5 comments about Collecting Simpsons! An Un Guide to Merchandise from The Simpsons.
  1. I've been collecting Simpsons memorabilia for several years and have been following the Collecting Simpsons website since just after its inception. I can unequivocally say that Bill LaRue's book is AWESOME! Whether you are a beginner to the hobby or a veteran looking for some new collecting inspiration, this book covers Simpsons collectibles like no other written material available. The book is fun and easy to read, well organized and practically updated for free through the website. It's a must have for any Simpsons fan.

  2. Instead of History 101 this is SIMPSONS COLLECTING 101. It is a very well written, and highly entertaining book, for anyone who knows THE SIMPSONS are not related to OJ! It's not your basic "collecting book" but much more. Just an all around great book that makes me want to shout WOO HOO!

  3. Lots of effort, research and love for the hobby has made this book as excellent as it is. It's obvious that this piece is written by a true fan, which makes it all the more interesting. The book takes an exhausting look at the variety of Simpsons merchandise, with hundreds of photos and pricing information. I've never considered myself a collector, but browsing through the pages of this book made me want more items I can ever afford to buy. That's why having this guide is a nice substitute for having the real things.

  4. ...the first thing I see is that the front cover picture is all blurry. Plus the photos inside are all black and white. "worst book ever" as the comic book guy would say.

  5. oh my god, this is litteraly the best book i have ever read. this william guy knows his stuff. i heard is son is one of the top basketball players in the country.

5 comments about The Complete Book of Doo-Wop.
  1. an upgrade of "doo wop the forgotten 3rd". many entries of long forgotten groups & songs.one of the few to correctly list "glory of love" by the imperials as a SEPERATE group from the little anthony group.tons of good information, song titles, release year, artist & lable(s).plus info on various subjects such as ,doo-wogeography,idiosyncrasies of doo-wopgroup her-mony(the 20 best doo wop songs with female leads, and much more.if you don't have this book YOUR missing out.

  2. I've been collecting records for many years. My teenage years were in the 50s. As I got older, and collected more records, I decided I wanted to record them onto cassettes in chronological order. For this I needed reference books. Throughout the years I've collected many helpful reference books, and this book is at the top of my list. I still use it a lot because I am currently adding my records and tapes to my computer, and this reference book has helped in the way I list the groups. One of the best things is that they separate groups with the same names, or the same group with different lead singers, etc. The only complaint I have with this book is that it doesn't have the songs listed alphabetically. That would help so much if I have a song, and don't know what group it comes from.

I recommend this book, and will buy the undated copy as well.

  3. this book is a must if your a doo wop lover.you can learn about group harmony , the evolution of doo wop from rockabilly,r& b , and a great many idiosyncrasies of the music itself.plus there is a songography that lists almost every group you can think of & the records(flips too)they recorded, dates, label & often the lead singers name.i've yet to find the ONE book that gives me all the information i want. but i've gotta say the combination of this and "the encyclopedia of rhythm & blues and doo wop vocal groups" by m.rosalsky come VERY close.worth every penny folks, both books are "must haves".

  4. It will hardly be a surprise, but serious music lovers and historians will find little value in this book. The authors are simply two nostalgic fans whose idea of music in the fifties owes more to "Grease" and Sha-Na-Na than to actual research. Those interested in this musical repertoire are advised to check out They All Sang on the Corner: A Second Look at New York City's Rhythm and Blues Vocal Groups or Group Harmony: The Black Urban Roots of Rhythm & Blues.

  5. I must admit that this is not my favorite "Doo Wop" book. I disagreed with too many of the author's points. However, the book does have merit! I especially enjoyed the groupography. I am not sure one can classify doo wop into neat catagories as the author's have done. Doo Wop was just so much more than a catagory. However, if you are "into" the music read the book.

1 comments about 20th Century Rock & Roll-Women in Rock (20th Century Rock and Roll).
  1. I'm a freelance music journalist who does a lot of writing about women in rock. This book scores very highly with me based on range, subject, and knowledge of the individuals covered.

The author divides the book into a section devoted to the 50 women who have defined rock and roll, with a short essay on each, and a recommended discography. I like the selection much better than some books (including the truly disappointing Rolling Stone Book of Women in Rock). He doesn't include ALL the artists I consider essential, but that's a personal matter. I think he did a very good job, with a range from the obvious choices like Joan Jett and Tina Turner to more obscure but important artists like Lita Ford and Suzi Quatro.

He includes several appendixes with info on all-girl bands, all-girl groups (singers as opposed to instrumentalists) and spotlights on frontwomen of renown, ranging from superstars like Stevie Nicks to the cult heroines like Christina Amphlett and Doro Pesch.

This is a book to give people who don't know much about the subject, or to throw at people who say "women can't rock."

It's not a historical survey (though the author recommends several books, including the one I think of as the definitive volume, Gillian G. Gaar's "She's a Rebel"), but it's a very good basic reference volume.

  1. If you are into collecting Christmas Music of every variety whether traditional, pop, rock, etc.than this is the book for you! It lists every artist who ever recorded Christmas songs and hymns, and it also gives a listing of the worth of the original vinyl record(according to the condition of it,of course). A fun book to browse through even if you just want to see what's out there & perhaps to make some additions to your collection.

  2. Even during the off season I find myself thumbing through this book, it's a great source of information on collecting rare, hard to find holiday records. Plenty of singles and albums are listed that are worth hundreds of dollars if they're in mint condition and have a picture sleeve cover. It is also fun to look up the names of favorite artists & groups to see what, if any, holiday tunes they may have recorded. So next time you're cleaning out your attic, basement or in back of your closet, if you come across an old box or bin of 45s and/or albums-poke through, you never know if some hidden treasure is in there, and not just Christmas music either! Tim Neely has a few Goldmine Collectors guides out there and all are tops. Very highly recommended.

  3. Goldmine's Neely has once again produced a gem of a book, this time focusing on the oft-neglected niche of Christmas music. Well documented, with lots of color glossy pages of rare album covers, this is a must-have for those of you addicted to holiday vinyl.
The book's only shortcomings: (1) It has now been almost seven years since its publication, it would be nice if Goldmine would issue an updated version of the book every few years to update its content; and (2) the book contains few international titles, of which there are hundreds if not thousands, particularly from the Western European countries (where most of our modern-day Christmas celebration traditions originated!). It would be nice to see more of them incorporated into a future edition.
Well organized and written by someone who obviously is passionate about the genre, I highly recommend this publication.

1 comments about The Beatles Digest (2nd Edition).
  1. Black-and-white vintage photographs illustrate this new and updated second edition of The Beatles Digest, a treasure trove of history, essays, interviews, price guides to collectible items, and more concerning this enduringly popular music phenomena called The Beatles. Extensive indexes and a wealth of cross-referenced information help make The Beatles Digest as much of a reference tool for American Popular Music Studies, as it is an accurate guide to Beatles collectibles, and a fascinating glimpse into the lives and work of the four talented men who made the Beatles a household word around the world.

  1. This book is layed out simply; gives understandable instructions on its' use; and two different examples. Great way to catalog your collection and also to have a record of the number, type and value of your collection for insurance purposes should anything (ie. fire, theft) happen to your collection.Note: You would then want to store your book in a firesafe place!
