3 comments about Averatec N2575UH1E-1 12.1-inch Laptop (AMD Dual Core TL-64 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. i bought an averatec laptop about 1.5 years ago and it has been breaking on me ever since. the mouse moves around by itself, doesn't accept ipods, and doesn't accept my hp printer. the usb port is worthless... averatec is worthless. i bought it because it came with a lot of features, looked good, and was cheap... boy did i make a huge mistake!!!

i had to write this review to warn all consumers considering purchasing an averatec. my averatec laptop is the worst quality computer i have ever had. go ahead and buy averatec if you plan on using it for 6 months and throwing it away... because that is what will probably happen if you dare to buy from averatec.

i'll never buy from them or any company related to them.

  2. I completely disagree with the other reviewer. I got an Averatec back in 2004 and absolutely loved it. I still love it. Of course, 4 years later it's starting to seem slow, so I'm looking for a new one. I've convinced other people to try various Averatec's too and have never heard a complaint. For the price point and features included, they just can't be beat. Really. Give them a try. I know I've been thinking about getting this newer model to replace my old one and would highly recommend it to anyone else out there looking for a nice, solid laptop that's incredibly lightweight and is reasonably priced.

  3. I also have had a great experience with averatec. I bought one over 3 years ago as a "disposable" laptop..

Despite this, it has outlasted my HP, toshiba and dell laptops. It doesn't have overheating problems and continues to work well. I've taken it travelling to 15+ countries and its worked great.

Averatec may seem like a weird line of laptops, but my averatec 1100 has been great.

4 comments about Acer Aspire 5050-5430 14.1" Laptop Computer (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core TK-53, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, Dual-Layer DVD-RW, WXGA, Windows Vista Home Premium).
  1. Works great, but like all ACER laptops, make sure to use a chill mat to protect your computer. If it gets too hot, ACER computers have been known to die because of overheating.

  2. This laptop (Acer 5050) performs well. I have been very pleased with how it runs. The problem is that the power supply adaptor is defective. This happens so often, there is actually an external charger sold for the battery that you can find on amazon. I have had the adaptor connection on the laptop go out twice in 18 months. What's worse is unlike HP laptops, there is no docking station port to get around this problem. Acer will temperarely fix the problem for 400$, and is very unsympathetic in regards to helping me or their other customers find a solution. For this reason, I unfortunately had to give an otherwise good product a 1 star :(
Too bad because this would otherwise be a cost effective laptop, but with the mounting repair bills, it quickly becomes one of the most expensive laptops one will ever own.

  3. I bought it in Dec 07 and battery went out of commission in May 08. It wouldn't charge no more than 2%. Also when I start the computer with the battery on it hangs up for A VERY LONG time!

To replace the battery costs [...] There was another user that had a similar issue, and Acer was replacing certain batteries for a known issue. Unfortunately they would not replace mine!! So now I have a mobile DESKTOP.... since I have removed the battery and have it plugged in all the times.

Also 1GB memory is too low and works very very slow. I upgraded to 2GB and works great!

Wifi has a toggle switch (to turn on/off). Even after I disable wifi after few minutes wifi comes back up. I have learned to live with this now, but for this reason I prefer to have a hard on/off switch to turn off wifi whenever I don't need it.

It is said to have 120GB, but I guess someone screwed up on the bytes to GB conversion and computer actually shows only 101.9GB!

  4. I bought this computer last January. For the price of $600 is really a bargain.

Problems: After two months the web cam only could be used if I was logged to the messenger.

You might want to have it on a cool place because the computer and the ac adaptor become very hot, but I haven't have any failure yet

For the Ram, you might want to consider to at least but another 512mb of memory, you do that, and that machine would fly

No Windows Vista cd is included, that is bad, and for the drivers you must dowload them from the ACER site

But believe me, is a nice deal, still works like the first day (only the webcam issue )

4 comments about HP Pavilion S3100N Slimline Desktop PC (AMD Athlon 64 Processor 4000+, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. Computer works fine so far, but I question the new Microsoft program Vista. Was there a real need for this program or is Microsoft just interested in in getting a out a new program to sell more software?

  2. I purchased the Desktop, removed Vista and installed XP. Nothing worked since there were no XP drivers for this PC. I had to reinstall Vista and I am now stuck with it.

  3. I bought this computer (refurbished from J&R) because there is no way I could come close to building it for the price! This small unit is fantastic! It's so compact & quiet, I keep it on my desktop. I was concerned about the AMD processor in the small case since they tend to run a bit hot, but I have had no problems with it; it stays cool. I did put a 2 GB stick in - left a 512 MB - for a total of 2.5 GB. Runs Vista without a snag. I couldn't be more pleased.

