  1. As I am a person that likes to eat desserts (especially) chocolate I would really even Love it more to explore in a book written by such a succesfull author as Isabelle Allende... It seems a delicious book to explore in, there it has so delicious and beautiful things to eat and read in...

  2. To me, this book is just a waist of time!

  5. I wanted to read this book since the first time it was published in 1997 but I think I was to young to have appreciated. Now that I finished it I just can say it was a real feast for the mind and soul, it was just the best meal I ever had. Isabel Allende writes after a terrible moment in her life which was the dead of ther daughter Paula but she does it with so much passion, such zeal for life as if celebrating it together with love and lovemaking, just couldn't help but devouring the book in 3 nights. Is not only a novel (if you can call it that way) but is also a cooking book with so many exquisite recipes that you would like to try with your partner (or on your partner) at once. If you happen to speak spanish native or have a good knowledge of this language I'd recommend you to buy the spanish version to enjoy Isabel Allende at her best.

1 comments about Satisfy Your Soul: A Guide to African American, African & Caribbean Restaurants.
  1. "Satisfy Your Soul" introduces the reader to places that are not familiar to the American public at large, mainly African-Americans. Ms. Labat goes across the state researching African-American restaurant establishments, some being in business for over 50 years and others for less than that time. This guide doesn't have any fast food chains like McDonald's and Burger King, which seems to have taken over the black community causing escalating health problems. "Satisfy Your Soul" is a guide to finding eateries in the black community in the United States.

1 comments about The American Colonization Society and the Creation of the Liberian State: A Historical Perspective, 1822-1900.
  1. In this work, the author examines the history of Liberia in the nineteenth century. In doing so, the author argues that the political, economic, and religious institutions of Liberia in the nineteenth century were largely extensions of those in America even though the colony and later state of Liberia was established by free or emancipated blacks and slaves recaptured on the high seas by the United States Navy. This is an excellent work in an area where little research has been done. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to get an understanding of the United States relation to the African nation of Liberia and why Liberia is different from other Afircan nations.

1 comments about Daddy's Good Cookin'.
  1. In DADDY'S GOOD COOKIN', Vincent Johnson shares the excitement one family experienced when their father made his famous 1-2-3-4 cake. The father in the book has a special love for preparing delicious dishes for his family to enjoy. However, one of the things his family enjoyed most was his 1-2-3-4 cake. Despite his culinary talent, he is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to cooking and this is especially true when he bakes this cake. Everything has to be just so, and even the frosting, which is made from scratch, is a time consuming ordeal. In the meantime, the anticipation for the wonderful dessert continues to grow, especially with all the scents wafting throughout the kitchen. When the cake is finally done and the family is able to eat it, they realize it was more than worth the wait.

DADDY'S GOOD COOKIN' is in many ways a tribute to the author's father, who, in his words, "knew his way around the kitchen." I enjoyed the fact that the author included this well known recipe in the back of the book, so parents could actually prepare the cake if they chose. I also found it refreshing to highlight the idea that fathers can cook too. The only downside was the muted illustrations, while beautiful, didn't seem to complement the story well. Vincent Johnson shared in the author's note how his own father would often don his mother's apron while cooking, but the pink apron and the overall depiction of the father's image will likely confuse a lot of young readers who will assume the main character is female. Despite this, DADDY'S GOOD COOKIN' is a heartwarming story that depicts love, and the importance of family traditions.
