5 comments about Toshiba Satellite R25-S3503 14.1" Laptop (Intel Core Duo Processor T2050, 1024 MB RAM, 100 GB Hard Drive, DVD SuperMulti +/- Dbl Layer Drive).
- i have been using the tablet for a couple of months. it is fun working with it. the tablet functionality is handled exceptionally well. battery life is good with 3 hours backup. the design of the tablet is also very good . the keypad and the touch pad are very well designed. the speed of the tablet is also good. overall its the kind of product everyone will love to have.
- Excellent screen, a nice compromise between low glare, and image quality. It's not too glossy looking, yet the colors are not as washed out as some tablet PC's coated screens can be. The higher resolution is also a major plus.
Honestly, there are plenty of better, smaller, and faster Tablet PC's out there (namely Toshiba's M400, which is what I considered before getting the R25, but it's more than twice the price) but when it comes right down to it, the value cannot be beat right now.
The Dual Core 1.6GHz CPU is just enough to handle Painter X.5 and Photoshop CS2, which I use all the time. While not a screamer, it's a goos compromise between speed, and run time/heat. One nice thing, is the fan does not run full blast all the time. It ramps up when you're using CPU intensive programs, but if you are just surfing, it is a lot quieter.
My sole major complaint is hinge latch. It is far too loose, and easy to detach. When I have it closed, it unlatches even when just brushing up against the latch release. So, it often unlatches when I put it in my bag.
Also, it's pretty heavy, but then again, considering it's size and features, that's to be expected.
The DVD SuperMulti drive is disappointing. It has trouble recognizing DVD+R media, and kept defaulting to 2.5X speed for 8X media that worked fine in other drives.
Overall, the R25 is an unbeatable value, if I had it to do all over again, I'd buy it again.
- I am thinking about buying a Tablet PC for one specific reason: During meetings I want to be able to handwrite notes that would convert directly to text in Outlook's diary function. Is the OCR good enough for this or is handwriting more hype than real?
Thanks
- Our tablet pc arrived in a timely manner but shortly there after the hard drive locked up. Returned pc as instructed and haven't heard from them, except poorly worded emails. no answer on supplied telephone no. Completely dissatisfied
- perfect many thanks

- I've had this laptop for 6 months. The feature set is very good.
BATTERY:
Battery life is fairly poor compared to others in its class (As also reported in a leading consumer research magazine (hint=CR)). I haven't found this to be a big problem because I bought an inverter for my car.
OS:
It comes with vista... but I'm not going to review that here. It works. Expect that you'll have some problems using your old webcams and printers.
COOLING:
Something that is fairly annoying about this particular model of laptop is that the fan has to really work hard to cool it when its sitting on the desk. The fan is on the bottom and looks like 50mm in size, or so. If i leave it flat on the desk, it increases RPMs (rotation speed) and gets pretty loud. If I put a paperback book under the laptop, then there is more space underneath and the fan can cool the laptop much more effectively. And it is much quieter. So I think the cooling system is poorly designed, and they should have provided a kickstand or had taller feet. So my laptop is almost always sitting on a book, which is irritating.
SPEAKERS:
The speakers only work well in a quiet environment. Although its labelled an entertainment PC, you'll need external speakers if you want to really enjoy a movie. If you watch a movie in the car ... The road noise in even the quietest car swallows up the sound that is output by the laptop, and then you can't hear it. But, what can you expect from laptop speakers anyway.
Other than that, the USB, Wifi, screen, all work well. The multifunction cardreader is a very nice and useful addition. The included TV tuner (with card to convert to coax) is a nice feature to have, although I personally don't use it very much. It works very well with my version wireless broadband card when I am on the road.
If you can get a good deal, go ahead and buy it.

