  1. The day after I saw EDTV, I went and got the soundtrack. The songs are great like Bon Jovi's "Real Life", Barenaked Ladies' "Call and Answer", UB40's "Holly,Holy" and many more make it a must in your CD collection. Go see the movie, too. It is SO FUNNY!!!

  2. An awesome mixture of reggae, light alternative, and Barry White (you can never go wrong with Barry), all of which is really upbeat. Good road trip CD or if you just need a mood boost! Two thumbs up!

  3. This albm contains alot of the tracks from the movie. All of which are good tunes. Barenaked Ladies, Barry White, etc. My only disappointment was the lack of the Harvey Danger tune I'm Not Sick But Not Well. But all in all a good album.

  4. I bought the CD today and feel shortchanged. The two songs I really wanted was missing from the CD. The piece where Jill meets Ed playing foot ball with the borrowed dog and the other where Ed chases Shari into the theater. If I was good with titles I'd name them which is why I bought the Cd in the first place. Any help on what they were would be appreciated. Overall though the soundtrack was good but I hate when they never include original songs for some unspecified reason.

  5. Good movie...didn't understand why some great tunes didnt make it the soundtrack. Any way here's the complete soundtrack list for those who're interested:
"Have You Ever" by Joe Tex, Buddy Killen, performed by Joe Tex; "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)" by Al Green, Mabon Hodge, performed by Al Green; "Drum Warrior" by/performed by Dave Anderson; "Car Scratch Fever" by/performed by Ted Nugent; "Mama Told Me Not to Come" by Randy Newman, performed by Three Dog Night; "Turnin' Pages" by Taylor Rhodes, Peter Wolf, performed by Peter Wolf; "Allegro Molto Moderato" by Edvard Grieg; "This World" by Herb Schapiro, Gary William Friedman, performed by The Staple Singers; "These Arms of Mine" by/performed by Otis Redding; "Dirty Water" by Ed Cobb, performed by The Inmates; "Let's Go Team #1" by/performed by Dan Stein; "A Lot of Livin' to Do" from the Broadway musical "Bye Bye Birdie" by Charles Strouse, Lee Adams, performed by Gavin Grazer; "Burning to Change" by Stroke 9, Luke Esterkyn, performed by Stroke 9; "Been Hurt" by Ryan Maxwell, performed by Muzzle; "Thank You (Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Again)" by Sylvester Stewart, performed by (1) Sly & the Family Stone, (2) Barry White; "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, performed by Fun Factory; "Sleep on the Left Side" by Tejinder Singh, performed by Cornershop; "That's Life" by Dean Kay, Kelly Gordon, performed by James Brown; "Deep inside the Passion" by Ruben Ayala, Jeff Wade; "Call and Answer" by Steven Page, Stephen Duffy, performed by Barenaked Ladies; "Flagpole Sitta" by Sean Nelson, Evan Sult, Aaron Huffman, Jeff Lin, performed by Harvey Danger; "Holly Holy" by Neil Diamond, performed by UB40; "Como ves" by Jesús 'Chuy' Perez, performed by Ozomatli; "Careful What You Wish for" by Meredith Brooks, Shelly Peiken, Adam Gorgoni, performed by Meredith Brooks; "Let Me See" by Paul Godfrey, Ross Godfrey, Skye Edwards, performed by Morcheeba; "Afroman" by Alejandro Rosso Gonzales, Juan José Gonzales Reyes, performed by Plastilina Mosh; "Bareback Rider" by Dave Anderson; "Gimme Some Lovin'" by Steve Winwood, Muff Winwood, Spencer Davis, performed by The Spencer Davis Group; "Real Life" by Jon Bon Jovi, Desmond Childs, performed by Jon Bon Jovi; "True TV Promo" by/performed by Jim Lang; "Style Hut" by Jim Lang, performed by Bobbi Page, Jim Lang

    good luck

  1. It's not Ottman's finest work as a composer, but I think that is because of the film's comedic elements he hasn't been used to handeling. The in-jokes however (the "My Favorite Themes" rhythm tacked on at one point) make it kind of sly. Nice to see him working with some jazz elements for a change too.

  1. I viewed the film, "The Love Letter" and immediatley bacame illusioned with the idea that love does exist with every step we take, in every direction that we view, there is the opportunity for love. It may not be the love that might last forever, but does any love? The film captures the desire that we all have to fall in love whether it be instictively or passionatly. The cast does a supurb job in heavily relying on the contents of the letter and assuming that it might've been written for them....Overall, I loved the soundtrack, the composition, makes you feel.

