  1. I LOVED THIS TAPE. LISA LAMPANELLI IS THE QUEEN OF MEAN...AND I LOVE HER!! THIS IS HER BEST DVD, I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANY LISA LAMPANELLI FAN OR ANYONE WHO HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR. i BOUGHT 3 OF THEM TO GIVE AS CHRISTMAS GIFTS. MY SISTER AND NIECE FELL IN LOVE WITH HER TOO. SO, TAKE A RIDE ON THE LAMPANELLI TRAIN...JUST BE SURE TO BUCKLE UP FIRST :)

  2. Lisa Lampanelli is easily one of the funniest people working the comedy circuit today. Her raw material takes the Don Rickles schtick into the 21st century, and this performance is a great example of what makes her so unique. Oh, and if you're offended by this material, you're not bright enough to get it.

  3. It's great when people can laugh at themselves and Lisa sure gives them the opportunity. She's pretty vulgar tho, so be prepared!!

  4. She is great in this DVD and she is great live. After watching this video my I was able to catch a live show of her in Sacramento and she was great. She doesn't look ver attractive on her videos but she is a really pretty woman in person. She was very nice and met with the fans and signed autographs after the show and she was very good looking, believe it or not.

  5. Call her whatever you want, Lisa Lampenelli is funny. Nobody is safe from her caustic humor. But, it's all in fun. A funny sidesplitting time is had by all. I'll watch this one again and again.

5 comments about Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
  1. My favorite kind of films are fake musician bios. There's SPINAL TAP, The RUTLES, Grace of My Heart, Almost Famous, That'll be the Day, Stardust, The Phantom of the Paradise, Eddie and the Dreamers, and now there's Walk Hard. Ostensibly a parody of the Johnny Cash biopic (Walk the Line) this movie is so much more.

There's a Bob Dylan parody that is not just done right, it's done perfectly! (mister zimmerman, did you secretly pen this one?) There is a Beatles/Acid/Animation sequence that had me falling on the floor. There is the ultimate in double entendre songs (Let's Duet) Doctor Demento would have loved to put this on in the Funny Five.

I could go on. This lampoon is painted so lovingly that sometimes it is actually poignant and scathing in the very same breath. It's low comedy with high purpose. It's music that will hang in your mind way after you stop laughing.

    It's all happening.

    persevere

  2. I had a bootleg copy of the movie but still went to see it in the theather after just watching a few moments. The unique thing is that I ordered the CD way prior to the movie release.
Once I heard Dan Bern was behind many of the songs that was all I needed.
The whole tone of the album and the dedication to the music of each era covered is amazing. The Dylan parody song could have been written by Bob himself.
A ton of heart and pride went into what could have been a throw away comedy song grouping. Instead it should win the Oscar for original musical score. Why? Because nothing the the movie music world has been this original in decades.

  3. If you like the Dewey Cox soundtrack (which is great, BTW), you have got to check out Dan Bern. Dan Bern wrote/co-wrote many of the songs. Dan's lyrical style is part Bob Dylan, part comedian. He's funny, he's real, he's political, he's Jewish, he's simply amazing. One of the best songwriters of this generation!

As for Walk Hard - check your scruples at the door and allow yourself to be thoroughly emersed in the hilarity of this movie. John C Reily is great, Jenna Fischer is great, the story is great, and the execution is excellent. I laughed so hard I cried from the first 30 seconds all the way until the end of the movie.

  4. For fans of the movie this soundtrack is a treat. If you liked Walk Hard then buying this is a no brainer! If you haven't seen the movie it's still worth giving it a listen for the awesome song writing and performing.

  5. The biggest -- and best -- joke about the "Dewey Cox" movie is that the music written for the film is really, really good. Actor John C. Reilly reveals striking musical talent, belting out hilarious pop parodies ghost-written by folks such as Dan Bern, Mike Viola and Charlie Wadhams. Several songs will hum around in your head for days, such as the Roy Orbisonesque "A Life Without You" and the double-entendre laden Johnny Cash/June Carter homage, "Let's Duet." I only wish I'd gone to see Reilly when he did some club dates when the movie first opened -- I bet he was hilarious! (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue music reviews)

5 comments about Rough Around the Edges: Live from Madison Square Garden.
  1. Dane Cook is probably one of the funniest guys out there in stand up. He has a way of telling a story that is so interesting and captivating - you are laughing before he even gets to the punchline. He is truly a gifted performer who is so at ease on the stage and so enjoyable to watch and listen to. If you love comedy, this is for you. But beware - if you are easily offended by bad language and explicit material, you won't enjoy this.

