3 comments about The Greatest (1977 Film).
  1. I have always loved George Benson's work, but this is perhaps the most sensitive music I have ever heard from him. I have looked everywhere for this movie with no success. Give this music a listen; it's great!

  2. "The Greatest Love of All" and "I Always Knew I Had It In Me" are powerful examples of inspirational songs at their best. These songs match perfectly with the life of Muhammed Ali, the subject of the movie that this soundrack was created for. These songs are timeless. You could store them in your "classics" collection.

  3. ALIEN MAGIC (CD)

HOW UNFORTUNATE IT IS WHEN THE LEGENDS LEAVE. BUT ALLAH HAS A BETTER PLAN. THIS IS WHAT MAKES MUSIC LIFE, AND LIFE BUT A SPECTRUM.

Such lyrical Genius was the Magical Neurological Symmetry of Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Minnie Ripperton, Billy Stewart and Curtis Mayfield.
Like Men such as George Clinton and George Benson, there is a "ALIEN MAGIC" PERTAINING TO HIS Or HER EARTHLY VOICE AND PROPHECY THAT WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE EAR'S
AND EYE'S TO RECEIVE. ESPECIALLY SO in SPIKE LEE and JOHN SINGLETON FILM SCREEN WORKS AS WELL. I THOUGHT "SHE HATES ME" WAS A TRUE PRESENT DAY REALITY. YOU TO SHOULD
USE YOUR INNATE FLEXIBLE INTELLIGENCE TO RESPOND MOMENT BY MOMENT TO EVERY SONG SUCH GENIUS CONTINUE TO PRODUCE.
BE NOT KNOWN FOR CLINGING DESPERATELY TO ONE WAY OF DOING
THINGS, AND NOW'S NOT THE TIME TO START.
BE A PARTICIPATE OF THE "ALIEN MAGIC," such as that of "MUHAMMAD ALI;"
TAILORING YOUR APPROACH TO `DIVINELY' FIT.
Like Lalah Hathaway and Natalie Cole, this Magic very seldom comes along!
We do become "Stronger" as we "OUTRUN THE SKY."
We do become Stronger in Our Great Divine Faith.
    `News Flash Update!'
    P. Funk is the ALIEN MAGIC, and ISLAM is the Continued Way!
To be a THEOLOGY MAJOR is a full Discovery of ISLAM and
a Supernatural Straight Path Project leading us to the `Garden' of

5 comments about The Wild One.
  1. The Wild One. Among many movies with Marlon Brando of that time, a new movie image of a little guy looking big and tough was just another bore. To nurture such an image aimed at box office was commonplace at that time, always surrounding that image, Brando in this case, with top-grade super-talented and underrated actors. The Wild One would have gone unnoticed except for one big and important thing: the MUSIC, which said in every note what real jazz is all about. It's so real that it is still good even today.
I rate Jazz Themes from the Wild One five stars, or you can double that. I've heard lots of jazz in the last 50 years, and few records as Jazz Themes from the Wild One by Leith Stevens All Stars have lasted thus far. Definitely, it's because of compositions, and undoubtedly, the musicians of that time who knew and felt what jazz is all about.
Of 600 or more choice jazz records that I have, Jazz Themes from the Wild One is definitely among the top 10. Today, there are hundreds of jazz musicians that technically perform better than jazzmen on the abovementioned record. But only a mere few have the actual feel of what they are playing. I could say a whole lot more on the topic, and if you want to hear it, I'd love to hear from you. But I'm supposed to rate Jazz Themes from the Wild One.
It came out first as an EP with two 45 RPMs and four tunes by Shorty Rogers and his Giants. By '54-55, a 10-inch LP came out, this time with eight tunes with slightly different arrangements, and although more "polished", still with no significant improvement over the EP variant. By 1956, a 12-inch LP came out, Jazz Themes from the Wild One, with 12 tunes, all on Decca label. Each of these efforts was great and worthy of praise. The appearance of a CD which includes replicas of the 12-inch LP Jazz Themes from the Wild One with the addition of four tunes from the Shorty Rogers EP album was so welcome that I immediately ordered TWO COPIES of the same. I sincerely recommend it to all jazzmen.
I must mention that this CD is not the actual soundtrack from the Wild One by Leith Stevens All Stars which in the screen version included various percussion, string instruments, harps, french horns, etc. This record is, with all its tunes, a studio effort by jazzmen who took part in the original music score. However, and whichever way you look at it, this is real jazz at its best. It's a pleasure, a joy and an honor to review the CD Jazz Themes from the Wild One by Leith Stevens All Stars.

