  1. I really like the format, usually get the new one when it's released.

  2. The photography alone of these world class timepieces brings out the male urge to splurge. It's like being a kid in a candy store, you want one of everything! I've read the '05 and '06 editions and this one does not disappoint. Nice feature: a guide to the pronunciation of all those Swiss, German and French names. Even if you don't speak any of those languages you can say the names like a native. Any watch aficionado will spend many delightful hours soaking up all the facts, figures and history presented here.

  3. Great pictures, a must for any watch enthusiast. Side note. Some of the actual specifications are not accurate.

  4. I bought this just to see all the awesome watches out there. Some of these are in the hundred thousands. Wow. Great pictures and company info. If you enjoy watches in the least you must own this catalog its huge and has hundreds of pictures of watches you will never own, unless you have a few hundred thousand sitting around.

  5. This is book is great. It lists a lot of world high-end watches from 2007. Although I don't have money to buy them now. At least I can look at it as a gallary book.

  1. Purchased to study projectile points. I was not disapointed with the packed information and photos on this subject. Used as well, as a price guide for collectors, I none the less use it as a reference manual. It lists point artifacts from each part of the country broken down in groups of states. It then shows most of what is common for that area as far as shapes, sizes, etc. It is a good guide for the beginner to learn both projectile shapes and nomenclature. I carry it as a supplement to other books on archaeology and prehistoric American Native studies.............

  2. This book and the whole collection of Overstreet guides are a unsubstantiated ruse! DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. The author seeks to mislead and misdirect the general public by putting a monetary price on human history. is the value of an artifact monetary? Can riches be made from stealing the history of the public? This book would like you to think so.

One large discrimination of this book is the fact that the prices within are set by a bunch of country yahoos sitting around a swap meet, spitting tabacky into priceless ming vases. The fact that there is little mention of the money it may cost you if you collect artifacts on public land and the fact that looting significant archaeological sites for arrowheads can land your butt in jail, is barely mentioned.

Do yourself a favor, take a class in archaeology from your local junior college, pick up the Bruce Bradley video called Flintknapping or Andrefsky's lithic book from Cambridge and start making your own arrowheads. Then go to your local swap meet and sale them to dumbasses that buy this book!

Remember price is only what you can get some country bumpkin to give you for an arrowhead, and looting sites on public or private land will only land you in jail, or even worse get you filled with lead from an angry landowner.

  3. I bought this book to figure-out the monetary value of pot hunted artifacts, in order to change pothunters of federal and state crimes. Very informative. Thank you.

  4. Despite the emotional opinions of some, on the whole monetary value issue, I found this book to be quite a valuable reference guide in terms of tool typing, and assessing style variations and aiding in establishing era. In fact I've not seen a more comprehensive reference guide. In addition to this being a fine guide for the collector, it is also a nice reference for the amateur or serious archeologist. I have participated in several responsible, (academic), archaeological digs and have witnessed more than one academic reference this book for regional typing purposes.

The issue of affixing value to antiquities is always subjective (and it is reality on a Global scale) I believe the author is simply providing a range of what collectors have paid for certain examples. Again, this may be useful information to some collectors, or for Museum curators in establishing the 'street' value of collections for insurance purposes.

  5. Since there are few references available on point types, this was added to my reference library. Disregarding the prices, for the types, descriptions, etc. I have the Texas type book also. What puzzles me is why Overstreet has listed some types for Texas, which are not covered in the current Texas book, nor any of the old books (and I have them back to the second or so book from the 1960s). Example is the Texas point type Overstreet calls Edwards. Not in any other Texas books I find. No explanation by Overstreet. Not a bad reference for types, just wish there was a better one available, more akin to the 1960s book from Texas.

5 comments about Wristwatch Annual 2006: The Catalog Of Producers, Prices, Models And Specifications.
  1. Do not expect to find quartz electronic watches from the orient here. This is a catalog of the finest in traditional watch design from Europe, primarily Switzerland, Germany and France. Here are watches that are the ultimate in design, both mechanically and artistically. They are also the ultimate in price, intended for the well to do who wants to make a fashion statement that is also a supurb timekeeper. (I don't know the most expensive watch in the book, but the highest priced one I found was $783,100.)

The book is organized by manufacturer and gives the highlights of their current product line. It is profusely illustrated with color photographs on virtually every page. Of course not every watch of every manufacturer could be included on a book of any size. But then again, that's what the web is for.