  2. Definitely not some of his best material but this DVD/CD was pretty funny during some parts.

  3. As a huge Dane Cook fan the only bad thing I could say is that a few of the tracks are somewhat repeats of older stuff... but for the most part he does it again with this one... Dane Cook is hilarious... "it's 5 f@&kin cents" ha... it's more the crowd who ruin his jokes/stories by laughing before he's even done talking...

  4. I've been a pretty hardcore Dane Cook fan since his breakout comedy routines only a few scant years ago. "Harmful if Swallowed" was spectacular. "Retaliation", was incredible. "Viscious Circle" was...okay. "Tourgasm" was awesome. Now we've got "Rough around the Edges". Unfortunately the name says it all.

This latest installment in Dane's standup is "Rough Around the Edges", and not nearly as good as it looks. Sure Dane can pack Madison Square Garden with fans but that doesn't do you any good if nobody can hear what you're saying. From the moment I put this CD on all I could hear was nothing but fans screaming where the mic was, which totally detracted from the show. I had to turn my volume down to bring the shrieking fans to an acceptable volume limit. Even then you could barely hear Dane through it all. The audio quality is just terrible. I mean, it's "really" bad.
Dane's material isn't all that bad, he does use a few of his older routines from some of his other CD's and such. It's good to sometimes "reference" a few of your better known jokes, but it's another thing entirely to repeat the same joke again, and again, and again.

    MY VOTE: Don't buy this.

Plain and simple, this isn't a CD, it's a drink coaster. Poor audio quality and a too quiet Dane, unfortunately, dooms this album.

  5. Dane Cook is the man. He talks about things we all go through and puts a comedic spin on life. I highly recommend this video.

5 comments about Young Frankenstein: The New Mel Brooks Musical.
  1. When you have watched the original with Gene Wilder and Madaline Kahn a dozen times, it is hard to not miss their fantastic performances, but the musical is still fun and enjoyable. If you haven't seen the original, you won't notice the difference and will laugh all the way through it.

  2. Having loved the score for The Producers, I finally broke down and bought this album despite all the negative reviews of the show. Just as the overwrought film version of The Producers blew most of the charm out of the original show, the original cast album of Young Frankenstein takes the same disasterous approach. A few good songs occur, almost by accident, but most of the score is pedestrian. However, the bigger problem lies in the nature of the original film. Young Frankenstein is a far subtler (and better) comedy, probably more a tribute to Gene Wilder's touch on the screenplay than Mel Brooks directorial hand. As such, the score for the musical works against the mood of the show rather than taking it to a new level as The Producers score did.

All in all, a colossal disappointment.

  3. When they decided to charge $375 for the top tickets, I decided that there was no way I was going to aid Mel Brooks and company in the destruction of broadway. (Disney is doing a pretty good job of that as well!) There is only one reason for those ticket prices..GREED! I don't care how good or bad Young Frankenstein is, I refuse to put money in their pockets, and that means staying away from the CD as well. From what I understand, the show is not doing so well and may not last until next fall..GOOD!

  4. At one point I had written a long review in regards to this CD, Amazon didn't like it because they said it included too many "personal opinions" so here is my "New" review:

    Orchestration - 2 stars - tinny sounding, karaoke-esque quality
Lyrics - 2 stars - Childish, stretching for rhymes, repetitious, un-funny
Vocal Quality - 3 stars - It was obvious that most of the actors "could" sing but were not used to their ability
Vocal Acting - 1 star - campy, corny, and accents that appeared and disappeared.

Final Review - 2 stars, this is a sad decline in the work of Mel Brooks.

  5. So how do you follow up "The Producers"? From the start, no matter how well the play is performed, it will always be compared to Mel Brooks's last play. "The Producers" was a critical and commercial smash, and it's hard to give a favorable comparison.

That being said, I felt the songs were underwhelming, lacking the punch of Brooks' earlier works on stage and in film. The lyrics range from the corny to the predictable, but that is not to say the score is without highlights.

Obviously "Puttin' on the Ritz" is by far the most enjoyable song. It's not a song by Brooks, but rather Berlin, and it succeeds in this context primarily to the monster's famous attempt to sing the title line. Other catchy songs are Sutton Foster gamily yodeling "Roll in the Hay," Andrea Martin's "He Vas my Boyfriend," and Megan Mullally's "Please Don't Touch Me," putting a fun twist on the we're-not-in-love song.

