  1. I have been a fan of Anne Pringle since about 94 and I have to say she is easily the most talented local artist in Chicago. Mark and Anne's shows are fantastic. I purchased this album from Tower Records in Chicago on Tuesday and I have not taken it out of my CD player since. Anne Pringle's vocals are lush, polished, sumptuous, smokey and sensual. Mark's voice is the perfect accompaniment and his piano playing is brilliant. I cannot imagine these classics turning out better. The title song is addictive and "Heaven Down Here" shows off their range and intensity. If you are a fan of Linda Ronstadt's albums recorded with Nelson Riddle you will love this! Their sound is as classic as Billie Holiday and as Edgy as Fiona Apple. A must for any fan of husky, musky, jazzy, breezy, vocals blended with humor and heartache. It would be a tragedy if this does not send Anne rocketing into to stardom, FINALLY!

  3. One of those rare moments when your heart is moved to the depths of your soul that is the essence of what it is like to listen to the music Anne Pringle and Mark Burnell create together on their CD The Little Things We Do Together. What makes this Husband & Wife Duo so extraordinary is their authenticity; they live and breathe their music; the source of the songs that you hear comes from the secret center of the marriage of their two hearts. The first time I heard them sing "Heaven Down Here" I swooned at the beautiful harmony of their lyrical voices and was moved to the very core of my being. I was rendered speechless. They are such dynamic performers that anyone who hears them will think they have been magically transported to New York, but fortunately for us Mid-Westerners, it is a short journey to Chicago. I annually fly to Chicago just to hear them perform live! Anne Pringle's vocal style reminds me of a combination of Anita Baker and Judy Garland, the smoothness of R&B with the skillfulness of a veteran Broadway singer. Mark Burnell's piano rivals the legendary piano playing of his mentor Buddy Charles who incidently also joins them on the CD. You will cherish this album; it is not to be missed!

  4. With tunes like "Two Sleepy People," "The Masochism Tango," "Under the Boardwalk," and "The Tennis Song" you begin to wonder if "The Little Things You Do Together" is an autobiographical glimpse into the personal lives of Chicago jazz musicians Anne Pringle and Mark Burnell or just a really fine CD by the twosome.

As a pianist, Burnell is nothing short of brilliant. But it's his arrangements of the songs on the CD that sparkle. In particular I like how he's woven "42nd Street" with "Puttin' on the Ritz" and "Lounging at the Waldorf". The transitions between the tunes are seamless and clever. The up-tempo arrangement of "Blue Skies" is more consistent with the real theme of the song than other musicians that perform it using the slower, more traditional tempo. Not only do you want to sing, whistle, or snap along with Pringle and Burnell; but as the last cut on the CD it's sure to stay with you the rest of the day in a positive, upbeat kind of way. A great way to end a CD.

Pringle's voice has great flexibility and range. At times she uses it to convey this smoky, sultry quality that makes my heart melt like butter. In "Honeysuckle Rose" she milks that quality for all she can creating moody images of the song's lyrics in my head. Other times her voice is clear, upbeat and uplifting. Her ability to match her vocal characteristics with just the right song is not only dead-on accurate but brings a lot variety and even a few surprises to well-known tunes.

As you can see from the songs already mentioned, the CD has a lot of great music creatively interpreted by Pringle and Burnell. You'll listen to many cuts over and over--you'll listen to this CD again and again.

So does this CD represent an autobiographical glimpse into this husband/wife's personal lives or just a great collection of tunes by the duo? Buy the CD for yourself and decide. Personally, I think it's "Heaven Down Here"--just one more great cut from this great CD.

  5. In their CD, Anne and Mark exhibit their engaging musical range, humor and considerable talent. I've heard them in person and so it's great to be able to re-live some of their charm and magic by listening to their CD. A great value.

  1. Alright! this is a great CD! the Ace music is awsome, a good selection of songs from various artists, all except for the Satanic band Cannibal Corpse's song on it. If it wasnt for that gross song, the cd would be the best cd i own.

  2. Several songs are missing. Aero Smith, Main Theme, and the song when Ace discovers Einhorn is Finkle.

  3. The only thing that makes this cd worth listening too, is the Cannibal Corpse song, Hammer smashed face, I highly recomend you check out the other cds from that band, such as "Tomb of the Mutilated" and "The Wretched Spwan", "Vile" is my favorite though.