  2. This soundtrack is absolutely wonderful. Luis Bacalov's tango style brightens my day whenever I listen to this CD. It's filled with exciting themes the whole way through.

  3. This music is excellent, it evokes what goes on in the film prefectly. 'You graze my heart' is beautiful, subdued and then you get the more up tempo & frenzied ' You can't love a letter' & ' Going Crazy/Tango letter'. Chet Baker's 'Ive never been in love before' is wonderfully chilled-out. Picnic is jazzy and Fly Love letter fly & Imagine being in love are beautiful tracks. The soundtrack ranges from being thoughtful to chaotic and exciting. The film is a romantic comedy and you can feel the romance, humour & excitement in the music. Bacalov also composed music for 'Il Postino'. The Love Letter film was very good too.

  4. Although this movie has been out for some time, I had never seen it. I ordered it through Amazon.com and I'm so glad I did! It was so romantic and funny -- a true "chick flick", which I happen to love! Once I viewed the movie I just HAD to have the soundtrack, too. It's equally wonderful and it always puts a spring in my step when I listen to it! "I'm in the mood for love" by Louie Armstrong never fails to make me smile. The composer, Luis Bacalov, is a romantic genius with a heart.

  5. I hoped to find Love Potion Nº 9 in this soundtrack. If it was included in the movie I think it belonged in the disc.

  1. I first saw this stand-up show on HBO a long time ago when I was a kid and loved it. When I saw it again last year I thought it was even better. Here you can see great young comedians taking there first steps to stardom like Ellen Degeneres. This video also has great comedy veterans like Robin Williams and Howie Mandell. You also get to see clips from there earlier performances when they too where starting out. So I really recomend this product if you love stand-up comedy.

  1. Having seen this show when it came out on VH1 I was very upset at what they had cut out of it on the DVD and can't imagine why. There was a whole Elvis medley which if I'm not mistaken included Mary J. Blige doing Blue Suede Shoes and Stevie Nicks doing I forgot what other song. Don't get me wrong the performances on the DVD were great, but the show was incomplete. For that alone, I rate it what I did.

  2. I bought this because Cyndi Lauper was supposed to appear on this.I was very disappointed firstly because Cyndi was not on it and secondly it was a very short dvd for the money.
However a good dvd for fans of Celion Dion,Cher and Anastasia. Also Stevie Nicks performance was so short. Why cut out all the good stuff.
Next divas please do not cut any of Cyndi Lauper,s performance.

  3. Even though I did not see the VH1 special in its entirety, I still cant even fathom any review from anybody that says anything but utter perfection. Flawless performances from the worlds best Diva's. i do enjoy and love the entertainers that were cut from the vidio. However, in my opinion, they didnt belong on stage with the worlds best. I still dont know how annastasia pulled it off, but she was given her finest gift and acheivement being on stage with the best. dixie chicks didnt belong there either but were included for some reason. Celine, owned the crowd, as she should have.

  4. I was lucky to watch the original broadcast on VH1. Then I waited a long time for the DVD release, I purchased it and was very disappointed of the editing. I would be very interested in purchasing this concert (I don't mind paying again for it) and other VH1 DIVAS concerts if they are released, at least, the way they were originally transmitted on TV.
Blair comments are 100% accurate and fair.

  5. The DIVAS are a great way to enjoy your own at home concert. They are wonderful DVDs, I wish there were more.

  1. Classic DeGeneres here! I especially love her story/rant about growing up with an Indian tribe. She has such a gift for making the insane sound believable, and carrying the story to the max! She can also be very convincing in "fooling" the listener - as evidenced by her surprising deer story/commentary. Some of the material here will be familiar to more recent fans, as she sometimes repeats material. Still, I would definitely recommend this CD for any DeGeneres fan.

  2. Ellen DeGeneres was at her prime, and she pretty much still is, as she released this magnificent piece of work. It's funny, perspective, cocky, hilarious, serious, mad, jagged, rugged, soft, pointless, meaningful, and almost anything else I have left out.

Two of Ellen's funnies short bits, recorded in a year she was so filled with both spite and annoyance it would make Robert Barrone run, shine through the tape. "Airplanes" and "Depends and Leg Warmers" are both Ellen's mutinous answer to society's straight thinking, messed up and (quite often wrongly hilarious) perception.

Another track that shines is "Licking a Frog", which is just gut wrenching comedy, in which the crowd laughs at almost every joke. (And by "crowd", I also mean me, for i honestly could not breathe until this track passed - although i dared not press 'skip')

But if you want crowd reaction, you can't miss "Phone call to God". I a piece that is the perfect combination of gut wrenching comedy and mind numbing philosophy, Ellen plays with the crowd like G.I Joe's. (It may be of use to Ellen's cult like fans that this track was recorded, ironically, at a time when she was depressed and out of a proper job. Only true comedians can produce something so funny out of situation like that.)

