5 comments about Compaq Presario SR5450F Desktop PC (2.0 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. This a very good computer at an affordable price. I am
bothered by some of the reviewers that give this a low
score. Right out of the box it is easy to setup. Burning CD's and DVD's are a synch. There is a media center that allows you to watch tv/movies/listen to music/ and more. This thing is fast and quiet.I added a 19" Acer wide screen monitor and a Bose Companion 2 multimedia speaker system. I have recommended the SR55450F to friends and family and I recommend it to you.

  2. This is my first new out of the box pc and I love it!
The Windows Home Vista is great and my computor runs smooth and keeps cool. This computor comes with 2Gb of memory ( 2048 Mb ) and a 500 GB
hard drive. Great Buy and quality parts, which is hard to come by.
Every thing is user friendly. The graphics are great ( NVIDIA GeForce
6150 SE GRAPHICS ) iT COMES WITH A dvd/cd burner and has the light scribe technology which can laser silk screen graphics on to you're discs.
Comes equipted with a AMD Athalon x2 5000 doul core processor and this is every bit worth the money!
I purchased this computor 1 month before this review was made, and paid around 100 dallors less at Best Buy, than what is advertised on amazon.

  3. I have this PC and I tell it's great, but why does Amazon sell it with out a monitor? I bought mine at walmart, same serial no., same specs and every thing. But mine came with a 20 in. LCD, and this only cost me $520

  4. Background info: This is the first computer I've ever purchased; owned it 5 months. I consider myself a casual, novice user. Wanted a computer (pc or mac) with new OS and suitable for long-term use.
The dual-core e2160 processor seems efficient. Even with Opera, Media Player and my emulator running, cpu usage remains around 6 percent. The tower is very quiet and doesn't overheat. The mouse feels "right" in the hand; keyboard isn't too clicky.
The preloaded software chews through 1GB of RAM! Vista Premium is beautiful, though the memory usage is a bit shocking. But it's not ALL Vista's fault. Norton Internet Security and HP software REALLY slow it down. I turned off Aero, set display to "classic mode," streamlined the startup menu, uninstalled Norton, and downloaded security software with a smaller footprint. Now it boots quickly, runs faster, and *rarely* freezes.
Ripping DVDs and CDs is a total joy with SO much available space. There's lots of room to experiment with open source software. I now use Firefox and OpenOffice.org. I will try partitioning the HDD to dual-boot Linux (never would have tried this without system restore!)
I chose this computer because it has lots of storage, features, and a good price. Please shop around; as other reviewers mentioned, it's probably cheaper at a brick-and-mortar store. I paid $560 for pc, 17-inch lcd monitor,
    2-year extended warranty, AND tax.
Overall, I'm very happy with this pc; I'd recommend it to anyone. It was an excellent way to adopt Vista without the fuss. But those who want the full Vista experience ought to buy more RAM.

  5. I bought this computer to replace a eight year old Gateway that couldn't be updated anymore.I considered a Dell but had one of their laptops fry after just three years.I saw this one at Amazon and figured for the price
it was worth a try and I can tell you I am very happy with it.Vista takes a lttle getting used to but the computer hasn't given me one problem,so much faster then my old one.I upgraded the memory to 2 megs of ram it runs quiet and has been very reliable.

5 comments about Apple iMac Desktop with 20" Display MA877LL/A (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive).
  1. Superb machine. Fast. Very. Great screen and colors. Quiet. BUT....
    If you want to prevent
    1. Crashes every 5-10 minutes - uninstall Microsoft Office from the machine. It will solve 95% of the mysterious crashes I had to experience.
    2. Some horizontal lines that appear from time to time on the background and sometimes on some windows - you must install a widget that controls (and increases) the speed of the fans. The machine gets hot as some have mentioned, I guess because of the way it is built - everything enclosed in one box without much air circulation. I have installed a freeware called smcfancontrol then increased the speed of ALL 3 fans by some 30% and the horizontal lines just disappeared.
I think iMac does not crash now anymore.

