3 comments about HP Pavilion M9350F Desktop PC (2.50 GHz AMD Phenom X4 9850 Processor, 6 GB RAM, 750 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. I have had this computer for a couple of weeks now and it works great! I use it as a TiVo because it comes with a TV tuner card and the capacity to record live TV (even when you are not at the computer). The remote is great and convenient. I love being able to just hit a button and turn on the radio on my computer.

The computer is a tad bit slower than I expected (however, I am extremely impatient). Also, the back tends to get very hot so I make sure to power down when I am not using the computer. It comes with Windows Vista SP1 which I have not had any problems with so far.

I wish the computer came with some microsoft office software (which is expensive to purchase on top of the computer itself). Overall, I have had no problems with the computer and it was a great buy. I plan on doing a lot of video uploading from my camcorder and so far it has worked great.

  2. I jumped on this awesome gaming unit. Graphics are front row. So much power and like Tim Taylor says "POWER" arg arg arg. It's loaded with so many features how can anyone go wrong with this good buy? It's totally upgradable if you decide to upgrade in 4 years. Easy to use with many helpful hint if needed. Great saving's with this price. HP is a well known name with all the support you need. Do yourself a big favor and if your ready to be blown away get this you won't be sorry.

So much room on the Hard Drive you'll never use it all.

The thing about it also is you can play all the high demanding games out now and for some time to come.

No I don't work for HP but I must give credit where credit is due. I did many hours of research on units and this is a no brainer.

    YOU'LL LOVE IT.

    thank me later

    Gregory C.

  3. I bought this amazing desktop computer the last week; the computer is amazing have a lot of performance. I install Crysis in the m9350f and run in full and I don't have problems with low fps, it run perfect. I recommend this machine for gamer's o graphic or video edit. Take care with the vista 64 bit because some old programs can't run in 64bit platform.

  1. None of the problems described by negative reviews on Amazon occurred for me at all. I purchased this PC a month ago. As I am a gamer I will be installing new Power Supply next month, along with new graphics card, but even as-is the system runs World of Warcraft (an older game) at very acceptable frame rates on medium settings. Make sure to disable all of the HP software bundled with this thing in Selective Startup, (its useless).

This machine is a perfectly fine desktop for basic needs, and is a great platform for future upgrades, provided you upgrade PSU, which many other reviewers also mentioned. The lack of a dedicated graphics card is also a pain, but as there is a wealth of expansion slots, including PCI Express 16, it isn't that big of a deal.

All of these Vista nightmares I expected never panned out. Vista just isn't that bad an OS, despite what I feared.

    Highly recommended.

  2. I purchased an HP Pavilion a year ago. It came with a broken 9 in 1 card. In less than a year the hard drive went out. Wanna know if HP service lives up to the ads? I found out...because of the two breakdowns. They fixed both, but when the machine was returned after repair to the hard drive, the front cover was broken. Two tabs that hold it in place had been broken during service. Not a big problem, but the fight I've had with HP since is the real story. They wanted me to ship the pc back again, rather than just ship me a new cover. They assigned a case manager since we didn't want to ship the PC back. He would call us back within 24-48 hours, during a time convenient to us. 1 1/2 weeks later I called back to see why we hadn't been called and was told I had to call the case manager during his working hours which start at 11pm Eastern Daylight time. I can't figure out why they asked us what hours were convenient for us. This issue still isn't resolved. I hope your experience with their award winning service is better because you may well be depending on it.

  3. Purchased this machine in November '07. I was only hooked up to the onboard video long enough to see if the machine would boot up and when it did I immediately added a mid-grade video card and upgraded to a 430 watt ThermalTake power supply. I also added an additional 2GB system memory, even though the standard 2GB would have probably been quite sufficient. I'm not convinced it is absolutely necessary add memory to run Vista, but you can't have too much of the stuff either. Vista Home Premium is what it is...I guess we'll have to get used to it eventually. I don't have any particular problems with Vista, just some things rearranged and not where I got used to them being. The machine has plenty of horsepower to operate the Aero desktop so at least you get that benefit from the Vista OS. The Vista driver for my ancient HP PSC1210 All-In-One supported just the basic print functions (and not very well at that) and HP said they weren't going to release Vista drivers for that printer, so that gave me the excuse to go buy an Epson. The machine has flawlessly run everything I've asked it to run for these 6 months now, so I guess I have enough hours on it to be able to recommend it to anyone thinking about purchasing a new machine.

