- I bought this CD a 2 or 3 months ago and am wearing it out playing so often in the car.
If you like burnin; straight ahead jazz featuring 2 tenor players - each one with one foot in swing/blues and the other foot in bebop, you've got to buy this CD. Griffin got a bit overshadowed by John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins in the late 50's/early sixties but was almost as important musically. He was terrific at playing at double-time. Jaws had this strange way of playing "off the melody" so that everything sounded "flat" but still in key. I'm not a musician and will probably butcher the nomenclature, but it was as though he was playing on top of inversions of the chord progressions rather than the belly of the chord itself (kind of "inside out"). Let's put it this way: When you hear Jaws playing, you know it's Lockjaw, because no other tenor in a half-century has sounded that way. The tunes are great. The rhythm sections are smokin'. Add this one to your collection. And be prepared to wear out the CD.

- This was a hilarious movie (note that I can spell)! The "Call Me" remix at the end had me up and dancing and annoying my buddy. hahah So, I HAD to get the soundtrack. This has some great old tunes, plus some neat, new stuff I have never heard before. Great job on this one!
- Just rented the movie and was most impressed by the "snippets" of music interspersed throughout. The producers could not lose with tracks by the likes of Blondie, Marvin Gaye, 10cc, War, KC & the Sunshine Band, and Hot Chocolate.
Sure, all of the artists have had their work reused constantly, but the inclusion here elevates the film to somewhat memorable status. Pass on buying the flick, but spend your change on the great soundtrack.
- i'm agree with most of the reviewers, and i'd like to add something:does anybody notice the song " lift me up"(jeff lynne ex ELO)? is a masterpiece!!! i'm sure this is the kind of cd everybody should have in our houses
- WHile this OST is decent, I will admit that Scary Movie AND Deuce Bigalow have this one song in them that plays in the MATRIX-spoof scene of BOTH movies. I can't find out who did it or what the name of it is. if anyone knows...PLEASE tell me. this is driving me up the f(_)cking wall! it's not listed on IMDB.com or any other internet related movie database. please please help me if you can. thanks!
- It doesn't have the song I was looking for. You know when he goes into the dance club and gets the overpriced martini and grape juice? There is a rap remix of Stayin' Alive as he is walking in. That one is not on here.

- Are you kidding me? If you are at all a fan of Motorhead or Fastway then waste no time getting this disc.
Fast Eddie's playing is amazing on this cd. He even sings on all the tracks (except for one instrumental). His voice kinda sounds like Ace Frehley from Kiss but the guitar is unmistakably Eddie! This is the kind of disc you can bang your head to (check out "Snakebite"), dance to ("Naturally"), or just rock out to some great guitar solos ("It Ain't Over Till It's Over") If that doesn't temp you, Lemmy plays bass and does guest vocals on one song.
- Fast Eddie Clarke may be regarded as a legend among Motörhead fans, and even the first two albums with Fastway was good. But this album is just not worthy! I don't know what happened but nothing works. The material is very weak and forgettable. I strongly advise you to skip this one!
- Here's a CD release that I never thought would end up seeing the light of day.As most of you probably do know that Fast Eddie Clarke was guitarist for Motorhead from 1976-82 until him and Lemmy had an apparent falling out. He then formed Fastway in which their first three lp's were great '80's metal. Getting back to 'It Ain't Over...', I personally thought Clarke handled both the vocal chores as well as the guitar playing rather well. This is a heavy rock CD, with some bluesy influence thrown in. Tunes that totally rock out were "No Satisfaction", "Snakebite", "Laughing At The Devil" (which features Lemmy on lead vocals-alright!) and "In The City". Not a bad piece of semi-historic music here.