The lyrics are filled with double entendres that feel old, as if we've heard them several times before, most noticeably in "Deep Love." It has a very Borscht Belt style to it.

It's not a bad score, just not a very good one. They must hope that the love audiences have for the original film will carry over to the play.

5 comments about Monty Python's Spamalot (2005 Original Broadway Cast).
  1. My daughter saw this show during its pre-Broadway run and absolutely
loved it so much that she bought tickets for its return National tour.
This was the cast she enjoyed both times and plays it very often.

  2. This original cast album is absolutely hilarious! I purchased it because I will be attending a Broadway performance of Spamalot in April, and I wanted to get an idea of what to expect when I see the show live! Of course, I've been a fan of Monty Python humor for a long time, and loved the original movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, that this show is "lovingly" based on! The actors in the original Spamalot case are mad talented, and I'm excited about seeing this show live! I highly recommend this album for anyone looking for a taste of this high-energy and just plain silly-funny show!

  3. I don't care who or how old you are: if you don't laught at Spamalet you are probably dead. Not only is it funny, but the CD quality is excellent, the music is superb and the various singers' presentations are right on the mark. I personally recommend You Can't Make It On Broadway If You Haven't Any Jews! This particular patter song (in the time-honored tradition of Gilbert & Sullivan) is wildly funny, beautifully orchestrated and every word is crystal clear.

You simply can't go wrong with this CD.

  4. How can anyone not chuckle at most of this score? You can't help yourself, it's so inanely silly, yet some of the music is amazingly melodious and catchy. I found myself humming Always Look On the Bright Side of Life for days after listening to the CD. Totally infectious.
David Hyde Pierce performing You Won't Succeed On Broadway (If You Don't Have Any Jews) is completely irreverent, tasteless, and hysterically funny! Too many funny moments to list here. Don't look for high art (or for that matter good taste), take it for what it is, go with it and enjoy it!!

  5. Just saw it in Vegas! the show was excellent even though we got the understudy. The only thing i had a problem with was that we paid twice as much for the tickets to get these so-called VIP tickets that were incredibly lame. First we were suppose to get a grail souvener with a free drink in it. When we got there everyone had one and they were about 4 dollars. Plus the free drink was limited to soda or beer. We wished we bought regular tickets at this point. Then after the show we were suppose to be allowed backstage. the only person we got to meet was this twit of a dancer who called us retards because we were being so quiet. plus i really had to pee about midway thanks to the grail full of soda but i was stuck in the middle. Go but dont waste your money on VIP tickets

5 comments about A Concert for George.
  1. First of all. It's for George. So that is great.

George was great. He made up part of my band. The Beatles.
    Best that was ever.

The first bit of the concert is so good, but it is a bit long. Lots of long drawn out Indian Music. But it is good. Just long. So you might get bored a bit.

The best bit of the whole DVD, is when Paul comes on stage and does about two or three numbers. I loved that.

But the DVD, as well as the CD is great.

    And again.

If you are a Harrison fan, you must get it.

    So yes buy it.

It is a nice Tribute to a great fellow.

and just the fact that Paul and Ringo are there and playing on stage together is fab.

Ringo is on Drums, and Paul is on Guitar and Piano.

and the bit where they sing.

"While my Guitar Gently Weeps" with Ringo on Drums and Paul on Piano is "Fabulous".

That is a keeper for any Die hard Beatles Fan.

  2. "A Concert For George" is an absolute masterpiece of a tribute to a great artist and great man. It is difficult to find words to express the surpurlatives deserving of this DVD. I'm sure George Harrison was smiling over his friends as they performed his songs, and every time this DVD plays in someone's living room, George is smiling again.
The emotions dramatized by the artists participating in this utterly moving tribute to their beloved friend are electrifying and real. This DVD is hands-down my all time favorite. I had not been a great George Harrison fan until I watched this DVD and obseerved these musicians playing tribute to his brilliant body of work. I now recognize George's contribution to the Beatles music and the music world in general. I couldn't help but wonder if the power duo of McCartney-Lennon hadn't held him back, and what other amazing contributions he could have made to the Beatle's library had he been given the chance.
For example, I didn't know until watching this DVD that it was George who authored my favorite Beatles songs: "Here Comes the Sun," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Isn't It A Pity," and "Beware Of Darkness." When Eric Clapton sings "Beware of Darkness," only a cretin could watch this stirring performance and not be moved to tears. Billy Preston, singing his spine-tingling rendition of "Isn't It A Pity" is particularly poignant, as Billy also is no longer with us.
For a touching, spiritual experience, not to mention an opportunity to hear some of our finest musicians at their musical and spiritual height as they pay tribute to their beloved friend George, please check out this DVD. Read the details on Amazon regarding the many other exceptional artists participating in this project, (put together by George's dear friend, Eric) and the fabulous Harrison songs they cover. You'll not regret it. RIP, George.

