5 comments about Sony VAIO VGN-CR510E/T 14.1-inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Brown.
  1. The Sony VAIO VGN-CR510E/P 14.1" Laptop is a very sleek, beautiful laptop. I have had no issues with it at all. I especially like the feature where you can use the media center or play a DVD without having to start up the computer. Most computers are coming with bloatware, but Vista is a hog for ram. I really like the keyboard as it looks and types like my MacBook keyboard. I do a lot of heavy typing, and this keyboard works very well for me. All features of the computer works like it is supposed to. I have found only one little annoying thing about it and that is the DVD drive door opens too easily. It does sometimes open up when I have just barely touched it when lifting the laptop. I have not had to contact Sony for any tech support, so I cannot respond to other people's reviews. Years ago, when I had an issue with my old desktop, Sony responded promptly, took care of the issue and sent it back within a week, all on their dime. A box was sent to ship it to them. The desktop has continued to work for ten years. I would definitely recommend this laptop.

  2. **-*-*Exc seller, I purchase for 5-9 Bussines Days, And I get The PC in only 3 days.*-*-*
--------Here are some Pros and Couns regarding the PC, -------
**Cons ** 1st -The pc only works w/windows Vista, I contact the Sony Support online, and the told me that for the moment the product will work only w/Vista, after some month will upgrade to XP, I hope so!!
**Pros**, The pc is very fast, The processor helps a lot, and the 3Gb memory too..the HD is enough to safe your videos, Music, files.
**Pros** The desing is exc, is for people who like high tech.
    **Battery** like 3hrs.

Comment for the seller, The specification sd the machine comes w/ a processor Core 2 duo, but I recibe my pc w/ a sticker that sd Centrino, I find out the internal processor was the one mention on the box (the 2.0Ghz Core 2 duo). But at 1st time I just get scared about it.

    In General, I love Vaio....

  3. This is the laptop my dad bought(and I use) and we all love it, the design is awesome, plenty of ram and storage space, sonys tech support is good and makes my dad happy every time he calls, he has many questions about windows vista and they answer everything without any problems, me and him have cybershot also and using the sony pro stick duo with the laptop and the camera then in my psp and ps3 is so fantasticly easy and smooth. Sony keep up the good work my family and friends love you.

  4. This is my second VAIO. We also own a Toshiba Satellite. This VAIO works so much better than my previous VAIO with Vista. Everything has worked solid and quick. The hardware, HD, and RAM are awesome and this is a great purchase for someone needing a PC for home use, not extreme gaming. I look forward to keeping this around for years.

  5. I ordered this Vaio (in grey) from Amazon over a month ago when it was offered as a Gold Box item. His Compaq mini-tower had died two months prior and I thought a laptop would make more sense for him now.

I am not going to go into the technical mumbo-jumbo because you can see the specs posted in the product description section. Suffices to say that it is adequately supplied with memory, has sufficient disk storage and comes with... hmmm... Vista.

On the computer itself, it is a true laptop, meaning that it's not a TOO large mini-super-computer-emulator but not too small either. The display looks great. The keyboard is only adequate. This model does not come with a mouse so, if you don't want to depend on the little touchpad, make sure you have a USB mouse handy.

Installation... well you turn it on and it works. As it is always the case with 'consumer' computers, as soon as you turn it on, you are bombarded with tons of tutorials and various pre-installed trashware/bloatware - the usual suspects: AOL, Macaffee, Adobe, Norton... It took me a couple of hours to clean it up and leave only the stuff that was not on a 'trial' base and get rid of all the well-meaning spyware.

So, after cleanup, we got ourselves a nice, Wi-Fi enabled, AOL/Explorer/Macaffee/Norton-free little laptop that my son loves using for his personal entertainment and for the occasional school homework - Microsoft Works comes pre-installed for that.

Battery life appears to be adequate but the battery is relatively slow to charge - I guess you can't have everything at the same time.

On the 'cool' factor. The laptop comes equipped with a built-in camera almost invisible, it plays DVDs and, of course it has a microphone. My kid also likes the text-to-speech capability but he's telling me that the computer is more often wrong than right when interpreting his words. The cool stuff that DOES work is the fingerprint authentication. You provide the computer your fingerprints and you no longer need to enter username/password ever again. You simply slide your finger (any finger) over the reader and, you're authenticated.

