- Pretty much anything Dave Chappelle does is a big hit and this is no exception. The music from this concert is not the same old hip hop stuff you hear day in and day out. I love how I can now listen to this concert while I'm in the car.

5 comments about Con Air: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
- Con Air is a decent score, but a lot of the music is obnoxious noise that comes from electric guitars and synths. Mark Mancina and Trevor Rabin were members of the 80s rock group Yes before they cruised into the film scoring world and this score is perfect evidence of that. It sounds like a rock album in several places. The theme itself starts with a bunch of grinding noises and seques into a good theme played on electric guitar. "Trisha" is the only soft cue on the entire album, consisting of an acoustic guitar playing a soft, delicate theme. The rest of the music is pounding action music that can often get obnoxious and noisy. Some of it is good however, don't get me wrong. But for the most part it consists of loud, noisy synths, wailing electric guitars, pounding percussion, and an orchestra backing all of it up, which you can hardly tell there is one in parts due to the noise. "Overture" combines all of the themes into one 4 minute track to round off the score. Your best bet if you really want this score is to try to find it used like I did or unless you really, really like this kind of music, go out and get it. It does rock in some parts, but overall it didn't leave much of a positive impression on me. A decent 45 minutes listening's worth, but that's all.
- "Buckle Up" was the catchline for the movie Con Air. I wonder what for, but certainly they did not mean the music. The album disappoints me as much as the film did. The only positive thing I can bring up is that they disappoint me on the same issues.
Both are shallow, both are repetitive and both are unoriginal. Mancina has received several Academy Awards for his work on Disney films, and Trevor Rabin did appraising work for movies such as Armageddon. Little of that comes to the foreground here. There is no story to the music on the album, nor is it a compilation of suites. It never climaxes or breaks down. The themes do not evolve either, which would have done much good. Now and again, there are moments that "could be" - " might have been if this or if that", but the album fails hopelessly. Despite being a film-music and rock-music aficionado, there is not one sequence here that I could return to afterward. That is an admirable thing... ...but one star is the best I can do. Bram Janssen, The Netherlands
- This review refers to "Con Air: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack".....
"Con Air" was a terrific action-packed film, filled with top notch actors, edge of your seat moments, and even a little romance. The music though, is really something special. Composed by Mark Mancina and Trevor Rabin, it really captures the tense, blood pumping, moments of the story. Even on it's own,it's an album you can listen to and feel exhilareted by any time. I enjoy putting it on in the car, it will defintely keep you awake on those long and boring drives. All the tracks are instrumental, and if you have seen the movie, the music will have you recalling "The Con Air Theme","Lear Crash","The Takeover", "The Battle in The Boneyard" and the wonderful "Overture".(see buying info for complete track listings). The only thing that is missing from the soundtrack is the beautiful ballad,"How Can I Live". This song was a very big part of the romantic aspect of the film and should have been included. And afterall it was nominated at Oscar time for Best Song. For this reason alone I am going with 4 stars instead of 5. The music fills the room(or the car) and is joy to listen to.The drums (Lou Molino III) are a standout. There are 17 tracks in all. They range from an all to short "The Fight" at 0.22 to a breathtaking 7.41 min of "Battle in the BoneYard", most somewhere in betweeen. More thrilling than the film itself!(but missing the romance!) enjoy....Laurie
- ...and a good theme at that; surely what must be the reason anyone would purchase this score. The problem we run into, however, is that this score offers virtually 'nothing' beyond the theme itself, and the only reason I throw a two star rating at it is because the theme is so ridiculously pounded into the listener.
Mark Mancina and Trevor Rabin have both written some stellar music in their day (and from what I gather this is some 90% Rabin and minimal Mancina), but 'Con Air' really doesn't provide any of that. Rabin more than anything is a behemoth of a tunesmith, and his themes for later films, most notably 'Armageddon', or perhaps the unacknowledged but stunning theme for Arnold's sci-fi flop "The 6th Day", are highly enjoyable and in my opinion quite memorable. Many film music enthusiasts will lambast a composer like Rabin, for his lack of real orchestral interest and seemingly daft melodies or motifs, but what they seem to forget is that while Rabin's works aren't masterpieces of symphony, they 'are' awesomely lame, catchingly fun and downright ridiculous a good deal of the time. I myself would say that Rabin has never written one score that could truly be considered great, but I also admit to liking cheese in my music from time to time, and he has the tendency to offer up in spades. A good source of calcium, no doubt.
For those unaware, 'Con Air' was Rabin's first "big score" and therefore we get a composition that is premature from a composer that perhaps hasn't evolved past that description. So, the general sound of the work is awful -- ugly, grating synths combined with completely lifeless action cues that know not how to build to a climax or revert to anything emotionally substantial (the action highlight comes towards the end with "Fire Truck Chase"). When the theme comes to play, though -- and it does, at least ten times I'm guessing -- the score works because it's such an enticing and agreeable melody, and Rabin smartly opts to embelish it for all its worth, working in as many variations as you can possibly think of (many differing only slightly; the man doesn't have a bucket-full of ideas). The romantic "Trisha" gives way to a lovely rendition on simply a guitar (a pleasant change from the overwhelming electronic noises), while "The Discharge" puts jagged synths to good effect (for once), creating a rough, heroic ambience of glorified rubbish.
Like I said, Rabin is a phenomenal tunesmith when he wants to be, and the theme here carries itself across the finish line, even if it has to eventually crawl to get there. If you want to check out his most entertaining scores, I'd recommend "Armageddon", but after that I'm a bit blank, for most of them often follow the formula of 'Con Air' -- great theme, lesser score.
- Maybe this is the sort of noise that passes for soundtrack music that we can look forward to,if we hand over scoring chores to ex-rock musicians instead of hiring ESTABLISHED,QUALIFIED,COMPETENT CLASSICLY-TRAINED COMPOSERS...Sure,Goldsmith And Elmer Bernstein are dead,But James Horner,James Newton-Howard,Howard Shore, and a dozen other GOOD composers still live...So why give unqualified ex-rockers these jobs..Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced this film, put a lot of action and noise on-screen(but at least he hired good actors, like Nick Cage & John Malkovich, rather than turning the film over to the usual neandrathals like Stallone or Willis)...Perhaps Bruckheimer wanted a"score"(if it can even be called such)that was equal to the noise and mayhem created on-screen?But there is(or should be)a vast difference between writing music and making noise...Alas,on this album noise pre-dominates