    Great Band A++

  4. that the band cannibal corpse was really invited by jim?
they are good friends, and jim also appears on the inner
sleeve of the bands album, "the bleeding".

  5. I agree the only good track is Cannibal Corpse, therefore you should just go ahead and buy the CD and forget the soundtrack, or get both. It obviously doesn't fit with the rest of the music, but for those of us who understand and love death metal, the fact that Cannibal Corpse is on this soundtrack is awesome.

5 comments about The Batman Trilogy: Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever (1997 Studio Recording).
  1. What we get here is a mix of the dark and creepy Danny Elfman scores of Batman and Batman Returns and the much more different yet wonderful score of Elliot Goldenthal from Batman Forever. All three of these films contain great scores! Its nice to see them put together in a trilogy where they belong! A nice job by both composers. A must buy for any Batman fan!

  2. My 5 year old loves everything Batman. I never watch an entire Batman movie with him but when he showed interest in movie scores I naturally purchased this one. We all love it. I've listened to it several times while my boy's at school. It's got me completely turned on to Danny Elfman, hence I'll soon be broke... PS... Reduces the "are we almost there yet"s by 95% on hour car ride to grandma's. Partly because Dad pretends he's driving the bat-mobile and I think he drives faster.....

  3. I was first introduced to Joel McNeely through his scoring of the soundtrack for Star Wars:Shadows of the Empire, which made me less wary about buying this new recording of the Batman movie themes than I ordinarily would be. Elfman's work still shines through, though having tracks from all three movies really illustrates how the Goldenthal music from the third film doesn't connect as well to the first two. Themes, notably the Penguins in "Batman Returns: Birth Of A Penguin" (track 10, as mentioned in another review) are accentuated a touch differently by McNeely in comparison to the Elfman originals, but it's a solid recording. This compilation is a straightforward way to obtain a 'best of' the soundtracks from these movies without buying all three scores, if you don't mind a distinct lack of liner notes.

  4. The music that was chosen in this is great! and it is by the same guy who played the "Psycho" score! The tempo is kind of slow, but that isn't important in my opinion. I think that when the tempo is slow, you can enjoy the music better!!!

  5. After Batman Forever, it was decided that Joel McNeely, a composer who created the score for the nonexistent movie Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, would reorchestrate pieces of the Batman music into suites. This was before Batman and Robin, so the live-action Batman series was for the time a trilogy, hence this CD's title. Joel McNeely had the task of redoing Danny Elfman and Elliot Goldenthal's wonderful scores.

Unfortunately, McNeely's job in creating a suite for the three bat-films ahs produced mixed results. He has made some nice touches, but in a lot of places he has chopped up the music or taken out the climatic moments. He also seems to perform some of the tracks at a slow speed. "The Cemetery", which lasted around two and a half minutes long on the Batman Returns soundtrack, goes on for about an extra fifty-five seconds using no additional music!

This compilation starts out promisingly with "The Batman Theme", which has a good new ending, but after this everything goes downhill. "Flowers" is cut down to twenty-eight seconds, taking out some of the best moments of this piece. It goes into the "Love Theme" which is a fair rendition, and then the Joker music comes on. "The Joker's Poem" suffers by having its loud ending notes taken out. "Clown Attack" keeps building
up, but its climax is also not reorchestrated. "Up the Cathedral", a five-minute piece in the movie, is horrendously chopped up for lack of an organ. Soon to follow are "Waltz to the Death" and "Final Confrontation". Things actually get a lot better with "Finale". This piece of music is extended in a very good way. Joel McNeely adds more climatic notes to herald the end of the first part.

Batman Returns is not butchered, but there are still some things lacking. No organ, a choir that fails to match up with Elfman's, and slowed down renditions of themes makes everything feel longer. The Batman Forever section is considerably better. In some ways it is better and in others it loses some of Goldenthal's zaniness. The clangs and loud horns heard in "Main Title" are taken out to provide an easier listen (although I was never daunted by these notes). Of good note is "Nygma Variations" which collects two minutes and thirty-nine seconds of insane Riddler music. Ending this soundtrack is Neal Hefti's theme from the T.V. show, this one conducted by Hollywood musician David Slonaker.

All in all, this soundtrack might be worth buying to hear otherwise hard-to-find Goldenthal music, but Elfman fans might want to be a little careful. If the soundtrack was expanded to over seventy minutes, the music would have been a lot better. However, there's a nice insert that talks about the music of the bat-films. This gives the CD an extra star.