  3. I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS MUSIC ON A CD FOR A LONG, LONG TIME.IT'S LIKE FINDING THE HOLY GRAIL. I RATE THIS 5+ STARS. WHEN YOU BUY THIS CD - AND YOU MUST - ALSO RENT THE VIDEO. EVEN THOUGH THE DIALOGUE IS SOMETIMES "DATED," THE PERFORMANCES ARE POWERFUL. BRANDO IS BRANDO, AND THE REST OF THE CAST, EXCELLENT. THE MUSIC RAISES THE ACTION TO ANOTHER LEVEL, AND NEVER LETS UP.HOPE YOU ENJOY IT.

  4. After seeing this movie with my buddys, we all put balloons on
for our bicycle spokes and became the RRBC(Red Rebels Bicycle Club),named of course after Brando's BRMC.
When the 10' vinal came out (had Roger Short and Manny Shell
listed as two the arists on the back), I bought it on the spot and listened to it over and over well into my adult life. I am age 63 now and still I listen to this CD in my car often. This jazz is part of what makes me who I am ...to my very core. I have also purchased alot of Shorty Rogers and other bebop and West Pacific jazz of the 50's and love it all almost as much. But THIS music is most assuredly my standard for really good listening jazz.

  5. I was electrified by Leith Stevens' superb score for this 50's youth-in-rebellion classic. Unfortunately, release recordings for film scores don't always measure up to the scores actually featured in the film--even under the composer's direction. The selections on this album simply lack the wonderful anarchic energy and pizazz with which the movie itself rocked. I was also disappointed that some parts of the score, such as the meloncholy finale, were not even represented here. If you haven't seen the film, you may still enjoy this recording.

1 comments about The Commies are Coming.
  1. Honestly, this is a hard one to rate. What you've got here is a 1950's communist scare film, hosted by none other than Jack Webb of TV's Dragnet. So, you're taking your 1950's American life for granted? Well, what if you suddenly woke up in a town than looked just like yours... but was run by communists? "The classic paranoia film," the box calls it. There is an additional short about the meaning of the oath a soldier takes, with an apparently funny caricature of a Korean communist.

The biggest value in these films is purely historical. I really got a sense of the cultural atmosphere of the time, and of the moral reactions that drove people to make films such as these. I think they are necessary viewing for students of American culture of the period, or of American culture in general.

I can see how this could also be funny, and you probably already know if you agree. I myself didn't find it funny, and I'm I big fan of MST3K. The humor is, quite honestly, minimal. The production values and competency of the filmmaking are fine, even expertly done at times. There aren't factual inaccuracies or cultural misunderstandings of communism -- most if not all of the charges leveled against communism as it was in Russia are accurate. You might get some amusement from the idea that voting, going to town council meetings, and attending church is in any way to fight the communist menace. But that's about it. The appeal of this film is the unique atmosphere it creates, not the humor.

All in all, this is something you have to be in the mood for. If you love the style of 1950's documentaries, this will not disappoint. If you're looking for camp, though, you won't find it unless you think being afraid of communists is always funny.

5 comments about Cal Pozo's Learn to Dance in Minutes: The Basic Lessons.
  1. I really enjoyed the video. It helped me a lot with the basic moves I am learning in my dance classes. I seem to have two left feet in dancing. I'm more accustomed to competitive sports. Now that I know of other videos, especially Salsa Merengue and The Latin Dances, I'm going to purchase them.

