5 comments about Apple MacBook MB402LL/A 13.3" Laptop (2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive) White.
- I have been using a pc for MANY years... in fact, my pc knowledge has definitely helped me advance in my banking career (technology and banking). I used to build pc's, troubleshoot, fix, etc...Let me tell you from beginning to end to get a pc the way I want it from a fresh install is about 3.5 hours. Macbook fresh install done much quicker and programs install much faster. Plus, mac gives you restore disks, not bullcrap partition on your hard drive. Also, you dont see the junk that you do on new pc's.
Enter the macbook. Mine> 2.4 ghz core2 duo, 4gb ram, 13.3 white. I love this damn thing.
Story: my brother gets accepted to Cal and has no money for a laptop. I give him my hpdv6701 (great pc but w/ vista, eghhh). so im in need for a new laptop. I hear about macbooks so I go to best buy and check them out. I was hesitant at first but its because of my lack of knowledge about macs...I was trying to compare based on specs but not power/performance. I thought they were expensive (they are) but rightly so. A comparable pc would be the same price, if not more expensive!! DONT COMPARE 500-600 DOLLAR PC'S TO THIS MACBOOK BASED ON SPECS....THE PROCESSOR IN THIS MACBOOK IS STELLAR!!!
I made the decision to buy and WOW, i am totally impressed. Somethings were different in making the transfer..but lets go over some things for those not to savvy with computers. Now, keep in mind, i had no troubles with my pc's, but im not the average joe, so here goes:
pros
* for those who dont know how to protect themselves, MACS do not get viruses!!! the old macs had about 60-80 viruses, but the new systems have no documented viruses. Windows? thousands of viruses.
*installing applications is drag and drop. EASY
*looks are beyond comparison
*battery life is excellent
*no need to consistently restart computer
*powerful processor
*weighs less than 5 lbs (13.3 macbook)
*powerful (add the 4gb and you fly). BTW, dont upgrade ram through apple, wayyyyy to expensive. Check out new egg dot com
*graphics are amazing
*i never had to pay for any software but there are some free programs that are fantastic - neo office for those who need productivity comparable to ms office.
* it just works, no setting up thousands of options
cons
*apple uses mini dvi port for projectors and or external monitors on the macbook (pro uses regular dvi). mini dvi gets loose and just not that good of a connector. wish it was dvi or vga.
*if using it for awhile, macbook can get a bit warm. newest versions are not like older ones that had heating problems...if you get an ilap you will be good.
*you will not want to get off your macbook
conclusion:
buy it, its totally worth it.

- I love this computer! All I've heard about Macs is true, it works so well! I am very pleased with the good price on Amazon and how quickly it shipped.
- It's now eight days since I got my new MacBook "white" after more than 4 months reading and searching to get convinced enough to do that move, and pew I did it :)
Let's start with the hardware specifications, it has 13.3 inch widescreen with (LED backlight technology) this extra-awesome hyper saturated colors. (I read a few articles about LED backlighting and it differs from the old CCFL screens, you can read more about that here http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/06/macbook-pro-backlight-comparison-led-vs-ccfl/ ). And it has an Intel 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo processor with 4 megabytes L3 cache, 160GB 5400RPM SATA (low-noise) disk, 2.27kg weight, 5 hours-long battery and Airport Wireless card that supports 802.11n technology with awesome reception accuracy and iSight camera.
The most astonishing thing for now is the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard 64bit, AWESOME operating system, and I can really understand now why apple always said that it's the most advanced operating system in the world, they are right, it's. :) it's a very well designed for a great user experience and you'll see many snapshots in the next few posts and well. it has more than 300 new features over the previous version "Tiger 10.4 and the main thing you'll notice about mac is that it's a REAL FAST.
The great news is that most of the well known and famous applications I needed are available for mac, like microsoft office and it's open source clone open office, adobe creative suite 3, yahoo messenger, MSN messenger and iChat works as an awesome jabber chat client.