This album has no "over all", for it never finishes. Each track spells out genius, and I'm sure will be comical and hilarious for years to come. Weather you download or buy the alum, just know that you will never give this up for a bar bet. It'll grow on you, just like Ellen has on me, and will remain funny for years to come.

The only downside? Pressing the stop button.

  3. Prior to her talk show career, DeGeneres was a pretty good standup comedian as this 1996 release documents. In the Portland, OR performance DeGeneres talks about some common standup fodder (kids, airplane food, moments of embarrassment) but frequently with an unthought of aside that gives it a completely different spin. (In "Airplanes" she questions WHY airplane companies feel it necessary to instruct you to return to your seat after completing your "duties" in the bathroom..do they think it's too tempting to kick back and relax in there?)

And then there's the stuff NOBODY thinks to talk about like: What function do ticks serve in the grand scheme of life? What possessed someone to lick a toad to discover its hallucinogenic properties? Why do we tell people "It's O.K." after they catch us with dropped trou in a public bathroom stall? ("I think we'd be really surprised if they came back..")

Adult content is kept to 5 swear words basically, and a sex reference or two in "Birds Mating" and "Cat in Heat" and 2 brief drug references to crack and "shooting up" as well as the "Licking a Frog" track. The sex stuff is non-explicit and will probably go over the heads of the younger kids. The drug material is done jokingly (not like say Richard Pryor's drug routines that would be based in real-life experience).

Those with good knowledge of an audio editing program like Audacity can create a completely "clean" edit to their liking for the family truckster with little effort.

    BOTTOM LINE:
Not as classic as, say, Bill Cosby's 60s efforts or some of Bob Carlin's 70s output but pretty darn good.

    3 1/2 stars

  4. ELLEN DEGENERES..the queen of comedy...and one of the most talented women in the world. shes great, and really knows how to get you to believe crazy stories, like the bit about the indians, thats classic ellen. im a very big fan of hers and own all her work but this cd has to be the best. if you wanna crack a rib laughing then buy this album. just dont drive a car while doing so.

  5. Having enjoyed Ellen's sitcom in the early- and mid- 90s, I was pretty excited when I discovered she had recorded a stand-up album. Needless to say, after reading all of the glowing reviews here, I had pretty high expectations from such a proven comedian and, boy, was I ever let down big time.

For the most part, the jokes and stories weren't all that funny. I think I would say they were more just "cute" than hillarious. There were a few funny moments, but the rest of the time she spends about ten minutes building up to (with plenty of wandering off on tangents) a flat punchline. These ten minute gabs make up about 75 to 80 % of the cd, with a few good one-liners thrown in for good measure. I kind of got the sense that she didn't prepare enough material to cover her whole set time, so she stretched out what she did have to fill it up.

I have to admit, I was baffled when it turned out that stores no longer carried new copies of this album from the esteemed comedian Ellen. After giving it a listen, though, I can see why its sales didn't sustain in the long-run. It's too bad, too. This had the potential to be a gourmet serving of funny, and instead ended up more like a bland hot pocket.

  1. I was pretty disappointed by this. I was looking for songs that my kids could sing and dance to. This just was not it!! It's too bad, its one of my daughter's favorite movies.

  2. Great cd! Have used in the classroom and the kids loved it.

  3. Because my 2 year old son loves the Finding Nemo movie I ordered the CD to listen to at bedtime. The first time I played it, it only took him the first few notes to recognize the music from the movie.

The soundtrack does a wonderful job of creating an underwater atmosphere. My son and I also have fun with some of the "scary parts" such as when the barracuda attacks. As soon as my son hears that particular strain of music he makes a pretend scared face and then we giggle and snuggle in the covers.

If your child loves Nemo, has an active imagination and likes to listen to music as he goes to sleep, this is a nice choice.

  4. My 22 month old son loves the movie Finding Nemo and has watched it countless times. He loves this CD and recognizes what parts of the movie many of the pieces are from. He asks for it most every time he gets in the car, and believe me, its very pleasant for adults to listen too. The pieces are beautiful and relaxing. My only disappointment is that the songs are all very short...not much longer than they were in the scenes of the movie.

  5. I bought this CD since I fell in love with a lot of the calming music from the movie. However, the tracks are very short and unfortunately, my favorites are the shortest. My four year old hates it and aks for it to be turned off. It's pretty relaxing. Anybody know where I can get the longer version of the track where Nemo and the others are swimming on Mr. Ray's back?
