- My PC is still working, so this cpu fan works, but what I like is the LED's and the uv rings it came with it. Looks great in the case, and comes with optional speed control. Buyers beware this is a bulky fan, make sure you have room to fit before buying.

- Terrific laptop especially for the price. I've owned a Dell and a Gateway this beats both by a mile. the quality is great and the 17" screen is crystal clear, I'd buy it again in a minute.
- The first thing I noticed is how light this machine is. For a 17" notebook it rests comfortably on your lap. Performance is quite speedy. It's well laid out - the webcam and mic are a plus as is the 2 Ghz of RAM. I have no complaints. I bought it for my wife and she likes it a lot. Nice notebook.

- I purchased this laptop on christmas day and received it today jan 17 (last estimated delivery date... cuttin it a little close... whew). Anyway, it worked great out of the box. It has all the specs listed above and is more then sufficient to run most of the modern applications and entertainment media including games. I've tested guildwars so far and it runs without so much as a hickup. I will be trying out oblivion shortly as soon as pc cillian is finished installing.
As for the machine itself, I was actually surprised to find that there was a fingerprint reader and remote control included with the computer. Neither of those were listed (from what I saw) and both were part of the system. The screen is a little dimmer then I'm used to, but it's excellent in general. Vista will definitely take some getting used to, but it can only get better. It's aero interface runs perfectly and looks decent. The system only shows that 3 gigs of ram are in use, but digging deeper, it displays 2 sticks of 2gigs each and 3 gigs are running the system while 1 gig is running the graphics. So it is all there and functioning. Full size keyboard and the mouse touch pad works better then any other laptops' touch pad that I've tried. I will be testing the wireless this weekend or next week. I suspect it will work fine.
All in all, for the price, this machine is above and beyond expectations. Thanks HP for this great product and Amazon's supplier, Techno Intelligence, for the price!
- I purchased this HP for work, but I also use it for some personal use. It has worked well with Adobe Premiere and Photoshop editing movies and large files. It also connects to a HDTV with a HDMI out and has three well placed USB ports and a firewire port. The audio controls on the keyboard are easy to use and the fingerprint reader is useful for making sure financial information is kept more secure.
My last laptop was a Vaio but I am satisfied with the switch to the HP Pavilion. I have a similar Pavilion desktop and I've been satisfied with running Vista with all the 2007 Microsoft and Adobe software. With 4GB of ram, I've had no problem multi-tasking on this machine, and the price makes this laptop affordable and quality. Not to mention, it's an attractive machine as I've gotten complements from my co-workers.
So far, the only negative thing I would mention is the glossy screen. It's a little bit annoying if you sit next to a window.
- Well, rigth now I can say it's a very good notebook. But, if you are thinking to buy this model you have to know: (1) Windows Vista 32 bit only read up to 3GB of memory Ram, in other words, you have to upgrade to a 64 bits windows vista version if you want or need to use more than 3gb of memery ram (2) in my particular case, I never could to generate the restore disks, I buy them to HP and the set of disk never arrived and I never couldn't to contact anybody in HP to solve this problem. I loose 16$. (3) I bought a Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit and install it, after that, I downloaded all the drivers and software from HP website and install one by one (be carefully to search the correct ones, in the documentation you will find how), all of then operates fine.
Finally, I have a very nice notebook, the best I've ever been. I'm an Oracle Developer Consultant and I work hard with this machine and I can say "Ït's very nice"

5 comments about HP Pavilion Media Center M8200N Desktop PC (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 6000+, 3 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium).
- I purchased this PC back in Jan 08 with a 20" HP monitor. Windows Vista is
nice but it takes some getting used to. I did'nt care for it at first but like it somewhat better now. I'm surprised that HP installed such a weak video card in a fast PC like this. My MS Flight Simulator X frame rate was only about 7-8 FPS. I have since upgraded the video card to a
Radeon HD3870 Overclocked PCI-E 2.0. I also had to change the stock 300 watt power supply to a 650 watt unit. The video card alone draws 270 watts under a load. I also increased the RAM to 6 gigs. This PC now is a real hotrod and FSX and Realflight G4 Simulators run between 20 & 30 FPS with full scenery. A super improvement over the stock system. The whole upgrade was an additional $370 but well worth it. Since the new video card is wide the stock TV card has to go. Just make sure you plug the monitor into the new card of choice. Vista service pack 1 upgrade also has to be installed if you want the additional ram to take effect.
The whole upgrade took about 1 hour for the new hardware and about another hour for the Vista upgrades. Now I'm very happy with this system.
- RAM = not upgradable(hard to upgrade..)
hard disk = hard to upgrade, noisy
anyway cpu is hella fast
- I've just had the worst experience I have ever had with tech support for any company I have ever dealt with. I bought an In-Home service plan, which HP support "couldn't find". So my computer was not working for 2 months when I had paid for a plan that guaranteed service within 3 business days. I've taken this all the way to the CEO...answer: Too bad, we're sorry but we cannot compensate you in any way. DON'T EVER BUY AN HP SERVICE PLAN...BETTER YET DON'T BUY HP PRODUCTS PERIOD!
- Bought this at an office supply box store in December 07--with the rebates it was a great deal. (Was $400 more if ordered from HP as a custom built.) No problems since then--not even any problems with Vista to my great surprise!
Added an 8500GT video card (connected to a Samsung LCD via DVI) and a 500W power supply (the original power supply is pathetic--I would not add anything the box without a new power supply--it is marginal--typical of most prepackaged computers of any brand.)
Had to call HP customer service once for a problem with one of the preinstalled software packages--service was excellent.
This is my first HP and I would recommend it. (I also own Dell and Lenovo.)
- I bought my first computer from a local PC shop around AMD K-166/200/233 days. Before that I had hand-me-downs. After that (for 10 years) I built my own so I could get the class of component that I wanted. This year I've bought two ready built systems including this one. So far I'm pretty satisfied with the HP but I've not been able to try everything out. I did add a DVI capable video card since it comes only with an onboard VGA.
No goofiness to Vista and I did install SP1 a couple of weeks ago. The TV and DVD capabilities have had no glitches.
A good home PC.

- Like all of AMD's line of processers,, the lowest level chips,, most of the time, will overclock to the level of their highest price chips, in the same family,, ie, this socket 939 AMD X2 3800+ chip is the little brother of this series. But as I type to you, I have this $118 dollar chip, running at 2750MHz instead of the stock 2000MHz. Thats a free 750MHz just for using a compatiable motherboard, memory, and cpu cooling solution. I've been running it with this setup, now for almost 2 years!!In benchmark testing, My chip is performing up to FX60 timings, and over its rated Speed!!! All of that for about 1/5 the money of the FX60. Do your self a favor, and read up on overclocking. It maybe able to help you keep an older system, up to speeds, with less money!
