5 comments about Razer Diamondback Frost Blue.
- If you are looking to take your gaming to the next level, this is the mouse for you. Precision, Precision, Precision. Prior to getting this mouse, I was getting creamed in COD4, but after my kill/death ration went way up. It may take a little getting used to, because it is only a slight movement and you're across the screen.
I only have 2 cons about this mouse. First,(and this goes for all gaming mice)they need to make a wireless model. Second, occasionally when trying to press one of the thumb buttons, I end up pressing both at the same time and it has had some interesting effects, i am not sure why. Say i have a grenade programmed for that button, and a knife programmed for the second thumb button and i press them both by accident it may end up as a Knife, Grenade, or a jump??? But that only happens very rarely.
All in all, a great buy!
- It's a good mouse with very tweakable features in Vista.
As noted elsewhere, the side lights aren't as bright as the 1st gen, but that scroll wheel led will keep you up at night.
The only problem with my first gen diamondback is the teflon wore down on the bottom. The 3rd gen has better software from Razer.
- After only a number of hours I can't imagine using any other normal mouse. While shopping for a 'gaming mouse' I was disheartened by the extremely overt negative reviews for every gaming mouse I could consider that was under $50.
Like most things involving those who are young and with little else to live for, these types of devices seem to install 'loyalty issues' between one brand or another. All of the negative things listed about this mouse I find to be wonderful features.
The material of the mouse is a wonderful soft rubber. The scroll wheel is large and has very pleasing control.
As to the side buttons which everyone seems to hate. They are designed so that the thumb can press either of them easily at will without actually moving positions. To press one you use the joint part of your thumb, and the other you use the flat part. The buttons on the other side, where you of course don't have a thumb, are exactly the same way. Because this is an ambi-dexterous mouse, if you are left handed you still get the wonderfully designed thumb button. As far as being able to easily press the two buttons on the side of the mouse where you don't have a thumb, this unreasonable, but extremely understandable. They are still easy to find because they have tiny plastic bubbles to identify them, but when using your pinky and ring finger you may have to take a split second to identify them from each other. You're only going to need two extra buttons for extreme combat 'oh my god' reaction situations, so the two buttons on the non-thumb side can be for other things which require less instant action, or simply not used at all.
The sensitivity changer-upper is controlled with one of the extra side buttons (you get to pick which one in the options, and that button can still have another function in addition to triggering the scroll wheel sensitivity change) + the scroll wheel. Whether you prefer this or a physical button on the mouse itself is simply personal preference. I love it being the scroll wheel, its simply easier for me to think about in my brain than having to find even MORE buttons on the mouse. Also the on-screen visualization is excellent, its visible but non-intrusive, and has shown up on top of every game I've tried it on.
The main two buttons are very long, which again I have grown to like and not despise. I can have my fingers arched up and pressing directly down or I can relax them flat, either way is comfortable and I like the option. My hand goes to its normal combat position in games but when I'm simply reading long bits of internet my hand can simply rest comfortably.
The software is excellent and there's no reason you wouldn't use it, but the mouse still 'works' when you first plug it in to Windows XP, so you don't have to worry about not having a functioning mouse if you need to reformat or some such.
I couldn't recommend this mouse more. I paid less for it than it costs here on Amazon, but now that I've tried it, if a meteor smashed my room (and Diamondback) to bits I'd pay even more than $40 for a replacement.
- I don't have the time to give a thorough review but suffice to say this mouse is excellent in every respect and very durable.
- This is the nicest mouse I've owned. It's great for gaming.
It's not gigantic so it fits my hand well. It's nice and light. The mouse is very responsive and you can adjust the sensitivity level. It's sensitive enough to register even very slight movements. It also has a lot of programmable buttons. The cord doesn't tend to tangle, and I prefer a corded mouse because they can't run out of batteries. The mouse is also very cool looking if you care about that.
I only have one complaint about this mouse. It has small slick tabs on the bottom of it to allow it to slide across tables easily. These tabs are held in place by some type of glue. For whatever reason the black glue melted and oozed out of the sides of these tabs, leaving little dots of black glue on my desk. I didn't notice until I saw the black dots on my desk and it took me a while to figure out that they were coming from the mouse. I was surprised to see this happening considering how nice this mouse is.