  3. The version that played in the cinemas is nothing compared to the version on the video entitled "George's Band". This is hands down the best concert ever. Who would have thought of all the Beatles that the quiet one, George, could have spawned such a show? With the passing of the years and in the shadows of Lennon/McCartney, It has been easy to forget how many great songs George composed. That is until these great songs are performed with such respect and in such reverence by the likes of Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Billy Preston and many others of George's dearest friends. You won't believe what happens when egos are checked at the door and musicians of such caliber get together at the Royal Albert Hall to perform George's music with his son. It is truly remarkable. If you haven't seen "George's Band" on the DVD Concert for George you have missed the best show ever. It might bring a tear to your eye.

  4. Oh come on, I have bought this for a dozen of my friends and relatives. The beat throbs and the visuals fascinate. Actually it is much better than Harrison's originals. The only thing I regret about this disc is not being at the concert. Come on, buy this sucker and join me in a twice weekly airing.

  5. Great product, very high quality. It was wonderful to see so many extraordinary singers /artists playing beautful songs to George.

  1. I downloaded this for my husband who LOVES the show. It was a surprise and he said its even better than the show with the live music that is on it.

  2. These guys are weird and talented. The whole CD cracks just about everyone I know up.

  3. Fantastic the only thing better than this is the upcoming album, even my wife loves it and tries to sing along! The next album will definitely be getting five stars. This one would too but is just way to short, thats' the only drawback. So if you haven't bought this one yet Don't! Wait till the full album comes out, run to the store, order it from here just get it anyway you can.

  4. These songs are hilarious. However, a couple of my husband & I's favorites from the first season are not on it. :(

  5. Love the band, the songs. So funny and great music.

  1. Dress to Kill
I've been looking for this DVD forever. I saw this show when it was released on HBO. It won't disapoint! All I can really say is your going to need a flag, a little splashy, splashy. Highly recommend!

  2. His bits, while not always gut-wrenchingly funny, are always entertaining. Izzard really knows how to stimulate the audience's imagination, and it seems like at least half of his material is being created while on stage. This, of course, is most likely not the case. However, it speaks to his genius. Pay special attention to his Star Wars and Church of England routines. Good Stuff. "Do you have a flag?"

  3. Every time I watch this video, I find something new I missed, Eddie is so funny, I never get tired of watching him, I highly recommend this video to anyone who likes good clean comedy. IMJ San Mateo

  4. This comedy video is hilarious! It can be watch over and over again by yourself or with friends. My friends and I do comedy bits from this show all the time. I strongly recommend.

  5. Entertaining, intellectual, and funny. A must see, especially if you are a lover of comedy, and history.

  1. My kids love this CD! Came on time, was a fair price and plays great. A+ seller!

  2. this is a perfect cd for children it's funny, and he music it's awesome, you should have this cd for your kid...he would love it like mine....

  3. This is an excellent audio CD and it is worth every penny. All the songs are great and entertaining. This orginal audio sountrack incorporates both the classics as well as the latest hip songs with a kick and an excellent beat to it. I normally do not listen to rap music but some of the rap songs done by the Chipmunks in this CD are just so entertaining and fun, and most of all, its clean unlike rap music these days. I grew up with Alvin and the Chipmunks and I still love them now. I am so glad they are back!!! They are just so cute, lovable, adorable and irresistible...they always make me smile...I even bought the DVD for keepsake. Hurray to the Chipmunk Boys, great work!

  4. This is a great cd! I don't normally buy soundtracks but this one was too good to miss.

After watching the movie and hearing the music, the whole family decided that this was a must have. The cd includes the updated version, as well as the original version, of the Witchdoctor song.

It is a hip hopping family friendly cd. Way to go, Alvin & Co. !

  5. I am 48 yrs old and I love both, the movie and the soundtrack CD. I play it when I'm feeling a little down and need to feel silly. I've had the CD for a month now and it still makes me laugh and giggle. Terrific CD to take to work to play when you have to be in your office on a weekend and you are all by yourself. It will cheer you up - doesn't matter if you are a kid or if you are a grown up kid.

