5 comments about The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs.
- _The Leaf Men_ tells of an elderly woman who is sick and cannot tend her garden, which is dying. In order to save the plants (and by extension, the old woman), the Brave, Good Bugs have to embark on a journey to call the Leaf Men to restore health to plants and people alike. Subtly teaching the importance of perseverence, cooperation and compassion, both the woman and her garden are saved. A wonderful story with beautifu (and subtle) artwork - look carefully, as there are "hidden" clues and secrets in Joyce's artwork. A favorite in my home. Recommended for children ages 4 - 7.
- I bought this book when it came out. Being an avid William Joyce fan I was excited and could not wait till I got home to read the whole book. The illustrations and the story are top notch. Classic William Joyce and one of the last ones that he has done as a whole book with painted illustrations. Since then he got into the 3-D thing that didn't quite do it for me and I've not bought any of the Rollie Pollie books. Sorry Bill. However, the good news is that he has been working on some very interesting projects and I hope to see more soon. I think every die hard fan of his wishes he would return to the picture book form with a new hand paint classic. I for one hope that wait isn't a long one. A true storyteller with a visual style that has one foot solidly in the old, with a hopeful look at the new, filtered through Mr Joyce's talented brain.
- Unusual story about an old woman who falls ill and her garden does too. An old lost toy tells the bugs that they must climb the tallest tree and call to the Leaf Men for help. The good, brave doodle bugs accept the challenge. Beautiful artwork, sort of a strange story but good - my son (first grade) likes it.
- This is a slim book, and doesn't take very long to read, but it stands nearly alone in the world of children's books for the relative complexity of the story given the very few pages and words (of course I am still talking about a small book for young children -- perhaps 2-1/2 to 5 or 6 years old -- don't look for character development!). It is a real story, unlike so many of the Seuss books, and it develops quickly. It has both sentiment and action, and even toddlers can more-or-less understand it. Also, the illustrations are excellent, with little details that only adults might pick up on. Highly recommended!
- my two girls (4 & 5) love reading this book. i bought it for Christmas and we've read and re-read it several times since. we'll be keeping this one in our collection and put it away when they outgrow it.

5 comments about More French-Beaded Flowers: 38 Patterns for Making Blossoms, Leaves, Insects, and More.
- I've been working with beads for many years, and creating french beaded flowers for at least 20 years, and I STILL was very impressed with this book (which isn't easy to do!) The instructions are clear and the designs are wonderful! It's hard to say if a beginner would view it the same since I have been working with this art form for so long, but I believe it would be an excellent instructional guide, and a fantastic addition to every beading artist & hobbyist's library.
- I've had Kelly's first book (as a section of a larger beading book) for a while and have had great fun with it. The flowers in this second book are just as beautiful. The instructions are clear and relatively easy to follow. I've already done a couple of the projects and they've turned out well.
Now for the caution flag. Kelly's first book is titled 'French-Beaded Flowers: New Millennium Collection'. This second book is titled 'More French Beaded Flowers: 38 Patterns for Blossoms, Leaves, Bugs & More'.
However, there is another Kelly book that you may see, titled 'French Beaded Flowers'. Be aware that this seemingly THIRD Kelly book is the UK's version of the second book. The only differences between the two books are the cover, the longer title and the publisher. The project content is exactly the same. Judging from the dates of the reviews written for the UK version, it seems to have been published first. Maybe the publishers of the U.S. version decided to add the word 'MORE' to the title just to be different. Or maybe it was some type of legal thing. The one thing it IS, is confusing to the consumer.
So, please don't be fooled by the cover, like I was and buy both of them. As far as I know, there are only two books by Dalene Kelly on French Beaded Flowers, not three.
- The book is beautifully presented with exceptional diagrams and step by step instructions. There are many different varieties of flowers not found in other books, exotic orchics and beautiful butterflies. I love it.
I received my book very quickly, Amazon kept me informed via email that the order was received and when the book was sent. Great service.
- This is an excellent book with large bold pictures. It gives a good variety of the different methods of constructing flowers. I found it a wonderful addition to my library.
- Being new to this hobby, this book has better written instructions and better pictures that the author's prior book, New Millenium Collection. However, it appears that it was still written for people with experience at french beading as there are still a lot of steps and information omitted from the instructions in this book as well. There are a good variety of flowers shown in this book, so it is a worthwhile purchase.

- I was delighted and amazed with this charming book on insects. I picked it up as a coffee table book, but it soon became one of my favorites. Koch's illustrations are unique and eye catching, and her text is informative and fun. This book is a well loved member of my library, not to mention my coffee table...
- This book is one of the best recent examples of naturalistic painting that I have seen in a while. Her use of texture and keen eye for detail make this book a beautiful work. It is absolutely fabulous.
- This is a great book. This series of 4 books is out of print. Dragonfly Beetle Butterfly Bee is the most rare and hardest to find. It took me 2 years to find it at a price I could pay. It was worth the wait.
- The beautiful artwork of Maryjo Koch and the interesting text are a great combination with appeal to older children and adults. One is never overwhelmed with information but invited into the text through the carefully researched and executed paintings. There is just enough of both to make a visual impact and retain the facts about each subject. There is also a subtle sense of humor throughout as well. I enjoy it a few pages at a time to savor the sights and indulge in an entertaining education.

4 comments about Jeweled Bugs and Butterflies.
- This is a beautiful little book which features photographs of precious jewels fashioned by some of the great jeweler/artists of the past three centuries. The Lalique and Cartier pieces shown here are not the same ones you'll find in every other jewelry book. The quality of the photography and printing is first class. If you love fine art jewelry, or insects, or both, you'll enjoy this book.
- If you collect insect jewelry, or if you just love to look at jewelry as an art form, you are going to love this book. The author takes a topic rarely covered, and creates a photo essay that is beautiful from start to finish. The only problem I had with this book is that it made me want to hit the antique shops (...)to find some of the rare and lusterous beauties shown in the beautiful color pictures. I hope we will see more on this fascinating subject in the future. This book has made me hungry for more, and I guarantee if you have a "bug pin" collector on your gift list, you simply won't find a better book to surprise them with. It definately will not disappoint!
- Beautiful pictures of rare and unusual pieces. I bought this for my sister and almost kept it for myself.
- It's a beautiful book in its content and pictures - Very enlightening about the art jewelry.
