5 comments about Universal HDD Adapter USB To 2.5IN & 3.5IN Sata & Pata Hdd.
  1. Just plug it in and install the software; away you go!

I've already used this device to easily and successfully clone and resize several sata and ide/pata disks.

  2. This little device is elegantly general in its possibilities. Indeed, it has more possibilities than those described in its manual.

The "EZ Gig II Backup & Disaster Recovery Software" that comes bundled with it is very powerful, and I say more about that in the next paragraph. Even without using that program, the hardware itself enables one to peer from any USB-equipped computer into the directories and files of a disk drive that is mounted on the adapter. Just as one can browse through file-containing directories (folders) on a USB flash drive, one can do the same with the contents of an intact disk drive attached to this adapter. When my daughter's laptop quit working for reasons unrelated to its disk drive, I removed the laptop's disk drive (a simple process requiring only a Size #0 Phillips screwdriver), connected the disk drive to the Apricorn DriveWire, plugged the DriveWire's USB cable into my desktop computer, and easily retrieved the document files that she needed.

Now to the "EZ Gig II Backup & Disaster Recovery Software." The happy ending to this story is that a potentially disastrous loss turned into no loss whatsoever and a painless disk-drive upgrade from 100GB to 160GB. Here's the problem I faced. Knowing that the shop which was going to perform an extended-warranty repair was likely to wipe the laptop's hard drive of its contents and reinstall Windows, I wanted to preserve all of the installed software and Windows customization to which my daughter was accustomed. To accomplish this, I needed to clone the laptop's disk drive and keep the clone when sending the laptop in for repair. If the laptop had still been working, this would have been easy to do with the EZ Gig II software: install the software on the laptop, attach a new drive to the Apricorn DriveWire, plug the DriveWire's USB cable into the laptop, and run the program. Unfortunately, I couldn't do that because the laptop was dead. Here's how I solved the problem. I bought two Apricorn DriveWires--one for me and one for my daughter. I installed my copy of the EZ Gig II software on my desktop computer. I mounted the laptop's original, 100GB disk drive on one DriveWire adapter, and I mounted a new, 160GB disk drive on the other DriveWire adapter. Plugging both USB cables into the desktop computer and running EZ Gig II, I was able to clone the contents of the 100GB original onto the 160GB replacement.

When the repair shop fixed the laptop, it did as I had feared: It wiped the laptop's hard drive of its contents and reinstalled Windows. No problem. My daughter replaced the Windows-only 100GB disk drive with the 160GB clone, and she was completely back in business. The only change was a 60GB increase in storage capacity!

  3. I really wanted this Apricorn Adapter to work, what could be nicer than having SATA and PATA choices at any given time. But as soon as I hooked my SATA drive to my USB on the back of the computer and I tried to do a Back-Up the drive started disconnecting in the middle of the Back-Up. The thing is, I wasn't watching this process all the time so I fear some of the data may have been corrupted. To make matters worse, I can not play Movies from the same external drive, the disk gets ejected constantly in the middle of playback, basically, the Apricorn adapter is useless. It is too late for me to get my money back but maybe I can save someone else from making the same mistake I did.

(Before someone from Apricorn comes here to blame me for not knowing how to use the device properly, I want everyone to know I am computer savvy and I followed their instruction faithfully. Even if some people have had no problems it does not mean their device works all the time. If you do a search on the Internet for this device you will find others with similar stories. I think it is possible they manufactured a bunch of defective units and dumped them in the market rather than recall them. They should have an official recall advertised on their website.)

  4. Pros:
    -Worked for my SATA HDD.
-The bundled software looks promising...offers a seemingly simple HDD imaging program and HDD utility.
-Company (and product?) from USA (if you care about that sort of thing).

    Cons:
-Did not work for my IDEs. Tried two different IDE HDDs on three different PCs. No Luck.
-Tech Support only open 8-5 M-F which is inconvenient for me.

    Summary:
This product did not work for me. Would recommend you buy it if you live close to a store that carries it and will allow you to return if it doesn't work.