The first thing I'm so happy about is that I chose The white model. That's because the surface is very finger-print catching and can be easily scratched, but happily the white color hides most of it.
Also, it's really fast.
I use it mostly for music, internet, pictures, movies, homework pretty much what everybody uses a computer for. Also, I use it for my research, extensive statistics work and various medical work, and it works great
iLife is awesome and so is leopard (find out at apple.com)
like when you turn on your pc it has load and load and load then when the desktop finally pops up then if you click on something it takes like 1/2 an hour to open up
on this laptop it loads and and when the desktop shows you click something and it actually opens like its supposed to
I have been using pcs all my life and i just got fed up with them.
It is very nice computer to use especially during presentations (Apple Keynote is Awesome, especially, its presenter mode).
Spotlight is very effective tool for searching for papers. Also, there are limitless possibilities and solutions for scientific purposes.
Finally,
Advantages:
1- Very Fast.
2- Reliable computer.
3- Can run windows and mac osx applications (I use VMWare as a virtual machine).
4- Lots of tools for your research (example ofr nice software for research: Sente, Papers, Endnote, Yep, ...etc).
5- Stylish.
6- Perfect Screen.
7- Good Battery Life.
8- Durable (I dropped it twice).
9- Nice for chatting and communication (It's isight integration is flawless).
10- Perfect software and hardware integration.
Disadvantages:
1- Needs more RAM (At least 2 GB Ram).
2- Speakers are not so strong.
Finally,
It is a perfect laptop for a graduate student for the price.
- I purchased an Apple laptop out of frustration with the windows-based laptops I have had in the past. Unfortunately, I still have to run windows-based programs on the Mac. So far, it works as advertised with notably easier addition of periphreals such as printers, etc. It's a little frustrating trying to do all the things I did in Windows, and the lack of a backspace key is odd. On the more positive side, it's not stopped on me once while I have been working, even on the internet!! I'm looking forward to years of, if not trouble-free, less troublesome use with this machine.
- Works like a charm and handles everything I have thrown at it. This was a replacement for an old G3 iBook which served me well for years. The new model is thinner, brighter and a bit more refined as well as being (obviously) faster. I really like the keyboard; for some reason I make fewer typing mistakes compared with my home keyboard. My wife will be getting one soon as well.

5 comments about HP Pavilion Artist Edition DV2890NR 14.1" Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
- Basically the HP Pavilion Artist Ed. does live up to its standards. I tried this by opening several applications such as the webcam, bluetooth, browser, and office doc. all at the same time and didn't experience any bugs or glitches. Only problem was when I installed silverlight or a particular application with an add-on (not so sure), my IE browser started to crash again and again everytime I'd try to exit/close it. Also, I was wondering why it didn't come with a 60-day trial version of Microsoft Office even though it was claimed to come as part of the package??? I had to then install it by myself through a microsoft website... Kinda hassle don't ya think? Overall, I'd have to say it packs a punch for it's price and is travel friendly since it doesn't overheat quickly or weigh much.
- First thing i would like say is it is a amazing laptop...
Its worth the money you spend ....
It has a amazing looking body and the designs on it is really state of the art.
Well i just don't want to tell bout the way this laptop look like , but the specs is really amazing and you will pay really less amount of money for this kind of feature..
Its a laptop to have....
- I picked this up as the Kitchen Laptop.. It's not bad for her MSN Games, Office 2007 runs like a champ and all running on Vista.. The laptop does get a bit warm on the palm rests.. Only two USB ports on the right side.. It does however have a slick remote that will pop in the express bay and it does have a HDMI out..
Cons:
Artist Design
2 USB Ports
All connections on the sides of the latops, none on the back.
Pros
Everything else.
- A friend of mine (Isac Goulart) brought one this laptop for me on last May. It`s really amazing and works well (so far so good!!). It worths what I paid for it.
