1. My husband is a beginner at stamp collecting as a hobby. This little book is fantastic. It numbers all your stamps, in a easy to read format. We had been to a stamp and coin store, the week before. We bought a book that was sugested by the store clerk and spent well over $50.00. This little book is just as good, if not better.At a very GOOD Price. Thanks, Amazon!



2. Reference index excellent for cataloging stamps. The spiral binding is great for being able to open the book and compare the page information against the stamp in hand! Recommend it for all stamp collecting fans



3. The USPS Guide to US stamps is the best illustrated and best priced general guide to US stamps. Specialists will want more specific information, but for the general collector the info here is quite adequate, and the color photos are very helpful. It's easy to use, too, and affordable. It fills its niche in philatelic reference material quite adequately.

5. The Postal Service Guide provides an excellent opportunity to get a ballpark value of an existing collection or to fantasize about your next purchase. Any stamp collector should find this guide a helpful tool. Stamps are pictured in color with information regarding date of issue, value and description.

1. As a lifelong stamp collector specializing in older stamps world-wide, I appreciate having all countries covered from the beginning of stamps 1840 through 1940 in one book. To purchase all 7 or 8 volumes of the regular Scott catalogue would cost many hundreds of dollars. I had this same catalogue for 2000 but that was black & white, it is now in full color! Very Happy!



2. I have found the book to be easy to navigate through and to obtain stamp values. The information about stamps is very informative however I was not able to find information on Winnipeg tagging or phosphor tagged stamp issues. Overall, I think that it is a very good issue.

1. Why spend money on a book that gives values for stamps that are 3 to 5 times higher than the stamps sell for every day of the week on E-bay? This book is a complete waste of money and has lost touch with all reality!



2. The Scott stamp catalogs are the bible of postage stamp apraising. No other publication brings together such a wealth of virtually universal stamp knowledge and pricing. While the prices that Scott uses may not especially match current market they are fairly consistant and most dealers base their prices on a flat percentage of Scott therefore making it a good reference point.

1. This is a wonderful book that reflects society and postal history on a parallel through time. Check out the section on the dog that was a mascot and traveled all across the world via airplane and earned his own medals! I learned a lot about our postal system and the photos were great. This was purchased for my husband who collects stamps. He really enjoyed reading about the "other" side of stamps.



2. "An American Postal Portrait" is a visually engrossing cultural history of the postal service. My father, a letter carrier in Kansas, was fascinated. It renewed the pride he feels in his job. It was a positive reminder that despite our techno age's slurs against "snail mail," the image of the letter carrier remains a powerful cultural--human--image. The book is a reminder that "technological advances" are poor substitutes for the power of human interaction. This book would be the perfect gift for anyone you know who proudly labors to ensure that our country's mail will be delivered despite rain, or sleet, or snow....