  5. This product read a 3.5" HD that I'd had in an enclosure. But when I connected a smaller laptop HD, it was possible to get the pins on only one side and it fried my drive. There are cautions about ensuring that you connect the power correctly, which I did. Looking from above, it looked as if the connector was on correctly. It was in fact only on one set of pins, which meant the wrong holes on the wrong connectors. The HD is now dead. No need to say that that is extremely upsetting. I give it a two only because it can/ does read the 3.5 correctly.

  1. You cannot get more convenient than this. No larger than your thumbnail, whether you use this SD card for your PDA, your camera, or just to carry your files around, this little gem is amazing. It will fit in a credit card slot in your wallet, or in your badge holder.

The first time you use the built-in USB port, it feels like you are breaking the card - but it becomes natural very quickly.

The only drawback is that it's so small you won't notice it on the computer. So don't forget to take it home!

  2. This is now the third San Disk USB/SD hybrid drive I've bought and they are truely a convenient and awesome alternative to carrying around a USB stick. Especially when combined with a camera or MP3 player which uses SD.

I've got a credit card sized wallet case for SD cards, and with two of these I've always got 16GB of data with me at all times.

The only disappointment is the speed. While this drive reads very very quickly, it seems to write more slowly - just my opinion.

I bought this stick to store a Virtual Machine (VMware) of XP (5GB) so I could carry my email and office programs around with me. Starting the machine (which only reads from the drive) is almost instant, but stopping the machine (which saves 1 - 2 GB of changes) can take 10 mins, or stall.

All in all, I love this product, but it didn't fill my particular need.

  3. I bought the 8GB Sandisk card for my camera and it just works perfect. One advantage of this product is that you can directly plug into your PC USB port and transfer all your photos and video to your PC very quickly. You don't need to conenct via the USB cable adapter. This will save you lots of tine as weel camera battery. Bonus- You can even use it to save files from your PC and carry in your wallet.

  4. A little expensive but very practical and fast. You plug it directly to your USB port without the need for adapters.
You can use it not only for pictures but for data files also. Just take it out of your camera and plug it in the laptop.

  5. Great product, Can use in card reader or USB and keep it stored in my Treo

  1. This is an excellent product for the Macintosh: absolutely perfect plug-and-play! You take it out of the box, connect it via ethernet, and you're good to go. Unless you're an absolute newk, there's no need to RTFM, even though, for the Mac user, the manual consists entirely of a couple of pictures. Also, for the Mac user, it's a reasonably good example of industrial design. It's great for use with the Apple AirPort SOHO / home-networking system. Moreover, for the Windows (attempting to be) user, the packaging shows the Windows ensign over the words, "Designed for Microsoft Windows ..." and contains the necessary cabling, plus a CD with a manual to supplement the picture-manual and a selection of drivers, of which more are available from the Linksys site. Linksys also sells the necessary internal piping, if it's not already built into your PC. For the price, this modem is an absolute steal.

  2. Linksys products is one of the networking products that I can rely on! This modem replaces my 6 year-old modem to speed up our home internet connection. We no longer experience download and upload congestions. It is a true "plug & play" equipment!

  3. This cable modem has been fantastic ... now and then (not often), the connections with my cable provider get outta whack, and all I do is pull the power out, wait 1 minute, plug it back in ... all is well when I reboot my PC, and off I go. Even corporate networks have issues with their ISP connections now and then, you're not buying a toaster you know. This cable modem is very solid ... I know, I've tried DSL a couple times, and you couldn't pay me too ... well, you know. This product works, and stacks with a linksys wireless router, and/or 16 port linksys router as well ... all brought to you by CISCO ... a (gasp) router company!

  4. Linksys BEFCMU10 Ethernet Cable Modem

This was very easy to install. It will keep up with new cable speeds for the internet.

