3 comments about AMD ATI Radeon X1300 Pro 256 MB AGP Card.
- I like the graphics in all my games alot better now. It's alot better card than I had before and I noticed a huge difference in all aspects of my games.
- This card is excellent!... good price, I'm a gamer so a run a lot of games on this card.. no problem at all. I play DVDs no ploblem, easy to install.
I think that this video card is for the next level gamer... for some games.. an ATI 9250/9550 is not enough, so.. you need this card!
- This ATI X1300 is a great graphics card. It has a great performance for gaming. I play Half Life 2 at very high settings (not full, but still high), and Halo 1 at full settings. I recomend this card because is really affordable and has a great performance.

5 comments about HP Pavilion DV6810US 15.4" Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-60 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
- It works perfectly and it is exactly what we wanted. We really like it!
- Strengths:
Screen = Large Widescreen 15.4 in; Battery life = Long; Remote control for watching movies; Smart touch-sensitive multimedia controls; Good speakers; Dual audio outputs; Bluetooth and infrared connectivity; Multi-card reader; PRICE = REALLY LOW $600 after $185 rebate at Office Depot!
Weaknesses:
HDD = Small 160 GB; OS = Occupies too much memory Win Vista; USB Ports = 3; Win Vista does not come on a reloadable CD/DVD; No webcam.
After surveying more than 10 medium-sized compact laptops, I have come to the conclusion that this is the best available at this time (June 2008) in its class.
Sony's were a definite No-No because of their cost factor. Gateway, Acer and ASUS were on the other side of the cost spectrum which worried me! I have used 3 DELL laptops till now (and they have all been pretty good), so I wanted to try something else. Toshiba and HP were left to fight it out!
My minimum requirements were:
1. At least 250 GB HDD.
2. At least 2 GB of RAM.
3. At least 15.4 inch screen.
4. At least 1.6 GHz dual processor, preferably AMD.
5. Infrared/bluetooth connectivity.
6. DVD burner
The DV6810US met all the requirements except the HDD one.
At 160 GB, the HDD is SMALL! Especially with Windows Vista hogging so much disk space, you can feel the need for additional space. I still decided to go for this one because I have a spare 500 GB external HDD. I use the external HDD to store my multimedia files. The laptop HDD will be primarily used for loading software and temporary storage. Do keep in mind that the external HDD will take up one of your USB ports!
Although, I was looking for anything that had 2 GB or more RAM, I m glad that I bought 3 GB. I strongly recommend at least 3 GB with Vista. Again, although Vista looks smart and has some cool features, it eats any amount of memory you give it! So more the better.
The 15.4 in widescreen with the cool remote and touch-sensitive multimedia controls is one of the best things a multimedia buff will enjoy on this laptop. Watching movies, viewing pictures and playing music is as easy as 1-2-3. Now although, there are 17 in laptop screens out there (and all that real-estate can be pretty useful to artists who edit photos and movies), the factors to consider are cost, weight and portability. DV9810US gives all the same features of a DV6810US on a 17 in screen, and the cost-difference in Apr 08 was only $150. I would have gone for it in a heartbeat had it not been for the weight and portability aspect. A 17 inch laptop will barely fit on the tray-table of an economy seat in an airplane!!! It also consumes that much more battery! And if you don't need 17 inch worth of real-estate on your screen 100% of the time, I would rather buy a 20 inch flat-screen for around $200 and sit it on a table at home!
The DV6810US is powered by 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor. Though this is on of the faster processors in the market, Vista seems to slow it down (Only if Microsoft could have gotten out a better OS!)
I often connect my cell-phone to my laptop using infrared. This was a decisive factor when choosing between this one and Toshiba A205, A215 and P305 models. All of these are slightly superior to DV6810US on some other factors but lack infrared connectivity.
The Toshibas also lost because of the LabelFlash technology they used in their DVD burners. My study showed that HP's LightScribe was a better technology because of the availability of media and performance.
Most other laptops in its class feature a webcam, while this one does not. Again, I already had a good Logitech webcam, so I dint care a lot for the in-built one. Although, it will take-up another of your USB ports, it gives your more portability without having to move the entire laptop.
The weaknesses like only 3 USB ports (against 4 in some other models) and lack of webcam are pretty small, and are heavily outweighed by its strengths. The other OS related problems are inherent to Vista, and I believe would come with all laptops.
The other laptops I considered in my study were...
HP DV9810US
HP DV9820US
HP DV9830US
HP DV9720US
HP DV9730US
HP DV9740US
Toshiba Sat A215-S5848