  2. maybe would have liked it more with a matte screen instead of shiny screen. Storage is good, thought I would never run out but alas the more you have the more you use.

  3. Our PC died and since it was several years old, we opted to get a new computer instead of fixing it. I talked to several people who have Macs and love them but was hesitant about the price. We have had it for about a month and a half now and so far, I would not go back to PC. It's fast and very user friendly. I have Microsoft Office on here so I can do all the papers I need for school and spreadsheets I need for work - AND they transfers over to the PCs at computers labs and work. This Mac is SO MUCH FASTER than a PC that has a higher processor speed (Windows, I'm guessing?). GO BUY ONE. YOU WILL LOVE IT. It's not what you think, you can really do more with it than it being just a toy.

  4. I purchased this item recently and thought that the speed 2.4 might be too slow compared to the other models, but I was wrong!

Saving a few hundred on purchasing the unit with a 2.4 processor versus a 2.8 or 3.06 was the best decision I made. I used the cash to purchase 4gb of ram which was easily upgraded.

The unit itself runs great and I am glad I made this decision.

  5. This is our 4th month with the 24" Imac.2.4 Gz. We upgraded memory to 4 Gig from the 1 Gig that shipped standard. We found Apeture, the Apple photo application, will not run well on anything less.
We changed the cards ourselves. This Imac came with Samsung cards, so we did the upgrade with Samsung cards.
The leopard operating system is radically intuitive,so we found we had to consult a manual to investigate all the features. Open source software means lots of innovation and if you (like us) are new to apple you really should take a week to read up on, and awaken to what it can do for you. These macs are actually fun(remember fun?)to operate. They do not bark at you or give you obscure error file codes. Things, files, folders do not go missing.
The big screen allows unheard of editing and layout possibility. The unit is unbelievably clean looking. There is ONE cord to this entire thing(the power cord)this particular unit came with a wireless keypad and mouse. The stereo is very good and completely built in. This unit comes with its own Airport extreme included, which operates as a base station,it runs an airport equipped macbook in the bedroom at the other end of the house.
Not knowing about this feature, we purchased a separate base station and were astounded that the airport in the Imac operated far better than the separate one, which we returned.(thanks Amazon)
After years of grating noises from many brands of P.C.s the Imac runs silent. There is a tiny fan that sometimes comes on, but it is quieter than the fridge down the hall in the kitchen.
Applications: I pages is not quite up to its advertising, it does the job but has its limitations especially file types it will save to. I would buy the windows for Mac if I were doing it again. There are quite a few on- line business applications that will not work with a leopard browser,i.e Canada Post and 1&1 internet tools, however the overwhelming majority do.
Webmail took some time to get to work consistently, it is laid out so differently from OE

5 comments about HP Pavilion M8330F Desktop PC (AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core Processor, 3 GB RAM, 640 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. I got this on sale for under 600. Amazing deal. I give it five stars at that price. Fast, Vista, lots of HD, lots of RAM.

Complaints... I had to add a PCI-e x16 card as the on-board graphics capabilities are not so good (scored a 3.0 on Vista benchmark). have to be careful on what card you get as there is not much room inside so some larger cards would have issues. Also the power supply is low wattage and most newer video cards will require more. Also should mention that it does not come with any software disc. No Windows Vista disc and no Recovery disc. It has a 10 gig partition labeled as RECOVERY. You can burn the image to three DVDs or keep the partition there for recovery from the boot screen by F11. If you had harddrive failure it would be lost. Be sure to burn the discs just in case. Still a great deal for the price.

