bottom book on the kitchen cookbook stack (when I would thumb through it to get an idea for a dish) to being returned to the bookshelf and I'm afraid that's where it's going to stay. We had such high hopes, but thankfully, there's always our Joy of Cooking...
- Think of a food you want to make, but don't know where to start, like say, hummus. Look in the appendix -- there it is! Then try the recipe. Yay! Don't know what to do with those parsnip things? Look up parsnips in the appendix -- there it is! You get the idea. The sections in the appendix that list meal suggestions broken down by type and time are really useful. Throw those awful "30 minute nightmare" books away.
Other reviewers have correctly pointed out that the recipes are not always mind-blowing, in fact, they are not necessarily even "best-of-breed".
But Bittman delivers what his title promises: "Simple Recipes for Great Food"
The instructions are easy to follow, the ingredients are easy to get and the food tastes like, well, what it's supposed to. If you didn't like parsnips before you tried his recipe, you probably still won't like them. But if you like Yorkshire Pudding, you will enjoy his simple recipe.
If you are already a pretty good cook, you will adapt his recipes to your tastes -- and most are easily adapted. In fact, with several recipes, he gives simple variations on the recipe to give your creativity a jumpstart. My personal copy looks horrible. The binding has split in a few places, there are notes of changes I've made scribbled in the margins and there are splatter stains on several pages.
Please note that this book is NOT for everyone. There isn't much going on in the visual aid department here, though I've read that the CD-ROM has some helpful stuff on it. (I bought mine before there was a CD-ROM version.) And if you actually like those "30 minute nightmare" recipes, you might not like these. Finally, if you are heavy seasoning inclined (like me, having grown up in Cajun Country), you will probably want to taste and then add "mo' love" to some of the dishes.
- This is my "go-to cookbook" for EVERYTHING! I actually purchased this copy for a friend for her bridal shower...we were supposed to submit our 2 favorite recipes but instead I gave her my favorite cookbook! You are not going to find anything overly fancy here...this just has your basic recipes for as the title says cooking everything! I highly reccommend this book!
- I just started to cook, and am often daunted by the enormity of the task. I love to master that meals I make, crushing out a mean grilled cheese, but sauteeing flounder, or making artichoke seemed out of my league. I found that this book provides a good base of knowledge written in a simple and straightforward manner, allowing me to meander down new avenues of culinary delight. Terms and sub-ingredients are succinctly explained for answering all those questions that invariably arise, and most recipes come with delicious alternatives to help add variety to the palette as a new notch is carved into my culinary board of knowledge. I think it probably holds it own as a cookbook, since everything I have made is pretty delicious, but its strength really lies in the wider tutelage on cooking lying within.

5 comments about Eating For Life.
- Really great recipes and full dinner ideas. Easy to follow, easy to do, taste great. All healthy. Great pictures even! Just enough varieties of recipes to find several that you love and go back and back to.
- This book is GREAT!! The meals are simple to cook, generally cheap, and above all healthy! There are plenty of breakfast meals, lunches, dinners, and even snacks to keep you eating a wide variety of meals for a long time. Additionally, in typical Bill Phillips fashion, the book starts off with educational text which is designed to teach you about food, nutrition, and diet. Through out the book you will also find inspirational words to keep you motivated and to support your positive lifestyle choices.
Sometimes it's difficult to find a health food cookbook where the meals actually taste good, but that is certainly not the case with Eating for Life. I can't say enough about how delicious each meal is. BIll Phillips and his team out did themselves when they came up with these meals.
The only problem I find with this book is that once the meal is cooked, I want to eat all of it. :)
- Part 1 of the book (74 pages) describes how modern society has trained us to eat incorrectly and how a few simple changes can turn weight gain into weight loss. There are chapters on Myth vs. Fact (that covers common misconceptions), and specifics on the four-part formula for eating right (the right foods, right amounts, the right combos, the right times). The chapter where the author describes his own experiences is the weakest (in spots it contradicts the earlier chapters and it has an overly-conversational style), but it does contain a few additional insights.
