5 comments about The Whole Nine Yards (2000 Film).
- I gave it 2 stars. One for each time I enjoyed the music. Ya know, I found the whole soundtrack singularly forgettable. Except for the Marshall Biddle Trio, w/Stephanie Biddle vocals. I have searched everywhere on the web and cannot find anything else about them. But I want to. I wonder if anyone out there does, and if they do, would you tell me? I want more...of them.
- Great movie with a great soundtrack. I do find myself skipping a song or two once in a while but for the most part this is great listening. If you like jazz and/or blues you'll like this.
- These days CDs that call themselves soundtracks are anything but, leaving out songs from the movie to make room for a bunch of crap that isn't (see my review of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, or for that matter, ANY review of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack). But here, the soundtrack to "The Whole Nine Yards" takes a novel approach: it actually features the music from the movie. ALL of it, right down to the cues that are barely a minute long. My favorites are "They all Laughed" and "That Mellow Saxophone." Also, this CD is worth checking out for anyone who doesn't already know that Bruce Willis is one heck of a harmonica player.
- I've seen the film many times, and it was great.
Ive listented to the soundtrack and loved it!! However i did not find the beautiful saxophone music in the scene where they meet in the clinic and "taking care" of the dead cop. If anybody has heard it please send me the name of the song(maybe its noy even on the soundtrack) Email:yarinh1@hotmail.comThanks Yarin
- Have just watched the movie "The Whole Nine Yards" and thoroughly enjoyed the whole shabang ! I've just ordered the sountrack and can't wait to listen to it , especially the Charlie Biddle Trio with his daughter Stephanie singing a great version of Gershwin's "They all Laughed".
After watching certain movies , I get the impression that many music soundtracks directly relate to the main stars eg. I've enjoyed most of the music featured in Bruce Willis movies , and also in Nicholas Cage movies which often seem to contain Sinatra / Dean Martin / Tony Bennet scores ??? Anyone else notice things like this or is it my imagination ? Do these stars have a big say re type of music in their movies ?
The movie (set in Montreal) and the superb jazz,,,,, a great plus for Montreal !!!!!
Enjoy..... Gareth (Perth -Australia)

1 comments about Offenbach: La Belle Helene; Orpheus in the Underworld; La Vie Parisienne (Highlights).
- Thank goodness that these well filled CDs of selections from three of Offenbach's most entertaining and tuneful operettas are available. Exactly the thing to provide some hearty nourishment for Winter nights. Ideal also for a Summer barbecue. In both cases, a glass of champagne, or at least some other bubbly beverage, would be good to have at hand - everything here no doubt will call for a toast or several.
It is so nice to be able to hear in these translations the witty words, sung with welcome clarity and meaning by these admirable artists. As I recall, there were no microphones in sight, and perhaps not even used, when this production of Orpheus In The Underworld was brought to Australia, with a few cast changes but the same sparkle as shown here. Crisp diction and lively, often lovely, singing - a great recipe for enjoyable listening indeed.
The recording sounds a bit shrill here and there, but what a churlish quibble; to Hades with such curmudgeonly qualifications! This is music to raise the spirits, and not just those from Hades.

- I must admit, this is an incredible composition,BUT, though certain tracks are INCREDIBLY MINDBOGGLINLY great, others are mediocre and sound like a soundtrack. Don't het me wrong, those certain tracks are definatey worth the pice of the album but don't expect to not hit the 'skip' button when listening.
- Tremendous movie, Tremendous soundtrack ! Powerful, gripping and extremely well conducted music that you just don't get to hear too much of anymore in soundtracks.
- This score is masterfully composed, allowing maximum emotion to be evoked from listener/viewer. The melodic main theme is almost hypnotic, mysterious, and sad at the same time. It searches for something concrete, which is resolved when in conjunction with the film. The piano is played beautifully, especially in the title theme, the most moving of the pieces, in my opinion.
- I love this cd the orchestra is wonderful the melody is to die for.
- I've been listening to this soundtrack almost continuously since I got it last month. I liked John Ottoman's soundtrack for X2: X-Men United, but this soundtrack is in another league altogether. The initial melody is haunting, and Ottoman sustains the themes well through changes in mood and plotlines. And his conducting cannot be improved upon.
I have a lot of soundtracks in my library, but this is one of the best.

- This is not music to listen to while relaxing. It is genuinely ominous and downright creepy in parts with great results. Composer John Debney utilizes a boy soprano, Theo Lebow, for the main theme, which is a 4 note motif that sounds a lot like something Danny Elfman would write. Debney also uses a Latin voice choir, a Tuvan throat singer, dudek, ethnic flute, ram horn, and a tibet long horn in the mix. Overall, the music is loud and massive with thick orchestrations and wall to wall sound. I have always liked Debney's action music and here, he takes it to great effect. "The Shooter", "Alley Fight", "Helicopter Pursuit", "The Beast Comes A Callin'", and "Subway Attack and Escape" are all knockout action cues with heavy brasses, racing strings, and pounding percussion. Tracks such as "Baptism in Blood", "Jericho Finds Faith", "The Eternal Struggle", and "Redemption" are ominous and very gothic sounding. The alternate main title is really weird and should have been left off the CD, as well as the dance mix. But, the score is great and is really, really dark and full of action.

5 comments about The Wedding Planner (2001 Film).
- I love this CD! I love this movie! You may call me old-fashioned, but this is the kind of music I listen to. I liked JLo's "My Love Don't Cost A Thing," although it was so different from the other songs. I've always loved Jennifer Lopez in movies and Matthew McConaughy was great! These are the songs (and the movie) that won't get old or boring quickly!
- If J Lo.'s "Wedding Planner" movie was the ideal Valentine's Day girls night (or afternoon) out movie, then this soundtrack is the perfect February pick-me-up from the post-V. Day winter blahs of the unattached and/or pining away. The songs are very female-oriented, romantic, and usually filled with optimistic longing.
My favorite tracks are the ones like these -- "Somewhere My Baby Waits for Me" - my personal favorite, very "sweep-you-off-your-feet" music and comforting hopeful words for any unattached hopeless romantic. "Adore You" - pop-folksy song that in any other context might annoy me, but on this CD it's perfect! "I Can't Help Myself" - a decadently girly crush song. Makes you think of pink candy hearts and nail polish to match! "We'll Find It" - an upbeat, fun, hopeful song that gives a small shot of energy to the slower pace of the CD "Plan on Forever" - not the same version as used in the film, but still a great song. I think it would have been even better, though, if J. Lo. had performed it. I also love the "Garden Conversation" love theme - very "hollywood romantic comedy" music, glittery, lots of strings, sweet melody, etc. And I love "Steve and Mary's Tango". The scene in the movie is great, and I don't know about you, but I find tango music to be intense and sensual and it somehow manages to fit together on this album nicely. Now I can't say I listen too much to the "Wedding song trilogy" (I honestly love you, annie's song, and a groovy kind of love) that often at all, but they are nice to have on there for novelty's sake! Overall, I recommend this CD, but be forewarned -- if you're not of the variety of unattached/pining hopeless romantic female with a soft spot for weddings and romantic comedies, you may not understand quite why I think so highly of it! If you are, however, be prepared to snap out of your blues and keep those eyes peeled for your prince charming....for "one fine day, you'll turn around and there he will be......"
- "Somewhere My Baby Waits For Me" Is The Reason I Bought This Soundtrack...And Is It Worth It!...Great Song By One Of The Most Underrated Singers Around!... I'd Give The Rest Of The Cd 4 Stars.
- The movie was absolutely romantic and sweet, so of course it needed a soundtrack to follow in its footsteps. The Wedding Planner soundtrack is filled with optimistic songs about finding and/or being in love, such as "I Can't Help Myself" by Nobody's Angel, a sweet ballad about puppy love. Also included is "Adore You" by Nikki Hassman, a song which is self-explanatory.
Bottom line? If you adore love songs, this is the soundtrack for you.
- Dan Finnerty covers "Groovy Kind of Love" on this soundtrack, which I believe to be the only recorded song from "The Dan Band", the wedding band you may remember from the movie Old School, who bastardize Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and Styx's "Lady", while making them completely awesome at the same time.
This alone might make it worth buying. Used. Cheap.

- From jazzy to rock & roll tunes, this is by far the best song compilation soundtrack I know of, and I have listened to quite a lot of soundtracks in my life.
A stylish movie gets a stylish soundtrack, and while some tunes are missing from this soundtrack, one has to commend the creators of this OST for putting 31 beautiful songs, capping an almost 2 hour listen. It does cost about double the price of regular soundtracks but it's worth every penny.
With Louis Prima, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Fleetwood Mac, Harry Nilsson, B.B. King, Otis Redding and many many other great artists of the golden years, one can have timeless joy every time this compilation goes in the CD player.
While it is a bit pricey, it is thoroughly recommended to anyone who can enjoy some good old jazz and rock & roll. Simply a wonderful collection of songs.
- Great choice of background music which helps set the tone and mood of the various scenes of movie. As the movie time line spans a number of years and genres of music, the choices were timely and evocative. The compilation can be used as a backdrop for entertaining guests during dinner party at home or low key gathering of friends. Selections have great variety and represents good cross section of American pop and contemporary music.
- This sound track is pretty good with 2 things that i will note and i hope some one will respond...
the seen where joe pesci is talking about tonys dogs shooting the bar up
where is that back ground music??
if some one knows that could the please respond..
and one of the last songs in the movie where every one starts to fall
house of the rising sun
that song is not the same on the sound track it is a diffrent version..
- FYI for what it's worth, on my copy, disc1 track4 is "I'll Take You There" by The Staple Singers, and bump everything after up 1 notch, for a total of 16 tracks.
- ..i noticed that there are no Rolling Stones songs on this. I'm thinking that if this did include the Stones, instead of paying $32.99 for the soundtrack, we'd all be paying $60 due to the licensing fees involved...
.just a thought.
..also, this cd compilation includes the instrumental version of "The In-Crowd", not the vocal version featured in the movie.
..I'm not complaining, mind you, because this soundtrack still rocks (and rolls)..4 Stars, hands down..