  2. I purchased this PC from a source other than Amazon, after doing a lot of research on different brands and models. I was a bit skeptical at first because I had never owned a machine with an AMD processor and I had heard so many terrible things about Vista... but after having used it daily for over 3 months now, I haven't had a single problem with it. Unlike some of the people who have reviewed this machine, my dvd/cd drive works great and I love the LightScribe option. Since I have passed the learning curve now, I can honestly say that I like Vista, too!! This is my 4th HP computer and I have never experienced a problem with any of them. Problems with Windows, yes, problems with monitors, yes... but never a problem with the machine itself. I am still running my 6 year old HP Pentium III desktop in another room and have both PCs connected to a multi-function HP printer through a wireless network. Everything works together flawlessly! I purchased a 24" Samsung HD monitor to compliment the capabilities of this PC and together, they smoke!!! The only thing I would wish for is a blu-ray drive to go in it. I hear that HP is releasing an external one soon but I haven't seen anything about it in the past couple of months. I'd rather have one to go in the empty bay on the machine but I'll settle for an external one if that's all that is available. Would I purchase this machine again if I had to buy another computer? Without a doubt! It does everything I need it to do and more.

  3. I'm so glad I paid the extra $130 for the quad core processor! It will extend the life of the computer by a few years and it makes the computer run really fast now! Even Windows Vista can't slow it down! And...despite all the bad stuff I heard about Windows Vista -- I really like it. Everyone complains that Windows Vista is too slow -- but not with this computer! And the TV tuner card is great -- we get 34 channels and we just use an antenna!

  4. HP's AMD Athlon dual-core 6000 plus w/3 gigs of RAM is the minimum here, as a power-hungry Vista OS sucks any extra speed out of this system. TV tuner card blows, so don't buy this setup for that (which I did). Graphics card is faster than average, but not top-notch. I still can't figure out how to run analog signals from my camcorder and have them play on the monitor, even though it has composite video IN through AV cables, and an (overrated) "media center" configuration (makes 10 dollar sounds but delivers 5 dollar performance). Others have written that the drives are noisy, but it's only the the seeking portion of the multi-drive that is loud, plenty quiet for my needs, and money saved is several hundred dollars less than a comparable Dell.

  5. HP Pavilion M8330F Desktop PC (AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core Processor, 3 GB RAM, 640 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium)

Got the computer quick tried to fire it up but system could not find boot disk and wanted me to install it. After looking at the computers initial settings noticed only one 320gig hard drive was recognized opened case and noticed the serial cable was not connected to the second hard drive (the one with vista installed on it). Plugged it in and started right up;however, Vista would not display on my TV (32in pc ready HDTV). Hooked it up to old monitor and it worked eventually played with the graphics card settings and got everything straight. Using a HDMI cable was able to connect PC to HDTV. IF USING A TV FOR MONITOR RECOMMEND USING AN HDMI CABLE TO CONNECT WITH PC. There are options you can play with to get the desktop to fit the screen. Now the computer works awesome, no other problems with tuner card, video card, hard disks or processors. Although Intel chips are better this machine still smokes anything I have ever owned. Definitely something I would recommend even with the hassle.

5 comments about Sony VAIO VGC-LT15E Desktop PC/TV All-In-One (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5250, 2 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. This product is not only asthetically pleasing, but the qaulity and performance is amazing. I have had it for 2 months now, and LOVE IT! You will be very happy. The keyboard is great, mouse good size. The T.V. is a not as clear, but that is probably b/c i am still using the old cable, and not the tv digital box. The computer screen itself is amazing. BUY IT!!! :)

  2. I admit it; I was skeptical. Now that I've been using the computer for about a month, I can honestly say that this is the easiest to set-up, fastest-booting computer I have ever used. I deleted MS WORKS and added MS OFFICE PROFESSIONAL and set up WebShots as my wallpaper/screensaver, and I am very pleased with everything about this computer. The initial purchase price is a bit steep, but the ease of set-up alone justifies the higher price.