- I haven't had the HP Pavillino DV6810US for long, but so far I love it.
It was incredibly easy to set up & very user friendly. The resolution is incredible. I love this laptop.
- I just got this computer but I wanted to point out a few features that don't seem to be listed. There is a built in webcam and microphone with the computer, which I haven't explored yet but look forward to. For security purposes there is a fingerprint reader so only you can log in to your computer, if you choose to set it up that way. If you go to the HP website you can get a detailed, printable list of everything you might want to know about this computer. Also, to make a label on a CD or DVD using LightScribe you need to buy special discs made to use with LightScribe. That is only if you want to label using LightScribe, not to burn a disc. Lastly, even though I chose free shipping, I got it very quickly.

5 comments about HP EX475 MediaSmart Home Server (AMD Live, Windows Home Server, 1 TB Hard Drive).
- This product achieves most of my objectives for a home server. My priority was to back up all my data from several computers and external drives and to be able to access that data remotely via the internet. The internet server feature was key for me. I didn't need just another external hard drive. I found it a little confusing to set up but telephone tech support finally got me going. I also think that the ability to download add-ins to the server will be useful, althought I haven't yet tried that. I hope some of the add-ins that are available or will be available soon will relieve some of my disappointment with the limited user controls and limited user interface to the operations of the server.
- I was looking for a way to reliably back up several home computers. I don't really need (or want) remote access. I have on my "to do" list consolidating iTunes libraries into one location, but that isn't a priority, so I haven't gotten that done yet. By default, it sets up some "shared" folders on the network which could be useful. We "share" the family calendars, but don't bother with most other stuff.
Bottom line ... it just works!
Plugged it in, and after figuring out that I had a dead port on my hub, it was up. I installed the software on the first computer, answered some pretty trivial configuration questions, and forced a backup. About 3 hours later, it was done. I cycled through the other computers in the house and they backed up just fine. It automatically backs up everything between midnight and six am (the default -- trivial to change), so I don't care how long that takes, but looking at the logs, it seems to be about 15 minutes or so. If it goes for five days without a backup, it nags.
I created a couple of test files, let them backup, then deleted them to test recovery. Recovery was a snap. I'm not sure how easy it would be to find a file that disappeared "sometime last month", but that's always a problem.
- I was using external hard drives to backup my media files, but juggling 3 or 4 different hard drives at a time became a real hassle. With the media server, I had it connected and working within minutes.
I now backup my computers on a nightly basis and I can access my media files from anywhere on the net. I couldn't be happier with how this purchase worked out!
- I just finished setting this great new little server up for my home network and things were going great. Installation was a snap and easy and as you install software on each new machine on the network it adds them to the automatic backup routine. That is where it blew up today after working great four days. I had six systems in our household set up over the last few days and as promised the server automatically was backing them up at night. Love it.... until today a big red warning popped up saying Network Health Critical and the Backup Server Was Not Running. I clicked on the link to how to fix and went through the steps and it did not fix it so I called HP Support. Here I learned the only fix was to click on the DELETE ALL backups button in backup settings and reset the backup server process. I said what???? There is no reason this just popped up on my screen it stopped working and the only resolution is to wipe out all my backups of the six computers. I was shocked and said that it is impossible to rely on this product then as my backup system and that is a major feature of the server. He acknowledged I was right and said he understands an upcoming update of the software will make it more reliable..... Great so don't buy this and think it will give you a reliable backup. Keep your existing backup routine until at least the first update in software after July 10th! Otherwise, I love this thing. Having a simple photowebserver and internet access to my files is super. Of course you have to sign up for a webaddress for an extra $10 a year and then be the manager and set up access accounts for all you want to be able to get to your files or photos or photo albums. Oh year, if you want to get directly to your computer my docs files you must be running Vista Ultimate or Business or XP Pro which I never new until I bought the machine. Thats Ok because I set up a filed folder on the server for my user account and called it My Documents and think keep in synced with the My Docs folder on my computer. I can access that folder from the internet when travelling. So this is a great new tool for us with home or small business networks, but it is new and still has a bug in the backup area so that feature is not reliable yet. Otherwise, having one terabyte of data available to everyone in the house and over the net when I want it is fantastic. So not a five star yet but I would buy it again even without the automatic system backup feature that blew up today for no apparent reason.
- I bought this unit the first day it came out. It's small, quiet, easy to set up, easy to update. You need a CatE5 cable to effectively back up data through a gigabit card. If one hopes to do it over a wireless router it will take a long time.
I mainly purchased it for music, to combine music from all three pc's and both back them up and keep them central for playback. That works. I wish there was more control over which files to back up on each of my drives. I also wish that both my pictures would back up automatically and into the picture folders. They don't. Overall I love the idea and the execution of this little server. I'd buy it again.