5 comments about Peggy Sue Got Married: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
  1. "Peggy Sue Got Married" is a wonderfully nostalgic, deep and entrancing film. John Barry, as always, matches his original music perfectly with the mood of this film. There are four original compositions. The first is a beautiful theme entitled , "Peggy Sue's Homecoming". It is first heard when Peggy Sue (played by Kathleen Turner in by far her best role) returns to her childhood home after her "journey". The nostalgia transended through the theme is tremendous. "Charlie's Unplayed Guitar" is a beautifully, sad song fitting to the likable, yet hapless Charlie played well by Nicholas Cage in one of his earlier roles. "Did We Break Up?" is tune which brings back that unforgetable feeling of breaking up. Itis heard while Peggy Sue delivers the heartbreaking news to Charlie in an ominous scene in Peggy's basement. The final song is called "Charlie, I had the Strangest Experience". This hauntingly, beautiful song is heard twice in the film. First in a magically unforgetable nighttime scene on a hilltop with Peggy Sue and anahead-of-his-time beatnik played by Kevin O'Conner. The second time the song is heard is at the emotionally filled films end when Peggy Sue relizes who and what are important in her life upon her "return" to the present. The music so captures the nostalgic reminisence ofthis film, just as John Barry has done with other all-time soundtrack classics as "Somewhere in Time", "Out of Africa" and, of course, "Dances with Wolves". A must for John Barry fans.

  2. Just a gorgeous soundtrack. When I went to the movie to see this and saw it again recently on tv I thought it would be entirely made up of 50's pop music and there's some of that in it but it's so much more. Highly recommended

  3. I love this movie and the soundtrack. I think John Barry is very talented and the music on the soundtrack definitely places you in the different parts of the movie. I just can't believe that so many songs are missing from this soundtrack!!! Songs like Shimmy Shimmy Koko Pop (heard in the car), Just a Dream (at the party), Tequila (in the car), You Can't Sit Down (the diner), and many other oldies. What would also be great is if they would put the version of "I Wonder Why" that Nicolas Cage, Jim Carey and the others sing at the party. But I have to say that overall it's a great soundtrack. Maybe one day they will re-release this soundtrack with a couple of extras like they have with Top Gun and Forrest Gump.

  4. The movie is really cool. I actually grew up for 12 years in Santa Rosa when the movie was shot. The producers went all around town looking for fifties cars. Kathleen Turner was great looking and could have passed for a teenager without acne. Cage had a strange voice but put it on for the roll. The music was neat; sends you back to when music was awesome. My era [stinks] in music. Get This CD if you like oldies and want to see sexy Turner on the cover. Thumbs up; great movie and sounds.

  5. The soundtrack is great! The music is taken from the show and is highly entertaining to listen to--it brings you back to the 50's and 60's.

    Highly recommnded!

  1. the soundtrack was great, specially the song "you were there" by babyface, i wonder why that song didn't make it the oscar. i like the song"fever", when i listened to that song, i always thinking simon in the christmas presentation scene in the movie.

  2. The soundtrack to Simon Birch is very beautiful. But I do have one small problem with it.It has a few songs on it that are not in the movie, plus it excludes at least two very good songs that were in the movie."Peter Gunn Theme" and "For Your Love" were not in the soundtrack."Simon's Theme" is probably my favorite song on the whole disc. It's a good CD,but it does have a few flaws. The music might make you cry if you have seen the movie. There you have it.My review.

  3. The soundtrack is wonderful! I love it! I listen to it a lot. The songs can make me dance around and feel good. But, the song "You were there" gets to me! Overall I love the movie and soundtrack!

  4. "Simon's Theme" - One of the best compositions ever heard ! A must have cd, a must hear theme !

5 comments about Man on the Moon: Music from the Motion Picture.
  1. Who knew R.E.M. would be so good at film scores? Thier instrumental work on this album is flawless, especially the orchestral version of their classic song "Man On The Moon",and the gorgeous "Miracle"-possibly the most haunting, enduring music they've ever done. And,of coarse, you get thier great single "The Great Beyond",one of thier best.On top of that, you get goodies like the theme from "Taxi","Kiss You All Over",by Exile(c'mon, you know you love it),The "Mighty Mouse Theme",and a priceless version of "I Will Survive",sung with ally-cat-in-heat grandure by Tony Clifton(Jim Carrey),that may be better than the original. Also,as an added bonus, you also get "One More Song For You",sung by the real Andy Kaufman, just a small reminder of why they did all this in the first place. If you're a fan of Andy's,Jim Carrey's,or R.E.M.,or just good music, this is a sure bet.