- The laptop is very powerful and handles Vista with no issues. The wireless N works great! 130 Mbps with full signal ;)
The colors outside are Ok, I got used to them after a while, but the plastic shiny material is a fingerprints magnet. I still don't understand why they keep making the laptops like this.
I was expecting better battery life and less weight. I'm kind of disappointed on these items.
HDMI port works fine. Speakers are fine. It'd be nice to have a 3rd USB port instead of the Modem port (who needs it?)
Anyway, for U$S 900 I'm happy with the HP Artist Edition.

5 comments about Nokia N810 Portable Internet Tablet.
- I already had an iPod touch, and after much consideration, I decided to get the N810 too. It is AWESOME. Especially with the Diablo upgrade. It's very fast and snappy, the browser is much better than that of the iPod touch. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a highly mobile cloud computing and media playack and navigation platform.
- I purchased the Nokia N810 Portable Internet Tablet as a birthday gift. The description of the tablet being able to connect by Bluetooth using your cell phone has not to been the case. It will connect in a Wi-Fi area, but that is not was I was expecting. It will work, but it doesn't do what the gift and cost of the product entailed. I am somewhat disappointed with it.
- I purchased the 810 primarily as a highly portable device to read my yahoo mail. I have been less than happy with the 810's performance on this task. The response to my attempts to scroll are slow and awkward. My old Nokia 770 actually does a better job in handling yahoo mail. The 770 will only handle yahoo mail classic, but it does that well.
In general I have found the 810 response to stylus touch to be very slow and not real useful. The GPS/map features are over hyped. Because the stylys touch response is so slow, it is hard to get exactly the map view you want. If you are thinking of buying one, you might want to wait for their next model or get one of the new sub notebook computers.
- I bought the Nokia n810 to replace my iPhone; I was tired of being "locked-in" and not fully owning my system. So far, It's pretty nice, and I'm able to use it for things I was never able to effectively use my iPhone for; loading MP3, Movies, etc, your not stuck using iTunes, just copy the content you want to the MMC card and away you go. You don't have to "crack" into the n810 to gain access to it like the iPhone.
Since Nokia supports the Maemo project, I expect to see the n810 surpass the iPhone in what I can do with it.
- I bought the N810 a while ago, and have to say that it wasnt the best performance wise, but after upgrading to the new Diablo firmware, i performes oustanding. Videos look and play perfect, and everything else that comes with it. I told my self, if it can play videos at full screen, with no lag, then it should be able to handle everything else, and it really does. I didnt like the fact that you have to pay to install and run the gps software, and also it didnt come with a screen protector. HAd to get them separate. I have no problems with the word imput methods, which are the on screen keyboard, and the slide keyboard. Over all i gave it the highest rating because for people like me it serves its purpose, like video playback, music, high res pictures, internet, and all the apps that come with it, which are seriously useful for the mobile life.

5 comments about Asus Eee PC 2G Surf (7" Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 2 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded) Pure White.
- I absolutely love the little machine! It's perfect for my needs. Friends are planning on purchasing the little PC as Christmas gifts for their kids.
- This is a tiny laptop. It's a little bit difficult to use the keyboard because it's so small. Also the battery doesn't last very long. However it is very lightweight and perfect to take on a trip if you want to check your email and do some light stuff. It fits in my purse! I love it but as a secondary computer, you couldn't use it as your one and only.
- This little computer does what it's supposed to and for a low price. The unit requires occasional horizontal scrolling, but other than that is identical in use to a larger one. There was no problem useing the Linux operating system--its fast and works well. This is great for travel. I only wish my Verizon wireless modem worked with Linux; unfortunately it only works with Windows.
- Basically, what you see is what you get. It is pretty spiffy and small though. I recommend if you want a small internet surfing machine.
- I like the small size. However, the poor resolution (800x480) of the screen makes it hard for normal internet usage. One would assume the flash drive would make the PC run very fast, but it seem to run as slow as any other sub-$300 laptop. Finally the battery life should be a LOT longer than a normal laptop since it has no moving parts, but it doesn't last very long. Next time I will just spend a little bit more and buy a laptop without the limitations this one has.