5 comments about TRENDnet54Mbps Wireless G USB Adapter.
- I rarely do reviews, but considering the difficulties I have had and the headaches that may occur for someone in a similar situation to mine I decided to add my own two cents.
For starters, I'd like to throw out a general complaint to all the main wireless USB network adapters, i.e. Linksys, D-link, Belkin, Trendnet, Netgear, etc. None of them seem willing to specify system requirements other than operating system. For those of us trying to get older systems to work, this is a huge hassle. While some adapters may work for older systems, the version number of those adapters (rather absent in most if not all documentation) might not. So if it says it supports older operating sytems, make sure it supports the amount of ram (if you have low ram).
My problem is that I needed version 2.0 of this adapter, which is shown on the page, yet whenever I ordered I received version 3.1R. My old laptop only has 128 MB of ram and any version higher than 2.0 apparently only supports 256mb RAM or more. Amazon needs to change the picture or be more specific on which version you will receive.
I am sure that Trendnet, or any other mainstream adapter will work for the system that it supports. So, again, this review is more a criticism of how the product is advertised than how it functions.
- So far, works pretty well. The utility that comes with it sometimes acts flaky, and doesn't start or doesn't connect right away.
For this type of solid-state device, it gets incredibly hot! Almost too hot to touch! Given that, probably not going to last long.
The range is ok, nothing special. Of course, the greatest thing about these is the price.
- I needed to get a new adapter for my PC after my old one died on me after 2 years. I installed the software and followed the SIMPLE directions and was up and running in 10 minutes!
My signal strength is strong and I'm very satisfied with the product so far. I can't comment on the longevity of the adapter as I just set it up yesterday but based on initial setup and price this little adapter easily gets 5 stars.
Oh, by the way, my wireless router is about 15 feet away through one wall and I run Windows XP if you're curious. This thing cost only $12 after a $10 mail in rebate at the time I purchased it(8/08). Hope this helps!
- This thing doesn't even work. If I have my computer right next to the wireless router then it works. Good luck finding drivers for it too.
- It works very well most of the time, but every now and then it will start to get low signals of 1mb for no reason. I found that if you unplug it and plug it back in it will work fine for another couple days or so.
I would recommend this Wireless card if you can handle those annoyances. Otherwise spend a little more and get a much better product.

5 comments about IOGEAR MiniView USB KVM Switch with Audio and Cables (GCS634U).
- I've owned three KVMs over the years - an ancient metallic desktop-sitting 4-port, a space-saving Linksys 2-port Y-cable, and a manually-switched 2-port box way back in the day (with an actual knob!). This KVM is vastly superior to all of them.
Pros:
* All attached devices work flawlessly
* Special keys on keyboard function (e.g., Windows Media Player controls)
* No problems switching between Ubuntu Linux, Windows XP, Windows Vista
* No sign of flicker or VGA degradation, on a Sony LCD monitor 1280x1024 @ 60Hz
* Can switch sound independently of (or at the same time as) keyboard, video, mouse.
* No interference on sound channel from the device itself (yayyy!)
* No software AT ALL
* Hotkeys reconfigurable through clever "first press ScrollLock ScrollLock, then press new key" idea
* Entirely powered by the USB port
* Wake-on-keyboard functions work, because the device is powered by the USB connection itself. This is also a con (see below)...
* Looks great - simple mac-ish look with two simple LEDs and smooth white surface.
* Can plug headphones right into the switch!
* Shipped cables are nicely bundled (one cord for all three connectors, split at the end) and of sufficient length.
* Shipped cables appear to be of high quality.
Cons:
* No actual button that can be pressed to switch devices meaning...
* Wake-on-keyboard functions work (a little too well!): if computer #1 is off, but has wake-on-keyboard, you'll wake it up by hitting ScrollLock-ScrollLock just trying to switch to computer #2.
* No DVI input/output, so you'll need a DVI-to-VGA adapter if you plan to use with a monitor OR video card that is DVI-only (fortunately these are cheap)
In summary, at $80.00 this is a mid-to-high range KVM that is well worth its cost. Many KVMs have shoddy connectors or interference problems, or do not maintain their electrical connections well - especially when they have no external power. This switch does all of these things and does them well, while looking good. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I have enjoyed this switch. If they would just add a button to the device itself to switch inputs and produce a DVI version (as an alternative to VGA), this would be the perfect product.
Bottom line: Well worth the $80.00, so long as you don't *need* DVI.
- This KVM switches your USB keyboard, USB mouse and audio with just three keystrokes. Plus it is agnostic to any operating system. A simple tech tool that works.
- Purchased the GCS634U to switch between my Powermac G4 and my Dell PC, using the Apple keyboard and a Kennsington USB optical mouse. Pretty basic stuff. Started it up with the mouse plugged into the Apple keyboard USB port (on the back of the apple keyboards), and the keyboard was recognized, but the mouse wasn't. Plugged the mouse directly into the front of the GCS634U, and everything worked perfectly. Problem is, I don't want 2 cables coming from my desk. I want one.
Called the support line for IOGear, and after being put on hold for a good 20 minutes, was told that I have to plug the mouse into the mouse USB port on the GCS634U, and that I can not use the Apple USB hub. IOGear has some really crappy service. Don't expect much from them. Funny thing was after he told me it wouldn't work, he tried to sell me on some promotion that they had going. I laughed as I hung up on him, right after asking him if he was out of his mind.
Anyway, this one is on the way back. Will be trying the Belkin I suppose.
I give it 2 stars because it will work, as long as you are ok with separate cables for the mouse and the keyboard.
- I'd had this unit about week when it seemed to stop working. Iogear has their customer service number displayed prominently on their website. I called them up and was immediately put through to Tech Support.
From there someone spent about ten minutes with me, trying out some different things. He helped me get the unit working again even though I mistakenly assumed it was a hardware problem.
I highly recommended if just for their customer service.
Aside from the above issue, this unit has functioned perfectly. The toggle keys are great. The only thing that might have been nice is an actual physical switch on the unit. But it works fine as is.
Eric Monse
- This thing worked out of the box. I've connected it to a wireless mouse and a wired keyboard to control 2 desktops and a laptop (XP, win2k3, win2k8). You can control switching of the audio by itself which is nice if you want to listen to audio being played on one computer, while working on another computer. I recommend this to anyone.