I am finding the eating guidelines very effective because they are sustainable--I don't really feel like I am dieting and believe I am adopting new ways of eating that I can use indefinitely. It's much easier to follow than other diet plans that require counting or buying specific foods. I get the sense that as long as I follow the principles, rather than having to be exact, I'll end up with great results without all the stress. I've lost eleven pounds since reading book and following its guidance (3 weeks).
Part 2 contains 248 pages of full color recipes that follow the guidelines of Part 1. It breaks down the recipes by meals with dinners followed by desserts, breakfasts, lunches, midmeals, and nutrition shakes. What really makes this stand out for me is that there are very few recipes I'm not interested in trying. These are practical, mostly easy to make (there are a few exceptions), and very tasty. It has plenty of creative ideas and successfully finds ways to make each dish interesting. The recipes have a few other unique features: each section has a variety of meals that serve differing numbers of people, so it's easy to find a ready-made idea for yourself for lunch or for a family of four for dinner (of course, they can all be adjusted to meet the necessary number of servings). In my experiences so far, the photos with each recipe are faithful to the actual result. Many of the recipes also include a photo of the actual ingredients required, which is an easy way to know at a glance whether everything needed is already on hand. Several of the desserts and most of the nutrition shakes call for Myoplex Lite, the nutrition powder sold by the author's company, but presumably any comparable supplement could be used.
The end of Part 2 includes sample meal plan charts, blank plan charts, and grocery lists. These items can be downloaded from the web site and printed by owners of the book.
The appendix contains stories and photos of people who have had amazing success with the Body for Life program (which this book could be considered an extension of). It's interesting to look over those case studies but some of them are actually a bit frightening. I think most of us are looking for more moderate success. There are also typical sections including a glossary, descriptions and photos of kitchen utensils, and conversion charts.
I have been very pleased with the book and look forward to making many more of the included recipes.
- I how this book full of GREAT info and recipes. We have already used more than a dozen recipes and there were really good. We have also put some of the info in to practice, and we find we have it easy to do.
- I am addicted to this book. I started reading the first few pages and said, "That is me". All of the horrible eating habits I had, I have changed because of this book. I have SOOO much more energy I am amazed. I didn't know that after having a child, I could have so much energy. I have dropped about 10 lbs. in 4 weeks through both the Eating for Life and Body for Life Women's. I feel great. If you are dragging every day, and can't find the energy to exercise, BUY THIS BOOK. It truly will change your life.

5 comments about Top 100 Baby Purees: 100 Quick and Easy Meals for a Healthy and Happy Baby.
- I got this book but DO NOT believe the ages! Babies ARE NOT supposed to have eggs before 1 year and she says 6-7 months. There are awesome recipes I will use though just not when she says. Also it says you MUST introduce solids at 6 months and really you don't have to in the first year if you're breastfeeding some babies aren't interested! The signs for being ready are contrary to what any nutritionist will tell you decreasing time at the breast or more frequent feedings could mean a growth spurt otr a nursing strike or something else! The true signs are that they are 6 months or older, can sit with a little support, keep their bottom lip out when a spoon is put in, and doesn't push food or spoon out with tongue. These aren't even mentioned!
- This book is a must have for all moms! I went to work right a way once I got the book. My daughter (4 months) really enjoyed watching me make her baby food. Annabel Karmel is brilliant! I have other books of hers and love them. She has great ideas for all ages and makes it fun to provide the best for your child. There is no need to go out and buy all kinds of equipment. She makes it very simple.
- This is a good reference for where to start. I was looking for the basics of what to start when, how to prepare each item (steam, boil, no cook, etc.) and a little detail about what combinations work. This is exactly what I got.
I agree with other reviewers that a few of her recommendations are against pediatrician recommendations but I suspect that anyone who actually takes the time to make their own baby food, is likely to do more reading and research than this book alone in addition to talking with their pediatrician.
- Okay, it's important to bear in mind that Annabel Karmel is British - she lives and works in Britain, where child feeding guidelines are obviously different. This information is clearly stated in the book. I don't think she has disdain for AAP (American Academy of Pediatric) guidelines ... not everything revolves around America, folks! So keep that in mind as you consider which recipes to make for your baby.