5 comments about You've Got M@il: Original Motion Picture Score.
- The music in this album is wonderful. George Fenton brilliantly turns Kathleen Kelly's and Joe Fox's words and actions into music. When listening to the score you will easily picture the movie in your mind. The only downfall of this album is, it is way too short - just over 30min. Someone should have put both of the You've Got Mail soundtracks together on one album for a complete YGM experience. However, this light soundtrack is a must have for any collection.
- This CD is the filler music from the film. The background compositions the editor uses for transitions without dialog and occasionally under dialog. The absence of such music is what distinguishes an "English Movie" for people my age. It's pleasant music, and occasionally lively as befits the film, but not worth the trouble to buy as a separate CD.
The CD "You've Got Mail" (as opposed to "M@il" in this title) provides the eclectic mix of vocals from several performers that complement the actors' performances so well in this movie. Get that one, skip this one -- and watch the movie again to see if you can spot when these cuts are edited in behind the action. That's the best way to listen to them.
- New Orleans Jazz, 20's Jazz. When I was listening to this music along with my wife, we were expecting Randy Newman to cut in and start singing. It's not bad, but not our cup of tea. My favourite Fenton scores are Memphis Belle and Shadowlands. I love that English Classical Style.
- The soundtrack is like the movie: sweet, fun, uplifting, surprises around every corner, and worth enjoying many times. My older relatives adore it, and even still, I love it too, though most of the music is from an era other than my own, that is a testament to it's timelessness. I only regret the songs in the movie that were not included on the soundtrack, especially Never Smile at a Crocodile, sung by the Paulette Sisters. What a fun song right up there with the Puppy Song -- fresh, one I now sing to my children. So what if not every song is written with a homogenous audience in mind! This soundtrack is delightful!
- i love all these songs! They are so relaxing adn comforting. Great CD. Great elevator music

- I love this soundtrack. even though some of the songs (Rap) don't make any sense.
- The cd is tight, I really enjoyed the sample of t-shirt and panties. I don't like much (rap),but I would buy the cd cause some of the songs I like. There are maybe 10 songs that I actually like including the following: I will, Let it go, If I love you, Money, Bouncin', Take a ride, searchin(for your love),Jane meets Nore, and last but not least T-shirt & Panties. The songs I heard were slamin'. I wish I could get the lyrics to T-shirt and Panties, if that would be possible. Thanks Amazon.com your the greatest for music.
- The Album was o.k But T- shirt and Panties is the bomb cause It's tight no doubt about that. I got a question why don't they play it on the radio?
- I have always been a fan of the movie "Woo", but never picked up the soundtrack until recently. I thought I would only like about 2 songs on the whole CD, but found that it has a gold mine of material on it. The dialogue excerpts from the movie at the end of some of the songs is a nice touch. I bought this CD because of the songs by Nate Dogg/Warren G & Allure. There are so many more talented artists on the CD like Brownstone & Adina Howard with Jamie Fox & many more to list here. It's a must have for any R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap fans.
- Though I've never seen the movie the soundtrack is almost too good to be true. The soundtrack contains a lot of heavyhitters without too many fillers. Best foot forward by Adina Howard's sexy, seductive and tempting "T-Shirt & Panties" maybe the standout of the album. As Chico Debarge lend his "Superman" to steer another direction and feel to the soundtrack's success. There are two songs that put you right in the middle of the floor in a club is "Take A Ride" and "Bouncin'". But why should I try to convince you got get this, because if Adina Howard don't get you herself you'll miss out on a good ride.