  2. Although the video does have some of the very basic steps for some dances it falls short of teaching anyone how to dance with any real confidence. The video only gives the very basic steps, not enough to feel comfortable at any event where adults may be dancing. The video is not money well spent, even for those of us with two left feet! Use the money towards some group lessons; they are much more fun, inexpensive, and you'll learn a lot more.

  3. I would not recommend this video for people who pick moves up quickly because they are very basic but for someone like me who lacks any dancing ability, it has helped immensely. For those who have no coordination and would like some these videos are a good plac to start!!

  4. My husband and I want to learn to dance so we bought this video. It was great for someone like us who have little dance experience and who want to learn the basic steps. It didn't provide us with much we could use immediately on the dance floor but it did provide a base for us to start from. That is very important. Some of the videos and classes assume you know more than you do. We were very impressed and plan to buy more of his videos.

  5. Although I work out regularly with step and aerobic dance, social dance is a new beast to me. My husband and I watched this video separately and then got together to practice the steps. Cal is very supportive and friendly; he assumes you know nothing about dance and really does teach you the basics, which I would have trouble learning in a class full of other folks. Yes, folks, it's just a start, but it's a great way for rank beginners to get their feet moving. We're purchasing more of the series and recommend this video for those of you who want to dance at the weddings instead of sitting on the sidelines watching.

5 comments about Ragtime (1981 Film Soundtrack).
  1. I first came across this soundtrack when looking for Donald O'Connor songs - I'm a big fan of his, and I'm trying to track down all the songs he's ever recorded. It just so happens he has one of the most delightful songs on this soundtrack, "I could love a Million Girls". Apparently it's from a Disney film called Summer Magic, but I don't think Disney would approve of how dirty this song is if you think about it! Donald O'Connor was around 55 or so when he recorded this song, so his voice isn't as great as it was once, but he still does a fantastic job.

Now, onto the other songs. "Ragtime" (the song listed on the soundtrack) is hauntingly beautiful - it really captures the feeling and mood of the time, and puts you right back there. Same with most of the other "score" tracks. This is definately one of the best scores out there, and it's a pity it didn't do better. I guess it's almost ahead of it's time a little, considering this was the time period that gave us films like The Blues Brothers and other such early SNL comedies which didn't require scores like Ragtime needed. It really should've done better, but for now enjoy the soundtrack because I doubt you'll get another release of it!

  2. The excelent Milos Forman timepiece on the 20's based on the Doctorow novel has a marvelous musical translation in this soundtrack close to perfection. It gets the time and mood of the movie, and reflects its main dramatic moments. I would dare to say that this soundtrack is one of the finest coming out from a movie of the 80's. Besides, it sounds great in this digitally remastered version. Do not hesitate to get it. It's a real beauty.

  3. Beautiful music. It sets a mood throughout that is rather sad no matter what the words say.

  4. Since this stuff is sold out in Europe, it was good to find it at your place. Shipment etc. was all OK and meanwhile we enjoy the music.
    Thanks a lot.

  5. Newman's music is both rousing and plaintive. "One More Day" is worth the price of admission alone. Quite simply, beautiful.

5 comments about Strangeland.
  1. I just recently ordered this cd from amazon and received it in the mail on Tuesday. Well, it is now Saturday, and I can tell you, this is THE BEST soundtrack I own. It has great unreleased songs from Sevendust and System of a Down. And the Major highlight of the cd, is the VERY last Snot, song, Absent. This will probably be the song that you will think of from now on when someone says "Snot". Simply mindblowing. There is also a diff. version of Not Living by Coal Chamber that sounds more like their first album. Then there are the songsn that I already have: Serpent Boy, by (hed) pe and Eye For an Eye By soulfly. If you want a GREAT mix of metal, Strangeland is the way to go, also check out the movie, it too is amazong.