That said, much of the nutritional information in the book is solid, and the recipes are indeed easy, healthy and delicious. I've used it again and again, and I love it - and so does my baby.
- We were pureeing fruit for my daughter before we purchased this book. But the advantage to this book is having other options for bigger meals and what types of food to combine into one meal.
We have tried several of the recipes and all have been very simple to make. The one-pot chicken has onions, sweet potatoes, carrots and chicken mixed together. My daughter had not tried chicken or onions before this meal but seems to enjoy it.
I have a few small complaints about the book:
1) It doesn't list temperatures for cooking
2) I would have liked to see more recipes that included herbs and spices
3) Many recipes include strawberries, which are not recommended for children until age 1
Overall, I am very pleased with this book. It has encouraged us to make new foods for my daughter who seems to enjoy whatever we place in front of her.
I would (and have) recommend this book to any parent of infant children.

5 comments about Screen Doors and Sweet Tea: Recipes and Tales from a Southern Cook.
- I actually bought this book to support Martha and the local bookstore in my hometown of Greenwood, Ms. Thinking it was just another cookbook to add to my collection...Wow, What great stories and the recipes are awesome..I had been looking for a good egg and olive sandwich and pimiento and cheese,
No more, found it in this delicious cookbook..Can't wait to try other recipes. This book has inspired me to get back to cooking...I suggest that anyone that wants a cookbook, you can actually use and enjoy....Don't miss this one!!!!....5 thumbs up..
Thank you Martha.
Cindy Sturdivant
- Wow- I collect & use many cookbooks, but this one in particual almost reads like a best selling novel. Along with some of the best southern inspired recipes as a main course, the reader gets treated to a side dish of recipe history and a dessert of wonderfully helpful notes! Some of my personal favorites include the Chicken Thighs & Dumplings--little pillow dumplings adrift in the richest of stews, honest devil-ed eggs, watermelon salsa (just incredible!) and the best ever, natural Red Velvet cake. Wash it all down with a McCarty Pottery Julep or a Mailbox cocktail! Well Martha, very, very well done!
- I am not one to write reviews on books, but after purchasing, reading, and cooking some of the recipes in this book, I had to put in my two cents worth. This is one of the best- if not the best cookbook on Southern cooking I have read in a long time. I am an avid cookbook collector, and the owner of a cafe in Arkansas. Not only are the recipes fantastic, but the stories and pictures make it all the more enjoyable. If you cook one thing out of this book, you must try the Lemon Icebox Pie. This is one of the best pie recipes I have made. I can't wait to try the banana pudding in the mason jars. If I could, I would give this cookbook 10 stars!
- Because I love southern cookbooks and vintage aprons, I had to get this book. What a sweet cover!! The recipes inside just want to make you cook and sit down with a glass of sweet iced tea..they are good recipes and this is one book that will be a great addition in the kitchen! It doesn't get any better than this! This one I got a heads-up from my good friend Margie in Tennessee...not only is the cover picture of a woman dressed in an apron serving a huge tomato filled with peas and corn salad an eye-catcher but the book is filled with tales and awfully tempting southern recipes. There's a picture of mason jars filled with banana pudding and meringue and the recipe is to die for! Also, try out the Curried Sweet Potato Soup with Pork Rind Croutons, a little bit of heaven here on earth! This one is a keeper!
- I want to say up front that I don't like cooking. It ranks right up there with ironing clothes as a task to put off at all costs. HOWEVER, there is something about this book that makes me want to get in the kitchen and get re-aquainted with my measuring spoons and spice rack.
If the beautiful photographs don't get you goin' then the great stories that accompany each recipe surely will. I was so inspired by "Aunt Marynaise" that I went out and bought a food processor just so I could make homemade mayo. (My mom-in-law would be soooooo proud!)
You won't be sorry you purchased this book!
Martha, my spice rack and measuring spoons thank you, and so do I!

5 comments about Raw Food Made Easy For 1 or 2 People.