2 comments about Live at Minton's -- First Set.
- One of the lost jewels of the bebop era, this masterpiece features the bossest tenors in the business, plus blues-drenched Junior Mance at the keyboard, for a dazzling live set so full of passion you can hardly stay in your seat. Both tenors were at the top of their form, never better than when they were together, drawing out the fire in each other, not so much in competition as in mutual respect. Griffin is a technician advanced as Coltrane or Rollins in his melodic agility. Lockjaw Davis has, well, the jaws. His embrochure and tone are only rivalled by Ben Webster: but while Ben is the poet, Lockjaw is the virtuoso. Together, Lockjaw and Grif burn brighter than any tenor tandem in bebop, and that includes the bosses, Stitt and Ammons.
This tenor tandem recorded at least ten albums together. Noteworthy is their selection of tunes. While most tenor duos jammed on simple riffs, these two chose the complex melodies and harmonics of Thelonious Monk. This music is both emotional and intellectually challenging. The crowd at Minton's that night was really into the music, and their backround presence on the recording only makes the music more gritty, more real. And you are right there! This quintet ought to be rediscovered NOW!
- Great tenor sax record. These guys really play on this one. A must for any Hard Bop collection.

5 comments about Coneheads: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack.
- Red Hot Chile Peppers have a great song, "Soul to Squeeze" and "Tainted Love" is good as well, but all the others are at best average.
- Short and simple is one description for this CD, but that's not what bugs me the most! Of most, I wanted to hear Dan Aykroyd's rendition of 'Tainted Love' and 'Don't Want To Hold My Cone Alone'. The other versions, I can get them else where! Very dissapointing.
- I pretty much got this CD for one reason-"Soul to Squeeze" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There is only one more CD on the planet that has that song, and it's very hard to find. This and "Tainted Love" are great songs, but the rest was mediocre.
- This is one of those times that you ask, "Why does this even have a soundtrack?" I mean, the best thing about the movie was Chris Farley, and he wasn't even a conehead. Actually this is half-way decent. Tracks 4-9 are all good. When this came out, I thought it was kind of strange to have the Chili Pepper's on it. It's like putting "The Thrill Kill Kult" on the "Flintstones" album. But hey, I guess that's what soundtracks are for. The last track is a dancy number sung by the Coneheads. Good or bad depending on what you want. Get this used.
- Morten Harket's (of A-ha fame) cover of the Frankie Valley song is the best version of the song that I have ever heard, even surpassing the original. This song will be played at my wedding later this month; not bad for something from the Coneheads soundtrack! The REM song ain't too bad either. Other tracks are okay, but I bought it just for track #5 in mind.

5 comments about Cinderella Man.
- I dearly loved the movie, "Cinderella Man," and the music in it. However, why on earth, on the CD, did they play only a minute, or less, of some of the best music? Like, "Hope of the Irish," I liked that so much, but 52 seconds dosn't do it. In the film it was at least 3 minutes or more. I have decided not to buy the soundtrack simply because of this.
- I suppose this would have been better, like another reviewer said, if some of the tracks had been more than minute-long cuts of the music from Cinderella Man. Still, it's a fantastic soundtrack!--I don't know what "conventional" meant when someone called it that, but if you like sad and somber music, you'll certainly like this. Try it. It's almost better than the movie itself, and the movie was great. After this, I have to hear Thomas Newman's other work.
- Thomas Newman is becoming quite the composer. He has such a unique style, but is able to use it to compliment the movies he scores without the music sounding out of place or out of period. The tracks "Turtle" and "Pugilism" are fun to listen to. The first track is short and yet somehow moving. There are enough songs from the period to lend the right flavor to the soundtrack (including a track of Paul Giamatti whistling "Londonderry Air"). This one's definitely worth having if you're a fan of Thomas Newman.
- Cinderella Man is one of my favorite movies of all time. And the soundtrack does not disappoint. They have all of the powerful songs heard on the DVD. It even has the songs that you could barely hear in the movie because they were simply background music to the scenes. For instance, when Mike Wilson and Jim Braddock sit down together after work and have a drink and discuss the troubled times their nation was facing during the depression, you can faintly hear a song called, "We've Got to Put that Sun Back in the Sky" by Roane's Pennsylvanians. That song is on here in its entirety.
The other example is found in the scene where Joe Gould is seen driving off after just speaking with Jim about his hopes of getting him another fight after Jim had defeated Corn Griffin. Joe is trying to leave before Mae can see him because he knows she would not approve of his talking with Jim and the potential of another fight for her husband. Anyway, just as he gets in the car, and as he drives off, you can here Bud Freeman's "Tillie's Downtown Now" being played--another great song from that era.
Every sound of Cinderella Man is found on this soundtrack. The lone downside to this CD is that the songs are not found in the order they appear in the movie. The first four songs are in order and the last five or so are in order, and the rest is thrown in the middle. They are all there, but as is typical for most soundtracks, they don't all coincide with the order presented in the picture.
This soundtrack is a terrific purchase for any fan of this movie. You will not be disappointed.
- Ok, now that you know how I feel about Thomas Newman, let me say that even if you're new to purchasing film scores, this is a spectacular piece of work. Yes, the "sound" is typical Thomas Newman ...swelling orchestras, haunting distant whistles, tumbling drums... but why shouldn't it be? Mozart sounds like Mozart, Hendrix sounds like Hendrix. That said, there is A LOT of versatility going on here. Compare the theme "Cinderella Man" to the track "Turtle" for example. These aren't just noodling variations on a theme, they are great songs that stand on their own.
For a real treat, I recommend you listen to the soundtrack several times, then watch the movie (even better if it's for the first time). This is a composer who can work the magic of creating something that is both perfect for a film maker and delicious for a listener.

