  1. Jerry Seinfeld has smart-humor. He doesn't have to rely on bad language to be funny. You have to think about some of the jokes and the payoff is always worth the set up. Some of these bits are destined to become classics. I love the Airplane jokes (werewolf shaving onboard, turning all the faucets on in the airport bathrooms, etc.) Funny stuff!

  2. You don't need to be a fan of the show to really enjoy this album. I had seen Jerry Seinfeld on some late night shows and thought he was pretty funny, but this album, like another reviewer said, is just filled to the brim with non-stop laughs.

I loved so many of the tracks. Oh my gosh, during the one when he was talking about when he went to go horse-riding, I was honsetly in tears laughing so hard, and so was everyone around me. It's a great CD to play for your friends and family, they will think it's hilarious.

In an age where comdians feel like they need to be vulgar to be funny, it's just so refreshing to hear someone like Jerry Seinfeld bring down the house with something as simple as talking about chopsticks, or McDonald's, or Halloween.

  3. Jerry Seinfeld can do no wrong, if you have seen him on tv and enjoyed any of the shows then buy the CD, you will not be disapointed.

  4. I bought this CD fairly recently, and only just now discovered that it's nine years old. Surely he's done something besides TV since. It's pretty good stuff, for all that. He makes it seem so easy.

  5. I have attended Mr. Seinfeld's live concerts and on CD as live, he is funny, genuine and amazingly 'clean'.

  1. nice to have this dvd to remember how wild the world is and how helpful many pepole are.

  2. Great Concert. Glad to see so many of the police and firefighters take part on stage.

Great to see The Who, David Bowie, and Elton John show support for America.

    Highly Recommended.

  3. A 9/11 program to try to heal a nation. Maybe if you watch it today, you'll regain the feelings we all felt when we saw the twin towers fall?

    Patriotic!

  4. I don't have this DVD, but I saw the concert on VH1 when it was originally broadcast. For me, The Who performing "Won't Get Fooled Again" was perhaps the most emotionally impactful rock and roll moment I've ever had. Maybe I was still very emotional about the events on 9/11, but hearing Roger Daltry's defiant voice shouting those words with the video screen showing the Twin Towers above the stage charged me up like I've never been charged up before. Amazing.

  5. I had been looking for this CD/DVD for a long time because I couldn't remember the name of it. My sister had taped it as it happened the night it aired on TV and sent it to me when I was in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia. My unit was being issued orders for Iraq that same day and to see this while we were in country, it really brought tears to my eyes and just about every other Marine in our hut that night. I love this concert. I'll never forget what it meant to me and the guy's in the unit. Everybody needs to see this over and over so that we will never forget!!

  1. The interviewer is very annoying. At times he interrupted Jerry's answers, finished Jerry's sentences and blabbed on about his own ideas.

  2. Though this is not his stand-up, it was a very helpful tool for me as a starting out comedian. I suggest this CD, and the movie Comedian to get a very real insight into the life of a comedian.

  3. This album is really meant for comedians or possible comedy writers. It's not meant to be funny, but rather offer insight into Seinfeld's work. Particularly interesting is his discourse on preparing for The Tonight Show and on comedy timing.

A must for anybody involved in the comedy business.

  4. As a new and developing comedian, this has been invaluable to me. I also have the book Great Comedians Talk About Comedy, full of print interviews including this one... and that is edited, so it's cool to hear Jerry Seinfeld actually say it here. You catch the nuances and overall meaning a bit better.

As my review title says, I've listened to this thing at least 5 times over the past 3 months and every time I catch something different.

A couple things about the interviewer: he has interviewed many of the greats in comedy going all the way back to Milton Berle, so he has a good basis for the questions he asks, and he chooses questions that, even if his theory (based on all these comedians) may not be perfect, it still stimulates Jerry to clearly explain his own perspective.

  5. I hope no one actually *paid* for this CD. I got it at the public library, and while it's lightly entertaining, and probably even lighter in terms of its worth to aspiring comics, the overall effect is one of superficiality and amateurism.

For one thing, the interviewer, Larry Wilde, is most certainly NOT a good interviewer. As one reviewer pointed out, he talks too much; he answers his own questions; he asks *dopey* questions, questions that lack depth.

What I find interesting about Jerry Seinfeld is that his show, for me, wasn't that great. In many markets, "Seinfeld" reruns are followed by reruns of "Everyone Loves Raymond," and "Everyone Loves Raymond," seems so much better: the acting, the writing, the conception of the characters. "Seinfeld," pales in comparison.

And so Jerry Seinfeld, it seems to me, is trapped. What has he done since "Seinfeld"? A bee movie. Ok, if bees are your thing. ... A documentary he produced about how he reconstructed his comedy act, joke-by-joke, from ground zero. ... Ok, mildly entertaining. But, in many ways, very sad. ("What now, Jerry? What now?")

What can he do, the poor guy? I think he realizes that "Seinfeld" was what it was, to a large extent, because of the particular time it came into being. It was, if you will, "first on the field." Now, in retrospect, it seems, comedically, quite shallow.

As an astute student of comedy, I think that, in his heart of hearts, he himself would have to admit that. The show is several notches below the quality of his stand-up routines, especially his pre-"Seinfled" HBO specials.

In fact, this CD, as much as it didn't strike me as particularly great, was more entertaining that any given "Seinfeld" episode.

And so what's poor Jerry doing? Answer: analyzing his career: again and again and again. Who knows, being a Zen student, it may be a Zen thing with him.

Alas, I think that he himself can't figure out just why his tv program was so successful.