  2. I love R.E.M., I really do. Therefore I bought `their' score of the brilliant movie Man On The Moon, after hearing their single The Great Beyond. This score also features the classic R.E.M. song Man On The Moon, as well as an orchestral version. A very nice bonus. This Friendly World is another R.E.M. song, a very sweet one with guest vocals by Jim Carrey (as Andy Kaufman and his alter ego Tony Clifton). Sadly, these songs are this score's only highlights. The rest of the album sounds very boring to me. Surely R.E.M. could have done a better job making a score for a brilliant movie like this. Sadly, they failed. But this score is definitely a nice collector's item for R.E.M. fans. If you're not a fan, I recommend to spend your money on something better. (Tip: Try a Radiohead album...)

  3. If you are a fan of R.E.M., a fan of Andy Kaufman, or enjoyed watching the movie MAN ON THE MOON, this is a great soundtrack to own. Two of the songs on the album: "The Great Beyond" and "Man on the Moon"; are songs performed by R.E.M. Not only that, but the film's score-much of which is included here-was written by the band as well. For Andy Kaufman fans, the album has a few songs performed by Andy and his alter-ego, Tony Clifton. Well, actually they were performed by Jim Carrey, but Jim Carrey said he actually became Andy while performing the movie, so even though it's him, he (and many others) swear it's Andy (Andy would have loved playing with people like that). Finally, this album has several dialogue clips from the movie. Some suggest that this takes away from the album, but I find it does the exact opposite: the clips enhance the music. And for those of you who aren't R.E.M., Andy Kaufman, or MAN ON THE MOON fans; this is still an enjoyable album to listen to: "The Great Beyond" and "Man on the Moon" are great songs as is the theme from Taxi and the "Mighty Mouse Theme". A real treat.

  4. This soundtrack composed of mainly R.E.M. songs stays true to the essence that was Andy Kaufman. R.E.M. fan rejoice. Andy fans rejoice. This album was made especially for you. There are several standout tracks such as "The Great Beyond," "This Friendly World," (which is a duet between Michael Stipe and Jim Carrey) and of course "Man on the Moon." But what truly make this album worthwhile are the little skits performed by various members of the cast in between songs. This is an excellent album a far as soundtracks go. It was not composed of hit songs just to make money. It is a well put together album. I give it 5 stars.

  5. This is truly a soundtrack because it contains many soundbites from the movie. The majority of the album is R.E.M., some actual songs by Andy Kaufman and of course the Mighty Mouse Theme.

5 comments about Batman Forever: Music From The Motion Picture.
  1. I got this disc years ago, and enjoyed it very frequently. Also, it was my introduction to Seal, and Kiss From A Rose is now one of my favorites. The opening track is kick-ass. And there are a few other winners in this compilation that make it deserving of a five star rating. Overall, it's pretty cool. Check it out.

  2. The guy who calls The Flaming Lips "soft rock", i say one thing. Listen to Clouds Taste Metallic (the album from where Bad Days is from) and then get back to me, and say it again. Geez, i don't mind people having an opinion, but when it's as obviously wrong as the one in the previous post, it makes me wanna punch babies in the face; and i don't wanna punch anyone, let alone babies. Seriously though, The Lips' contribution to this soundtrack is by far the best song here. It's so life affirming, and unpretentious - unlike the supposed "great songs" from U2 and Seal (a talentless also-ran, in my opinion).

  3. after the popularity drop in folk themed songs that seemed to end in the mid 90's, warner brothers thought that they should turn right around and make a soundtrack more hip hop influenced, there choice led to one of the many reasons batman forever was such a huge success, the best song this soundtrack had to offer was U2's wonderful performance, as well as smash it up which was obviously a take off chris o donnell's reckless nature, many people say seal offers the best performance, however i disagree, still seal's music is still worth checking out, all in all this was an well executed slideshow of assortments.

  4. I can not express how great the music is. The compilation of the music is amazing. Along with a great song by Michael Hutchence called The Passenger makes one inclined to want more.

  5. This soundtrack is the best. Every song is great and you never get tired of listening to the soundtrack. Highly Reccomended!!! Get it today!!!
