  1. Excellent laptop for the price. Great hardware combination, works really fast and stable. 4GB's of fast DDR2 800mhz memory, lots of storage space with its 320Gb HDD. It even has one combined USB/SATA port on the side so you can plug in external sata hard drives. The only thing i don't like about it is that everything is glossy, even the keys so it picks up fingerprints easily. All in all its worth the $850 i spent for it.

5 comments about HP Pavilion DV2840SE 14.1-inch Special Edition Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-60 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. I had to call HP support after multiple blue screen crashes leading finally to being unable to open Windows. Tech support tracked down the problem to a faulty memory chip. They are sending a replacement. This machine came with 3GB of memory. The 2GB chip is the one that went bad and is being replaced. I am now running on 1GB while waiting for the replacement chip. Performance is slower but no problems. I am satisfied with the computers features and performance and wouldn't try to talk anyone out of buying it. I think my problem is probobly a fluke.

  2. This comment I'm going to write in Spanish.

  3. I bought my new laptop a few weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. It's very fast because of the 4 gigs of RAM. Vista it's a little slow by default but I did some tweaks to the system and now it's very fast. Great buy, I'm 100% satisfied.

  4. The HP DV series PC are TRASH in my opinion. I bought the DV6226US in March 2007, and my System Board fried just 7-1/2 months later. They replaced it, and 8 months later if fried again - and HP wouldn't cover it. With the excessive heat no wonder! A system board crashing is rare but 2 boards in 16 months is nothing but defective product - pure and simple. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT

  5. Simply awful. A sales associate told me this was the best laptop they had (no wonder Office Depot is barely hanging on by a thread in Ft Worth), yet it can barely function as a vehicle for me to sit here and write a well-deserved one star review.

First of all when you minimize a window the screen still shows strong residual images of the previous screen.

Sometimes when i use the dropdown menu, the image of the menu freezes onscreen. even when I exit the menu, the drop down menu or part of it remains at about three fourths transparency in the forefront of the screen no matter what i do short of rebooting, even if i close the program.

Every time i try to type, the cursor goes completely berserk and i have to wait for 15 or 20 seconds before the mouse pad even allows me to find my spot again. Really sucks for anyone who wants to do things one might reasonably expect to do on a computer, such as typing, renaming files, using the mousepad, and working in various programs.

Not only is this a heart attack in a box, but the people who are running HP are a complete waste of God's protoplasm. If I could give this thing negative stars I would.

I never thought I'd say this, but I miss my old Toshiba. PS- Windows Vista is a complete waste of God's protoplasm too.

I hope the manufacturer did not go the extra mile to fireproof this money pit excuse for a high performance machine. It's starting to get very cold and I wouldn't think of burning any of my old used books to start a fire before I gave this piece of rubbish the honor.

  2. So far I've had my HP Pavilion tx2000 for about a month, and everything is working perfectly. I love the size and sturdyness of the laptop, it feels solid. It's the perfect laptop for traveling, or just hanging at the coffee shop. The finger reader is a plus, I use it to login to all my favorite sites. The sound system works perfectly, and the touchscreen is very responsive. The only con I have about the laptop is the fan, the computer tends to get a little hot when you're using memory intensive applications. Overall, I'm pleased and would recommend this laptop.

  1. My old PS (expensive Antec) crapped out on me and I needed another one for my kids computer. I was a bit leary of this cheaply priced PS. But I plugged it in and hooked everything up and it works fine. Packaging wasn't that great, but everything works fine. Granted, I don't have tons of periphials hooked up in the computer, just the basics for a kids workstation. But all in all it works great and you can't beat the price.

5 comments about HP Pavilion TX2110US 12.1-inch Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-62 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. I bought the HP tx2120us which was cheaper than buying the same components and features separately. I did a lot of due diligence before buying this laptop. It over performs and I'm extremely happy with this product. I suggest you buy this product.

    PROS
    - Extremely fast processor (I often have more than 5 programs running at the same time (Word, Excel, Outlook, Firefox, PowerPoint, Abode PDF and Photoshop) with no significant slowing in speed or freezing or crashing)

    - Large hard drive space (250 GB)

    - Tablet functionality is incredible (it's amazing how well the pen works and recognizes handwriting without training. In fact handwriting is more easily recognized than print. The free addition of One Note greatly enhances the tablet function.)

    - Fingerprint scanner (you can scan all 10 fingers if you want despite what some reviews are saying)

    - Feature rich (WIFI, bluetooth, 3 USB ports, phone & Ethernet ports, DVD burner, etc)

    - Size (The PC is just the right size for me. Not too small that the keyboard is difficult to use or screen hard to read. At the same time, it's not too large or heavy to carry)

    - Touchpad. (the pad is award at first but the dimples on the pad make the cursor easier to control)

    - Media (remote control, dual head phones and media playback is excellent)

    - Eye catcher (while this is not really important, it's definitely feels good when you pull out your laptop and others in the room ooh and ahh)

    - Vista 64bit ( I was concerned about Vista because of all the bad things i had heard about it. In addition I was worried about the 64bit version not working with my current hardward and software programs. Vista has been stable, fast and a pleasure to work with. In fact, Office 2007 works much, much better on my laptop than my Windows XP desktop. I only have one program that I could not load on the laptop. That's because the company hasn't written a Vista 64bit version yet but they claim it's on the way)

    CONS
    - Heat (as you do your research you'll notice everyone talks about how hot the battery gets. They are 100% correct. The base gets so hot that you can't leave it on your lap. I use a magazine or something else to place under the PC. I plan to purchase a cooler.)