5 comments about ASUS Eee PC 900 12G (8.9" Display, 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU, 1 GB RAM, 12 GB Solid State Drive, XP Home, 4 Cell Battery) Pearl White.
- Performance is great, just make sure to install XP on the 4gb partition
Mouse and keyboard specially are bit too small, but you'll get used to it. I recommend this for basic use and more, but if you are picky get the eeePC 901.
- love this computer.. so small so compact, good for net surfing, email. Come with MS office, nice little toy to carry around the world.
- I bought this computer to replace my wife's Sharp MM20,that was uneconomical to repair due to a damaged screen, and is no longer available new. I searched for a replacement for weeks and bought the EeePC 900 which seemed the best replacement available at a reasonable price. I have waited for a month to learn about the machine prior to writing a review. Had I written my review sooner, it would have had more stars, here is why I reduced the star rating.
Out of the box everything worked, except I had difficulties getting a good connection with my wireless router. I got the connection established, but, it constantly tried to validate my identity. Two calls to tech support, failed to resolve the issue. The best thing I can say about tech support is that you can reach them relatively easily. They are not particularly nice nor competent. They are quick to shift the problem to others, saying we don't deal with that, call your internet provider or other software provider.
When my wife, a flight attendant, returned from her first trip using the ASUS 900, I had to try again to resolve the wireless issue since she was unable to connect with the internet at hotels where she has always been able to connect with her Sharp. This time when I contacted Tech support, I got a better representative, we deleted the wireless adapter from device manager and reinstalled it. That seems to have fixed the problem, since yesterday we went to a public WiFi location and were able to establish an internet connection.
Now for the more serious drawbacks. I have Network Magic installed on the unit so downloaded files, some of which can be large, can be transfered to a server on our home network. This is to preserve precious disk space on the PC900. Unfortunately, I keep getting warnings that an important update for XP is available and needs to be installed. That update is XP SP3. That is where things got messy. The hard drive is partitioned with 3.75 GB devoted to C: and the remaining 8.25 GB assigned as D: Trying to install SP3 failed due to insufficient space on C:. I began looking for items to delete or remove from C: to try making room. After several hours of trying I called tech support seeking suggestions; they offered none. Only telling me I needed to remove stuff from C: to make room. So into Control Panel Add/Remove Software I went - looking for stuff to remove.
The machine comes with OEM software installed, some on C: some on D:, however, from Add Remove Software, I could not determine on which drive the software was installed, and regardless, shared files are on C: even if the program is installed on D:. Hours later, after removing software and trying to move files and directories on C: I still encountered the insufficient disk space message. I decided to forget about SP3 and return to my prior configuration. That is when I discovered that the Restore function is turned off and cannot be activated. I had now messed up my configuration and removed programs and moved files, which would not work properly and in some cases would not reinstall. Without Restore the only alternative was to hook up an external DVD Drive and return the machine to original configuration. Good bye hours of work installing and configuring other software.
Conclusion: Things work as advertised. The installed software is questionable. There is a DVD player without a DVD drive. Who in their right mind buys a miniature computer for convenience, then carries an external DVD player. Star Suite 8 is installed, taking 866mb of disc space and seems to be identical to Open Office that uses less than 375mb, Huh!!. In addition to the DVD player and Star Suite 8, the PC900 comes with Skype and MS Works. With disc space severely constrained, why are two office type programs installed? ASUS makes a 20GB hard drive version that has Linux installed, why they don't make that drive available with XP, I cannot understand. The larger drive would allow larger partitions and solve a host of problems. Another review talks about buying that model and installing XP, if you have the XP program and the know how, that certainly seems a better option. Would I buy this unit knowing what I know now, probably not.
I hope you find this review informative.
