- I have had this laptop for a few months now. It is very pretty right out of the box, but the glossy finish on EVERYTHING - including the keyboard is a problem. The keys are slick and every fingerprint shows on the laptop case and keyboard and there is a lot of glare on the screen because it is shiny. Also, it does not shut down properly at times and will not wake up from sleep mode sometimes. At those times I have to disconnect the power and remove the battery for a few seconds before it will act right again. Then I am good for a couple of weeks before it happens again. If you put any pressure on the bottom of the laptop under the DVD drive while it is working it makes alarming noises, like you are pinching the spinning disc. Other than that, it seems fine and it's small size and light weight are big plusses.

5 comments about Dell Inspiron 1501, Turion X2 TL-60 (2.0GHz) 1GB DDR2, 9-cell Battery, Vista Home Premium, IGP 256MB Radeon X1150, 60GB SATA, 15.4 WXGA.
- When I purchased this computer through Dell, XP was not offered as an operating system - Vista or nothing. Vista has been incompatible with several applications including my company's virtual private network (VPN) - very annoying. Also, the built-in SD card reader never worked.
I was also disappointed at the lack of video output jack, so I can't pipe DVD video to a TV or other NTSC viewing device. Dell's power saver feature doesn't tell you whether it is hibernating, standing by, or the screen is just dark, and I have accidently shut down several times when I meant to turn it on.
I opted for the shiny screen for an extra $10, and it was a mistake. As I should have suspected, the glare makes the screen almost unreadable if your lamp is not strategically placed. My computer came with a 1-year subscription to McAfee Virus Protection, but McAfee's pester screens are simply intolerable - it's not clear that McAfee has performed a notable service and I'm dumping it. Dell has lost it's way, look elsewhere for better value.
- I purchased the dell inspiron 1501 a little over a year ago and was surprised at the reviews. This laptop is perfect for what I use it for: browsing the web and typing papers. I would have given it a 5 star but my lcd and it's hinge was falling off (a year into having this laptop) so I had to get it replaced. At the the time I bought it, I was given a choice of XP and Vista so I opted for XP since I heard many many bad things about Vista. Hopefully when Vista becomes a better OS, I'll upgrade but for now, I think I'll stick with XP.
Overall, it's a good and simple laptop for people that just want something that isn't difficult to use.
- I would give this computer 0 stars if I could. From day one there was nothing but problems and issues that needed to be resolved. I put up with it for a year, and what do you know the day after my warrenty my computer hard drive crashes, making me lose everything I had on it and I had to spend almost a thousand dollars to fix it. Soon after the graphics card kept having errors and the screen would randomly shut off.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
Buy an HP or a Mac, they are so much more reliable and actually help when you have problems.
- I've had this computer for 9 months. I paid $700 for it on sale from Dell directly, free shipping and handling. Overall it works great and I've never had any OS or software issues. I use it for school and home only. I did elect to get XP instead of Vista because of all the problems I've heard about.
I have three issues with the computer. It's heavy, I'm a girl but not a small girl and by the time I've gotten to class my shoulder hurts. The fan turns on after half and hour of the computer being on, and it always runs hot. Thirdly, the battery life does not last as long as dell said it does. It runs about two and a half hours.
This is my second Dell and overall I'm quite happy with it and it works well for me. I can't say anything about customer service because I haven't had to call them.
- I bought the 1501 20 months ago. It has been running stable ever since.
I also use an IBM thinkpad running Windows XP Pro which cost twice the money. We use the Dell 1501 at home to browse the internet, use itunes, word processing, and watching movies on Netflix instant watch (the internal speakers work fine for this purpose). Compared to the thinkpad the Dell computer feels clumsy , I would not like to carry it around. For the purposes listed above, it works fine. Using Vista with only 1 GB makes the computer feel sluggish (e.g. for some applications like Adobe Photoshop 6.0), but its tolerable for the most part.

- Exellent laptop with a dedicated graphics card, twin drives and plenty of memory. I have loaded this laptop up for use with my job, and yet it is an excellent gamer for downtime during business trips.
Plenty of features, full size keyboard with a separate numeric pad.
I highly recommend it.

2 comments about Sony VAIO VGN-N250N/B 15.4" Laptop (Intel Core Duo Processor T2250, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD¿RW Drive, Vista Business).
- I had an HP zv6000 (AMD 64 CPU) for about 1 year. That laptop was great with winxp. Quite heavy and the AC adaptor was the size of a brick. Untill, I decided to install WinXP 64 bit version...YIKES....downloading compatable drivers will be a nightmare for any novice user and I could not use the speakers or memory card reader because HP has not put out 64 bit drivers (so why sell the hardware if the software is not available? is what I asked the HP tech on the phone). But enough about HP...this is about the new VAIO that I replaced it with. This laptop gets down to the point without flashy lights or childish colors or stickers (a big plus for the professionals). Setup and using Vista is taking some getting used to but quite interesting. This laptop is alot quieter than my HP (fans) and the heat is kept at a minimum (so no sweaty lap). Applications zip by with the awesome Duo capability and getting things done is so much faster than a 64 bit HP. Downloads on this VIAO takes full advantage of my broadband bandwidth (another big plus). I haven't tried a game as of yet, but I am sure I will have only a bunch of Kudos in that department as well. So if you are looking for a laptop that you want to use for the years to come, then this one will outlive the hype and be useful for a long..long time. Finally I found a keeper :)
- The delivery was excelent, I received the pacakge just in time. Congratulations I hope you keep this service