    - Battery (the battery life if fine for me. But the battery extensions 1 to 2 inches beyond the PC frame. It's a weird design. However, on the plus side the extension works like a handle when using the tablet function and holding the computer in your hand. Especially because the PC bottom is too hot to handle otherwise)

    - Screen (the touchscreen has a film on it that dulls the screen somewhat. This a problem for some users, especially in sunlight. It a minor issue for me because the screen can be rotated to practically any position to avoid glare from light. And the screen dullness is minor)

    - Pen string (the stylus/pen attaches to the PC via a string (not really a string) that extends well beyond the PC frame. It often catches on things which pulls the pen out of it's socket. It's another design flaw. Please note that you won't lose the pen because it is attached to the PC by the same string that causes the pen to become dislodged).

    - Fingerprints (Another minor issue is that the stylist black cover is also a fingerprint magnet.)

    - Young look (Another minor issue is for business users the PC looks like it's for the younger non-professional market. I use the PC for business and personal use and don't care about this because I only care about functionality. However, as a fair reviewer I think it should be noted)

On sum, this is an EXCELLENT computer. I originally purchased this laptop for road and travel but I love it so much I use it instead of my desktop. Buy this laptop with confidence."

  2. Got a TX2110US model, AMD Dual core X2 with 3 gigs of RAM and the 250 G HDD and boy am thoroughly disappointed with it or what? Should simply have stayed with an Intel based Dual Core. This system produces a lot of heat (will literally burn off your lap, if you hold it as a laptop!) and not to mention the fan noise; far from quiet by any means and only gets a Vista Performance score of 2.4 and you will easily notice how slow it runs when running even simple video editing or Photoshop editing.

Performance scores reported in Vista are below:

Processor calculations per second - 4.8
Memory operations per second - 4.6
Desktop Performance for Windows Aero - 2.8
    3D Business and gaming Graphics - 2.4
Disk data transfer rate - 5.2

Vista seems to be worse than Windows ME with its intermittent "Auto restarts" and crashes, leaving one clueless most times. The HP Advisor program is the main culprit most times when it does leave a clue. The tablet drivers don't load up one or 2 out of 10 reboots.
(so much for using the tablet). The SD card reader quit in a month and had to mail the system for repairs. They had to replace the main board and ship back. After shipment arrived, there is a ding on the case! Now going through "Claims". HP customer service really sucks if you think Dell was bad! Do yourself a favor. don't fall a prey to its size and mobility. If you really need mobility, buy yourself a decent PDA. This can't stand upto the high demands of today's applications.

  3. What a horrible failure, if this was a human, it would be a bum on the streets for not working

    - it overheats excessively, will literally burn your lap
    - expect blue screen of death 2-5 times per week
    - EXTREMELY SLOW
    - HEAVY
    - Touch Screen inaccurate
    - it looks good on paper but acts as if its got half the performance it claims
    - Windows Media Center cant be handled and crashes
    - its quite loud
    - Fingerprint reader needs to read 4 times to understand who you are...
    - graphics card is horrible, but as is all on laptops

a bum on the streets if it were human - for not working.

  4. I have the tx2110us, purchased from Amazon, and there are quite a few attractive features that first drew me to this laptop/tablet, but after owning it for about 4 months now, I've found myself to be quite unhappy. So I'll go over the good stuff first:

    -Lots of RAM
    -Large HD
-Touchscreen and supporting software are very cool: software & hardware combination gets you a realistic tablet that is even pressure sensitive (the harder you push on the screen, the thicker the line gets)
-Swivel screen & entertainment hardware make for good portable movie watching
    -Built in wireless (a/b/g/n)/bluetooth technology
    -Webcam is neat
-Fingerprint scanner works reasonably well (handy way to keep computer secure, although it is pretty finicky at times)

Now onto my gripes and complaints:

First off, yes, the tx2110us does get hot--very hot... Hot to the point of overheating and shutting down completely, even if you're in the middle of something. I've sent my laptop in twice so far (I'm waiting for it to get back after the second time around), and the first time, they said the replaced the motherboard. Didn't work--still overheats. What's worse is they reformatted my HD, so I had to uninstall all the crapware (which there is a ton of by the way). I've changed the power settings as well, which is what the some of the reviewers have suggested, and it still overheats. I can only hope that the geniuses at HP can figure out a way to solve this because it's getting quite annoying...