I never had to call the Sony customer service, so I can't comment on that. I am very much a do-it-yourself type when it comes to computer (never on cars).

Overall rating: I am satisfied with the the laptop but the keyboard could have been better.

  1. My daughter was quite surprised to get her laptop computer. She started using it right away and now I can't get her off of it.

  2. Sluggish performance, not the good to type with (i use one for work) and for god's sake have a mouse becasue the track pad is from the pit's of hell itself as with most dell laptops.

  3. This is a fantastic laptop, It is a business machine and it has everything you need to conduct business on the road.

    I highly recommend this laptop.

  4. My laptop arrived with obvious signs of use, a non-functioning AC adapter, and no frills whatsoever... such as installation disks or user manuals. All you get is the laptop and a power cable (that didn't work, in my case). It was cheap, though.

5 comments about HP Pavilion Artist Edition DV2890NR 14.1-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. The laptop is very powerful and handles Vista with no issues. The wireless N works great! 130 Mbps with full signal ;)
The colors outside are Ok, I got used to them after a while, but the plastic shiny material is a fingerprints magnet. I still don't understand why they keep making the laptops like this.
I was expecting better battery life and less weight. I'm kind of disappointed on these items.
HDMI port works fine. Speakers are fine. It'd be nice to have a 3rd USB port instead of the Modem port (who needs it?)
Anyway, for U$S 900 I'm happy with the HP Artist Edition.

  2. is imposible that with this notebook you can't record audio streaming because haven't stereo mix or line in if something good or very good your listen in internet with this machine you can't capture.the support HP just says sorry but don't give any solution i'm really dissapointed with this purchase probably this notebook will be returned

  3. Well i just love it.. it's so artistic and so personal.. the performance is good.. the heating is not that much (thanks to the fan openings that doesn't get blocked if u placed it on ur lap.

over all it's a coool laptop.. but the quickplay think is not that good

  4. This is an excellent notebook with very good especifications.
and the design is very nice.

  5. I ordered this laptop with 2 day delivery and the delivery was right on time before I had to be out of town and wanted to take the computer with me. I have an HP Pavillion Media Center Desk Top for almost 2 years and have been very happy with it, so it made sense to order another HP when I was searching for a laptop. This laptop was by far the easiest computer to get set up and learn all the new features that I was not familiar with. I also like the Artist version, which stands out when I am out with the laptop -- no chance of someone mistaking it for their's! I am very pleased with my HP laptop, as well as Amazon.com's service. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star is that the system is a bit slow to boot up -- but from that point on, it works very well.

5 comments about MSI Wind 10" Mini Laptop (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 3 Cell Battery) Black.
  1. I got the Wind via the pre-order from MSI, It is top quality, excellent display, and the atom is fast. Only problem, the wireless drivers are not available for linux so, I am stuck with XP for a while. There is a work around with Ubuntu, but it did not work for me. I had an asus eee pc 701 and 900. This unit is great. 5 stars, no complaints.

Updated 5/16: Still love this computer, but the battery life is not that good. However, the 3 cells are around because of the fire at the LG battery plant in Korea. Still, some of the Dell units that are bigger, only give you 4 cells as a started. So, I am not complaining. Still can't run linux wifi, which can be overcome by changing wifi card. But that will void warranty

    UPDATED

I sold my Wind, I bought the Asus EEE pc 1000H. Bigger battery, and brighter screen. But I can upgrade the memory to 2G and the warranty is not voided. The 1000h flys with 2g. The wifi drivers still do not work with Linux, but you can plug in an external usb adapter and it works in Linux

  2. Awesome computer, however the 3 cell battery is woefully inadequate for a mobile computer. Only getting around 2 hours on a computer that specializes in mobility. They shouldn't have bothered with this until they had enough 6 cell batteries.

  3. Best purchase I've ever made on Amazon hands down, and I have bought a lot of stuff on here! I opted to put an alternative OS on this little treat of a UMPC. 10" is the perfect size too, 8.9" is too small for anything. Looks and works great, also practically dead silent.

  4. This is the best netbook on the market right now it has the perfect size and specifications. When I tell people about it the first thing they say is what is MSI? So I tell them who they are, and they are not pleased until i show them. They absolutely go ballistic. The size and cute factor is what reels people in.