- I love this mini PC! I got it because my laptop is a Compaq with a large screen, and it is really too heavy to lug around, especially when traveling. I can read e-mail. It has a power point viewer, and Microsoft works. There are some games already loaded.
I had some problems connecting to my wireless network at home. I contacted ASUS tech support, but what they suggested did not work. I took it to the Geek Squad, and they straightened that out. It works great!
I am glad I waited until the 8.9" screen came out to buy it, but I wish that it had been available in black. I had the 7 inch black one on my wish list. It comes with a case made of material, sort of like foam padding. I wish that it came with a case that would also store the charger.
- I wanted this cute PC so badly. The first one I ordered had a loud hum so I had to return it. The second one could not be connected to wireless internet. Customer service at Asus was perfectly nice but not very helpful. Had to return 2 of these. What a disappointment. In this case-- two strikes and they're out!

5 comments about Apple MacBook Pro MB133LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 200 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive).
- Having used both Mac and Windows products in the past, I decided to transition my home and business back to Mac after experimenting with Windows VISTA for a couple of weeks. The Macbook works well as expected, but I was happily surprised by the level of integration of audio/visual. A very nice design with no problems with either software or hardware after 2 months of use.
- I PURCHASED 15" MACBOOK PRO After MUCH THOUGHT AND RESEARCH. I HAVE BEEN A PC user for 15 years so
I was skeptical that MACS were all my coworkers made them out to be. Well I received my Macbook Pro three days after placing my order with Amazon and I could not be happier. Setup was a breeze, including the wireless interenet. I was emailing and loading and editing pictures in no time. The Apple support staff
are knowlegeable and a pleassure to deal with. I should have made the switch years ago.
I am also pleased with Amazon's fast delivery and you cannot beat their price. The notebook was packaged
securely and I have no complaints. I am very pleased.
- Nice machine. The first one we purchased had a problem with the screen, something called an inverter was loose and the screen was dark all the time. We haven't had any issues with this one. The screen quality, and the charger connection (magnetic) are especially nice.
- It's now eight days since I got my new MacBook Pro after more than 4 months reading and searching to get convinced enough to do that move, and pew I did it :)

- Fantastic Notebook. Switched from PC, and what a joy. The small learning curve is worth it. This notebook is Quality. Installed Parallels to run SolidWorks under Windows - and it works great in full screen mode. Have been on the road with this notebook for nearly a month, and it is a joy. So glad I am not traveling with my PC.

5 comments about ASUS Eee PC 900 20G (8.9 Inch Display, 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB Solid State Drive, Linux, 4 Cell Battery) Pearl White.
- This is a nifty little computer, but if you plan to use Windows XP on it, forget about it. The tech data indicates that it is easy to convert from Linux to XP...which it is. But, the miniscule 4GB F drive is totally taken up with Windows applications so the computer cannot function due to lack of space on this drive. I spoke to am Asus tech specialist, and there was no way he could make the computer work due to these limitations on the F drive. Of course there are another 16 GB on the C drive, but they are meaningless for functionality.
Don't buy this rip-off if you want to use XP.
- This machine has already met my expectations even though I've only had it for 2 days. The build is good quality, certainly doesn't look or feel cheap. The keyboard is rigid and works very well. I use a mini 87-key keyboard as my main keyboard for my desktop PC so there was barely any transitioning to do and typing is quick and virtually error free. Only slight problem I have is the size of the right shift key. That needs a bit of adjusting to, otherwise all the keys are positioned and sized correctly, and the key movement is definite.
The screen is excellent, crisp and clear. If you use this machine indoors the screen brightness is perfect, no complaints. I haven't used it outdoors so can't comment. The viewing angle is really good, much better than my other bigger 14" laptop.
There is no noise, haven't heard the fan power up at all, and for the African climate that's very good. The touchpad works extremely well - even more precise than my other laptop, and the smart functions are a bonus. The left pad button is a bit stiff, no problems with the right one. I quickly learnt that one has to depress the buttons from the top and not from the side or an angle. They feel stiffer if you don't depress them directly from above.