  5. Excellent Product. The Ambit Modems supplied by Charter frequently dropped out and had to be replaced. I have had absolutely no problems with this Linksys BEFCMU10 modem

5 comments about Ideazon Zboard Gaming Keyboard.
  1. works as advertised and is solid product...you may need to download the drivers from website if you are using Windows Vista but it works great and extra boards hook up easy

  2. I was skeptical, at first about this product. I purchased it as a bundle with the Age of Conan keyset (which included a $20 rebate so I got that keyset for free). I did this as a pre-order and the z-board came about a week before the AOC keyset. I had been playing Call of Duty 4 so this was the first game I tried with the z-board and the "gaming" keyset. Whoa, very awesome. It was a new dimention in my gaming experience. Not only was the keyboard easy to install but it had so many features that I was overwealmed. The keyset itself could be programmed easily for COD4 with a simple mouseclick. All the special keys were mapped and in very finger friendly places. The keyset itself was ergonomically designed for ease with larger movement keys and rounded keys for ease of use. You can even program your own hotkeys and multiple key commands! This product is awesome! The regular keyset is smooth and very responsive. I'm typing this review on it now. There are specialty keys at the top as clear buttons that give you easy one touch access for getting to the z-board website, opening up a web window, the calculator, lists, mail, and all sorts of others. As an added bonus the base itself has 2 USB ports in it so you can quickly add a mouse, flash drive or other USB item. The z-board is very sturdy and well made. Lots of thought has gone into this product and there are many keysets add ons out there to purchase. The very nice thing is that each keyset has it's own memory to remember your programmed keys and pre-programmed keys. Just drop in your keyset and go. I love this product and give it the highest rating. Easy to use, updates on the web, easy to install, smooth key operation, and soooo many special features they are too numerous to name. Check out the z-board website for product info. Just remember that there are two versions a standard keyboard plug (you know, the round one) and a USB one. GET THE USB one. I have heard horror stories about the regular keyboard one. I have had zero problems with installation, use, or with any of the keysets. If you want THE BEST (in my opinion) gaming keyboard and most adaptable keyboard (I say this generally because they have a Photoshop and other "work-type" keysets available too!) this is the one for you.

  3. I bought this as a birthday present for my husband. It caused him more of a headache than anything. After taking the time to get it installed (had problems with installation) he finally got it going, and it seemed great. Then after about 4 or 5 hours of use it completely quit working.

  4. Except for a key sticking every now and then this has been a great product. I really don't have any experience with another gaming keyboard. However when I decided I needed one I did a lot of looking. This keyboard serves as a great gaming keyboard but as a pretty good multi-media keyboard. I am not a typist...but then again I wasn't looking for a keyboard for office use. Another big plus...the game specific keyboards that can be purchaced. I wish they had more of them...like Crysis and CoD 4. I highly recommend this keyboard for you casual gamers out there.

  5. I have had no issues with this board so far, I have been playing with it for about a month now. It seems fine. I wasnt sure at first due to some of the other reviews. But I am happy with it. The one thing I can say about it is, it doesnt make the gaming any easier. I guess I was going for something that made WoW a little more fun and less hassel when typing in the trade channels.

  1. This SLI-ready memory does everything Corsair promises...(motherboard willing) If your motherboard doesn't automatically adjust the voltage for your memory you will have to manualy set it for 2.2V as most boards default at 1.8V. My system was able to run the memory at 2.1V at 1066.7Mhz and 5-5-5-15 timing. Very stable! For OverClocking, turning the memory clock to 800Mhz and changing the timeing to 4-4-4-10 produced better results in PCMARK and 3dMARK still Very Stable! Stays cool nomatter what using the DOMINATOR fans, although if you can open the picklejar or open stuck caps easily you may want to get someone else to install the fan bracket as the screws will strip easily!!!

  2. Decent quality control.the RAM was easy to install , excellent ram for the price and performance is Wonderful . Dominator Airflow Fan keep this ram cool

These modules are the best of Corsair Dominator .

5 comments about Hanns.G HG281DPB 28" Widescreen LCD Monitor.
  1. Excellent image once you adjust the settings.. as shipped, it's far too bright.

Amazon version differs from the best buy version in that it does not have an adjustable height, and also the best buy version has a newer bios and chipset (according to the tech at Hanns-G).

If you are coming from a crt, be prepared for adjusting to a lcd.. images are much sharper, and the entire screen is MUCH mor evibrant.. and it seems far too vibrant. There is also a color difference between lcds and crts, but both those issues will occur when going from any crt to any lcd.

All cables included (great!), and both resolution and gaming response time outstanding.

Setting viewing angle also takes adjustment.. on some web pages I couldn;t even see the logo at the top AT ALL because I had the height and angle adjusted poorly. (Again, having the height adjustment on the amazon version would have been nice.)