- I don't understand how can they sell an lp like this to anyone???
- There are no words bad enough to discribe this CD!
- While urban hip-hop isn't what I typically listen to, I really like this album from start to finish. There are lots of R&B hits from the mid-90s like Last Night, Ain't No N**ga, and Ain't Nobody, a remix of Doin It from LL Cool J, and equally enjoyable lesser known songs like Pillow. Also notable is that it includes a variety of styles of hip-hop, from romantic ballads to dance to (relatively) hardcore rap. This is definitely a recommended compilation soundtrack.
- 1."TOUCH ME TEASE ME"-I have heard better songs from both of these people, I wish it would have been better.
2."I LIKE"-I kinda like this joint, it is pretty good 3."MY CREW CAN'T GO FOR THAT"-Pretty good, it isn't the best on this cd 4."AIN'T NOBODY"-FINALLY a song worth playing more then once. Monica and Naughty By Nature go good together, this is a classic joint 5."PILLOW"-THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM, Richie Rich, Dewayne Wiggins, and Rame Royal can create magic on the mic 6."LAST NIGHT"-No 7."COME AROUND"-It's ok, nothing special 8."WE WANT YO HANDS UP"-A beatiful song by Warren G and Malic, bumpin for sure 9."AIN'T NO NIGGA"-We all know this one, it's pretty good for jigga 10.BREAKER 1 BREAKER 2-NOT MY FAV. 11."DOIN IT AGAIN"-The remix of LL's classic song, it isn't as good 12."NASTY IMMIGRENTS"-It was only saved by the WU member, u know who 13."LOVE YOU DOWN"-The classic joint we all know and love thats it for now, 1
- I can't believe that they don't have the songs on here that are memorable from the movie. Like "I Feel Good" by James Brown and "Macho Man" by the Village People and "I'm So Excited" by the Pointer Sisters. Without those songs, it just doesn't seem completely correct.

- No Fugees, No Kanye West, No Talib Kweli "Get By" featuring Mos Def and Common. It's a good CD, but would have been so much better with these performances!
- The CD is an excellent summary of the live performances in the movie. The only disappointment are the performances not on the CD. Now I have to figure out where to get some of my favorite performances in the movie.
- I am a bit disappointed this album doesn't have one of the most serious scenes in the movie. When Cody ChesnuTT was singing acoustically even Dave Chappelle's face straightened as it was an emotional part per say of the movie. Other then that the cd is good, as other people have already stated the obvious of who was forgotten to be put on this soundtrack. They could have put more movie quotes/lines along with the performances like done with alot of soundtracks.
- I wish I could have been there at the actual block party, cuz daaaaang, they had fun. The CD is great too. The only thing missing is the last group to come out on the stage... Yes, The Fugees. I was in tears, they are so beautiful together. So I'd say the only thing I didn't like about the soundtrack is, that song shoulda been on there too. The rest of it was as great as the movie itself. Jill Scott, Black Star, Dead Prez; I love them all!!!
- I love all the songs on the album, I bought this after first watching the movie...It contains all the best hip hop/soul artists there that were involved but the one thing is that about each track has extra talk before or after the song actually plays...such as a few mins of dave chappelle and other music artists just chatting on the phone on 3 way or 4 way, it's really nonsense but you have to wait through it until the music/song actually starts...that's what I don't like about the album.

5 comments about Undercover Brother.
- This CD rocks. Anybody know why this movie was only in theaters for 2 weeks? It was so friggin good.
- this cd rocks. it has the best songs from the movie and they're good to sing along to. the best songs include " ladies night", "the theme song" and all of the funk songs. the only song i think should be on there is the famous "ebony and ivory" song which is sung by undercover brother as a dork and the white-she devil. but if you're looking for a well constructed soundtrack to a hilarious and classical movie, this is worth the money.
- There are some cool R&B and funk old school songs, but what's amusing is that the 'white' songs that appeared in the movie (*Nsync's "Here We Go" and Willa Ford's "I Wanna Be Bad") are absent, I suppose because they were only used in comical situations in the movie, and trying to be portrayed as bad music. Anyways. This is alright.
- I wanted the movie DVD but I got the CD instead. I am not happy.
- I went to high school and college in the seventies and the soundtrack from Undercover Brother was a lot of the music I listened to during that time and I really enjoyed hearing it again.