- This is an easy to read book for first timers in the raw food program. The recipes are easy and perfect for 1-2 people.
- What is beautiful about this book is that it provides a perfect beginning for those of us who are making the hugh shift to raw food. I'm now 100% raw and have purchased many raw food books and the only one that feels right so far is "Raw food Made Easy". I enjoy learning the basics and building upon them, so learning how to chop parsley doesn't insult my intellect.
Many of the recipes in the other books are overwhelming and after all the sweat and tears, taste like crap. Jennifer's recipes are simple and taste heavenly. I find it easy to adjust to my own tastes and don't feel bad if it doesn't work out.
Some of my favorites: whole oatmeal w/almond milk (YUM!), not tuna, chocolate mousse, marinara and zucchini noodles. All so good and fresh.
Try out Jennifer's dvd, too. She truly is a teacher and the visuals will help with prepping and motivate you to get started.
- I am not a vegetarian but was looking to move toward a more healthy eating style. Jennifer Cornbleet's Raw Food Made Easy is true to it's title. She organizes the book well including an equipment list on each recipe page, provides a weekly shopping list which makes grocery shopping a breeze. I've tried several of the recipes and liked them all. This is a well organized book with plenty of resources for the beginning Raw Food enquirer.
- This is such an informative book that makes raw eating easy and attainable. It's great for beginners! I love it! Got it yesterday and I'm making recipes tonight! Check it out!
- I've been preparing raw food for a couple months now. Juliano's RAW uncookbook was my first book (I wouldn't recommend it for starting out, I didn't get really into raw food until the two books I bought after). I got this book and ani's raw food kitchen at the same time. They're both great books with delicious recipes. I use them a lot, and like them for different reasons. This book is more simple, which I enjoy as the recipes are quicker. I feel that this book helped me the most to understand the basics of preparing raw food. The ingredients are all easily available (unlike juliano's and sometimes ani's). Yes some of the recipes are a bit obvious like making your own lemon juice, but I'm not hung up on that because there is much more to the book than a few over-simplified recipes. If you get this, I highly recommend the almond cookies and carob mousse made with avocado (I love making these for people who aren't familiar with raw preparation, they are always shocked and gobble them down!) But really, most of the recipes are awesome --except for the energizing purifying juice, not so much.

5 comments about Martha Stewart's Cookies: The Very Best Treats to Bake and to Share (Martha Stewart Living Magazine).
- I originally ordered this on March 20 from globalbooks2000 through your web site, paid for on my Amazon credit card and never received.
Although I love this book and it came promptly the second time, it had to be ordered twice. I have sent emails to you and globalbooks2000 but never been acknowledged.
I am now going to report this to Visa.
- Fun to make, unusual and unique cookies for everyone..not to mention..
Die and Go to Heaven GOOD!!!
- This is a wonderful cookie book. The recipes are clear and diverse, with so many choices and yet nothing so bizarre as to make you think it shouldn't have been included. There are also some unique & new cookies (well they are to me, at least), like the stained glass christmas trees, and the little umbrella-shaped lemon cookies. Cute, and clever ideas.
The format is lovely, with lots of beautiful photographs for all the cookies.
Hats off to Martha, she is a perfectionist and it shows in her work. There is no great baking expertise required, but some of the recipes are more complicated and/or challenging than others. (I offer that opinion as someone who is not really a great baker or one who particularly enjoys baking.) I would think that anyone who likes cookies would appreciate this book!
- Book is a great "read" - interesting - recipe for crispy choc. chip and soft choc.chip cookies. Made the cover recipe - and loved the taste.
I like how Martha - makes it appear that one can make the cookies by hand...yeah right.
Anyway - great book and a fun one too.
- Aside from very good recipes, I particularly like a section in the front where you'll find a photo of each cookie. They are listed by type, i.e. cripy, chewy, etc. It makes it very easy to select a recipe by texture or ingredients. My only regret is that the book is not hardcover, my personal preference for all cookbooks.

5 comments about The Most Decadent Diet Ever!: The cookbook that reveals the secrets to cooking your favorites in a healthier way.
