  1. When I first listened to this disc, I laughed myself silly in spite of myself. The jokes are absolutely corny, like the kind my grandfather used to tell. However, like Redd Foxx, it's all in the delivery. Youngman has impeccable timing. There are references to barbecue that are scattered throughout the disc which I don't really understand, but Henny gets back to business soon enough with one corny, hilarious joke after another. I highly recommend this disc to anyone down in the dumps who is in need of a lift. Henny can make anybody smile.

  2. The late Henny Youngman delighted audiences for more than 50 years with his one-liners and jokes. This is the same kind of "whiz-bang" fast-paced humor that any old vaudeville comedian would use (Milton Berle comes to mind), but there's a certain charm to Henny. Here's simply an old pro doing some simple corny jokes for a small crowd. As old and hoary as these jokes may be, they're timeless, and good clean fun. This CD is a prime example of the charm and warmth of one of the greatest comedians of the vaudevillian school of humor. Not original, nothing daring, controversial, or satirical, and Henny practically admits how old his jokes are. A couple members of the crowd groan at the jokes now and then, and Henny doesn't expect big laughs. He practically WELCOMES the groans. He doesn't take himself too seriously. He's just an earnest comedian doing his job, just a nice guy getting on stage and standing up there cranking out his old jokes come what may. It's easy to ridicule the old-fashioned style of humor, but again, the charm and warmth of Henny's delivery make that style of humor irresistable. Take this CD, please!

  3. I first saw Henny Youngman in the movie 'Amazon women on the moon', where he plays one of a number of comedians telling jokes at a funeral. It's true that his jokes may be corny and as old as he was at the time, but he's a very funny guy ! And you can't help but laugh ! No f--- words, no swearing, no politics, just good clean fun. I don't mind comedians with explicit lyrics, but this one should go down well with anybody who enjoys a good laugh. It's a pity his few other albums are so hard to locate.

  4. This material - some of it originally packaged on Rhino Records' "Henny Youngman's 128 Greatest Jokes" LP in 1980 - is first-rate Henny! (Trivia: the CD cover comes from a 1970 LP released on Nashville's Certron Records, which featured different Henny material.) Over 35 minutes of essential Henny Youngman material that will delight all, whether it's the longtime H.Y. fan, or one that's been newly introduced to his material!

  1. Henny Youngman CD Take My Album ... Please! allows stand-up comedy fans to discover or perhaps rediscover one of the early giants. It features two shows recorded in the late seventies and released as records (records were vinyl playback devices the size of a dinner plate and about twice as thick as a CD) at about that time. Take My Album Please is like a bride: something old, something borrowed, something blue. There are not that many blue jokes and they are sexual innuendo and not foul language. This is a solid comedy CD and a must for any serious stand-up and Borscht Belt fan.

5 comments about Goodfellas: Music From The Motion Picture.
  1. I was watching GoodFellas for the about the 5 time when the Helicopter scene came on. Maybe it was the mood or maybe it was the wine but it really got to me. I had to have that soundtrack! I fired up the computer and ordered it right away overnight shipping from Amazon... It came... I popped it in the HiFi and sat back and got "prepared" to be blown away and transported back to the time when they made real rock....Song 1..Dud..Song 2 Dud...Song 3 Dud..song 4,5,6... Well you get the idea.. It was a compilation of the most boring early 50's music with a couple of less than stellar motown non-hits. One Clapton tune. After I got over my stupor from being bored I doublechecked it...I did NOT replay it. I donated it to the Library. No one else wanted it. May the dogbreaths who produced this rot for not disclosing that they didn't include ALL the songs.

  2. To all of you who are complaining about this skinny soundtrack (and I'll join you) there may be some hope down the road. In the liner notes of the finally-released soundtrack of Scorcese's "Raging Bull", soundtrack producer and industry legend Robbie Robertson says that the soundtrack was initially put on hold because they couldn't get permissions and clearances in time. However, Robertson kept all the original material related to the soundtrack and, 25 years later, they were able to release it at last. Here's to hoping it won't be 25 years, but that in time Scorcese will similarly give the "Goodfellas" soundtrack a second look, and if there were permissions issues before that they will have worked themselves out.

By the way, the "Raging Bull" CD is an absolutely *incredible* 38-track compilation Raging Bull. It's a remarkable tribute to the era, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a better one.

  3. great quality, great songs, BUT, it's missing about 2 songs from the movie, i.e. Blue Velvet.

  4. I went to I tunes and they had the whole list which I got from IMDB, then bought what I wanted...and made my own CD

I hope this helped. Too many of the above songs (28 songs!) were omitted from the so-called "soundtrack."