  4. I'm going to tell you right now. Most people will buy this computer because they either don't have time to build their own, or simply don't have the time. I will also tell you that it would be a big mistake. I built my own computer for $720 and some change that is much better than this. I'll compare the specs below.

    Hard Drive

While this computer has a 360GB hard drive, mine rocks a 640GB hard drive that's backed with a 5-year warranty. Not to shabby, eh? That's almost a 78% bigger hard drive.

    DVD/CD Drive

I have a 20x DVD/CD Burner with lightscribe/dual-layer capabilities which is the same as the one that comes with this computer, only faster, as this computer's drive is only 16x.

    RAM

Though both my computer and this computer have 2GB's of RAM, there is a difference...the speed. The RAM on this computer runs at 667MHz, while mine runs at 1066MHz. Also, my motherboard has a max amount of 16GBs, while the motherboard that comes with this computer maxes out at 8GBs.

    Motherboard

As mentioned above, my motherboard has a higher amount of possible RAM, but that's not all it has going for it. My motherboard has a FSB of 5200MT/s while this motherboard has only 2000MT/s. Quite a difference if you ask me. There are also a few different things you'd see my motherboard has that this one doesn't, though minimal.

    Graphics

While this computer comes with nothing but onboard graphics mine looks stunning on my 22" widescreen monitor when it's connected to my 8800GT. I can't even begin to tell you the difference between onboard graphics, and an actual graphics card, let alone the 8800GT. You'll NEVER want to go back to onboard graphics once you've seen what "real" graphics cards can actually do.

    Power Supply

This seems to be a big problem among must buyers. With this computer you get a wimpy 250-watt power supply which is good for nothing except what's already on the computer. If you even want to add a few things you'll want to upgrade your power supply first which can cost another $50 (give or take) to what you've already spent. However, my computer has a 700-watt power supply which powers everything in my computer seamlessly, AND leaves room for anything else I might want to add.

    CPU

Though the CPU in this computer is nice (AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz), you might find mine to be the real attention grabber, being an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2GHz.

    Computer Case

I'm not going to lie, I don't have the greatest looking case, but it gets the job done, and with over 1900+ happy owners (including me) who have had no problems, I'm not going to complain.

Now, to end my review, I'm just going to ask everyone, why? Not really, I'm going to rant on some more, but I think people should really take the time to learn how to build their own computer. It's actually a very easy process, and can save you hundreds of dollars. In my case it didn't save me any money, per se, but I did get a much better computer for the same price. If I had chosen to make the exact computer shown here (on Amazon) I could have easily saved anywhere from $200-$400. Either way, I spent almost exactly the same amount to build a computer that is possibly 10x better. All the products I used are below, and if you have the time, I recommend you look into building your own computer.

PLEASE NOTE---I did not include the price of Vista. You should be able to find Vista for anywhere from $120-$200 depending on which version you want, which will obviously put you up a bit, maybe to $850, but you can easily leave out the 8800GT and use the $150 you would've spent on that on a copy of Vista, or whichever OS you want. Even if you choose not to get the 8800GT you'll still have better on board graphics, and all the other components will still be better as well. Hope that informed people!

    -Samsung DVD Burner SH-S203N-------------------$26.99
    -Western Digital Caviar 640GB WD6400AAKS--------$89.99
    -BIOSTAR TFORCE TA780G M2+ (Motherboard)------$79.99
    -COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW (Case)---$49.99
    -EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512-P3-N801-AR-----------$149.99
    -OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V------$114.99
    -G.SKILL RAM (2x 1GB) F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK--------$59.99
    -AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2GHz ADX6400CZBOX----$149.00

Please note, prices vary by store and time of purchase.

  1. You will be getting a good amount for the money you spend for this computer. This is what I would call a perfect system for a non-gamer, who is not into upgrading too much, but wants a solid system that can last for many years.

I bought this computer for my daughter who is now attending college, and needs a decent system for her homework research. It is perfect. It does not have the thrills of a quad processor, but speed for Google searching is not required. It does not have the graphics to play Call of Duty 4. You do not need extreme graphics to do research. It does not have a blue ray drive to burn cd's, nor a second hard drive built in to do system back-ups. There are workarounds for those issues too...

My point is, for the amount you are paying, you will receive a decent system, good value, and you will not be disappointed. I would say this could also be a good office system for a small office or home office. Wireless modem is already installed so it is ready to go as a second computer. Vista premium is easy to use, and was an easy transition from XP.