There IS a $90 price difference though between amazon and best buy, so you have to decide which is better, the upgraded software and stand, or the price.

(I see no visible difference between the amazon version and the best buy version, however.. I had both here at the same time to compare.)

  2. I just received my monitor yesterday. The box is pretty bright and I was not happy that UPS just left it on my front porch. The packaging is very sturdy and the box showed no sign of damage. Connected it to my Dell laptop and I was amazed. I am no novice to large monitors. I have dual Dell 24" at work. Tha Hanns g out of the box is set to 100% for brightness and contrast. I can only assume they do it for testing purposes?

I checked for dead pixels and not a one. the controls are on the back right side and take a little getting used to. Several times I turned the monitor off while adjusting it. I went to a web site http://brighamrad.harvard.edu/research/topics/vispercep/smpte/smpte.jpg

and could not get the black set quite right. Overall I am very happy with the monitor. I am not planning on using the built in speakers so can't comment on them.

One other plus the monitor is made in Taiwan not China like most things nowadays!

  3. Hanns.G HG281DPB 28" Widescreen LCD Monitor
    The Pros:
The best part about the monitor is the sheer massive size of the screen. I often have OpenOffice Write, Mozilla FireFox, a DVD player, and several IM applications displayed side by side with plenty of room left over. The sturdy stand gives the panel a good range of tilt and swivel motions to adjust the viewing angle. I'm using it with an older, unremarkable HP Pentium IV laptop with 256MB of RAM that is also shared for video memory and it works fine.

    The Cons:
I plugged my MuVo MP3 player into the audio jack and found the speakers sound surprisingly tinny and weak, even at the highest volume. They play simple Windows application sounds well enough but any plans to use them as everyday speakers for music and movies will be a disappointment. The other downside is the viewing angle. You have to sit almost directly in front of the monitor because it darkens when viewed from too far aside. The ability to tilt and reposition the panel lets any one person easily compensate for the viewing angle limitations, but it wouldn't work for a roomful of people watching a DVD movie on it.

    The bottom line:
The amount of screen real estate you get for the money is a terrific value that more than makes up for the weak speakers and somewhat limited viewing angle. If you want the very best, shop elsewhere, but if you want the best value for your money, buy this LCD monitor.

  4. [Background]
I have macbook pro using this as an external monitor, running windows xp pro and fedora in vmware fusion. Graphic design 50%, and coding 50%.
I got the latest model, HF289H from BB. I know this review is supposed to be on 281, but amazon does not have it yet and the excellence of 289 force me leave some comments here.

    [What I was looking for]
I came from 22" Apple cinema display, looking for upgrading to Apple Cinema 30" for bigger size or 24" HP w2408(glossy) for more vivid colors. I'm a big fan of glossy monitors, but the reflection and color accuracy could be problems for big monitors.

    [WOW]
This monster delivers the best of both world! The color is so vivid and no worries about reflections because it's matte. This monitor, in fact, put every expensive monitors out there in shame. In reality comparison, it won my vote hands down. I paid $530(vs $1900 of 30" Apple) compromising 2.5". I also had to give up the sleek look of apple cinema display, but it still looks better than most of other PC monitors out there. Watching DVD is pure joy with X-Contrast on, and the color quality is near perfect for graphic work(X-Contrast off, after calibration). Yes, size does matter. After getting used to this monitor, it's almost impossible to go by 24", not to mention 22". It also has plenty of connections, 2 HDMI inputs(289), 1 VGA, 1 component, and more. I'm so impressed.

You may want to calibrate this monitor though. I did it with Mac OS X, and then adjusted brightness(65), contrast(100), R(70), G(70), B(70). It's perfect to my eyes now, but you may want different values. I got the RGB tip from one of the reviewers here(Thanks, Linux). I strongly recommend you to spend some time with calibration. It makes huge difference.

    [Now the cons]
This monitor does not go to sleep, and you have to turn it off instead. It's not a problem for me, but it could be for some people.
Reliability. Don't know much about about Hannspree(former Hanns.G). But the monitor comes with 3 years warranty.

    [Conclusion]
Best value by far. If you still on the fence because other monitors have better specs on paper, do yourself a favor and take a serious look at it at the nearest BB. Do the real world comparison. You won't regret a bit.

