5 comments about Electrifying Time: Telechron and Ge Clocks 1925-55 (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
  1. What an incredible book! Mr. Linz presents the History of the Warren-Telechron Company in an interesting, yet not burdensome fashion. Using photographs of the literally hundreds of models made until the company's demise, the author takes you from the heavy Cathedral-Style through the Deco era and into "space-age" design of the 50's and early 60's.

I'll wage a bet that if you don't have a Telechron, someone in your family probably does. This book will make a fan out of anyone who is remotely interested in design. There's literally a Telechron for anyone's decor!

  2. This book was recommended to me by a friend who said he thought I might find it interesting. My mother used to work for Telechron and G.E. making clocks. Now, after reading this book I have a better idea what she did all day while I was at school! If you know anyone who worked for Telechron, this book would be a great gift. I even got the courage to look at a couple of broken clocks I had lying around with the help of the repair section. I think I'm going to get one of these working again!

  3. This is a well done book with tons of photos and lots of literature and obscure facts on Warren Telechron. The only thing I found a little dissapointing was the clocks themselves. A few are fabulous, scarce and expensive but the majority are rather conservative and dull. Still, an excellent piece of research.

  4. The book contains a lot of good history on the company, the founder, and the advertising/promotion meterials. The section on the "designers" gets a little boring. The section on repairing/restoring is interesting and has some good information. There is not a lot of depth to it but for most people, it is more than you'll need. I like the model look up list in the back. The price guide will soon go out of date though, and some of the color photos of the various clocks are horribly green. Overall it's a good book and well worth buying if you are a Telechron enthusiast.

  5. This book is wonderful. It has a lot of colored photographs and is a great reference book. It is worth the money.

  1. Great book. Very detailled describing the beginning of french clockmakers and their history. Helped me just today in finding a wondeful original french clock at an antique market. Highly recommend.

5 comments about Wristwatch Annual 2001 (Wristwatch Annual, 2001).
  1. This is a great guide to learn your way around the fascinating World of watch collecting! This book includes all the "major" players in the watch industry - but unfortunately, it does not include some of the smaller "houses" (i.e. manufacturers).

I was surprised to read that it included some non-European makers like some from the USA.

One thing I noticed is that the book has several errors, just try matching some of the photos with the descriptions provided and you'll see what I mean! For the publishers and editors: get some quality control, pleeeaaasse!

I recommend it for the beginner and the advance watch collectors.

And yes, I do agree with another reviewer, there's no such thing as too many watches! :-)

  3. I've bought each issue since I got interested in watches in 2000, even though the contents change very little from year to year. Another shortcoming of the annual is that the price information is neither complete nor accurate - you can usually get significant discounts on many of the watches featured. Nevertheless, it is great fun just to look at, and read about watches that I can only drool over :-P

  4. This is an excellent tool if your a collector, admirer, in the biz or anyone considering a watch purchase. An incredible reference tool, great in helping one narrow down their likes and dislikes...my 3rd year in a row. There are a couple of others...however this one is the most objective and useful.

  5. I am new to the hobby of horology and enjoy owning this book. It provides a lot of detail and good photos of all the major brands (the competing buying guides leave out some significant brands). Well done and worth buying BEFORE you spend 30 times its price (or more!) on a watch. See the different styles and open your eyes. Take the TIME to appreciate it!

  1. it would be perfect. As it is now, its just a (huge) coffee table book of very nice closeup pics of watches.

  2. Stunning photography, great close-up detail, and thorough descriptions, makes this book a work of art, and an absolute must for any watch enthusiast.

  3. This volume gives little text but loads of glossy photos of the inner workings (and outer beauty) of fine Swiss mechanical movement watches. These pictures are enough to send most watch afficianados into a frenzy. Take it from me. I'm married to one and he didn't put this book down for about two weeks. It was drooled over every chance he got. If you have one of these (watch nuts) at home, you may want to order this, as it will keep them out of your hair for the next couple of weeks and you can get things done. It also makes them more amenable to your suggestions. Have fun!

  1. This book is a resume of what is written on the brilliant book of David Landes, Revolution in Time. It has a huge amount of photos, and worths every peny paid.
The book, as mentioned by the reader above, does not cover American Watches history in depth. Even tought, is a very good book.