  3. I've had this computer for about two weeks now. The machine is sleek, has a beautiful display and is everything I expected from Sony. On the other hand, Windows Vista is a disaster. Having worked with XP for a number of years I can only say that XP is a far superior OS than Vista. Vista has way too many functions that always seem to interfere with user's easy manipulation of the computer. It took me several days to figure out how to disable some of the unnecessary and quirky functions. I suppose that with time I will get comfortable with Vista but the learning curve is steep. The only thing Sony could do to improve this machine is to not overload it with sample software that many will probably not want.

  4. Excellent product and idea. It is so wonderful to take the entire computer anywhere in my home without disconnecting cords. I love this product. I unplug the unit from the outlet and away we go... In addition, I purchased it at an excellent price. Best Buy, Circuit City, Sony or Sears could not beat Amazon price. Thank you Amazon.

  5. Let me first tell a little about me so that you can put my review in perspective.

I am not from computer field and am not very strong on hardware. However, I like to play with technology and my expertise is a little more than average user. Also, I have used Vaio laptop before, so I am more used to sony products. The most imp thing - I got this desktop for less than $1000 from a friend (who needed to get rid of it), so my value-for-money is much more than most people discussing here (I assume it is available for >$1700 at most stores).

Having said that, this is an amazing machine. I had my eyes set on it for quite a while. This is not the fastest of the lot (1.6GHz core 2 duo), so if you are a hardcore gamer, you might want to look into Dell XPS etc.

This is an absolute beauty made keeping 'most' people in mind. I assume most of us do office work, check mails, basic media work and TV. if these are your needs, this computer is a gem. keyboard and mouse are breeze to set up. screen is the best i have ever seen on any machine. this includes most TVs you get now-a-days. i am soon planning to retire my bedroom TV and replace it with this one. DVD, music, photos run seamlessly and I don't expect any glitches.

    My cons-
sony made this full of crapware. i have always hated it. the first thing i did was to get rid of all their crap softwares keeping drivers only.

a little 'louder' than usual. now, i realize i am being too harsh. however, i think when u spend close to $[...] you should get a perfect desktop. this machine is a little louder than some Dells i have used (i have the same problem with my vaio laptop). since this is a pretty powerful machine packed in very very compact area, this is understandable

i would love to have a mousepad on the keyboard itself, but this is no way a big deal.

I am still figuring some stuff out (esp live TV) and will update this review as it goes.

hope this helps you in making your decision.

  1. You will be getting a good amount for the money you spend for this computer. This is what I would call a perfect system for a non-gamer, who is not into upgrading too much, but wants a solid system that can last for many years.

I bought this computer for my daughter who is now attending college, and needs a decent system for her homework research. It is perfect. It does not have the thrills of a quad processor, but speed for Google searching is not required. It does not have the graphics to play Call of Duty 4. You do not need extreme graphics to do research. It does not have a blue ray drive to burn cd's, nor a second hard drive built in to do system back-ups. There are workarounds for those issues too...

My point is, for the amount you are paying, you will receive a decent system, good value, and you will not be disappointed. I would say this could also be a good office system for a small office or home office. Wireless modem is already installed so it is ready to go as a second computer. Vista premium is easy to use, and was an easy transition from XP.

  2. I just purchased this computer,i like how small and how cool it looks, but was very un happy when this unit says it has s video, but the small paper that was in box, said if it does not have a s video and a componet video located right here, and they showed where it was located, then you are unable to use this as a tv monitor, well thanks hp, you could off told me that on your web site.so i sent mine back,im waiting for a refund.the s video that is on there is located where cable wire plugs in,but thats only for a video camera, per instructions in the owners manual.

  3. The computer is okay (u get what you pay for) but I am on my second wireless keyboard. The first did not work right out of the box and after 30 minutes of being hassled by a barely english speaking agent out of india and 7 days later I received the 2nd wireless keyboard. After 5 days of it working, we starting getting a message saying we were holding down the ctrl key. Needless to say, i went out and bought a non HP wired keyboard, and have had no problems.