  2. I just purchased this computer,i like how small and how cool it looks, but was very un happy when this unit says it has s video, but the small paper that was in box, said if it does not have a s video and a componet video located right here, and they showed where it was located, then you are unable to use this as a tv monitor, well thanks hp, you could off told me that on your web site.so i sent mine back,im waiting for a refund.the s video that is on there is located where cable wire plugs in,but thats only for a video camera, per instructions in the owners manual.

  3. The computer is okay (u get what you pay for) but I am on my second wireless keyboard. The first did not work right out of the box and after 30 minutes of being hassled by a barely english speaking agent out of india and 7 days later I received the 2nd wireless keyboard. After 5 days of it working, we starting getting a message saying we were holding down the ctrl key. Needless to say, i went out and bought a non HP wired keyboard, and have had no problems.

  4. I BROUGHT THIS SLIMLINE PC WITH KEYBOARD N MOUSE INCLUDED AND IT'S GREAT, FIRST TIME BUYING A REFURBISHED PC IT WORKS LIKE A DREAM AND FAST, I JUST NEED A NEW MONITOR LIKE A 19" THEN I'LL BE HAPPY , I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE, IT'S QUIET SLIM DOESN'T TAKE UP MUCH SPACE AT ALL... GO GET ONE............. JOI-BERMUDA

  5. I bought this computer in hopes that the OS would work better than my 2002 Media. Alas, it did not. The computer itself works OK aside from it getting hot if left on too long. The OS, however, has too many glitches that the cheap price isn't worth the headache. I would not recommend the Vista version.

5 comments about HP iQ775 19-inch TouchSmart Desktop PC (1.9 GHz AMD Turion TL58 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. Great product. The touch screen is amazing. Being able to click directly on a link--should have been thought of earlier! Within a few hours, I was used to using the touch screen instead of the mouse.
The overall look of the computer is amazing. The amount of space it requires on my desk is great. Previously, I had a 17" flat-screen monitor with my CPU on the floor. This does have a bigger footprint than just a screen; however, not having the bulky CPU on the floor is worth it. Access to connectivity center is handy. Plugging stuff into the back of the machine is a little hard since it is the entire unit you have to get around...but you're only back there once in a while. Not only did this machine get rid of my CPU, it replaced an external DVD burner, an external bluetooth usb hub as well as a card reader and speakers. I ended up with a lot of extra space at my desk.
I have only had this since Christmas with not a lot of time to use it. But so far, it is fast. It wakes up from sleep mode really fast. The keyboard is right next to the machine on my desk and I have no problems with it. I have a Logitech bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse that I was thinking of switching to this one...because of prior bad reviews...but haven't as of yet because what was provided with the machine seems to be doing well.
I love the touch screen interface. You will too.

  2. I recently purchased this computer and I'm very happy with it. It's fun to use and makes computing a whole new experience again. The touchscreen is a great and can even be used online and with gaming. My Pogo experience got a whole lot better! lol

The only thing that I find hard to get used to is the keyboard is a little smaller than I'm used to. Some of the keys are compact and in different places on the board. For example, the right shift key is the same size as a regular letter key and at times I miss it entirely while typing. Once I get used to it, I'm sure it will be fine.

If you want a computer that doesn't take up alot of space and is very fun to use, I couldn't recommend this one higher.

    Enjoy!

  3. This computer is a lot of fun and easy to use, the touch screen adds a new dimension which can make games more interesting and increases ones overall level of interactivity with the machine. The multiple ports make for great versatility and TV, calendar increase placement options; it is great for the kitchen environment. The built in wireless connection is easy to use, the wireless keyboard works well and I haven't had the problems described with the IQ770. The computer was at first a little slow moving - especially when booting up and Vista would hang if I wanted a complete shutdown. So I spent about $125 and upgraded the memory to 4 mb (Kingston) and it now moves MUCH faster (Vista is a memory hog) and, amazingly, Vista now will shut down quickly w/o hassles!! Overall it's quite cool, I'm sure Apple will answer it soon but for windows users it's sort of a breakthrough in imagination and originality.

  4. We first purchased the HP IQ770... That was a great start but while we were at the store I found this model. The next computer that we purchased was the 775. We purchased 3 of them, they are for our business. We love them. They are easy to use. After having the problems with the keyboard on the 770 I invested in a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard but found that I didn't really need it with the 775. I like it better then the condensed keyboard, but it doesn't tuck away like the keyboard that came with the computer.

We also love the option of being able to watch and record tv with our computer.

If you are looking for something new, definitely give this a try. You will soon find that you are trying to touch every screen that you come to :)

  5. Great computer, we have in our kitchen and use it several times a day. Couldn't happier with this new touch screen computer.