Whats on the bad side of this laptop is the customer service. They have a terrible phone system. You can follow every key prompt and still someone has to transfer you when you finally reach an operator. Thats after waiting for 30 min also. The reason why I had to call them was because the battery went kaput not even a week of owning it. Now this might be just my case but I have never had anything go out that quick before. I am still waiting for the laptop battery now.

  5. I liked the size and look of the netbook. Unfortunately my screen was defective and I had to return it. I ended up buying an ASUS 1000H which had wireless N, larger battery, and $100 less than an equivalent Wind with 6 cell battery.

Neither one is 100% perfect, but I am happy I switched.

5 comments about Toshiba Satellite A205-S5812 15.4-inch Laptop (Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. Just ordered two of these, arrived, opened up one to check it, found there is no web cam integrated into the bezel whatsoever. Also the case is black and not 'Onyx blue metallic'. Amazon's own description of this laptop is misleading and incorrect. Buyer beware. Amazon has been contacted and these laptops are going back to them, at their expense. No genuine 'sorry' given. They said they will update the product description with the correct information. Too little, too late!

  2. Let's jump right in. I have a u205 toshiba model a A215 AMD based Laptop same toshiba . For some reason the A205 model well while a good basic laptop
better than Acer anyway . Well the A205-S5804 from Toshiba just sucks if u are looking for a solid performance and reliable laptops from toshiba look towards the A215 models and U Series from the maker.
In conlusion i gave this model from toshiba 2 very big thumbs down.

  3. I bought this computer March 12, 2008 for just under $750, right before it jumped to almost $1100. Excellent laptop for what I payed for it definitely 5 star material. The screen is incredible I often forget that it is only 15.4", Lots of RAM and hard drive space for advanced software suites, and multiple operating systems. I have put up to 3 Linux partitions in addition to the existing vista partition at one time (I was testing some diffent distros out) and I have had more than enough space to do that and put 3000 songs and countless movies on it with more than enough room to spare.

  4. Toshiba's A205-S5804 is one of the worst put together laptops I've seen, and as a PC repair technician I've seen quite a few. There are only 2 USB ports on the left side of the machine - which means you need a long USB mouse cord to loop around the back of the machine (for right handed people).

The USB ports are extremely close together and parallel to each other, so any devices you have MUST have an extension cord. Large flash drives, MP3 players, and USB modems will block the 2nd USB port. You must purchase USB extension cords and/or a USB hub. This is extremely frustrating to anyone using Vista's readyboost feature, which allows a flash drive to be used as extra virtual memory.

An Express Card slot allows you to slide a card into the machine, the only problem is that there IS NO Express Card hardware. It is amazingly frustrating to spend 20 minutes trying to line up pins for a device that does not exist.

Preinstalled software includes a gigantic program for controlling Bluetooth (a wireless device like WiFi mostly for printers and phones). This might lead someone to believe that Bluetooth is built into the machine... it isn't. Massive amounts of RAM are devoted to running software controllers for hardware that does not exist.

Also preinstalled are (1) Games you can play only once before having to pay Toshiba to play again (2) Resource hogging anti-virus software that expires in 30 days before demanding hundreds of dollars to keep using it (3) MS Office suite with 30 day expiration

All in all, a badly put together machine. For the same price you can get a refurbished Dell Inspiron with a faster processor, three times the RAM, double the hard drive space, and an integrated 2 mega pixel webcam. HP also makes excellent machines, both refurbished and new. Avoid Toshiba.

  5. This computer was okay for me at first. But after less than a year, now it's having some major problems. It holds a charge with the new charger I had to buy(the old one broke easily) but it will not charge itself. The charger also falls out easily(as it did with the original charger as well). I had to buy a new battery for it, but it turns out that wasn't the problem. I now have to by a new charger for it, but I don't think that's going to be the problem either as the charger is managing to make the laptop stay on.

I think it's actually that piece that you connect the charger into on the computer. And if it is, I have no idea how to fix that. Not to mention I've already spent over 100$ trying to find out what's wrong with this thing.

Far too many problems for being less than a year old. Not to mention, it's running Vista(granted, sadly, all computers are nowadays).

  1. This product came in as advertised, I was really pleased with the expedient delivery and quality of product. I saved over 600 dollars by going through TigerDirect. Thanks for Everything!

  2. I started having problems from the 1st minute. The computer function very slow reminded me the speed of computers 15 years ago. Then I started having sound and graphics malfunction. I had to do system restore which helped for less then 30 min's. I ended up returning it.