  4. I BROUGHT THIS SLIMLINE PC WITH KEYBOARD N MOUSE INCLUDED AND IT'S GREAT, FIRST TIME BUYING A REFURBISHED PC IT WORKS LIKE A DREAM AND FAST, I JUST NEED A NEW MONITOR LIKE A 19" THEN I'LL BE HAPPY , I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE, IT'S QUIET SLIM DOESN'T TAKE UP MUCH SPACE AT ALL... GO GET ONE............. JOI-BERMUDA

  5. I bought this computer in hopes that the OS would work better than my 2002 Media. Alas, it did not. The computer itself works OK aside from it getting hot if left on too long. The OS, however, has too many glitches that the cheap price isn't worth the headache. I would not recommend the Vista version.

  1. We bought this in early January and have had nothing but trouble with it from the second week on. The early problems were caused by Vista but the hard drive crashed and we have had no luck with the HP tech help. First they sent us a hard drive to replace ourselves and when we called for assistance they told us customers should never open the tower and replace it themselves. THEN we had to send in the whole tower plus send back the first hard drive. THEN they sent back the tower saying it was fixed and it has the same problem. We can't even boot it up. I spent over an hour on the phone with HP yesterday only to be told that my current problem was the same as my first and someone else would have to call me back within 48 hours. Buy a MAC. This PC has nice features, they just don't work.

  2. You can not beat the quality for the price. I would highly recommend this computer for anyone who is looking for speed and reliability at a reasonably price.

  3. The Good:

It's an awesome buy! It's been almost 3 months since i purchase, which makes this review valid! So here we go,

    0.) Fast Free Delivery!

1.) Blazing Fast: I'm a person who's had the experience using very high tech and fast computers whether professionally or personally. This computer can act as both. Opening up numerous applications at once doesn't slow the computer down nor hogs up memory usage because of the double process built right in. CD Burning & DVD Burning should be in another category of its own for the positives, but it's all gravy.. all i can say for these two is BlaZing Fast!

2.) Stylish: It's call the [Slimline] for a reason... it's portable! lol... you would think laptops and PDAs are the only hotshots that can move from point A to point B. this little machine packs the punch of the big guys yet small enough and sleek enough to lay horizontal/vertical somewhere on the entertainment center with the right hook ups for a true "In Your Face, Dude Don't Touch" entertainment experience. In addition, you can go wireless! It comes with its own little wireless antenna at the back. Lastly, it requires little cleaning... (Does take smudges and fingerprints if used on a daily basis) i would say at least every month and a half with a dusk cloth should do.

3.) Entertainment: ugh... can i saw breath taking! YES! It really is... Vista Premium is nothing like basic and the other flimsy they put together for a quick buck. Vista Home Premium is a true Vista OS experience for beginners, Intermediates, and Professionals. I personally believe they should do away with Vista basic and the other version (Can't remember now) and just lunch Vista Home Premium as the kick off for a decent price. It has everything and more! The Media Center is off the hook! All you have to do to Watch Cable TV via Media center is... (lol too easy) hook the cable to the back of the CPU, make sure you have a great monitor or TV with VGA, HDD, or SVGA connection, put batteries (included) in remote (comes with desktop & keyboard), and you're good to go. The nice thing about watching TV on my new Flat Screen 24-inch monitor is the color is crispier than on my hold TV, sound quality improved... it honestly felt i was watching TV in High Def! The Media Center has every thing and more to make a long story short.