  5. I use big monitors for photo processing in a duo display mode. I have an HP 22" that came with my Media Center desktop, a 24" Samsung, and this. The Hanns G is clearly the biggest not by just the number. The picture actually is a lot bigger side by size. The text display is much better than the Samsung. The screen is brighter, and so is the contrast. But the dynamic range of the color is only so so. It's especially bad with shades of dark colors. Most of them are displayed simply as black. I adjust the numbers and display angle to no real effect. Then again, I got this one from Costco for $399. Can't complain much there.

All in all, this is big 27.5" that works. Not the ideal tool for my purpose, but a lot cheaper than getting a real good one. So for me, it's a keeper.

5 comments about HAVA Titanium HD TV Device with Wi-Fi.
  1. This is a great system for those who like to watch TV on the go. I own a Slingbox Pro too so I can say this thing really works well. Set up is a breeze. It has one major plus over the sling box that..u can watch videos simultaneously on two systems..within ur home network...Something u cannot do with a Slingbox...I got irritated with myself for not checking this earlier with Sling...I would have definitely considered this HAVA. It works as a PVR...which is awesome...It works Wirelessly ...another plus over the Slingbox pro...considering the price of the Slingbox pro..I think the Hava is turning out to offer more...Supports external harddrive for direct recording...Thats is really awesome...Now the only drawback with HAVA....Its not compatible with MAC..It works only with PC...which sling box does with both..It claims it transmits in better speeds than the sling box....I am not sure if that makes the print any clearer...which I assume it should...I am also not sure if this would work both with Pal and NTSC formats as I have tested the Sling box Pro for that have not been able to do that for the HAVA.. The Slingbox Pro works with both Ntsc and Pal both...not the Slingbox Solo...Picture quality pretty good especially when u in the home network..I am using the Sling to watch tv remotely...and Its set up in Asia..the picture quality is really not great...I havent tested Remote viewing with Hava from that far...But within the US ..Its doing a great job...

Would I buy this...If I didnt own a Mac I wud jump to this offer..definitely more pluses for me than minus.

Like it...with a few tiny changes..would love it!!!

  2. Wow, setup for this system was a breeze! From opening the box to fully installed software, watching tv on my laptop took less than 30 minutes. Unlike my previous experience with Slingbox, there were absolutely no issues to resolve with network/firewall etc. (I am using this with Vista Home Premium on my laptop.)

So far, video and audio quality are excellent, even over G wireless to my laptop. The player allows for full-screen mode, with no additional frame, controls, etc on the screen, so it looks just like a tv display.

I LOVE the built-in DVR functionality. Basically, wherever you install the player (e.g. laptop, desktop, etc), the player just sets aside space on your computer's hard drive to allow for both pause/resume of live tv as well as saving an entire program. The Slingbox player does not offer either of these functionalities.

One negative for me, is the absense of a remote control template for the Tivo HD. There are some older Tivo remotes (Direct TV, Tivo SD, Tivo Series 3), but none of them work fully with the Tivo HD. Given that Tivo HD is the current standard model of Tivo and has been on the market for over a year, it seems like a major ommission on HAVA's part. This does concern me somewhat, as a poor reflection on how well they will support various remotes in the future as well as their overall support of their software.

Also, the lag time for response from pushing a remote control button is about 5 seconds, so this is a bit frustrating when you are trying to navigate Tivo menus, etc.

With regards to resolution, it is important to understand that while HAVA can HD video input (component, not HDMI), its output is still always standard def. Unlike, Slingbox, however, whose output is fixed at 640x480, the HAVA appears to ouput at 480p, including full 16:9 aspect ratio. If it is important for you to have HD video streamed across your home, you may want to wait and consider the Slingbox Pro-HD, to be released in late-Sept 2008.

  3. I wish I could give the Hava Titanium HD WiFi more than three stars. I really, really do. But, with all the rough edges that I've encountered over the couple of days, I just can't.

First the good news: It works. As a matter of fact, I'm sitting in my office, typing this review, while watching WGN in another window. The video quality is good and the sound is in sync with the video. It's pretty cool. Video input signals can come from composite, component or s-video sources. Note that there are no HDMI connections. Audio can come from standard right-left audio inputs where necessary. Pass-through outputs exist for every input. Your home network can be connected via either wired or wireless connections. I tested both; they both work fine, but settled on the wired connection as the wireless signal is weak in the room where I placed the Hava.

