- I just finished reading THIMBLE THOUGHTS by Nanu for the second time, and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it both times. The book THIMBLE THOUGHTS is a collection of over seventy short essays or poems covering a great variety of subjects. Most of these poems are one to two pages in length. Some of the essays or poems are very profound and deep, and some of them are very light and even humorous. Each of these short essays or poems is a delight to read and ponder. Some of the more profound ones are entitled: "Compassion", "Freedom", "Heroes", "Jealousy", "Optimism", "Talent" and "Trust". On the other hand, those that are lighter have names such as: "Balloons", "Candy", "Circus" and "Vacation". There are ones which have a very personal nature in which the author relates his own experiences in a way with which all of us can relate. Some of these are named: "Believe in me!", "Don't Let Go!", "Home", "In Love!", "Little Bird", "Only with you" and "We can make it!".
Any of these short writings can be considered poems in the same sense as Walt Whitman's poems in LEAVES OF GRASS. These poems or short pieces can be read in any order. One feature of this book is that the nearly one hundred sixty pages are not numbered. This is one of many little touches which make the book a reflective and relaxing read. This book is a refreshing escape from the hurrying and competitiveness of modern life. In the back of the book the author explains about his unusual name, which is Nanu. The book has small drawings sprinkled throughout which give it a nice touch. The drawings are by the author's daughter, Deepa. The essay with which the book begins is entitled "America, you're beautiful!". It brought tears to my eyes because of the depth of feeling expressed in it. I give the book THIMBLE THOUGHTS the highest rating possible, five stars.