Jerry Seinfeld is a very likeable person. I mean, how can you dislike the guy, he's relaxed, intelligent, ingratiating, tasteful. But how sad that he was so successful -- with a mediocre show -- that he now, I believe, is afraid to try anything new involving a mass audience. Afraid because he knows that the success of "Seinfeld" is way out of proportion to not only the show's comedic value but also his limited talent. He's a damn good stand up comedian, but he's not in the league of "comedy greats," the title of this CD's series notwithstanding.

5 comments about Jerry Seinfeld Live on Broadway: I'm Telling You for the Last Time.
  1. I think People sometime's forget just what a brilliant comedian Jerry Seinfeld really is. The television series was remarkable and the best ever, in my opinion. This movie; Jerry Seinfeld Live on Broadway: I'm Telling You for the Last Time, reminds us that the show was based on material that Jerry came up with. I have had the pleasure of seeing Jerry twice in Sacramento, California. He is brilliant with the most impeccable timing I have witnessed. This movie captures Jerry at the peak of his performing prowess with timeless material that serves as a testament to his sharp wit and billiant comedic mind. 5 Stars!

  2. Jerry Seinfeld in his DVD "I'm Telling You for the Last Time" (1998) delivers as a consummate comedian. Seinfeld has the unique ability to see complexity and detail in supposedly simplistic everyday life and things. These include aspects like airflight traveling, cab drivers, airport bathrooms, doctors and waiting rooms, grocery stores, elderly folks in Florida, McDonalds, horses, and so much more. What is seemingly irrelevant and unnoticeable, is what Seinfeld can turn into jokes, and simultaneously keep the audience laughing and pondering, and talking about it the next day. Because much of what he portrays is based on common daily circumstances, Seinfeld's comedy is largely timeless. He certainly comes across as a meticulous master observer, one who gathers up unnoticeable and ignored detail in everyday life, and transmits this through comedy. Here are bits of Seinfeld humor. "Airline peanut bags are too small, dig?...so are airline booze bottles and bathrooms." "When people go to the store they can never remember if they have enough milk." "New York cabbies are bad smelling foreigners and airport security guards are too fat."

Notably, Seinfeld loves the short Question-Answer technique. He asks the audience, why this and this happens, and while they laugh at the seemingly simple yet intriguing question, he offers an answer that people would not expect, sending the audience into a frenzy of uncontrollable laughter. Example: "Dogs are broke all their lives. You know why they have no money? No pockets. They see change on the street--there's nothing they can do about it." Not to mention, most of Seinfeld's jokes are fresh. Furthermore, profanity does not exist in his routine, something he is so much credited for, given the significant employment of profanity by many comedians. Look at more of Seinfeld's comedy: "I'm going to tell you the secret of the male mind---all men think of themselves as low-level superheroes."

Jerry Seinfeld is remarkably comfortable on stage. He starts his joke routine casually then digs in with mostly fresh material. His appeal also has to do with his humility, calmness and ease, as well as genuine appreciation for his audience, all this despite the high level of success with his television show. Seinfeld even allows for audience questions, an aspect quite rare among comedians. Seinfeld is genuinely touched when the audience gives him a standing ovation whether at the beginning of or at the end of his set. Both on TV and stage, Seinfeld is a highly skillful comedian. The combination of his TV show (that ran for an impressive 9 years) and the stage performances build him into a much greater performer. The TV show offers more flexibility and body expression, whereas Seinfeld demonstrates far less facial expressions in the stage acts. Nevertheless, Seinfeld dramatizes that comedy can come across plainly but excellently without the employment of grotesque facial expressions that many comedians are known for.

While using some of the most mundane things in life for his material, he still possesses and transmits an intellectual form of humor. The Seinfeld performing on the DVD is quite the same as the television Seinfeld. Many of the jokes are familiar, and even those that are not tend to sound like they are. That Seinfeld is also consistent in the humor from start to finish is undeniable. Further, Seinfeld tends to appeal to quite a wide audience, that transcends gender and even age to some extent, just as long as this audience is in tune with his intellectual oriented humor. Some of his jokes do have a mature backdrop, but overall Seinfeld's comedy can be enjoyed by both young and old. A good example that gathers a wide breadth of laughs is the segment about trick-or-treating as a child and drive toward a constant need for candy. Much of Seinfeld's presentation is about Seinfeld's writing ability combined with physical representations of the off-the-wall characters he has met.

  3. If you are a fan of the stand up comedy of Jerry Seinfeld then this is a must in your DVD collection!! From milk to cab drivers to candy to Chicken of the Sea,it is still outrageously funny. 75 minutes of pure comedy plus cameo appearances at the beginning with Ed McMahon, Jay Leno, Robert Klein,Gary Shandling, and the late Alan King among others. This is great comedy Jerry Seinfeld's way! Okay we have the complete "Seinfeld" collection, "I'm Telling You for the Last Time", "Jerry Seinfeld Comedian" and in a few months,"Bee Movie" to add to the collection! Just enjoy!!

  4. What can you expect from a used product... The CD had scratches and the cover was pretty worn... decided not to give it as a gift because it looked like I found it in a thirft store.

  5. Jerry Seinfeld is good at being funny. This DVD doesn't let you down! He sees everyday things that we all notice and finds a way to make them funny. You'll often find yourself thinking "That is so true!" Another plus is the fact that Jerry doesn't swear at all which is always a difference when talking about stand up comdedians.
The only minus i can think of is you can watch it once and then remember most of the jokes, which makes the next time you watch it not quite as funny. It's also missing the classic writing of Larry David and 3 other actors to make it as hilarious as the usual 'Seinfeld'.
Good fun for a rainy weekend.