  3. I love my computer and I only notice one bad thing about it. The battery life after charging is kinda low. But as long as your keep it charged it works great!

  4. I like it a lot. It is very small and compact and the blue is beautiful. This laptop came very fast and in good conditions. And the software installation is very easy.

  5. Mine broke within the first week. I would like to think it was a rare occurance, but let's just say I won't be buying a Vaio again. I booted it up one morning to read "critical error, please enter original CDs". . . did it come with original CDs? Nope!

  1. Good luck reading this. i've had this computer five days so far (from Office Depot, after my desktop had a BIOS update/OS freeze issue) and it has been everything i thought it would be and more (especially for the price). Actually my rating is probably a 4.75. Here are are the Windows Experience Index scores this computer has (mine and the one at the store).

    Processor: 4.8
    Memory (RAM): 5.8
    Graphics: 4.1
    Gaming Graphics: 3.8
    Primary Hard Disc: 5.3

So, this computer is not exactly a gaming rig, but seems solid. The graphics scores are hurt by the integrated ATI Radeon 3100. Window Vista 64 bit, dual core processor and a 10 key were key items my lists(the 4GB of 6400 RAM didn't hurt). This is not an aesthetically unappealing computer either. All my programs have worked so far. The FM antenna worked well (better reception than my radio). The DVD burner seems to work well. i liked the touchpad better than most notebooks i have seen (it is flush with the keyboard and less smooth/slippery than some other notebooks i have seen), though i am now using a wireless mouse. Also, the sound on this computer is good (playing MP3s, etc) and the computer actually has a volume dial.

Unfortunately this does come with more that a few bloatware/free trials programs. This computer is not that light either, but it is a desktop replacement (i have the dimensions at about 15.5" x 11.5" x 1.75"). TI is probably going to take a while when you set it up downloading the updates. Another possible negative to this computer is that the battery life i got the first time i tried it was about 1:27 minutes (though i was running a virus scan, surfing the internet using wireless and using the default highest brightness). i got the multicard adapter to read SD, but not xD yet (maybe that has to do with the fact that i deleted the driver, but luckily found it again under one of the Tosiba desktop icons). i couldn't get the face recognition to register correctly, so i uninstalled it (not really that useful anyway). The area by the touchpad does get a little warm. There are no HDMI/REGZA links on this computer or Bluetooth. Another negative is that i can't seem to get the plasticy strip off of the hinge. The screen, the keyboard (kind of glossy) and the case attract dust like a magnet.

3 comments about Acer Aspire 5315-2290 Laptop (2.0 Ghz Intel Celeron Processor, 120 GB Hard drive, Windows Vista Home Premium).
  1. I bought the new acer laptop 2days ago.....It seem to be beautiful and sturdy looking laptop till i realized it had problem with the display. It goes blank after 15 min due to the power settings ....but it does not come back even when i move my mouse or short press the power button.I changed the power settings ....but went invain. Now i have no other choice than sending it back to amazon. I really wished it dint have this problem. Even worse is that Acer doesnt even have a reachable phone support. guess i dont have any other choice.

  2. First acer I had got a problem with keyboard failing - would work fine in bios but not after loading windows - looked like a software problem but after some research turns out to be an acer hardware problem. Assumed it was just a one off. Bought a 2nd acer (aspire 5315) - spontaneously turns off without warning - no gentle shut down - just turns off - turns out to be a known acer problem with fans not working properly unless you use built in acer epower manager which really slows the machine down. Also on my 2nd acer Adobe Creative Suite 3 wouldn't run on Windows vista home basic - fair enough since I then find out that Adobe obviously thought vista home basic wasn't a fully working OS and never certified it to work on home basic, however when I upgraded to vista professional - it still wouldn't work on the acer. I tried installing Creative Suite 3 on my toshiba (with vista home basic) & it worked fine. Toshiba good. Acer bad.

  3. i baught this as a cheap notebook to carry on jobs with me because of the laptop's connectivity options! the laptop contains both a wireless nic and a 10/100 wired card built in plus an old 56k modem!
the acer 5315 looks cheap with its plastic case but, is more durable than it looks! the integrated web cam was more than adequate! my unit came with vista home basic!
crapware abounds on this laptop! i have never seen so much crapware on any computer! it took me 30-40 minutes to remove it all!

their are 2 complaints that i have with this laptop! the first being it's integrated touchpad! it was so sensetive! it would select things by itself and open windows by itself, etc... just from moving your hand anywhere near it! i had to disable it in favor of a usb mouse!

the second problem i had was plugging in usb cables into it's ports was very, very, hard! just make sure you have both hands holding the laptop firmly when you plug things in lest it end up on the floor! i suspect this problem may improve as the laptop ages!

for less than 500.00! you can't really complain about it's performance! i find it has an adequate screen and fairly good perfomance for the price!