- I just bought this notebook yesterday so I can't say much about its long term durability or HP customer service yet, but I can say without hesitation that it is THE best deal out there for a 17" Core 2 Duo notebook with so many bells and whistles for its price. I had been researching for a suitable notebook for over a month and finally chose this over a comparable Sony Vaio (in terms of the specs, not the price, for the Vaio was several hundreds more). The screen is amazing and the dedicated NVidia graphics card makes a HUGE difference in the way the new Vista GUI operates. I highly recommend this. My advise to anyone planning to run Vista on a notebook is to have 2 GB ram and a separate graphics card.
- Just bought this baby and am glad I did so. This is an awesome computer. It is THE BEST deal around. Amazon spec states one headphone plug - it comes with two. Built in microphone - there are two on either side of a webcam giving stereo field. It also features full size keyboard with separate numerical keys - just like on your desktop. Vista looks georgeous on this screen.
Best looking/functioning notebook I owned to date.
- I use this laptop as a traveling IT project manager and business consultant. This machine is a great performer. The monitor is bright, crisp and color is great. Unfortunately, it didn't come with the option of bundling Office 2007 products with. So, budget for an extra $300 once you have purchased Office and Antivirus, etc.
Now for the good part, when I am not using the laptop for work, game on! World of Warcraft is my recent addiction. With the settings almost maxed out, the frame rate is fluid with no flicker or freezing. Just dont try this with a power source. Gaming in High Performance mode will suck the battery dry in a skinny minute. The nvidia 7600 graphics card is an important option for anyone who intends to game or anything that requires intense video.
Used the bundled software to burn mpeg movies to DVD. Worked perfectly at 2x.
Wish HP had included on-board bluetooth. I had to buy a Kingston bluetooth dongle for $30.
- HP Pavilion dv9330us 17" Entertainment Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5300, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, SuperMulti DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Once you buy from Elecsurf, you will never hear from them again. Their initial service was excellent, but do not buy their extended warranty because they will not respond to you if there is a problem. I had an issue with my item and tried to contact them through endless emails, and even Amazon could not get any response from them to reply. I ended up paying to have my item repaired, and now I am out of $129.99 which I paid to Elecsurf. I think what bothers me most is that I have purchased countless items from Amazon and this is the only company that has soiled their reputation. The rating applies to the product, Elecsurf gets a 0.

3 comments about Sony VAIO VGN-FE660G 15.4" Laptop (Intel Core Duo Processor T2300, 1 GB RAM, 100 GB Hard Drive, DVD+R Dbl Layer/DVD+/-RW Drive).
- Before buying this laptop, I was using some other brands. So its easy for me to compare and justify the performance & functionality of Sony Vaio FE660G laptop. I am really surprised to see how beautifully this laptop have all ports arranged...you will never feel inconvinient while using them.
Its slim shape, black & white combination gives it sexy look. It has ultimate sound quality. I have never heard such crystal clear sound in any laptop before. The display is good too. It makes you feel like home theater. The inbuilt wireless lan card speed is as good as direct lan connection. The memory card adapter & memory stick slot makes it complete multimedia support system.
The only thing I can find missing in this laptop is the inbuilt camera support. Rests so far it is keeping me happy all the time!!!
- I just received my made-to-order FE790 and am overall pretty happy. Great design, nice looking, good battery life, gorgeous screen and fast T7200 core 2 duo proc make this a joy to use. Graphics by Nvidia's Go 7600 are great for gaming, often a tough task for a notebook, but one I demand.
Complaints? Wireless performance is not as good as my 2 year old Dell Inspiron 6000D, even though they both use the same built-in Intel Pro wireless card. Support is pretty bad also, drivers on Sony's website are a mess, with the current webcam driver listed under my model being the completely wrong one. The amount of pre-installed bloatware that was on my notebook when I received it was absolutely obnoxious. Last, Sony does not supply CD/DVD reinstall disks like Dell. The restore files (along with all the unwanted software) are hidden in a 5gb partition that is annoying to access and use should the need to reinstall ever arise.
Sony was one of the very few manufacturer's that offered the hardware combination that I needed, and they did so for a surprisingly fair price considering their reputation as expensinve. I would heartily recommend this notebook but would also suggest looking around at other manufacturers as the Core 2 Duo market opens up and more models become available.
- It was a well choice to buy this product through Amazon web site. i'm very happy!