- used on the Intel Q9450 it works great the only thing it was kind of hard to get it on mobo. definitely worth it
- I have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 with a sustained overclock of 3.0 ghz with absolutely no problems. The installation can be a little challenging with certain motherboard and case combinations because of its size, but its well worth the effort.
- It's a monster no bout about it, went with another users recommendation to put the cooler on the mobo before putting the mobo in the case, it is easer this way, trust me. Very Quiet, you should have a substantial case for this bugger, you'll need one as I found out the hard way my older Mid tower wouldn't accommodate the cooler. I got the Thermaltake Armor VA8000BWS ATX/MicroATX/ExtendATX/BTX Full Tower PC Case (Black, this case may be over kill but I was really impressed
- I installed with Arctic 5 Silver paste and I have noticed a significant (9 degree celcius) drop in temps on my processor. Worth every penny and I caught a great sale for under $40.
Highly recommend - but a bit of a bear getting it in.

5 comments about HP EX470 MediaSmart Home Server (AMD Live, Windows Home Server, 500 GB Hard Drive).
- I've had HP home server for about 6 months. All of the computers in my home automatically backup to the server every day. Yesterday, my daughter dropped my wife's laptop and the HD is now toast.
My wife had important work data on the computer so was very anxious about the probability of recovery. Having been through this before with other backup devices, I wasn't terribly optimistic.
However, I replaced the drive, plugged the laptop into the network and booted off the WHS recovery disk. I then asked it to recovery my wife's computer from the last back (which was from the day before) and went to bed. This morning I got up, rebooted my wife's computer and its back just like before!
Right now everyone is happy. This is the first time I've had a backup system that just worked. This server deserves more than 5 stars. I couldn't ask for a better disaster recovery experience.
- I purchased the EX470 primarily as a server for music and video. But, in the last two weeks I had the need to restore a laptop that would no longer boot up due to a damaged boot sector. And, I wanted to restore a program on a desktop computer that had ceased functioning even after reloading it. In both cases the EX470 worked flawlessly. The laptop was completely restored and is working without any errors. The desktop software was restored to its operating environment prior to the software failure. Even Microsoft's Restore couldn't fix what the EX470's PC Restorer was able to do.
By the way, the music and video serving is meeting and exceeding all my expectations.
- first experience was misleading; inserted the CD, the autorun tried to run but the program was corrupt, instead manually ran the setup.exe and everything worked fine. Typical Microsoft experience, first, it downloads a whole load of patches and corrections, afterwards, the famous reboot, you are then presented with some setup options. Easy to configure, straight forward for any IT aware person. Nice interface for the user, was setup in a matter of minutes.
Shame there is no hardware RAID, it says you can mirror specific folders onto different disks, but I still have yet to discover how this works. Quiet..and ...discret.....I think I'll like it!
Also of note: way too much packaging of the device, outlayer of carboard packaging with a inner box of carboard. (this excludes the carboard box of Amazon).....far too much carboard used in todays "sustainable development" culture. As well, a hefty printed manual that alot of people will hardly ever use, ideally this whould have been included on a CDrom as a PDF. Wake up HP! How many '000s of units are you planning on selling?
- Most computer manufacturers are scared to release anything that won't sell. I'm sure this will not be a core HP product, but at least they released it! The main purpose(s) of this product are to:
Backup all your home PC's
Remotely access them via the web (You must run XP Pro or Vista Business on your PC's for this to work)
It works perfectly as described. It is extremely fast to backup a PC, does not use a lot of resources, and remote access is a dream come true if you have multiple PC's in your home.
There are no drawbacks. For remote access, you do need to read the instructions. Chances are, you will need to forward a port on your router. It's extremely simple, if you read the destructions!
A+ for you HP, thanks for releasing a great product!
- Beautiful product! Simple to set up and configure - rock solid. Surprised a Windows product can be this good. Adding drives, remote access - no problem. Kudos to HP. Apple is no longer the only user-friendly product in town...