  1. This is an awesome gaming machine. I researched different gaming machines, read all the reviews and went ahead and took the plunge. Yes it is expensive, but well worth the price. Very easy to set up, and very quiet. It is a large heavy machine, but how often do you move your computer? I've had it for a month now and no complaints at all.

  1. This PC is excellent for my needs. I'm using it to run a small home business. It's also great for my multimedia projects.

  2. For a computer not being built by yourself this is a great computer. I added a LG Blu-ray/HD Writer for $300 and It is now a real TV computer. HP has built a good one here,Rates a 5.6 on Vista scale. And Vista is doing it's job, When It came out there was some issues, SP1 is out and Vista Ultimate is very Good !! I also love Media Center with the Built in HD Tuner, It records Flawlessly in HD and has a great picture. I highly recomend this computer.

  3. I'm confused as to what the difference is to this HP model, compared to the m9150f. They both have practically identical specifications except for the hard drive space(m9040n=640gb, m9150f=720gb) and the m9150f carries a HD-DVD player, and somehow the m9040n is priced substantially higher. I might have overlooked something when comparing the specs but I can't find the difference. Does anyone know?

  4. I've read all these responses on M9080N and will it do RAID... the simple answer is yes it will. Here's how.

CAUTION: This will destroy all of your data!!

    1. Create system recovery DVDs from Start Menu > Programs > PC Help & Tools > Recovery Disc Creation (you can only do this once per system)
    2. Go into the BIOS, find disk settings. HP ship this machine in IDE config, There are 2 more choices there AHCI and RAID. Choose RAID, save and reboot.
    3. Hit "Ctrl I" upon boot to enter RAID config
    4. Create 1 TB RAID 0 (stripe) or 500 GB RAID 1 (mirror) logical volume.
    5. Insert DVD and boot
    6. Follow prompts to rebuild system
    7. All done

HP seem to not done a perfect job both configuring this system (shipping with BIOS set to IDE) as well as supporting this system (telling customers it does not support RAID). They need to hire a few more rocket scientists and try harder next time.

  5. I purchased my HP m9080n tower from Fry's in November 2007, and have used it for business purposes. Initially, it performed spectacularly. Great speed, handled many programs running simultaneously, little or no noise from the tower. NOTE: That's the ONLY reason I've given this machine 2 stars, rather than 0 or 1 star. When it's functioning correctly, it's very good. But, as you'll see below, I cannot rely on it--so what's the point in having it?

In February 2008, the problems began. The computer had had about 2 months of use by then. I'd do a cold boot (turned it on), and when the welcome screen appeared--if it did--there was no way for me to log in. The icons for each user account appeared but didn't respond, and they didn't open a space for me to enter my password.

I tried many possible solutions before taking it back to Fry's, including reinstalling Vista 4 times, using PC Doctor to analyze any hardware problems (it found none). Had to start it in Safe Mode to do these tests, or used F11 to get into system restore mode. Bottom line is that nothing fixed the problem, despite my reformatting the hard drive, reinstalling Vista, and not installing anything else on the machine. Even with that configuration, it still had nonresponsive icons and no login window on booting up.

Finally took it to Fry's, because it was under warranty. They replaced the motherboard at no charge. When I brought the PC back to my office, it was fine for a couple of weeks, and then I started seeing the same symptoms as before: no window to log in, and nonresponsiveness to system restoration.

Took it back to Fry's, asked them to fix it AGAIN. This time they charged me nearly $200 to reinstall Vista, which I had already done mutliple times. Brought it back to the office, and it functioned well for about 2 weeks.

Yesterday, the SAME PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN: when I turned the machine on, I got no login screen, and the user account icons were nonresponsive. But get this--I was so disgusted that I just let the thing sit overnight, with the nonfunctional login screen still there. When I got into the office the next morning, clicked on the icon for my administrator's account, lo and behold--the login window was normal. I was able to log in as usual, in other words. And I hadn't touched the computer since it booted up with no login window the night before.

If anyone has suggestions as to what I can do about this, I'm all ears. I can't tell you how disgusted I am with HP AND Frys'. The computer is still under warranty, but I've read other reviews here that give me no hope that HP will resolve the situation to my satisfaction. In the meantime, I've sunk $2,000 into an unreliable machine that no one seems to know how to fix. Right now, it's more useful as a freaking doorstop.

In all fairness, we have several other HP desktops and notebook computers in my office. In the 3+ years we've had them (running XP or Vista Ultimate), we have had no problems with them. I don't know if this problem is specific to the m9080n or not.

    Thanks,

    Dr Susan E Caldwell