5 comments about ASUS Eee Pc 4G (7-inch Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB Solid-State Drive, Linux Preloaded) Blush Pink.
  1. I spend a lot of time traveling to and waiting in doctors offices. In the past, that time was lost but since I received my Eee PC, waiting time is now productive time. The little computer boots up quickly and it's battery lasts for a couple hours without needing a charge. So now, if I'm told that I'll be waiting for hours for a scheduled appointment, I just pull out my Eee PC and start working. I quickly adjusted to the small keyboard and find I'm able to work on it almost as quickly as my regular computer. However, I have small hands and I think that helps. The keyboard would be awkward for someone with large hands.

  2. I bought this pretty mini laptop a couple of week ago, I just can said that I really love this notebook, the size is perfect to go anywhere with it, the weight is around 1 Kg that is unbelievable light, I put in my backpack I can felt the difference between a real notebook. The linux software for me is better than windows I never have problem to run my application. I good point to buy this pretty mini notebook is the super fast boot up and shut down. The programs open so quickly and I never find a virus in my eeepc 4G. I love go to my class with this laptop the keyboard are little but if you now to type you don't have a problem with this. The wireless card are so good, Its catch all the signals of my university. The webcam is a extra value is not the best resolution I saw in a webcam but is similar to competitor. I really recommend this computer for anyone that like an extreme mobility and amazing partner in studies.

  3. Wanted a $500 laptop and this was it. Windows XP version was not out yet when I bought this around a year ago. Pros: very, very quick boot up and for WiFi to lock in signal; works great for reading, writing emails, reviewing pdf docs, Word document editing, Xcel document editing. Falls apart when docs get too intensive with graphics and macros, etc. Very light weight, very quick shut down compared to Windows XP computers. Never worry about viruses due to Linux OS. Cons: I came up using DOS and Windows, so I don't know anything about Linux, so it took effort to "customize" things. Youtube videos choppy sometimes, even though I increased RAM to 1 GB. Storage of file is awful since no resident hard drive. If you use memory card, then computer runs annoying start-up panel that you must dismiss/respond to. I'm pretty computer literate but could not synch this computer with my desktop Outlook database. No on-board DVD player so you cannot watch movies. Conclusion: this computer is suited for very light office work, quick jump on and jump off internet surfing and emails. Of course prices of laptops that use Microsoft software dropping so fast that this Linux computer no longer on the cutting edge.

  4. I bought this item for a specifc purpose and within hours of getting it I knew it was a great choice. A have to admit a friend who earns a living as a computer professional helped me decide. Right after I received it and took it to the place he, I, and other friends visit a lot he had to checked it out. Well, he ordered one right there and 3 others took down all the info and thought they would also order it. And let me tell you their purposes were different from mine. So it's a shame Amazon doesn't have a referral program for maybe some gift cards. This item is really nice. Just what I need to write short stories. My regular laptop, which I rarely use, is too heavy and bulky. The keyboard takes some getting use to but what new electronics don't. Bought the Kindle book reader same time and it's hard to put one down to pick up the other. Am not that smart about hardware. All I know is if it does what I want it's good. Software-wise I do lots of 3d graphics with many commercial programs. The software included here is more than enough for most casual users. Certainly not for the specialized computer user but thats a good thing. Surf the net, use word processing, spreadsheets, presentations. databases, etc? Then is the laptop for you and the price is great. Oh and it's fast.

  5. Exactly what I was looking for. After carrying a heavy laptop that hardly fits under the plane seat, I was thrilled to get this unit to travel with. When on the road, we use it to catch up on email and browse the web.

I 'pimped' it to use the normal Linux front end, much nicer than the dumbed down front end.

The web cam was an extra perk I paid for, but it only works with Skype, and not the usual IM suspects supported under pidgin. I tried to download the Yahoo IM for Linux software, but th were too many dependencies for things not availalble on the debian OS provided.