The 900 is ideally sized. It hardly takes any room on your desk and the screen can be viewed from up to a metre and a half away. The network and internet connections are very easy to setup.
Still a bit uncomfortable about Linux, probably because I don't have any previous experience with using the terminal. However I am warming to using it. The Synaptic package manager works very well and provides additional applications within a few click's reach. I'm going to give Linux a chance as it is very responsive and will continue to be developed.
One piece of advice - don't try to install Kicker without first reading up on it on the various forums. I tried to install Kicker and the extended Ksmserver desktop and my File Manager and Network icons disappeared rendering my machine worthless. However I rebooted and pressed F9 a few times to bring up the 900's built-in recovery system. Everything was restored back to normal, although had to re-install Wine, so that was resolved quite painlessly. Linux beginners must read up about any desktop replacements before installing them, find out from other users' experiences.
Overall, very happy. No reservations about the hardware, webcam works fine, battery lasts a long time, screen and smartpad are good. Just have to adjust to Linux, but have come a fair way in just 2 days, so looks promising.
Update for this review:
My purpose for this machine is Bible study and was a bit worried when the E-Sword modules didn't install, however one can install GnomeSword from the Synaptic Package Manager and one can update it with Bible, Commentary, and Dictionary modules from within the program. I installed the IceWM start menu (web address is wiki dot eeeuser dot com slash howto:useicewm) which looks like the XP start menu and my friend edited the Menu using VI (can use nano or the text pad) to create a program group and a link, making running GnomeSword very easy. The application is saved on the system as gnomesword2. Gnomesword meets all my study needs, so no need for E-Sword. I also installed Bible Reference Exporter (available at theChristadelphians dot org) and run that using Wine. The Linux Eee 900 now meets all my requirements so no need to downgrade it to XP.
- All those who say you cannot use XP are silly. I have XP pro loaded on the 20GB version (used an external CD drive to load it) used the provided instructions worked great. I loaded ALL OF MY OTHER programs on to the larger C drive (16GB) such as open office (great and free by the way!), firefox, thunderbird, skype (and the built in mic and speakers and camera work great for this!) etc etc. It all works fabulously. I will admit the processing gets slow when not plugged in and I have not figured out how to change this. The battery life is ok (2.5-3 hours), but you can but high capacity batteries for a bit more (they are just ugly and weight more than the AC adapter). I also upgraded to 2GB of ram (for @$40) and that was as easy as can be.
This is a great travel computer. No it is not a powerhouse, no it is not as slick as a Sony (but is is more than $2,000 less than one) and yes it functions MUCH MUCH better than a cheap, but heavy laptop trying to run any version of Vista (which basically just sucks).
Now of course I am waiting to see if and when the 901 and the 1000H come out....since this was so inexpensive I can afford another one!
- This is my third eee pc [ my other two went to my twins each who are happy with them ]
Only one of the three PC's came with a mouse. Two did not.
The hard disk of 20G is split into 4/16G but so far it is not a problem.
The recovery feature is excellent after I thoroughly messed with the os trying to install gcc. ;-)
Some things that could stand improvement include a better mouse pad, a touch screen and easier instructions on how to install another linux distribution. Creative Zen support would be nice too.
All in all it's great for the price. I really like the light weight and the ease during traveling. Don't use it for serious development though.
- The asus eee is light has enough power for the OS that comes with it. It lacks the required flexibility for hardcore users. There are several online resources to successfully install windows xp or ubuntu.
The hardware is really good in the sense that you get a lot considering the price.
The keyboard is for small sized hands. ofcourse after using it for quite some time, i eventually got used to the size of the keyboard.

5 comments about Apple MacBook MB403LL/A 13.3" Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive) White.
*you will not want to get off your macbook
conclusion:
buy it, its totally worth it.
amin---out.