5 comments about Jason's Lyric: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
- I agree with all that have reviewed this soundtrack. I love it...Simply put!
There's nothing quite like riding down OST(old spanish trail) listening to "Little Girl Blue" by Caron Wheeler (Sdtk Cass.)or bumpin "Jesse James" by Scarface over off Scott over in 3rd Ward...
This soundtrack is nice. If you don't have it you gotta get it. But make sure you get the bonus song "Little Girl Blue" the CD isn't complete without it and you may have to get the cassette for it. I enjoy the movie on the regular. I gotta watch it at least twice a month. If you're ever in HOUSTON visit THIS IS IT Soul Food and Frenchy's man this food is somethin else. Hell you haven't been to Houston unless you had some Frenchy's chicken and sweet potatoe pie.
- Great ablum and has some of the greatest songs on it. R&B at it's best . Hip Hop and rap. Can't go wrong with it.
- This is yet another nostalgic compilation that is another one of my favourites. A mix of fast/slow rhythm & blues, and some fast/slow hip hop, the rest is everything inbetween. I appreciate almost every song and can't help but wonder where some of the artists have gone, since I haven't heard of many in a long while. "U Will Know" was a popular hit on the charts that included many of the popular artists in the 90's (BMU - Black Men United), and now I can really appreciate the meaning of it now that I'm much older. "Forget I was a G" by the Whitehead Bros (another classic) was great and so is their CD (being the sons of the legendary, John Whitehead, you know they can sing), LSD has a smooth, chillin', rollin with the windows down, kind of song, Mint Condition (prime), KC (nice), Jamecia (kinky), J Quest (beautiful song, unfortunately he didin't make it big and his other recordings weren't very good)...and the list goes on. Unlike many modern songs that don't have much rhythm or melody, this is another example of music that all had great tunes -- some you want to sing to, some to bump to, and others that you want to relax to. I've almost completed buying all my favourite cd's that I've lost from the 90's, and this is one of the best. Grab this one and you'll see the value.
- I really love this CD. I had been wanting it for a long time I just play if over and over again.
Thanks
- i give this a four only because my favorite songs from the movie are not actually on the soundtrack. i love the song "little girl blue" by caron wheeler. and there is the song that plays when jason gives lyric the rose. WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME THE NAME OF THAT SONG! i love it! i will do just about anything to get it. it is soooooooo WOW. it reminds me of all of the good things in life.