Now...the problems: It's obvious that this is a work-in-progress. The unit I received had software and firmware that was two releases old. The software partially installed, suggested that I download the latest version and then promptly bombed when I tried to install the upgrade. After numerous reboots (and a few words that I don't use around the kids) I finally managed to install the shipped -not the upgraded- version. Unfortunately the shipped version doesn't support a hard drive on the USB port for video storage...you can only use your computer's hard disk. Filling up my laptop's hard drive with reruns of 'My Mother the Car" doesn't seem like a particularly intelligent idea. Since I couldn't get the latest software/firmware version to install, I found an intermediate version which included hard drive support (1.7.3.322-Beta, if you're curious) on the myhava.com web site. It installed and forms the basis of this review. If I ever get 1.7.4.7 to work, I'll file an update.

Over the last year and change, I've owned DirectTV, ATT U-Verse, Comcast and finally TiVo DVRs. (Don't ask...it's a basic character flaw.) This gives me a pretty good basis to evaluate the Hava as a DVR. I'm controlling the Hava using the Have-supplied PC client, not Vista Media Center Edition or something else more sophisticated. It works fine recording and playing back a video stream, but there are several key features that are missing. First of all, there's no program directory to assist you in recording a specific show. You set-up a recording by entering the date, start time, program length and channel number. Obviously, if you're watching TV, you can pull up your provider's program directory, but there's no interaction between that and the Hava. Secondly, once you've programmed it to record something, I haven't found a way to cancel that recording, or even list what's queued up to record. These may be included in a future update...or might not. Meanwhile, they're pretty serious deficiencies.

So...to make a long review short, I'd give the Hava an "A" for its networked video capabilities, but only a "C" for use as a DVR.

  4. I love new tech devices alot but this one is going to be one of my new faves next to my wii of course. I love this it very handy to be able to watch tv on the computer specially being self employed and most of my jobs are net based I can do my work for example here on vine sit here watch my fave show fill out the reviews. another handy portion of this device is being able to record and burn on to dvd. I have digital cable from time warner lots of channels all premiums I am a HBO oz fan from the way back and those are hard to come by even on DVD. So being able to have a device like this makes it easier just record the shows when they're one burn to dvd. being able to pause live tv is neat all though we have a feature like that on our convert boxes anyhow. this is the most handy and coolest device I have ran into in a while . If anyone's looking to get a christmas gift for their gadgetfreak on you xmas list then LOOK NO FURTHER. get them this they'll be your best friend for life. who wouldn't wanna watch tv on a computer. This one of my fave gadgets here so far that I have been sent. Really as I said COOL and fun to use. hook up is easy follow the set hook it up to you cable converter. install software . put the ethernet chord into the back of your router and your all set to rumble. can be a bit frustrating a bit at first the set up but seems to go smoothly once you figure out what your doing .

lots of pros havent ran into any cons yet and will update if i do and doubt i will .really handy for those who like tv series and dont' wanna miss any shows and wanna keep a archive of their favorite programs as well .

  5. What appeared to be simple "plug & play" equipment turned out to be a real challenge!
The quick start guide included (the manual is on the CD) is too brief to be of much use. The self-adhesive sensors that are supposed to control the channels and volume etc, do not stick well and it does not properly do its function either.
There was a decent selection of hook-up cables included. However the manual suggested I use the "supplied" S video cable if other connections were in use but, annoyingly, it was not in the box.

I tried to sync the unit several times with my wireless router, it failed every time and I ended up using the (supplied) Ethernet cable.

When I eventually got it working the picture and sound are actually very good. It can be used on a TV, Satellite box or DVD player etc as claimed but if you have everything already hooked up together in you living room for example, it becomes pretty complicated. Also,it is not easy to use and a complete novice at this will end up spending many frustrating hours trying to set this up.
Do use the manual found on the CD instead of the quick start guide.

The whole design of this thing is poor, not user friendly and it is not as good as described. Unless you are comfortable at hooking up such equipment, I don't recommend it.