5 comments about Western Digital My Book Mirror Edition 1TB USB 2.0 (WDH2U10000N).
- Bought this external drive to backup pictures and videos from my current laptop. Order arrived quickly.
Pros:
*Raid 1 (Mirror)--feel secure since data is stored on two identical drives, if one crashes, data is still available on second drive.
*Quiet
*Easy to use
*Reasonably priced
*USB 2.0
Cons:
*No Firewire or ethernet support (not important to me, but some might care)
Overall, after much research, I decided to buy this drive because I could care less about firewire or ethernet support and the price was right.
- I'm using a laptop without eSata, so I guess this one fulfills my requirements. I have time to wait data transfer (doesn't matter if it's a few hours) so it's fine for me. Pretty quiet, quieter than my laptop fans blowing. However, it does make clacking sounds. I assembled my own external hard drive last year using Antec MX 1 and a WD5000AAKS, and the hard disk ran very queitly. The casing is plastic, looks good, if you press the top plastic grill it makes squeaking sounds. If you set it up with Raid 1, starts with 465.76 GB, migrating it to Raid 0 is just a few clicks away using the provided software on the CD, giving you 931.52 GB of writable space.
- Performs as intended. WD backup software is very convenient and easy to set up.
- The software installation took nearly 20 minutes. That was the first Bad Omen. Then, with the DC power plug in the unit, the drive's "ON" blue light was intermittant. It seems that Quality Control is not high on Western Digital's priority list. The DC power connection for the unit was defective -- the plug and socket were a very loose fit -- and so power to the unit was intermittant at best. Then, the newly installed software would not recognize the drive. Lastly, calling Western Digital customer support got me a "Your estimated waiting time is 15 minutes." The problem is that in fifteen minutes, the same recording came on and said the very same thing all over again.
Thanks to Amazon.com's refund policy I am only out the ten days waiting for the drive to arrive, my three hours of fiddling, and the hassle of sending it back to Amazon.com.
- I have had this drive for about a month now and I am loving it. All you have to do is hook it up, pop in the included software, and you are ready to roll. It does not make much noise and has more space than I will ever use. Overall, this is a simple and cost-effective solution for my storage needs.

- The drive works perfectly, reading and writing all the advertised media at fast speeds. Fancy insertion of the cd/dvd (somehow accelerated). Silent while operating. The led is one color, meaning that won't light up differently when reading and writing, but who cares? :)

5 comments about ACCO POINTERPCKTEXT24.5"CE ( 18001 ).
- I have been looking for a Pocket Pointer ever since one of my students bent the other one. No stores had them. Not even office supplies. Thank you so much for your prompt and speedy delivery.
Shannon
- I needed just the right pointer for a recent drama that I was in. This worked perfectly. It fit in my pocket and extended effortlessly each time. The vendor was very helpful in getting the product to me during the time crunch that I was in. I am completely satisfied!
- I recently ordered 2-ACCO POINTERPCKTEXT24.5"CE (18001). Upon arrival I changed my mind. There was nothing wrong w/the product.
Customer Service contacted me re: return of product. The return went through and my account was credited quickly.
Should I have need of any other products, I would not hesitate to order from them.
- This product is much safer to use than a laser pointer. I teach at a middle school and I would not want to give the kids the idea that they should have a laser pointer.
That said, I still want to have something that helps me to make presentations. It also helps me to keep my hands occupied when I talk to the class. I learned this method at a teaching workshop.
Best of all, it's an inexpensive pointer that takes up much less space than the old wooden pointers.
- I used these before the laser pointers came out. I switched back to these because I grew weary of buying batteries all the time. If you need to point to something from far away, of course, get the laser. If you are presenting proximal to your screen or board, these are just great. Sometimes the old technology is better.