- The Most Decadent Diet Ever: The Cookbook that Reveals the Secrets to Cooking your Favorites in a Healthier Way, presents a sensible diet plan and easy to prepare recipes.
The diet plan includes proteins, vegetables and carbohydrates, so all food groups are included. The recipes are heavy on meat from my point of view, but will appeal to many, as they are based on American favorites.
The book includes a sample 7 day meal plan. It also has tips and words of encouragement to help the reader. Deven Alexander shares what she stocks in her pantry and helpful tools to have in the kitchen.
There are lots of breakfast recipes, which is nice for those seeking variety for this meal.
I tried the open-ended buffalo chicken wrap and it was quite delicious. I also tried the spicy Szechuan steak salad and really enjoyed it.
Entrees included honey-glazed spiced pork tenderloin, skinny scampi and chicken piccata.
Alexander gets it: flavor can trump fat for making food taste good. To that end, she uses lots of flavorful--but not fattening--spices, oils and such.
What I don't like is the use of "fat free half and half", which consists of nonfat milk, milk, corn syrup solids (sugar), artificial color, and sugar. There are healthier substitutes.
Overall, if you like "All-American" type food, you will enjoy this cookbook of lower calorie--but still tasty--recipes. You will not feel deprived!
Ny the author of the award winning book, Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet.
- I was disappointed in it. I thought it would have a diet plan instead of just recipes. I returned the book for a refund.
- When was the last time a cookbook actually motivated you to change? Typically I receive a book, look through it for fun, interesting recipes, try a few, and add the ones I like to my repertoire. I can honestly say that Devin Alexander's 'The Most Decadent Ever!' has done something that no other cookbooks have done - it has revolutionized the way I think about food to embrace a healthy diet.
In the age of numerous fad diets, I've seen many friends try, sometimes with dramatic success, only to be met with disappointment down the road. I believe that this is because many of the diets that exist are really designed for short term gains. To me it has never seemed natural to eliminate particular food groups from a diet (except of course for medical reasons) and would make long-term maintenance a challenge. I've avoided the fads and lived in a world of moderation - which has served me pretty well. For the first time, however, this book has opened my eyes to an approach to preparing meals that makes sense. 'The Most Decadent Diet Ever!' embraces all food groups yet provides guidance on creating dishes, ranging from simple to sophisticated, that indulge the senses, are thoroughly satisfying, and incredibly healthy. After completing just one meal I felt energized, great about myself, and eager to learn and try more.
My adventure began with planning "a day of decadence". Last Sunday, I decided to immerse myself in this cookbook (and put it to the ultimate test) by preparing the entire days' meals for my 3 year-old son and myself. My little sous chef and I prepared the following meals: vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry breakfast sundae (p35; breakfast); supreme and slender French bread pizza (p111; lunch); lemon-thyme chicken kebabs, tart cherry couscous, zucchini boats with goat cheese and sun-dried tomatoes, (p131, p171, p175 respectively; dinner). The dishes were simple to prepare and came out just like the pictures. And the taste was AMAZING! My son and I loved everything. It was actually hard for me to believe that healthy meals could have panache and be completely satisfying!
Along the way, Devin's book has taught me alternative ingredients and cooking techniques to maintain a healthy diet. Simply put - this book is EXCEPTIONAL!
I highly recommend that you plan your own "day of decadence" with Devin Alexander's book. One day of decadence may just lead YOU to a life of healthy eating.
- I was astonished that a "healthy" eating cookbook could offer so many choices that taste good and are easy to make. If you are serious about eating healthy but also enjoy unique and flavorful food, this is the book for you!
- Wow! I was skeptical when ordering this book, but it is amazing. No weird food substitutions, just real food that's prepared in such a way as to keep the flavor and get rid of unneccessary calories and fat. The first recipe I tried was the "Chocolate Not Only In Your Dreams Cake". Oh... my... gosh! It was SO delicious, and for only 3 weight watchers points! I topped it with fat free vanilla ice cream and a little hershey's syrup, and didn't feel AT ALL deprived while my family had brownie sundaes. In fact, I bet mine was better than theirs! I can't say enough about that recipe. I ordered Hungry Girl cookbook at the same time, and I'll probably return that. Too many weird chemical and tofu substitutions. If you buy this book, you won't be sorry.