5 comments about HP Pavilion DV2840SE 14.1" Special Edition Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-60 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
- I like the shape of this laptop but the shape is not every thing, i bought 5 laptops of the same seires and all of them have the same following problems:
1- HP DV find it difficult to communicate with encrypted wireless router .. i konw it is a windows vista issue but i face this problem in HP more than Toshiba or Acer.
2- The mouse and keyboard sensitivity is very bad, for example if i want to write www.amazon.com i discoverd that i only print ww.aazo.om with a lot of letters gone.
This was the major problem in HP DV Series and the overall system is good.
- At the discounted price of $900 as of mid-June + the $50 rebate, this laptop was a great value, and still is at $1000, though I would recommend waiting a bit for another HP discount to pop up this summer. The design and structure of the laptop and very slick and hip. This laptop was built and is marketed for entertainment, so I would recommend it for any families or students. 4GB of RAM is a nice boost to system performance, and the 250GB (219GB usable disk space after partition + OS) should be plenty for most users, but if not, fast external storage is getting pretty cheap these days. The screen is fantastic and the quad-band (?) is plenty fast. Overall, its a great machine with high performance for most entertainment applications. If you can snatch it for $900 or less, depending upon what rebates/coupons HP throws out there, it's a fantastic value.
- I had to call HP support after multiple blue screen crashes leading finally to being unable to open Windows. Tech support tracked down the problem to a faulty memory chip. They are sending a replacement. This machine came with 3GB of memory. The 2GB chip is the one that went bad and is being replaced. I am now running on 1GB while waiting for the replacement chip. Performance is slower but no problems. I am satisfied with the computers features and performance and wouldn't try to talk anyone out of buying it. I think my problem is probobly a fluke.
- This comment I'm going to write in Spanish.
- I bought my new laptop a few weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. It's very fast because of the 4 gigs of RAM. Vista it's a little slow by default but I did some tweaks to the system and now it's very fast. Great buy, I'm 100% satisfied.

- Bought this item a few months ago and has been working flawlessly since. Runs Apps and Games no slow downs whatsoever, best dual core processor from AMD.Able to run COD4 and a virus scan at once,no complaints.
- As the title reads, it's very fast and cheap, but power hungry. No heat issues. Remember to have a good power supply unit (at least 500W), specially if you have to feed many internal devices.
- this is a great upgrade for those with a x2 mother board and want more speed, better gaming, and better over all system performance with out changing the mother board... the cpu is easy to install... the cpu does come with a new heat sink, although i recommend buying a better one, as this one blows the air down onto the mother board and around the cpu... i think that is counter productive. after i intalled a new cpu cooler i have noticed no heat issues at all.. the cooler i am using is SilenX iXtrema Pro 92mm Triple Heatpipe LED Alum CPU Heatsink (Socket 754/775/939/940/AM2 as well i recommend artis silver thermo grease.
- This is a great CPU for the price. I was originally going to buy an Intel dual core, but I had no idea they were $200-$300. So I looked at some of the AMD cpu's, and saw this 3.0GHz for $113. So far no problems, runs great.
- This is a great processor. The price is even greater! There are many faster processors on the market, but the price makes this one plenty fast. The only issue I had was with my ASUS motherboard BIOS, which had to be upgraded before things would work. During boot, if your BIOS needs to be upgraded a message will be displayed. Follow the onscreen instructions.