5 comments about Flight of the Conchords.
  1. First up, after reading the other reviews, I have to say I LIKE "Leggy Blonde"! Esp. that part Jemaine breaks into before the end of the song!

I am noticing alot of musical things about the songs that I missed when just watching the show episodes over and over, for instance, I never realized that "Inner City Pressure" is a pastiche of the Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls", even tho I knew there was something very familiar niggling away at my brain whenever I heard the song.

Without the distraction of actually watching the guys, I can really appreciate how clever the lyrics are, and the instrumentation. I'm just in awe of these guys.

I also miss "Frodo, Don't Wear the Ring", one of the funniest things I ever watched/listened to.

I would recommend the EP THE DISTANT FUTURE as a necessary companion to this CD.

But really, no major complaints, and I don't think many others are complaining too much either, judging by how very popular this disc is in all the various ways one can buy it.

I'd rather complain about the lack of extras on the first season's DVD,and maybe hope for a follow-up to include some of the missing songs. And wouldn't it have been nice to have "Doggy Bounce" as a hidden track?

  2. Let me start off by saying, I do agree with most of the reviewers that this album feels a bit to polished to keep 100% of the charm of the Conchords, but I also do highly recommend it. I played some of the tracks for some friends that had never heard of FOTC and they still laughed and enjoyed the songs. I also would have liked to have seen a few more, well all, songs on this album, but I understand a bit about marketing and traditional CD length as well to realize that it is not too likely to have everything on one CD. I think there may be a second CD coming out in the future, or possibly they were left off to get you to buy the series.
All in all, I really enjoy this album, I also have their Distant Future album which includes some of the same songs some of which are done live, some not. I recommend them both as a set to get the full experience, or if you are buying for a FOTC fan.

  3. Like many of the other reviewers on here, I absolutely love FOTC and was eagerly anticipating this album. Alas, there is no new material on it and these studio recordings sound a bit too polished and really don't seem as fun as the live versions or the ones from the actual show. There are also some glaring song omissions ("Sello Tape", "Bret you got it goin' on", and the truly great "If you're into it" are all missing). But on the plus side, it's still wonderfully funny and catchy stuff. Moreover, the artwork and cd packaging are simply delightful and it comes with a nifty poster to proudly display in your home or office! Huzzah!

  4. While Summer 07 was all about Rhianna (I still can't get 'ella 'ella out of my head...but I don't mind that), Summer 08 is all about The Conchords. For fans of the HBO series and YouTube clips, this collection is just what you (and I) need as a precusor to season 2. For those uninitiated, the songs are great satires of the R&B, disco, pop, and world music genres. However, the songs are more than just funny, silly songs. Listen to "Ladies of the Worlds," and you'll hear the soft, political stylings of a anti-war ballad. Listen to "Inner City Pressure" and "Think About It," and you'll see a glimpse into the futility of life in the city. And "Business Time" is the best pre-making love song since Sade graced the airwaves in the 80s.

One quip: where is "Frodo, Don't Wear The Ring"?

Will everyone like "Flight of the Conchords"? Well, the right people will understand and appreciate the music. And isn't that more important than mass-market, big box store acceptence? It's already a hit in the digital download world. Plus, their concert in Denver is already sold out for May 08.

Brett and Jermaine are superb singer-songwriters, to boot.

    More Conchords, please.

  5. As many of you Flight of the Conchords fans know, these guys really know how to make people laugh through their HBO television show and their random songs that appear in their show. Unfortunately this is a CD and you can only hear them. That being said this is a funny and good album that was put out by these guys. Unfortunately, they left out some of the ones that I would have never thought that they would omit. There are 4 songs that were not on this CD that I was really excited for but they were not there. These included: If You're Into It, Albi the Racist Dragon, Bret You Got It Goin On, Sello Tape, and Jenny. These are 5 songs that I really enjoyed listening to when I get the chance but I don't get to enjoy them because they are not on the CD. I have also found that even though this is only a CD and it is funnier when you see them singing their song on the episodes with their facial expressions, I often can imagine that while I listen to them. It created a funny image and makes the songs better. Unfortunately if you can't do this when you just listen to music this will not help you.

Overall I would rate this CD as good, but still missing some pieces. If they had put in the 5 songs that I listed earlier, it would have made for a much better CD.