  1. Good sound for relatively inexpensive computer speakers. Certainly wouldn't recommend it for "serious" listening ( but that's what my Dahlquist DQ-10's and Bose Acoustimass 15 speakers are for ). The soundbar is really good on the high and mid-range. If you're looking for strong bass, these speakers aren't for you.
I'm using it with an HP W2207 monitor. If you place the soundbar where the instructions suggest ( under the base ), the monitor was unstable. But, if the monitor is at its highest level, you can slip the soundbar under the monitor behind the base. It then looks like it's part of the monitor. The combo on/off/volume/mute control and the headphone and aux jacks are still easy to access in this position. The only thing I don't like about the soundbar is that the power adapter is rather wide. If you plug it into a power strip or ups, it's apt to block off adjoining plugs.
Since it probably is important in evaluating my review, I was totally happy for a number of years with the built-in speakers in a Philips Brilliance 180P2 monitor. I only found it necessary to get external speakers when I got the HP monitor - its built-in speakers are really tinny. I am using the soundbar on a desktop pc. My main source of digital entertainment is a home theater pc.

  2. I bought this sound bar, not because I needed a speaker for my flatscreen monitor (i'm a gamer and can't afford the flatscreen monitor that is superior to my crt's). I got it so I can play my iRiver 8gb iRiver clix2 without headphones! This thing hasn't disappointed me one bit. The sound is deep and resonant. The highs are crisp and clear. The volume gets very loud and its very portable! I can use my clix2 when I'm building a deck or playing frisbee with my dog. I connect it to my laptop, which is where i have all my mp3's and my main computer is free for interstellar piracy while I play Eve online. An inexpensive, terrific sounding solution to all MP3 player owners who need great sound, affordability, and portability.

  3. The form factor of this sound bar is great - fantastic design. It nests perfectly under my Samsung 245BW LCD. The volume/mute knob is large. The lines are sleek.

I use a laptop and docking station, and this sound bar is the perfect solution for great sound.

The reviews that said this sound bar will "fill the whole room" are exaggerated in my opinion. For the price, this is great sound, and plenty loud. But it certainly won't "fill the room". I also use it for movies in the bedroom, and the monitor and sound bar sit 12 feet away and it is loud enough. But don't mistake this soundbar for a high end, high power unit you would use for home theater - it can't produce really clear loud sound like those units.

In short - it is great quality for the price and I am very happy with the purchase.

  4. I am no audiophile. I just needed/wanted decent sound for a new computer I bought that did not come with speakers (I wasn't interested in buying the optional computer speakers because I wanted decent sound since I planned on using my 22" monitor to watch movies across the room). SO, I read A Lot of reviews on Many different speakers and chose the Altec Lansing SoundBar Speakers. They never received Rave reviews nor did many have horrible things to report. That was interesting (often items get "polar reviews"). I braved the $40 bargain and hoped I hadn't wasted what I thought was half of what I should pay for a decent computer speaker. I AM VERY happy with my new speakers let me tell you why:

    PROS:
1- Volume is loud enough to hear movies 10-12' across room
2- Sound is rich enough to listen to music files 10-12' away!
3- Handy volume dial AND mute function at fingertips!
4- Optional headphone jack on side of unit!
5- You probably won't wake the neighbor with this speaker!

    CONS:
1 - A power cord and speaker cable exit the back (it cannot run on batteries). This is not a "portable" speaker if that is what you need.
2- It sits a little too high for my new monitor. I don't know why it was designed to sit 1" off the desk (it would be perfect height for me if it didn't, so I put my computer on a platform and put the mouse there when not in use).
3- A little "bulky" looking - do not buy it for its looks!
4- You probably won't wake the neighbor.

After a week of testing, I can honestly report that this speaker has surprised me! The Altec Lansing SoundBar Speaker has impressed me with it's rich sound, volume capability, convenience features and saved me from paying what I thought I Had to for decent sound!!!

  2. This is one of the best deals iv ever gotten on RAM. I got it for next to nothing used and it still worked like a charm like brand new. Came wrapped up tightly in bubble wrap and quite secure. I plugged it in and it was accepted right away without a problem by my computer. I definitely recommend this product to anyone still looking for older RAM at a great deal. A+ :)
