  1. You will be getting a good amount for the money you spend for this computer. This is what I would call a perfect system for a non-gamer, who is not into upgrading too much, but wants a solid system that can last for many years.

I bought this computer for my daughter who is now attending college, and needs a decent system for her homework research. It is perfect. It does not have the thrills of a quad processor, but speed for Google searching is not required. It does not have the graphics to play Call of Duty 4. You do not need extreme graphics to do research. It does not have a blue ray drive to burn cd's, nor a second hard drive built in to do system back-ups. There are workarounds for those issues too...

My point is, for the amount you are paying, you will receive a decent system, good value, and you will not be disappointed. I would say this could also be a good office system for a small office or home office. Wireless modem is already installed so it is ready to go as a second computer. Vista premium is easy to use, and was an easy transition from XP.

  2. I just purchased this computer,i like how small and how cool it looks, but was very un happy when this unit says it has s video, but the small paper that was in box, said if it does not have a s video and a componet video located right here, and they showed where it was located, then you are unable to use this as a tv monitor, well thanks hp, you could off told me that on your web site.so i sent mine back,im waiting for a refund.the s video that is on there is located where cable wire plugs in,but thats only for a video camera, per instructions in the owners manual.

  3. The computer is okay (u get what you pay for) but I am on my second wireless keyboard. The first did not work right out of the box and after 30 minutes of being hassled by a barely english speaking agent out of india and 7 days later I received the 2nd wireless keyboard. After 5 days of it working, we starting getting a message saying we were holding down the ctrl key. Needless to say, i went out and bought a non HP wired keyboard, and have had no problems.

  4. I BROUGHT THIS SLIMLINE PC WITH KEYBOARD N MOUSE INCLUDED AND IT'S GREAT, FIRST TIME BUYING A REFURBISHED PC IT WORKS LIKE A DREAM AND FAST, I JUST NEED A NEW MONITOR LIKE A 19" THEN I'LL BE HAPPY , I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE, IT'S QUIET SLIM DOESN'T TAKE UP MUCH SPACE AT ALL... GO GET ONE............. JOI-BERMUDA

  5. I bought this computer in hopes that the OS would work better than my 2002 Media. Alas, it did not. The computer itself works OK aside from it getting hot if left on too long. The OS, however, has too many glitches that the cheap price isn't worth the headache. I would not recommend the Vista version.

  1. Pros: This is a first-class product mix. Vista now works well (for me) and with all my software packages including graphics (e.g., Photoshop, MS Office 2007, IE, Visio 2007, MS Project 2002 & 2007 ...). Adding my old and beloved monitor (Sony 234) went w/o problems. I have no hardware problems at all and the system meets all my needs, plus the often not inconsiderable demands of Vista. The HP updater is quite good as well, tho' maybe a bit redundant in some cases.

Cons: Not liking battery changes, I'm not a "wireless" fan and wish there had been an option for wired mouse and keyboard. However, I simply removed the antenna and replaced the wireless mouse and keyboard with my old mouse and keyboard, without a hitch.

  2. I purchased this computer based on the reviews and it has been nothing but trouble. I bought this as I was getting tired of building my own. I wish I would have just built my own as this computer is constructed of the type of second rate garbage that made me start to build my own in the first place. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

  3. Well, I purchased this for a excellent price form a national retailer that was/is going out of business. I am replacing my 4-5 year old Sony Desktop that I am finding hard to give up. Now, I purchased it knowing I couldn't return it if there was a problem since all sales were final. Unfortunately there was a problem, seems the TV tuner card installed in the computer was 'bad'.

Knowing I couldn't send it back to the store I went trough the common steps to try and correct the problem (update/install new drivers), no luck so I called HP... Their tech phone service is great! The tech gave me a couple more options to try and again with no luck we determined the card was bad. He sent me another TV tuner card, it arrived in two days! I plugged it in and my computer works flawlessly, quick easy fix and couldn't be happier. Dell should take some pointers from the customer service rep I talked to at HP!

Now on to the computer... this thing will do anything I ask it to. Very powerful and lightning fast, hard to beat the built in DVR/TV Tuner Card and the impressive video card. I don't care too much for Windows Media Center that is included with Vista but I am getting use to it, most problems I have/had with it were due to the bad TV tuner card. I have erased some of the software `junk' installed by HP, (now if they would only keep that out of the computer to begin with). For the price I bought it at I don't think you could find another Blue-ray/HD DVD equipped computer. Can't wait to give the Blue-ray a try.

Having opened the computer and changed the card, I now see where users say there need to be more room in there! I am not sold on HP's pocket drive and Media Drive, I feel the space could be better used or left empty for the purchaser to decide what to use that wasted space for.

Overall I am VERY impressed with this computer now if it can stand the test of time as my old Sony desktop did I will be extremely happy! Yes this computer deserves the 5-stars even with the minor and easily fixed problem.

  4. This computer does it all. The piano black exterior is great to look at, and the performance is excellent. I couldn't be happier with a purchase. I did run into an issue with the power supply fan not working, however HP service was exceptional and they not only replaced the power supply, but sent someone to my home to put it in. The entire process took only a few days. Since then, the computer has been everthing I hoped it would be and more.

  5. This product is refurbished and that information was not in the Amazon description and not clearly identified by the 3rd party vendor Tiger International. Since I have previously bought two refurbished computers (HP) with very negative results, I returned this item.

  1. Shuttle XPC Glamor Series SG33G5 - SFF - no CPU - RAM 0 MB - no HDD - GMA 3100 - Gigabit Ethernet - Monitor : none

This is a great little machine. Supports up to 4GB or RAM which means it will run Microsoft Visa really well. Since this is a barebones (no Hard Drive, Processor, RAM nor CD\DVD Drive) you will need to purchase those components to add. The instructions are top notch - best I have ever seen - and they are full color. It took me about 20 minutes to get everything installed and running.

    VISTA Notes
The ability to support 4GB of RAM is key for running VISTA. Most of the complaints with Vista can be tied to having to little RAM. 3GB of hits the sweet spot with Vista and 4GB makes it fly. Be aware that if you are not running the 64 bit version of Vista, the operating system cannot see or utilize over 3GB of RAM.

    I installed the following:
    $70 Intel E2160 CPU
    $84 4GB (2x2GB)
    $50 160GB SATA Hard Drive
    $20 DVD Rewritable drive

Even though this machine supports up to a Quad Core processor, that is overkill for most setups including HTPC use.

Since it has integrated graphics with HDMI out, you don't need a dedicated video card. If you want to play HD Content directly to your tv, you will need a dedicated card. Don't fall into the trap of buying the most expensive card in the hopes that it will work. It won't fit and it the power supply doesn't have enough juice anyway. Look for a HIS 2600XT video card (~$120); this card has more than enough power and gets the best reviews for HD DVD and Blu-ray playback.

If you are going to stream HD content to say your PS3, you will not need an additional video card, just a UPnP or DLNA server (Twonky, TVersity, etc).

I found a factory recertified version of this system at newegg for $210 bring the entire system cost to $475 shipped. For my money, if you want a small form factor (SFF) computer for your desk, kitchen or Home Theater, this machine is your best option.

  1. i was a little hesitant because
it was a gateway. but its very fast.
and you wont need to upgrade anything.
got plenty of memory. big hard drive.
the only thing i am going to upgrade in the vidio card.
    very good computer

  2. We bought a Gateway desktop and Windows got hosed for some reason. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate toll number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't work, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to use it. Again WTF? These people are horrible. Save yourself a lot of trouble and get a Mac. Anything but Gateway.