5 comments about HP Pavilion S3400F Slimline Desktop PC (AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core 5200+ Processor, 3 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium).
- Great so far. I've been running this PC for about 4 weeks. I like that it's small. It runs well. No complaints so far. Great value for money.
- Great computer!
Wow this is so much nicer than my previous computer which was state of the art a few years ago but had become impossibly slow. This machine works fast and its so small.
I haven't figured out how to use everything, but what I have investigated is pretty cool. Plus, the ad lists that it comes with 3GB of RAM but actually comes with 4GB. The graphics card is something that might need upgrading; if that's important to you you may want to look at another version of HP.
Shipping was nice too. [...]
Perfect!
- Processor, RAM, hard drive capacity, video & sound cards certain to meet most requirements, even those of modest gamers or video hobbyists. Compact case fits nicely right on your desktop.
Transition from Win98SE to Vista was an exercise in surprise. Bottom line is Vista works fine, and the Premium Home Edition is worth it if only to get the cool 3D Chess game.
Included software bundle & HP system utilities are what you'd expect- nothing special to worry about- and all removable/ replaceable as you see fit.
Everything worked right out of the box. What's not in the box though are things like adapter cables for your sound system or DVD's to make system disks. Visit HP's site for info on this stuff.
- I am enjoying my HP Slimline. I love that is is smaller is size yet much bigger in every other way, than my old PC. I was worried after hearing all the neg about Vista - but I love, it, too. I don't know why most don't - sure it takes some getting use to but it's snazzy. Excellent PC for the price. After researching online and reading reviews - I'm super happy I went with this one! Bought it at my local Circuit City tho - on sale!
- I believe you will be pleased with the size and performance of this PC. Set up was easy, quick and efficient. Vista runs smoothly and your display is enhanced. The price can't be beat.

- This labtop is good, but please be aware that it won't allow you to downgrade the operating system to windows xp, or linux or ubuntu. And the problem is not the typical SATA drivers needed for a windows xp installation, the problem is that HP simply disabled the sata options on the BIOS and the xp installationwont even reach the point where is tell you no hard drive is found.
So unless you're willing to only be able to work with vista, stay away from this product.
- I personally don't have a problem with Windows Vista and thus can't default the computer as did the previous poster. In fact, I find Windows Vista networking so easy that its a joy to work with compared to that of XP. How hard can it get, I turned this computer on clicked network and there were my other laptop and my desktop all ready to go. Installing a network printer was also a no brainer; I selected network printer, Vista found the two networked printers and installed them both. Everything I want this computer to do it does well and fast. Other models in this line are supposed to run hot but so far this doesn't run that much hotter than any of my other computers. I'd recommend it to anyone that is looking for a small laptop/notebook type computer. I'd also recommend Windows Vista.
- A very good price for a more than adequate Tablet PC. It does not excel in any category except price, but it does not have any glaring weaknesses. It does have a tendency to run slightly warm, especially when placed in Tablet mode where ventilation is more obstructed. of course, I have only owned my PC for a few hours, so this is a first impression.
What prevents this from receiving 5 stars is the bundled software. I received no office productivity software except for trial editions. I expected a word processor and spreadsheet program, given the nature of this machine.
- Pros:
I think this system is probably the best deal you'd get in a TabletPC.
The top-notch Wacom 'Penabled' tablet hardware is a real nice bonus, because it supports pen pressure & it has an eraser.
The Fingerprint Reader is a real bonus, It makes me want to have one on all of my computers.
It comes with Corel Painter 4 Essentials, and Microsoft OneNote 2007.
It will play DVD-RAM discs that my Panasonic DVR creates -- Nice surprise.
Cons:
The AMD processor is not as good as the Intel Core 2 Duo, but you are paying a lot less.
The battery protrudes from the back, and the screen is smaller than the base.
I did a speed test with a friend, against a 2 year-old MacBook Pro (Boot Camp running Vista Business)
We compiled a very large software project. His was 25% faster.
Screen is glossy.
Remedies:
When I first bought this machine, I noticed that this thing would not stop accessing the hard drive -- It didn't make any sense to me. I thought Vista was at fault. So, I started out with the intention of getting rid of Vista. However, with a bit of research, I found that Vista was not the problem with this machine, It was HP's bloatware. Once the basic startup programs and services are properly configured, the system runs fairly efficiently. Vista also has the added benefit of tweaking minute details in how power gets used in their 'Power Plans'
- As an artist, what sold me on this PC was the fact that this second gen model of the tx series now offered a WACOM pen. Also, I wanted a small labtop for easy portability. I didn't want to lug around a 17 or 15 inch size laptop. This was the best of both worlds and to top it off, it's a solid machine loaded with features that work, like the finger print ready is the coolest!!! Works like a charm. My only two gripes would be that the machine does get rather warm (from the AMD processor?) sometimes hot along with the battery life isn't the longest but I usually plug it in with the cord. But otherwise I've had no other issues and it's been great for on the go and traveling. I personally enjoy the vista OS and have had no issues. It automatically does everything I need it to do along with prompting me to OK software use. Works like a charm.