  2. Dee Snider picked one hell of a lineup for this soundtrack. Almost ever single track is good, excluding Megadeth, Kid Rock (the WORST track, and it's not even cause I dont like Kid Rock, it's just BAD), and Crisis. Sevendust's "Breathe" is a great track, and Sevendust fan should own this because it is one of their best songs. The Pantera track is awesome, but if you own the Pantera live album, then you already have this track. The rest of the tracks are all good, but the high point is definetly Snot's "Absent". Not only is it the best track on the album, but it even beats out most of the stuff on "Get Some". While it is sad that Snot is no longer together (R.I.P. Lynn Strait), there couldn't have been a better track for them to go out on. Every Snot fan should own this because of that song. Overall, I highly recommend this cd, because all fans of metal, old and new, can find something they like on here.

  3. hello! i personally think that this is one of the best soundtracks i own, however, there is only one disapointment i have. durring the film, when Carleton Hendrix was in the instituation, there was an interesting song playing while he was walking around and i have no idea who it's by or what it's called. if anyone has absolutly any information on this music, please email me at fuzzybubble40@hotmail.com

  4. this soundtrack is among the best compilations i own. actually almost every song is very good on here (exception: the twisted sister track and kid rock). it is put together excellent out of great old metal bands and some nu metal stuff. the highlights are the opening track by former twisted sister vocalist dee snider, breathe by sevendust (in my opinion one of their best songs), p&v by anthrax (a nice old-style metal song), absent by snot (their last and one of their best songs. probably the best on here) and last but not least marmalade by system of a down. the previous released stuff on here (soulfly - eye for an eye. (hed)p.e. - serpent boy, coal chamber - not living and so on) is pretty good too

  5. Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider put together a horror movie with mixed results, and the film's soundtrack is no exception. Combining more newer material from older bands and the at the time "up and coming" (now look them up under washed up) nu-metal bands, this soundtrack feels more like a sampler, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Dee Snider's moody "Inconclusion" is surprisingly good, while Pantera's "Where You Come From" (from their live album) and Anthrax's "P-N-V" are standout newer tracks from two legendary bands. Other standout cuts include Sevendust's "Breathe", Snot's "Absent", and a reunited Twisted Sister's "Heroes are Hard to Find", but the cuts from Kid Rock, Soulfly, Bile, and (hed)pe are nothing special. Also, of all the Megadeth songs, why "A Secret Place"? I can think of so many other songs by them that would have better suited this soundtrack. All in all, despite it's flaws, the Strangeland soundtrack is an above average metal collection.

5 comments about Good To See You Again, Alice Cooper - Live 1973 - Billion Dollar Babies Tour.
  1. i use to really like early alice cooper band stuff......

that is why i bought this dvd.... ends up this dvd is kinda retarded with some worthless wanna be acting and not only that by the time it actually gets to the concert footage the music quality isn't very good at all.... it's hard to hear the vocals and the footage is kinda grainy like most older movies......

i know this dvd was cheaper than most and that is why i bought it but next time i'll probably pass on it....

  2. This dvd was good but the plot that they put in with Herr Director was an annoying interference to the concert. apart from the interruptions every song it was a good concert.

  3. Amazingling the quality and sound is awesome for a live concert shot in the early 70's. Ahh yes, modern technology. Great for any old schooler who was in his party days growing up way back when. Brings back some fantastic memories. I received my order really fast.

  4. I LOVE THIS DVD![...]This is an AWSOME SHOW This is one of the FEW/BEST concerts I have ever seen. If you like Alice Cooper I can't imagine you not liking this concert. IMPORTANT NOTE!!!! Go to special features and select "play concert only" unless you want to be driven insane by the cut-ins of the off the wall crap throughout the concert. Sit back and be prepared to see where EVERYBODY ELSE [David Bowie, Kiss, Marylin Manson and so many others] got their ideas!

