- The Linux version is to have a 160G HDD & 2GB of RAM for the same price. IE: You pay a lot more for Windows XP Home. There's no need for Windows on any of the netbooks or this device; even w/ ASUS's very cut-down version of Linux, you can do everything you need to do. Windows Home doesn't permit more than very basic networking. W/ Windows there is noticeable lag in operation - not acceptable on new hardware. Besides, the way Windows slows down w/ age, one can expect it to get slower over time. Of course, you'll need to do a clean install every few months on this thing to keep optimum speed. This is a light-weight limited-resource, resource-efficient platform. Windows isn't meant for this device or the Eeepc....or any netbook. ASUS installs windows because they know ppl will naively pay for it & that folks perceive these things as PCs, not new devices of a separate platform. Look for the Linux version. Install gOS, or some other Linux OS, if you don't like the ASUS Linux. Bear in mine their OS is designed for this product, Windows is not. Paying the same price for half the hardware just to run Windows is not worth it. It's like buying a hybrid car to save gas, but paying extra to have a crummy V8 engine installed.
- Comes down to what do you need? I needed a small, portable PC desktop that runs XP. I use it for remote desktop and VMware client - then I map drives to other servers to run other stuff like music. So, not a huge need for a powerhouse. But, more importantly, I needed it to be small enough for me to grab and move - yet still strong enough to power a 1680x1050 resolution 22" flat screen. It does all that and it is just awesome. (Linux was not an option for me - I use windows and have no desire to emerse myself in the Linux world just to run a cheap, small, portable PC). Major thumbs up on this box. If anything, I wish it had a solid state drive - although it is currenly super quiet, so I guess I have nothing to complain about there. The wireless was spotty for me, so I just slap a cable on. Not sure if its my network or the EEE box... but I got dropped a LOT and just got frustrated.
- Love the smart, the low-key, banter of this movie. Wish such films were made today.

- Price was good for the product, but Dell has a quality problem with motherboards over the past few years, and a bigger problem with tech support and the techs they send out for the warranty issues. I have purchased no less than 10 Dells over the past 6 years for business and home and used to recommend them to everyone, but no more. I will never own another Dell and advise everyone else to steer clear of them as well.

5 comments about HP Pavilion A6430F Desktop PC (AMD Phenom Triple Core 8400 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 640 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
- Absolutely no complaints here. The computer is fast, and is able to run Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign simultaneously with no problems.
- There are many problems with this system. Start up stalls; after starting up the screen is black, no files found; problems with the card reader, would not recognize the card, files would not support card; system restore would not function, 6 tries even with tech support and would not restore, internal errors. Only had system for 14 days.
- I bought this computer 3 weeks ago. No problems so far. I'm very happy with it. I was replacing a 7 year old HP because the hard drive was going. The only thing to me was getting used to vista after using XP for so long. Not a big issue though I just have to hunt for something a little longer. I would buy this again.
- This computer is great overall. It far exceeded my expectations of Vista. I've had the computer for 5-6 months now, and the biggest problem I had was when the computer started running insanely slow and eventually crashed. Good old Vista ran a diagnostics test and found all I had to do was download an update for the graphics card that came installed on the computer, and it has run even better than before since then.
The computer has several USB ports, which is great for multiple wireless accessories. The 15-in-1 memory card reader is another great benefit, allowing you to transfer pictures from almost any camera without worrying about cables and camera software.
The computer has tons of memory, which is phenomenal. I've got half a gazillion programs, games, and pictures on mine which would bog down any computer from 2-3 years ago, but this one still runs very smoothly.
It plays the older games on it without any serious issues, at least with the games I've tried so far. Some of the 5+ year old games have random graphic hiccups (they seem to be incompatibilities with Vista rather than the computer itself as my brother's Vista laptop also has the same graphic issues with the same games), but they don't affect the game play.
I would buy another one of the same computer in a heartbeat if I needed a second computer. It has been dependable, probably the most reliable computer I've had so far.
- This computer is poorly built and does not function properly. My problem with this pc is a continuing failure of the video functions. It freezes up sometimes while other times it will display a "no signal imput" message on the screen. I have tried all the recommended procedures with no success and a lot of wasted time and effort. Trying to get assistance from HP on a warranty repair (you do all the work and maybe they'll send you a replacement part) is impossible.
My advice to you is do not buy HP desktops. I will never buy another HP product.

5 comments about HP Pavilion S3400F Slimline Desktop PC (AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core 5200+ Processor, 3 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
- Such a pity, the looks and performance of the PC itself is outstanding from its speed to its media capability. BUT both the keyboard and mouse that were supplied with this HP PC repeatedly froze up!
I've consumed so many hours with the call center uninstalling, restalling drivers; resetting BIOS; subsituting hardware I already owned from other machines, to no avail!
My solution? I purchased a USB keyboard and mouse from another manufacturer and it works perfectly. Disappointed that HP did not provide this solution. Also it's a pity that two valuable USB slots are now consumed with basic imput devices...but at least it now works.
- Very good and powerfull computer. Takes little space and the wi-fi perfect, no more cables. Still dont like Vista that much but the computer is very fast and silent.
- I bought this for my small business and it is perfect. It is small and powerful. I highly recommend it.
- I bought this about 3 weeks ago, maybe a bit longer, and the first week i had it i had to call up HP and have it sent in for repairs. Expecting it back in a few days from the repair place. Very pleased with HP's support, not to pleased with the purchase. There shouldnt be any reason I need to send it in for repairs the first week of using it.
On the other hand, from what I saw, it works well. The TV connector in the back helps with space, so we only need a monitor, and not a tv, monitor, desk, etc etc. 500 gb of space means i can save my shows and not worry about running out of space. They say 3 gb of RAM, but I got 4. Evidentally they all do, but the computer only utilizes 3 gb, and the other 1 is for cache.
Very good computer for the price, just waiting to actually be able to use it! Kind of disappointed, since I have not been able to use the tower, or the monitor i purchased through amazon. Hope it works, and there are no other issues once I get it running.
- Great price, quite fast, and BluRay works nicely in Media Center. However, the fan is a little too loud, it does not have Wireless N built in (I checked, but I could be wrong), and it should have an eSata port for an external drive to support HD playback.
Overall, I am very pleased!