  4. I agree that this machine and Vista do not play well together, and I'm not happy about it. However: with regard to XP, I called HP Customer Service and the rep gave me links to all the drivers I needed to get my copy of XP up and running (there were a few drivers missing but Windows Update picked them up eventually). However, I recently went back to Vista because I want to try Windows Media Center using an XBOX 360 as an extender. I'm hoping Media Center runs better than some of the other apps.

5 comments about CoolIt Freezone CPU Cooler.
  1. The only thing you need to know about this cooler is that it works! In a normal water cooled system the coolest your water will ever be cooled down to by the radiator is the air temperature in your room. This system uses TECs to cool the water to below ambient temperature. When I touch the tubes coming off the water block you can tell they are actually quite cool. Of course under load they are not quite as cool since the CPU is heating it up, but the water has ALWAYS been cooler than the water in my other liquid systems.
I currently have this cooler on my CPU and an external Corsair Nautilus 500 system cooling my graphics card. Even overclocked a full Ghz over standard the CPU is at 84 degress F, 30 degrees C at idle. Under full load running Super PI or Orthos it will get up to 100-120 degrees F. Definitely far within safety parameters. Let's just say that my overclocking is not currently limited by my CPU temperature anymore.

  2. So far, I haven't found a full-tower case that is known to accept a Freezone with no hassles. My old case only has room for the 6cm fan I installed so there's no way it will work in there. I believe my ASUS P5 DH Deluxe motherboard should have no big install issues. My Core 2 Duo is in serious need of cooling and I don't want to bother just finding a better air solution than my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

What cases have you folks put a Freezone into so far, where it fit well and the case closed properly?

    Thanks...

  3. Installed this on a new build and immediately the fan started spinning loudly and to think this unit is supposed to keep things quietly. The following day, the system would not boot up at all due to a Thermal Control Module (TCM) that went bad overnight. I tried calling CoolIt Systems technical support line and someone is supposedly calling me back. Well, I been waiting for over a week now and still no return call. Will try again.

  4. Pros: - these always outweigh the cons of this unit.

Its a heavyweight cooler. It has cooled my very hot Core 2 Quad Q6600 down to reasonable level's.

My ambient case temperatures are constantly in the 45's to 50's where as the coolit freezone keeps my cpu temps hovering in the 20's and in the 40s under load.

(outside case tempurature usually hovers in the 28's - 30's as I dont have A/C)

Compared to the stock fan supplied with the core 2 quad cpu, tempuratures were constantly hovering between 45C and 60C underload, so this is a massive improvement over the supplied processor fan.

Cons: - some but worth noting.

    1. Can a little difficult to install, the cooler slightly pinches one of the tubes however it does not seem to restrict the fluid flow.

    2. noise, this cooler's fan is very noisy at full tilt, however I find that the noise level dropped conciderally after tweaking the pentometer on the circuit board supplied with the unit. (however CoolIT should change this pentometer where you dont need a screwdriver to change it.)
however I have a guess that this is was intentional to prevent accidental changes while working in your case.

    3. Condensation... I have noticed a little of this on my CoolIT. I would suggest to buyers to please monitor your coolit device in the initial installation, if you turn it too cold while tweaking, a little condensation may develop on the TEC's, nothing to serious to worry about because not everyone will get it. however it should be noted.

    Other Thoughts:

Excellent overall cooling and a must buy if your an serious overclocker, or your surrounding conditions (as my conditions are) are harsher with high ambient tempuratures.

  5. My Q6600 Quad-Core proccessor is currently overclocked from 2.4 GHz to 3.6GHz and according to my temperature monitor my processor is sitting at a brisk 51.4 degrees Fahrenheit!! AWESOME!!

2 comments about AMD Athlon 64 processor 4000+ SOCKET 939 1.5V ( ADA4000ASBOX ).
  1. Just built my new gaming computer and ill tell ya what this processor is awesome. I thought about spending more money for the FX-55, but ive read alot of reviews on how the processors run basically identicallly when used for games. The fx runs faster with applications but thats no big deal for me since its only a minor difference anyways. This was definately worth the money and im very happy with my new system.

    Specifications -
    Model: AMD Athlon 64
    Core: Sledgehammer
    Operating Frequency: 2.4GHz
    FSB: Integrated into Chip
    Cache: L1/64K+64K; L2/ 1MB
    Voltage: 1.5V
    Process: 0.13Micron
    Socket: Socket 939
    Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, SSE2, 3DNOW!, 3DNOW!+
Packaging: Retail box(with Heatsink and Fan)

  2. Simply put. If you must have the bragging rights for the fastest CPU, buy the FX 55. I'm sure that you will benchmark a little higher than the 4000+ (nee FX53). If you want to pay $450 instead of $1200 and realize that for gameplay you won't notice a thing...get the 4000+