  5. Here are the BAD POINTS:

very lackluster performance - not hitting the notes, no energy

the audio sounds like the instruments weren't miked - just a couple of mikes pointing at the stage - very muddy, no presence.

the 5.1 audio mix is really poor and "far away" sounding

the skits are amaturish, stupid and endless!

    GOOD POINTS:

interesting to see Alice at this stage in his career

his commentary makes parts of it bearable - I still skipped thru a lot of it.

    BOTTOM LINE:

Don't expect much. it's okay to watch once. Try to get a buddy to buy it - then watch his copy.

I'm sticking with the studio production CDs. :(

5 comments about Batman: Original Motion Picture Score.
  1. What more is there to say about Danny Elfman's Batman score? It's one of the most popular and well-known scores of all time. Thousands of people have written their opinions of it. What more can I say? I can say how it affected me personally. It was the first movie score I ever bought, and it was brought to my attention from my dad when we watched the film together as he said "listen to this music in the opening credits Riley". Since then, my score collection has expanded 400 times, and my life and filmmaking career have thrived because of it.
What can I say, really? I can't continue to bore you with pointless anecdotes. I can say that this music is incredible and still in my top 5 of all time. It's Elfman's best work. It's heroic, it's dark, it's thematic (I dare you not to whistle the Batman theme when this CD is over), it's operatic, it's over-the-top, it's action packed, it's brilliant from start to finish. There isn't any wasted space on this album. Elfman has a job to do, and does it with rarely elsewhere seen success. He practically created this idea of a "dark superhero theme", and while the movie was a slight dissappointment, this CD continues to thrill people of any generation.
What can I say? This score is a masterpiece. End of discussion.
    cheers
    KZ

  2. I thought the Batman score was brilliant, although some of the music that they had from the 1989 movie wasn't on the CD. For example, the bit at the beginning when the boy and his parents got mugged in the alley way. Jack meets up with Eckhart. The Axis Chemical plan with boss Carl Grissham. And a few others that I thought should be good enough to be on the CD.
My favorite would have to be all of it, but track no. 17 would have to be my pick where the Joker and Vicky Vale going up Gotham City Cathedral and definately The Waltz (track no.18). I loved the Smiley tune that was not on the CD but in the movie where the Joker interrupts the news footage advertising his new Joker brand. That's tune's really fun to listen to. If you loved the movie, then this would be an ideal CD for you. Don't be dissapointed though that some music from the movie is not on the CD because it is still good to listen to.

  3. For anyone with even a passing interest in film scores, or even music in general, this is must-own. Danny Elfman's score for Tim Burton's first (and best) Batman film is, in a word, magnificent. Inspired, memorable, and moving, Elfman's score is easily one of the greatest soundtracks in cinema history. Although fantastic if listened to alone, the way this music is used in the film itself elevates what is other-wise a very good movie into a great one. This score compliments the film so well, it's frightening. The main theme is a perfect reflection of Batman himself: it's majestic and powerful, yet tortured and dark.

This gothic, elegaic score is easily one of the finest soundtracks ever written, and stands as a testament to the power and importance music holds in the world of movies. You'd do yourself a tremendous service to buy this soundtrack, and at this price, you'd be hard pressed to find a reason not to.

  4. I bought the soundtrack to "Batman Begins" a few years ago and really liked it. I considered it the best "Batman" score. Then, a few weeks ago, I bought Danny Elman's original score from "Batman". While I still like "Batman Begins" (I like Zimmer and JNHoward), I ask myself now, WHAT WAS I THINKING??? This score is vastly more complex and enjoyable.

  5. Hello everyone. I am an avid collector of film scores, especially rare or out of print promotional items. With over 200 scores in my collection, I know my subject well. Although I do not own a copy of the 2CD Expanded Score from Batman, it is still well-worth looking into if you are an Elfman fan....or just a fan of film music. Here is a track listing for the Expanded Score:
