5 comments about Trainspotting: Music From The Motion Picture.
  1. I finally bought this CD after putting it off for years. I mainly bought it for Underworld, but this whole CD is cool. I'm not into Iggy or Lou, but I don't skip any tracks on this CD. This came out in 1996, but sounds so fresh and relevant to today's culture. My least favorite track is, Lou Reed's "Perfect Day," and my absolute favorite is, Blur's "Sing," which barely beat Primal Scream's "Trainspotting." The track that A track that surprised me is Pulp's hilarious "Mile End." Brian Eno is always good, and "Deep Blue Day" will give Eno more record sales. Blur's lead singer has the last track called, "Closet Romantic," which is a more of an electronic song. If you like emotionally charged tunes then go get this album.

  2. When I started listening to this, it had been a year or so since I had seen the movie (which I liked), and I couldn't remember which scenes correponded to which tracks. Therefore I enjoyed it as a completley seperate work of art. When I re-watched the movie recently, I was almost dissapointed; the music actually seemed weakened in the context of the scenes. Don't get me wrong, Trainspotting is excellent, but the soundtrack stands indepedently and possibly even above it as a pop-culture watermark.

It's been observed that there's a lot of variance in the music, but I do think it's held together by a certain theme, a depiction of a way of life - squalor (Mile End, 2:1), desperatley sincere attempts to find some happiness or amusement (Lust For Life, Atomic, For What You Dream Of), an underlying and understandable sense of desperation (Sing and Perfect Day, the only songs which I thought perfectly matched their respective scenes in the movie), made bearable by the occasional glimpse of real, innocent sweetness (Temptation).

Taken seperatley, the songs are again very strong; there are great commerical hits like 'Temptation' and 'Born Slippy,' and more obscure but excellent tracks like 'Sing,' which I don't think can be found on any other album, but which I think is one of Blur's best songs, ever. The instrumental tracks are also good, particularly 'Trainspotting' itself.

  3. In a world where every other movie has it's own soundtrack, few stand out. This one does to me. Obviously a liking for the movie helps, but even without the film this is an excellent listen. A great mix of old and new, mellow and upbeat. I mean when you stick Iggy, Lou Reed, and New Order on the same disc as Brian Eno, Blur, and Bedrock.....well you can't go wrong. Still a great play ten years later, and should be found cheap anyplace.

  4. Its that simple. If there's ever been a soundtrack that goes so good with the movie this is one of them. Now you can relive Trainspotting any time.

  5. Easily one of the best soundtrack compilations ever put together. It's a perfect narrative for the forgotten, drug-infused, rock-bottom, greasy nightmare most of us have never lived through. In the end you'll have an incredible urge to rinse off in the shower.

5 comments about Pink Floyd - The Wall.
  1. i just really loved the movie. This DVD also let me see any of Pink Floyd's music videos for the first time.

  2. This movie just seemed to be completely unbridled, as if the creators had no thought whatsoever about anything but the creation. It feels like pure imaginative force, and it's really nice. Some people might use the term 'self-indulgent,' and I would agree. And I love it. I felt deeply absorbed in this movie, in the main character's mental illness. This movie is truly an immersive experience. If you're sick of movies these days, watch this.

  3. I first watched this video back in the mid-80's and it became a staple of my VHS collection. After VCR's went the way of the Dodo, so too went my Wall video. After rehashing my Floyd addiction, I purchased this DVD and am totally pleased. The special features are wonderful as they interview the producer, animation director and even Roger Waters himself! The packaging is great and it comes with a Wall poster that now decorates my bedroom wall. I highly recommend this DVD for any Floyd fan or anybody who likes to indulge themselves in a mind-bending trip into insanity!

  4. The Wall the movie sure was a strange experience! What is the movie exactly? It's basically a bunch of scenes attached together that fit together with the music from the Pink Floyd album. In other words, while the music is playing from the Wall album, you can see the lyrics from the songs matched together with the scenes on the screen. Most of the scenes involve a little school boy who appears lost and confused when it comes to family and school.

My favorite scene is the same one MANY people who currently hate, or have hated in the past, the dreadfully LONG hours (and days) of going to school and learning. Man, it really stinks to be a kid and have to do the same old routine day in and day out as far as learning and classroom assignments are concerned. In the movie, you get to see what going to school is like through a childs eyes, and how boring it can be.

Also, another highlight of the film was all the incredibly diverse and creative animation that fit in well with the music. A colorful tale and vision that was beautiful in every sense. It almost looks like an amazing drug trip. You truly have to see it to know what I mean. Worth watching!

  5. The film version of Pink Floyd's The Wall was released in August of 1982.
The movie did fairly well at the box office. It initially grossed $23 million which was alot of money back in 1982 considering it was competing against films like E.T., Rocky III and the first Poltergeist. I first saw the movie when my father rented this movie for me when I was 9 (I am not joking folks, this was in September, 1985 as I had been a fan for quite some time by then).
It is still a great film even today though some say too overdramatic. The screenplay was written by Floyd bass player/singer/lyricist Roger Waters amd the film was directed by Alan Parker (famed for the movies Midnight Express, The Committments and Evita) and starred Boomtown Rats frontman (and future Live Aid and Live 8 organizer) Bob Geldof in the leading role as Pink.
Originally, the film was to be footage of the band performing The Wall concerts at London's Earls Court but was scrapped at Parker's request (though this footage is available via bootleg in not bad quality).
The movie tells the story of Pink, a rock star whom had a traumatic life. His father died in WWII, had to contend with an overbearing mother, cruel sarcastic teachers, an unhappy marriage and a successful music career. One night after calling his wife and hearing she cheats on him, he invites a groupie into his hotel and loses it.
The character was based on part-Waters, part-Keith Moon, part-Syd Barrett and part fascism.
The film is noted for having the unreleased tracks When The Tigers Broke Free (parts 1 and 2), a new version of Mother, the studio version of What Shall We Do Now. Plus new versions of Another Brick in the Wall (part 3), Is There Anybody Out There?, Bring the Boys Back Home and Outside the Wall. Also, Bob Geldof does the vocals on both parts to In The Flesh (one with a brass band). The rest of the tracks were re-mixed and/or edited.
Gerald Scarfe's animations in this film are the same as the ones shown at the original Wall concerts Pink Floyd performed in 1980 and 1981.
This DVD (which was re-released with new artwork to coincide with The Wall album's 25th anniversary with a new slipcase cover and artwork) has bonuses of The Other Side of The Wall documentary as aired on MTV in 1982, the Another Brick 1980 video filmed to promote the album and aired on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and Midnight Special, the theatrical trailer and various other surprises.
    Highly recommended!

5 comments about Road House: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
  1. Being a Jeff Healey fan I just had to pick this album up.
Every song he does on here is just great! I'd have to say
that "When The Night Comes Falling" and "Roadhouse Blues"
are my favorites of the 4 cuts. I'd rank "Hoochie Coochie
Man" as my 3rd favorite. There are other good tracks on
this album such as Bob Segar's cover of Fats Domino's
"Blue Monday" sounds really well. Not as good as Fats,
but there is no shame in that=)

Also, we have Otis Redding a true legend. The Little
Feat song is also pretty good in it's own right. The
reason it doesn't give 5 stars is because Patrick
Swayze shouldn't have songs on here. I was tempted
to give this album 3 stars because of these terrible
songs. But Jeff is just to good and keeps it at 4
    stars.

  2. God! you missed the opening track from the Band Cruzados, music legend Tito Larriva(Tito & Tarantula)It's Don't throw stones!Very disappointed cause you can't locate that track anywhere.

  3. I have always loved this movie, lots and lots of reasons, but mainly because it has really great music! The Jeff Healy band is wonderful, and he does have some really great music out. I had never really heard him before this movie, but am a big fan now! Patrick Swayze also does a couple of songs in this movie, and I never realized before that he sang! This is a favorite, and some of the songs cant be found anywhere else!

  4. Once asked somebody why there are so many good Dylan covers, and was told that they're great songs to begin with. Same is true here. Best reason -- maybe the only reason -- to get this CD is Jeff Healey's Dylan cover.

  5. I was really pleased with this CD. The music is great and I love listening to it. Thanks so much.

She is a real top performer on any given day and her range of vocal ability makes her standout from so many other performers from the 1990's.

  3. if you like the film , buy the soundtrack

  4. I love the movie Animal House. I was looking for the soundtrack for a long time, and I was ecstatic when I found it on Amazon.com. I love listening to this soundtrack on my commute to and from school (NIU). It reminds me of humorous moments in the movie.

  5. I love the Movie and soundtrack. However, I wish for this version had the dialogue as separate tracks instead of part of the song.

5 comments about Madonna - The Immaculate Collection.
  1. The Immaculate Collection
For any Madonna fan, this is a must own CD. It contains all of her hits starting with "Everybody," "Holiday," and "Vogue." These are the original single versions and they still hold up wonderfully. Her great dance music and terrific arrangements are all in evidence. Hopefully, this CD will never be discontinued because it has remained a best seller for years.

  2. This is obviously very old news. madonna is a ho, she likes to ho, and is in charge of her own hoing. She has also inspired another generation of exploitative hos, and this is obviously all ok because she likes it (as, probably do they). Well, I for one would like to register the opinion that I DON'T like it, and that even if I did, I would not think that it should be brought onto the job. If she wishes to explore her sexuality, I believe it should be on her own time and preferably within the privacy of her own home. It is not interesting. It is not professional. And it is not all about her and what she likes. Thank you.
PS I would give it zero stars, but there are some good hooks in here. I would just rather listen to songs by professionals.

  3. As a youth hockey player who admired figure skaters (hotcha, hotcha), I've always been a big fan of music videos by the ladies, as they artistically express themselves to their own songs. (Imagine if Peggy Fleming recorded her own performance songs). And The Immaculate Collection is one of the top 5 video collections ever!*

Madonna, the Tonya Harding to Kylie Minogue's Dorothy Hamill, (and perhaps the top performer in history to publicly masturbate with a [...]) has a surprisingly good video set that earns an overall 8.7!

Here's how the 8.7 breaks down:

    Moves - 9.2
    Looks - 9.4
    Attitude - 6.0
Effort 9.5 (unlike smooth-as-silk Kylie, Madonna always looks like she's trying painfully hard!)
    ______________________________________________________________________

Averaged to 8.7! She's gotta be happy with those scores!

Let's flash back and take a look at Madonna's performance pieces:

    1. Lucky Star: Classic minimalism. And when Madonna is in such fine form, why let anything else get in the way? One of the top 10 videos ever.
    2. Borderline: Another classic performance! She nailed it.
    3. Like A Virgin: Uh oh! Break out the Lysol kids, Madonna's gonna get sloppier than a food fight on Nickelodeon!
    4. Material Girl: Hot Sass goes with lots of "Ice." Madonna looks ravishing. Stunning!
    5. Papa Don't Preach: Bad stumble! Madonna looks like a jaded 30 year-old playing a teen (where Kylie has always looked like a spry 21 year old dressing more adult). Doesn't work for me. Also, song and video has ambiguous message. (I'm not a fan of ambiguity... or messages).
    6. Open Your Heart: Bangkok judges love it, but thumbs down from this American.
    7. La Isla Bonita: Can't understand a word. I like Kylie's "La, La, La" better.
    8. Like A Prayer: The bad girl of boogie gets blessed bliss and elevates big time. Transcendental Art!
    9. Express Yourself: Expensive mess. Madonna doesn't need a bunch of sparkles to shine. Spartan "Lucky Star" is far better.
    10. Cherish: Surprise - Madonna can do upbeat and natural - and she smiles a lot! (She should really keep that up). Pump up the jam!
    11. Oh Father: Oh, costly fall! WAY too down-beat. I apathetically threw tomatoes at the monitor.
    12. Vogue: A bit fussy, but stylish and entertaining. High-brow pop, if you will. And oh yes, Madonna can still dance.
    13. Vogue (Live from the 1990 MTV Awards Show): Madonna takes MTV to a new level as the best looking Marie Antoinette in the video age (until Kirsten Dunst's 2006 role). This piece of cake is more "camp" than the Village People, but not as fun or 10-worthy!

    * 1. Ultimate Kylie (10)
    2. Kylie's Greatest Hits (10)
    3. Paula Abdul's Video Hits (9.6)
    4. Madonna's Immaculate Collection (8.7)
    5. No Doubt's The Videos (8.2)

Billboard Changed Cher's Tour Statistics To Award Madonna The Top Grossing Tour By A Female Artist.
The tours were different types of tours, Cher's tour had about 5 times more shows than Madonna's tour, and Madonna's top ticket price was about 5 times higher than Cher's top ticket price.