Secondly, it's great for playing video games! I honestly toss the old getting a Wii or PS3 for the summer from my mind because of how impressed i was in seeing the graphics hands-on. World of Warcraft and Flyff are two impressive online games that's worth checking out. But it does offer built in extras (It's from HP... you know they always attach the extras) of all different genres of games to try & buy or play for free. Vista games suck! lol. Sorry Bill Gates, but geesh... Chess? old Card games? Minesweeper? lol... get with the program... give us Halo! or the new Age of Emperors to juggle with. Yes reviewer, i haven't forgotten to mention that it's the new Graphics Processor that's built-in to this slimline model.
Watching DVD's, Recording DVD's, Recording Live TV Shows, Burning Games, Playing CDs, Pictures, iTunes & MP3's, Audio Mixing & Splicing, Designing, Animations, Web site creations, softwares, etc. are all concerns of today's generation. And YES This computer can handle them.

4.) Profession: Microsoft suite programs 07-8 (Though expensive) is worth the price... I have the trial version currently and i'm planning on purchasing the real deal when i have the cash. why? Because it's easy to maneuver, i love the tabs, GUI is easy on the eyes, tons of options and customizations, and best of all to me it seems that Microsoft created the programs to be more insync with each other.. what surprises me i that i can really create professional looking flyer templates, resumes, and newsletter from scratch in Microsoft Word without needing to buy Ms Publisher. Being able to create and maintain one's web site should be a breeze for all those entrepreneurs because of the huge Hard Drive, large RAM, and power saving options. All you need is a good software for web site development and you're set!

Secondly, the new outlook express known as Mail is awesome! i integrate mines with aol so i can have that upgraded outlook business feel (without the ads) when checking my email.

--- And that's it for the goods... i asure you there's more.. waaay more that i don't have the time to add which is worth checking out and the fact that as more software continues to grow with the future and vista the possibilities are endless... i use to be a vista hater and a Oh i'm sticking with XP so don't tell me smash kind of attitude. But after experience Home Premium... my mind has been change with the WoW Factor.

    The Bad.

1.) Rebate is not as easy to get as they make it seems... i'm still figuring out how to... lol. maybe it's time to give HP a call..

2.) Keyboard and mouse are standard... but good.. i wish they were Wireless.

3.) I wish there was a slice of pie snuggled together in all that wrappings that came in the box... lol..

Overall, i definately recommend this slimeline as a must have! You can't get it anywhere at that price from nowhere else!

    -----
Updates, It's been almost 3 more months since i gave this review.. and! it remains valid. In addition, i found out that it has built in LiteScribe Technology which allows you to Laser zap your CDs into sweeet designs instead of using paper, gluesticks, and glitters to make an appealing CD lable

  4. I have had this for around three months. The design is wonderful. This is a very quiet computer! But.... it freezes up quite often. You can be watching a television show and it will freeze up. Sometimes the computer will sleep and need to be restarted before it will come back on... granted this could be me! But I really don't think so. I'm up in the air about recommending this to anyone else. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it was going to freeze up as often as it does. But I do like HP! Perhaps I have a dud!

  5. The worst possible computer experience imaginable. I've had it less than a month and four or five times a day the internet won't work, the printer has a mind of its own, and on, and on, and on. I've used computers for fifteen years, and NEVER have I seen anything like this. NEVER. Totally worthless piece of junk. Avoid!

  1. This item has been nothing but trouble.
    wireless keyboards goes to sleep.
fans are much louder after 1 year use.
massive heat load. Turn off the heat in winter and run your HP instead.
Poor wifi connection wile my laptop functions three feet away without issue.
This this is a lemon, do not buy it.

  2. Buy it! I liked it so much I bought another for my kids tv. It shouldn't be confused with a full time web browser. It is a computer, but it should be used inside the envelope it was intended. It is a DVR, digital media handler, and multi tuner TV with FM stereo. I have it digitally connected to 7.1 surround sound and a large screen plasma TV. It works very well. It does the job of tivo without a subscription fee, it allows access to downloading movies on demand (Movielink and Cinemanow) and the tv "guide" which you download for free gives all the info that you would get from digital cable. It is marvelous use of computer tech applied to TV.

You can access the web, but viewing the web with an HD screen as large as mine makes it hard to read. You have to adjust the resolution down to be able to see the web pages clearly.