Speaking of geniuses at HP, once you're tech support escalates into sending your laptop in for repair, they assign you a case manager. He tried calling me twice to get a confirmation that my computer was returned safely, and that was it. I then tried 5 times-- 5 times!!! to get a hold of him to tell him that the problem wasn't fixed. Each time I got someone else who said "oh he's busy right now, I'll send him an email to let him know you called" and I got nothing in return--NOTHING! I got so frustrated and angry.

My recommendation: if you keep this computer on "power saver" setting, delete all the crapware, you may be able to enjoy this computer with it's abundant features... For myself (and I do consider myself somewhat computer savvy), I would like to enjoy the performance characteristics of my laptop without a hitch, & if you're like that, you probably don't want to buy this computer because you'll spend an hour or more getting rid of the crapware & you won't be able to run it at "high performance" because it will overheat and shut down. I can only wait to see what kind of repairs they performed on it this time (which probably won't fix the problem).

  5. I have had this laptop for over six months now and i am really getting uncomfortable with it. At first I liked the rotating and touch screen, but the laptop produces so much heat that its unbarebale. I can't leave it on my lap for more then 15 minutes. The battery life is very short.

5 comments about HP Pavilion DV9810US 17-inch Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-60 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
  1. This laptop was a very large disappointment after the heightened expectations that developed after reading the product description and the reviews...I think the shills might have been busy on this product.

First, it is SLOW. This may be more a Vista problem than a HP problem, but it is slow. The Dell 1505e (1gb mem, 1.6mz Intel Dual Core) that I replaced with this ran XP much faster than this runs Vista. Booting and restarting from sleep takes forever and every screen change is an opportunity to do something else while it loads.

Second, the NVIDIA card is a complete oversell. The gaming graphics card is the "weak link" responsible for the 2.5 Vista Experience according to the Vista analysis. I bought a few current game titles just to take a look, GRID and Battlefield 2 and they simply overwhelm the machine. GRID, a Vista game, simply won't load, even after all the processes are stripped and the graphics are dialed back. It is like playing under a strobe. Battlefield2 is a few years older and still plays in stop-action.
Finally, and most surprisingly, the 3 media players included (maybe more, I stripped out alot of the crapware)barely play without stuttering. PowerDVD, my preferred media player for years, barely functions, and only after, again, all the non-critical processes are stopped. After a little investigation I learned that these titles require a Vista Experience rating of from 4.0 to 5.0. Again this machine has a 2.5 rating based on the NVIDIA card. This was very surprising and very disappointing piece of information.

In sum, if you are looking for a machine to surf and spider solitare on, then this would do just fine, but it seems that you could find another alot cheaper to fill that bill. If you want the high performance that this machine promises, I'd keep shopping.

  2. After the initial excitement left and I started loading various products and upgrades, I'm still impressed with the HP's capacity, performance and capabilities. Video streaming has been working well, easy link up to my home router and cable broadband. Been studying the TV links - what was included and the product called Slingbox. Played a few regular DVDs and all has been working as advertised. Minor criticism on the right shift key size but I can see it was a design choice that had little other options.

  3. I purchased this system in January of '07. It had always given off a lot of heat so I purchased a laptop cooler. However, it still ran very hot.

One day, I realized that it would not close all the way. When I opened it up, I realized that the plastic bezel around the screen had expanded from the heat and actually split apart. I call HP technical support and even though it was still under warranty by one day, they said I must have damaged it because "it was impossible" for the bezel to come apart like that. They said I could send it in to be fixed but it would cost 700.00 to fix the display (the entire system had only cost 1000.00).

I called back another couple of days later and they said they couldn't help me since the laptop was no longer under warranty.

HP had always had a reputation for solidly built PCs. However after the problems I had with this system and the lack of sufficient support and the actual rudeness associated with tech support basically accusing me of lying, I will never by another HP computer system again.

The brand and the construction has just gone way down hill and there are many better alternatives out there -- including Lenovo (stick to the thinkpad series) and the Acer line (which I have a new respect for -- they seem to be built as well as the older HPs and are a lot cheaper)

  5. So... this thing is beautiful. When it is working, it is a wonderful thing. But then, sooner or later, you will notice the laptop getting hot from the bottom center area. The you will notice applications getting hard to open up and taking time. Many programs like the internet or media player will show you "failure to respond" notices and close. Then...your harddrive will fail. you will be unable to retrieve any info. HP's customer service is pretty good. Within 10 minutes they were able to figure out that the drive died and were already setting me up with delivery for a new HD. (mind you- this was within 6 months of owning it.) Unlike Dell, they do not send a technician free of charge to your house. They have you call them for instructions. Second, they demand your credit information and threaten to bill you if you do not send the broken Harddrive to them within 3 days of recieving the new one. Now, seems like the new one is doing okay so far. media player doesn't crash like the old HD did. But, I am noticing the underside getting hot now. I have my laptop raised on vitamin water caps on all four (works, trust me) and have a small desk fan run cool air underneath. One thing, i upgraded the Norton antivirus program it comes with after 60 days to Norton 2.0 360. Not sure if that may have caused the crashes or not. only time will tell. I wish I would have bought a Toshiba or Dell. Save your money or buy extended full waranty. trust me.