***I respect the fact that Cher chose to charge about $35 to $75 per ticket on her Living Proof Farewell Tour, and that Cher chose to extend her farewell Tour, doing 325 shows and leaving the prices low***

Ray Waddell Billboard Magazine 11-8-2003 -reports that Cher's Living Proof Farewell Tour played 200 shows, sold 2.2 million tickets and grossed $145 million, becoming the top grossing tour by a female artist. "Every place we could possibly put this show, we've placed it" says tour producer Brad Wavra.

Ray Waddell Billboard Magazine 5-28-2005 -reports that Cher's Living Proof Farewell Tour is the top grossing tour by a female artist, and that it grossed $194,683,927 selling 2,880,726 tickets from 280 North American shows that realized 90% of her gross potential and played to 92% of capacity. He goes on to report that the Worldwide tour had 325 shows and grossed well over $200 million.
**that leaves 45 "unreported" shows in this tally.

THEN CHER'S TOUR GROSS WAS CHANGED

Ray Waddell Billboard Magazine 4-22-2006 -reports that Cher's Living Proof Farewell Tour grossed $192.5 million from 273 shows and that Madonna's Confessions Tour has a gross potential in the $200 million range and could become the top grossing tour by a female artist.

Ray Waddell Billboard Magazine 8-12-2006 -reports that Madonna's Confessions Tour grossed $85.8 million selling 467,312 tickets from 34 North American shows. Madonna was aged 48

Nielsen Soundscan reports that Cher's "Living Proof" album sold 500,000 copies in the U.S, and Madonna's "Confessions on a Dancefloor" sold 1.6 million copies

  5. These videos were very nicely arranged in a very well organized fashion as you see Madonna from her earlier beginnings with her hair held with a rag, rubber bracelets, lace gloves, hanging crucifixes, cross earrings, and funky nail polish to the short haired Marilyn Monroe style with little or no jewelry, less make-up, diverse hair color changes (wigs), and even a Marie Antoinette costume for the last song (Vogue). It is evident to the viewer that Madonna transforms her persona as the songs progress.

The Queen of Pop presents herself with astonishing talent, diversity, drama, and at the same time lets her viewers know that everything she does has a meaning behind it. There are videos of all themes to enjoy from innocent or love ones like "Borderline" and "Like A Virgin" to sexy provocative one's like "Express Yourself" as Madonna is not fully clothed and wears a slave chain around her neck. Other styles to enjoy would include the sentimental ones like "Oh Father" displaying the pains of child abuse or the joys of life like "Cherish". For fans of the other eras you get to see Madonna wearing an identical dress designed for Marilyn Monroe in Howard Hawk's 1953 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in her song, "Material Girl".

Furthermore, Madonna displays her appeal to reach all her diverse fans as she wears a bolero jacket and Spanish dress for "La Isla Bonita" embracing some of the Hispanic culture--which would later help her in "Evita" and "Take A Bow".

An important thing worth mentioning is "Like A Prayer" as Madonna takes her strict upbringing to surface as she addresses interracial and religious issues that also show just how non-judgmental she is and how beautiful she is as a person as well as a super star. Even more meaningful to some, Madonna addresses other controversial issues like alternative lifestyles and even teenage pregnancy in videos like "Open Your Heart", "Vogue" and "Papa Don't Preach".

As you decide whether to buy this remember that the 80's was a time in Madonna's life where many different changes took place and despite her vast personas her fans always followed her knowing in their hearts she would be a legend forever.

*Mary Lambert directed the following videos: Material Girl, Borderline, and Like A Virgin. Jamie Foley directed Papa Don't Preach. Jean-Baptiste Mondino directed Open Your Heart. David Fincher directed Express Yourself. Cherish was directed by Herb Ritts. There are 2 versions of "Vogue" the last one being from the 1990 MTV Awards Show where Madonna is dressed as Marie Antoinette as a special benefit for AIDS Project L.A.

5 comments about The Big Chill - 15th Anniversary: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
  1. The mixing on some tracks is awful, and at one point, vocals are lost altogether on The Rascals track. I love this music -- the soundtrack of my college days -- so having it on one disc for traveling (I commute 50 miles round trip every day) is great, but the quality could be lots better.

  2. I reminded my friends as they listened to this in my car: Old School RULES. All of these songs have staying power, and all my friends end up jammin' to oldies when I play it.