5 comments about The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals.
- This book's a MUST HAVE for parents of picky eaters. I love that she gives us an alternative, for those of us who may not have time to make ahead the different purees and juices.
I'll definetly use these methods with EVERYTHING I cook for now on. I wish this book came out when my kids were younger, but at least I can start getting those veggies in them now-better late than never!
The only downside for me has been the breakfast ice cream not turning out :( But, that's alright-everything else has been great so far.
- These are great recipes!! I am constantly surprised at how good everything tastes. One of my favorites is the Banana Breakfast ice cream. While I don't believe in getting my son in the habit of having ice cream for breakfast, I certainly have no problem giving it to him after a healthy dinner of baked Crunchy Chicken tenders or Covert Quesadillas. I also make sure my son is aware these are homemade & healthy not like the food we get at restaurants.
- This is not a bad book, just wished it had more colored pictures so I could get a better visual.
- I got really enthusiastic about upping the nutritional content of my meals after reading this book. I liked the simple layout and the easy recipes. THESE I can do!
My husband and I don't cater to the kids much at mealtimes. They eat what's offered or they don't eat. Period. Yet we've learned to skirt potential battles by giving them only very small portions of the things they don't like (such as the straight-up veggies). Maybe I'll get them to eat more fruits, veggies, and grains by surreptitiously adding them to the things they do like while still getting them to eat the little portions of the plain 'ol veggies they eat reluctantly.
I have to say that over all, I preferred this book to "Deceptively Delicious", though that one had a few good recipes as well (I got it from the library). Maybe I just balked at the "another-wealthy-celebrity-tells-you-how-to-do-it-right" angle.
- "The Sneaky Chef" was a good purchase. While I would prefer to feed healthy foods to my toddler straight-up, he isn't so keen on that. Rather than constantly fight him and risk driving him further away from veggies, I figure it makes more sense to sneak some great food into him while still offering and encouraging him to eat the "regular" vegetables. I'm hoping that he'll eventually come around and eat them on his own; meanwhile, at least I know he's eating a pretty healthy diet.
I liked Lapine's writing style, although I felt she spent a little too much time on preamble and not enough on recipes. As of yet I haven't tried many of her recipes, and I don't intend to feed my child chocolate anything more than once in a while, however the simple concept of sneaking pureed vegetables into various foods makes a lot of sense to me, and I've worked them into some of my own recipes with success. I found this to be a logical follow-up to "Super Baby Foods".

- Great tips for grilling things we hadn't tried before until now like...How to grill scallops and how to grill shrimp (say for kabobs). Some really interesting spice rubs and sauces that you just wouldn't think of. Some great ideas for grilling all sorts of veggies too.(I.E. squash, zucchini, and mushrooms) A great book.
- Not a bad book. There are some very helpful hints. Lots of oil is used, though, and makes me wonder why the fat/calorie contents aren't listed. This could have been easily done, but people would be disturbed at some of the calorie counts. The answer is obvious then. Good graphics.
"MESA" is by far Flay's best cook book, but there again the calorie thing raises a red flag. "HEAT" is also a good book, as well is "FINE DINING MADNESS." Also suggested is "An Omnivore's Dilema."
- My husband loves to watch Flay's boy meets grill and we have tried several recipes. This Grill Book is along those same lines. He got it for Father's Day and spent the next hour looking through the recipes of what he can make on the grill. There is a variety of dishes that have broad appeal and definitely more than 3-4 that we would make over and over again. I'm looking forward to some great cookouts this summer.
- Bobby Flay's Grill It!
This book is excellent and exciting to read! I like the way 'Grill-It' is organized - by food item. The recipes are easy with limited, but choice ingredients. This cookbook will motivate anyone to get out the grill and fire it up!!!
- Since this product was purchased as a gift, in July, I have no review.
Sorry about that. Norm
