1. In order to save money, you can find this as oem for below 135! Make sure you get a VENICE core however, which not only runs cooler but also has added SSE3 instructions. I am running this with an epox ep 9npaj (make sure you get a good nforce 4 mobo to oc this puppy!) and its at 2.55 ghz under max vcore and full load is only 40 (at max vcore, wow!). I really recommend tossing in a venus 12 heatsink/fan (my current hs/f) which amazon also sells for only 28$, lowest price on the web! Dont waste money on an fx 53 or athlon 64 4000, just get one of these w/ a venice core, clock it up and it's lights out!



2. I didn't buy the 3000+ here though. I bought it...uh, elsewhere ( a site that will be censored dare I name it, a COMPETITOR!) for fifteen bucks less.
   
   Never installed a processor before? Neither did I. I was so nervous I nearly wet my pants. Kept imagining trying to return a fried CPU, and the customer service rep on the phone telling me, "Sorry, Sir, we do not accept return items when the customer has damaged them."
   
   In reality, the processor installed with ease. No problems! And what is more, it overclocks like a dream, so you are saving about $100, buying AMD's CPU, over the comparable INTEL junk.
   
   Why I do not like INTEL? Well, heat is one reason. Their CPUs run hotter, and are more expensive. Why pay more? AMD has closed the reliability gap that used to exist back in the days when Intel abused its monopoly power and forbade major motherboard manufacturers to support the AMD chipset.
   
   If you had a neg experience with AMD in the past - FORGiVE AND FORGET! They are back with a vengeance and ain't taking any prisoners. The smart money buys AMD 64's in this market at this time. Paying more for Intel is... hmm, a "WASTE"?

1. This computer specs are pretty good and I've talked to people that had this and are happy with it. However the price listed here is no bargain. Toshiba sells this EXACT model direct for $849, shipping included!!!

1. We bought a Gateway desktop and Windows got hosed for some reason. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate toll number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't work, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to use it. Again WTF? These people are horrible. Save yourself a lot of trouble and get a Mac. Get HP. Get an abacus. Anything but Gateway.



2. This thing is super fast--it replaces a 5 year old HP media center. Can multitask effortlessly. Was afraid of Vista after hearing the many complaints but it works great on this machine. Had to add wireless and upgraded the graphics card but am very happy with this purchase.

1. Pros: Small, quiet, powerful, attractive, inexpensive. Probably the best deal around for a Home Theater Personal Computer (HTPC).
   
   Cons:HDMI audio broken. Problems with network adapter cutting in & out. Built and "supported" by Acer.
   
   I bought this device the day I heard about it. I knew it was the perfect fit for my entertainment center as a Home Theater Personal Computer (HTPC). Got home, set it up and was just all around happy. One HDMI cable to attach to my TV and no hassle with choosing resolutions (1080p) or anything. Set it so that Vista Media Center starts at windows start-up and attached a remote control. Connected to my shared videos/mp3/pictures/etc across the network. There were a couple of network issues where it just stopped working and then started again.
   
   HOWEVER, this is when my problems started. I received an Email from Acer telling me about a BIOS update. Then the Acer Update software started telling me that there was a BIOS update also. Apparently, one of the things this update was supposed to fix was the network issues. So, I ran the BIOS update, rebooted windows and found out that I don't have any sound anymore. Tried altering some settings, etc, but nothing seemed to work. I googled "acer x1200 hdmi audio" and came across people all with this same problem.
   
   I called Acer support (device is just over a month old at this point) and after about 45 minutes waiting I finally speak to someone that tells me to do a Windows System Restore, even though this won't change anything on the BIOS. The phone conversation was disconnected, so I wait for the representative to call me back, since we are in the middle of trying to help me. When this happened to me before with Dell, they called back in a matter of minutes. Needless to say, no one called me back. So about 30 mins later, I call support again, wait for about an hour and finally get through to someone else. I explain the situation to him and he starts chastising me about updating the BIOS and how no one should ever update the BIOS. I then explain to him that I was notified 2 different ways by Acer to update. Needless to say, he shuts up and has no solution, except for me to have it shipped to them out of my own pocket to have it repaired. By repaired, I'm sure they mean reformatted, and not fixed. If it could be fixed, they would just release a BIOS update for everyone to use to fix their system themselves.
   
   I guess I could live with this problem if it wasn't for the fact that I don't have any other inputs on my TV for sound other than HDMI. My other devices are using such connections. Basically, I'm left with almost a brick.
   
   Also, there's a sticker that says "if removed, warranty void" covering access to inside the case. So, if you were planning on using that extra PCIx slot, or upgrading to a bluray drive, or adding more RAM, etc... you can forget about the warranty. But it would seem that that's not much of a loss judging by what I've seen of their customer care so far.
   
   In short, this would be the perfect little HTPC, but Acer leaves a lot to be desired.



2. I've had this little computer for 3 months now without any problems. Vista is annoying and I wish I could 'downgrade' to XP but that would 1/2 the 4gig of Ram it came with so I'm stuck with Vista. Did not do the Bios update the other reviewer was having problems with so can't comment on that. All in all a great, fast, light computer that is hooked to my HDTV for couch surfing and Hulu video watching and its perfect for the task.
   Oh, yea, and the price is right!