5 comments about Netgear GS116 ProSafe 16-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch.
- Netgear is supposed to have a 5 year warranty (2 on the power supply). I had one of these for about 18 months. Over the last months it's been increasingly flaky, every week or two it just hangs and needs to be unplugged and started again. It doesn't matter how much it's in use (it's done it when we've been on vacation with minimal network traffic).
I called Netgear to get it replaced, but they told me that it's not meant to be plugged in all day, so they won't fix it. Unless you actually unplug all your network equipement when you are not actively using it (I didn't think so), then I highly recommend avoiding Netgear products.
- Got it managing 10 nodes of intense traffic (mostly to an Access database) and its been doing great. Network speed increased up to 5 times using Intel and Netgear's network adapters. No problem uplinking or with mixed 100 and 1000 mbps computers working at the same time.
- Simple plug-n-play connection, comes with studs for wall mounting. Very nice led indicators that show you when you are connected with 10/100 or 1000 mbs. These indicators let me know that I had some older CATV cables in the system. When I changed the cables to CATVe on devices that allowed 1000 mbs, the led's changed. In our small architectural office we view large image files off the server -- this switch speeds up our work significantly.
- Right from the start, it could not be easier! If you are looking for an economical 16-Port GB switch the GS116 is an excellent choice. Simply plug it in and it works! I have installed the switch down stream from my 4-port cable router. The auto-sensing port configuration works as advertised. No problems intermixing 10,100,1000 devices. Further, the automatic uplink to the router was completely seamless without the need for a turn-over cable.
Again, if you are looking for a dumb 16-port GB switch, I highly recommend this one.
- Im with Bjorn, after 2 weeks of use i noticed that i had to unplug the thing after 72hrs of use. Now after 7 months i have 8 dead ports. I have always trusted Netgear, but the last 3 items i have bought from them have failed in less than a year. I don't mind tossing paper cups, i don't expect them to last very long, but swithches and routers, i expect to at least get 3 years out of them.

5 comments about BlueProton USB 2.0 MicroSD / TransFlash Card Reader Writer.
- I have 1.39 GB of a 2 GB card in use and have no problems with this device (contrary to the problems the prior reviewer noted).
I transfer data to an micro SD card used in an LG VX9900 'env' phone with no problems. Easy way to move .jpg and .3g2 files back & forth from phone & laptop.
Device is very small & easy to lose, so I attached a laniard.
- I love this little thing. When outside the case, it's unbelievably tiny. Been using this (plus a 2GB microSD card) for 8 months in my Vista laptop as my dedicated "ReadyBoost" USB flash drive, and it works beautifully.
I picked it because it looked so tiny, and I wanted the least obtrusive thing I could find since it would be sitting in one of my USB ports all the time. It certainly has not disappointed: it's roughly the width and thickness of the _metal part_ of a standard USB A-type connector, and roughly a little less than twice as long as same. So when it's plugged in, the exposed piece portion is very small. Even though my laptop only has USB ports on the side (none on the back), I don't even notice it's there - although that's partially due to the fact that that USB port is jammed right up next to the power cable.
It fills its intended purpose beautifully, and it's very useful otherwise. Having a tiny, high-capacity thumb drive always at hand (no need to search through drawers or bags) is very convenient; I've used it to quickly transfers large files to other XP and Vista computers with nary a hitch. Plus, my phone uses MicroSD to store music, so I can quickly swap files to-and-from the phone without having to locate the USB cable.
And the price is amazing.
(Oh, and just so I don't mislead, you obviously need a separate microSD card to make this thing useful. But those are extremely cheap right now, and you can get a bundle that includes this USB adapter and a microSD card for a really good price).
- Works great, no problems. Very tiny and cool looking, its amazing how the little micro SD card can hold 8GB and this reader makes the whole thing super cool with its micro size. I recomend it! Looks cool and works great, oh and it's cheap!
- I bought a 4GB MicroSD card for my BlackJack 2 cell phone - I didn't know that Vista cannot read a 4GB card without installing a 3rd party patch..I ordered this and it works perfect, now I can have any files that I want on my phone. A must have!!
- I bought this item and used it approximately two times a week.
I loved it at first for how small and easily transportable it was.
However, it turned out to be too flimsy.
I used it to switch the MicroSD card back and forth between my cell phone and laptop.
After about two months, the small plastic part that keeps the card in place broke off. I continued to use it by holding the broken portion in place while inserting the card into the USB drive of my laptop but ultimately, the broken part was lost and the entire thing is now useless.