  2. After years of buying the equivalent in French and German, this is definitely the best guide, very complete, very well written. The prices are in US$, though. The most expensive watch, a Vacheron Constantin. 1.6 million dollars, production is limited to 7 watches. The mind boggles!

  3. I found the catalog very limited. A review should include all products available from a manufacturer or list variations of products displayed. For example, a watch made of stainless steel is also available and not just white gold.

  4. Of course you can't include everything, but these annuals usually have some glaring omissions of watch lines, particularly American made.

  5. A wonderful resource book, exhaustive coverage of big and small wristwatch producers. This is a commercial book and all company's are written about favorably (not reality). One is best to research products/reviews online in addition to get a true picture of the products represented in this book. This is the best in my opinion of the watch annual books.

The strengths are: clear listing of all watch specs, often interesting blurb about each company, pronunciation list, company contact info, additional resource list (forums, dealers, etc.). Annual does not change that much yearly, might try buying last years annual and saving about 50% for very similar content.

    Enjoy this wonderfully rich subject.

  1. Not worth the money unless you like pictures. Needs more technical background information on the various watches.

  2. Big book, full color photos, explanations of all the majoy watch works. Perfect for any watch affectionado.

  3. The book arrived on time, in perfect condition and it is a great gift for somebody who enjoys watches.

  4. Grand Complications Volume III: High Quality Watchmaking (Grand Complications)
This was my second purchase of these mostly high quality photograph compendiums of examples of famous brands' masterpieces. These pictures are divided into groups, based on the types of complications( the things the wristwatches do with mechanical parts in addition to telling time)they display. Between each grouping is a well written essay about that kind of watch function, and how to tell the characteristics that collecters look for and prize. The authors of these articles are usually famous makers of fine timepieces and use their own work to illustrate what they write about. I enjoy reading about making horological art, but I get my most fun from using a good magnifying glass to examine each photo to see how they made every detail. It is the careful research into the various imaginative ways of solving microengineering problems, and how to align the discovered solutions with the philosophic and artistic principles professed by company spokesmen and examples of past work that make studying watch collecting so interesting. Any person looking through this book will easily see why some companies are famous. The more a person learns about how quality work is different from the common cheap watch, the greater facination and amazement grows. You see, for every difficulty there are many solutions for good engineers and artisans to choose and express. Different companies have traditions about how each decides. That is what makes each brand recognizable. This book is better than volume 2, that I bought last year and still keep close. I have other books by the same company that have more words than pictures, and I like both ways of learning.

  1. Not a very up to date book on watch repair. There are also very few pictures/diagrams available. For those wanting to buy a book about watch repair at a beginners level, I'd suggest you look elsewhere.

  2. I don't agree with the last review. This book has to be viewed as a complement, a second volume, to Practical Watch Repairing of the same author. You have to read the first book to fully understand it. If you look at this book as a second volume of the classic Practical Watch Repairing, it deserves 4 stars. It does not cover new automatic movements from the 70s and 80s, but every automatic system used by the industry is documented. Well, if you can repair an ETA or Omega from the 50s or 60s, you can repair a movement from the 80s and 90s. That's my point of view.

  1. Well done reference book for Military Horologists. It is the first illustrated guide devoted specifically to the highly collectable field of military watches and clocks. Covers deck watches, pocket, wrist and clocks. Current prices are provided (in Sterling) for timepieces covered. This book is highly recommended to all fellow military timepiece collectors! -- Chris, chronometer.net

  3. A good concise book with lots of quality pictures and and idea of value in sterling. A worthwhile investment for collectors. My only complaint is that it is almost completely dedicated to watches. Only a small section in the back gives any information about all the ship's, tank, airplane and other clocks of military interest.

  4. -In my opinion, is an interesting book about military watches. All the explanation are good and is simple to reed.I dindn't find much information about german pilot watch of the second war two: not much about Hanhart and others watches. The same for german watches of werhmacht; you can find information about in my opinion could be longer. In general, i think is a very interesting book!!!

  5. A nice book, with good photos and useful information. I am a beginner in this area, but I have to admit that the book has a lot to offer. Of course there are enough watches missing, but it is an overall good work. The prices seem to be out-of-date.
    Highly recommended, though!