- What can I say, this soundtrack is alot better than the film. I recomend that you get this soundtrack. It has a lot of good 80's song in it.
- I have sooo many 80's songs (and love them all), that I didn't need another compilation, except there was a brief scene in the movie where two eastern men are riffing on the surf song "Riptide" on sitars... I loved that and would have bought this disc if it had been included. However, if you're looking for a decent 80s mix, this is a good place to start.
- The reason that I bought this soundtrack was to get Harvey Danger's "Save it for later"--great song. This album also has "Cruel to be kind" and a few other great songs you can sing to; however, overall would I recommend going out and buying the entire album if you don't need to--NO. Try and download the songs you like separately.
- Never saw the movie, but I found this sndtrk in a bargain bin and took it with me on my road trip back home. Super variety! No problem falling asleep in the car (I was singing!) I believe one or two from Devo assembled the score. No wonder it's sooooo cool!
Just for the record, some reviewers have it wrong. The song "Save It For Later" is by the English Beat; NOT Buddy Holly or General Public!! Sheesh. Check out "What Is Beat?" Great stuff there.
- I've always enjoyed Harvey Danger's rendition of "Save It For Later", The Cars' classic "Just What I Needed" and Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet." Today, I checked to see what else is on the album, but, to my dismay, Amazon posts only the song titles and NOT the artists. This is not particularly helpful, is it? Therefore, I took the liberty of looking these up on another website and posting them below.
-Elvis Costello---( So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding
-Dire Straits---Romeo And Juliet
-The Go-Go's---Our Lips Are Sealed
-Blondie---Blondie Medley: Rapture Exit Loud Allstar Rock Remix
-Nick Lowe---Cruel To Be Kind
-Blondie---In The Flesh
-The Cars---Just What I Needed
-Harvey Danger---Save It For Later
-Bow Wow Wow---I Want Candy
-The Ramones---I Don't Care
-Girls Against Boys---Boogie Wonderland
-Joe Jackson---It's Different For Girls
-B-Movie---Nowhere Girl
-Roxy Music---More Than This
-Kool & the Gang---Ladies Night

- I love this soundtrack. Its upbeat and happy. Fun to listen to in my shop.
- Great songs for an even greater movie. As well as Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan's performances, the artists included here really exceeded all expectations. Furthermore, I believe everybody should have a closer look at Sinead O'Connor's incredible performance in "I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City": specially since the 9/11 terrorist attacks this song has become even more touching every time you hear it.
- I'll be the first to concur with comments like "I love it," or "great mix of favorites." But "greatest soundtrack ever? That statement alone is purely subjective. This soundtrack even more. If there is one declaration that can be made without debate, it's that never has a movie depended more on it's soundtrack. The music and songs in this movie are vital to it's pulse. Though it's one of those movies that feels it's necessary to always have music running to some extent (the mark of a cheap feeling movie, mostly), it's quite necessary for this movie which lacks in writing. The music does a lot for the mood setting in this contrived, simplistic story, particularly in my opinion Carole King's closing ballad, "Anyone At All." Oh, I love this movie and own the DVD, and just got the soundtrack. But let's face it folks, this ain't Oscar material (for what THAT'S worth). This movie to me is one of those guilty pleasures. You know what you get going into it. And in that Nora Ephron (whose "Sleepless in Seattle" I detested) goes beyond the call, particularly at setting the mood of this movie, and the feel of the neighborhood where it largely takes place. Even if that does create a kind of Utopian version of New York City. And a large part of that is due to Ephron's choice of music. The flow of this movie is in the music. Even the most subtle of cuts- the 2-3 second Godfatheresque cut after Kinnear's response to Ryan's "You know what it means to go to the mattresses?", and the upbeat Godfather II-like piece that accompanies Ryan's shadow boxing behind the counter as she's (in her own way) preparing to fight for her store's life. But the music is great. Listening to the CD is visualizing the movie as you go about whatever you're doing. You can't listen to any cuts from this soundtrack and not picture the scene and dialogue. That's a good soundtrack. I'll always keep a copy of, oh, Black Sabbath's Greatest Hits right next to it in case any of my buddies happen by so I won't be ostracized. But when they're gone, I actually crank this.
- CD arrived safely and in a timely manner. An easy transaction. Thank you!

- I love sound tracks for the variety of artists showcased. This is a very enjoyable CD.