  3. I grew up listening to this soundtrack! I love it!! I even found a copy of it in my parent's basement in vinyl!!

  4. This is the first of two soundtrack CDs issued for the movie "The Big Chill" (the other being The Big Chill: More Songs From The Original Soundtrack) and it contains the more prominent of the songs used in the film including:
"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" - this is the song played during the opening titles.
"Joy to the World" - this is the song played during the credits.
"Ain't Too Proud to Beg" - the song playing when the yuppies dance around the kitchen.
All of the songs from the film that are missing from this CD can be found on the other CD, mentioned above, with the exception of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" - the Rolling Stones song played at the funeral. This song is sorely missed from these soundtrack albums and its omission is apparently due to the fact that the Rolling Stones do not allow their songs to be included on albums other than their own. For people trying to obtain this song, it can be found on a number of Rolling Stones CDs including Let It Bleed [DSD]. Even without this song, however, this is still a great CD containing some of the best songs of the Big Chill era.

  5. Good movie - songs are from the Viet Nam era and the movie depicts the aftermath of college students of that era. I am one of them.

  1. This CD makes me feel like the movie is on, but I'm not watching but listening to it. It contains all the songs that were in the 2004 movie. Great music. I love it!

  2. I love the music, it gives me goosebumps every time! I never get tired of it. Great vocals, especially Gerry Butler, who didn't even have any professional training! Buy this CD!!!

  3. I ordered a used copy of the CD Phantom of the Opera. The music is fine however the case was in disrepair when I got it in that I could not close the lid properly however it was used and perhaps next time new is better.

  4. Phantom of the Opera was great. I loved the music and could listen to it forever. The new CD arrived in great shape.

  5. I only saw this movie for the first time a few weeks ago, and was absolutely blown away by the beauty of the music. My only other contact with POTO was the 1943 movie.
The music is wonderful, beautifully composed, and I say ths as a music major in college. I felt the casting was excellent. If I want Opera singers, I will go for Opera, but this is a musical, and I feel that The leads were excellent. Christine is a teenager, so the casting of a teen for the part was correct. And Gerard Butler was great. He had both a good singing voice and also interpreted the scary and threatning parts of the musical dialogue extremely well. Plus he was a very romantic Phantom, even the facial disfigurement did not detract from feeling that all he wanted was for her to love him. When she went off with the wimpy count (and he is wimpy in the book by Gaston Leroux too) I was devastated for the Phantom. When she came back to give him the ring, and he was crying and said "Christine I Love You', it was enough to bring you to tears. I also appreciated that the movie was clean, and presented the love in a pure light, which surely does not hold true for most of the trash you see today. It made the beauty of the Phantom's love even more poignant than if he had "ravished her on the spot" which is so popular in today's culture. I also plan to buy the movie. This one is worth listening to and seeing over and over again. BTW-according to the book, it is a true story.

5 comments about Pink Floyd - The Wall 25th Anniversary (Deluxe Edition).
  1. i just really loved the movie.

5 comments about The Phantom of the Opera (2004 Movie Soundtrack).
  1. The singers aren't as good as the original stage folks, and they should not have changed the arrangements of some of the songs. Other than that, the movie achieves complete mediocrity.

  2. I loved the play. I loved the movie. I thought I would love the soundtrack. Until the talking started. I cannot stand soundtracks that are too lazy to remove the talk...that is sheer laziness. It's being pulled from the movie instead of being done totally separately. How lame. So while the music is probably great...who knows. I'm completely distracted because of the talk. Please, please someone come out with a soundtrack with NO talking. It doesn't need it. I buy the cd for the music. I buy the movie for the talk.

  3. I saw the movie, and I just had to have the music to enjoy over and over. What an awesome sountrack this is. As you listen to the CD, you are taken back over and over into the story. Great Vocals, great compositions, and a sountrack collector's delight.

  4. The music is fantastic on this cd and after watching the movie, you can feel the music when listening. The songs, the singers everything about it is wonderful.

  5. The movie was quite moving, as was the music. Okay, I know NOTHING about opera, but in my honest opinion, all the performers gave very good performances. Emmy Rossum has the voice of an angel in "Think of Me". Gerard Butler offers a decent rendition of one of the most recognized songs of the movie/play, "Music of the Night". Just listening to the soundtrack, I instantly recall the scenes during which the songs were performed vividly. If new to opera, I'd say it's a fair introduction. But when has Andrew Lloyd Webber ever given us anything but his finest!!
