5 comments about Hot Wheels Spectraflame: The Essential Guide (Hot Wheels (Krause Publications)).
- I have grown tired of the hotwheel books that focus on the entire product offering through the years. The Tomarts guides did a good job of covering early redlines, but it's job was, once again, to cover all hotwheels. The Spectraflame book takes it back to the start, covers the beginning and ends it right there (~'72).
For the redline enthusiasts, this book will be a welcomed addition; good photos, notes, and definite focus. Is it 100% authoritative as a source? Others may be more qualified than me to scrutinize; all I know is my first car was the custom camaro along with a barebones strip track, I remember when the superchargers came out, adding a whole diminsion to track layout. I remember stalking the local stores when the spoilers came out(especially the nitty gritty kitty) I was in the Hotwheel club and received my chrome heavy chevy, while my friend got the boss hoss that I had hoped would come in my box. I had the tune-up tower, the sky show, and a few of the heavyweights, etc etc.
So, I may not be an expert, but I was there and have been collecting off and on through the years. I enjoyed the book.
What it lacks is more information of the track design and concepts. But, by its title "spectraflame", it owes none of that info to the reader.
- The book had very high quality photographs and overall it appears to be a worthwhile reference book for HOT WHEELS collectors.
So far, I have found no fault in it.
- I purchased this for my brother for Christmas, and he was really pleased. He is a Hot Wheel collector, and has a massive collection. He says that he pulls it out every few days to go through it again. Going strictly by his reaction to it, I would recommend it to anyone who has a strong interest in Hot Wheels.
- Although the price from Amazon is very fair; save your money. This book isn't as good as you might be led to believe. For the very best and most definative information regarding Hot Wheels of the Redline era, you should look for The Ultimate Redline Guide by Clark and Wicker, 2nd edition. Although printed 4 years ago it is still the best.
- As a collector, I found this book while out of state on business at a local bookstore in Little Rock, AR for $25.00.
I was very excited to receive this same book, as new, from a vendor with Amazon for less than 1/3 of the "new" price including shipping!! What's not to love??

5 comments about Warman's Hot Wheels Field Guide: Values and Identification.
- It is not clear in the description of this book that only a relatively small sample of Hot Wheels are featured and the only values listed are for "mint packaged vehicles". Because of these limitations, this book was of little value to me.
- This book has some good information, but is very incomplete. It does not even contain the deora car that is on the front cover and title page of the book!!! This book only lists mint in package prices and many cars have been left out. It also contains very little variations. If you are looking for a complete price guide, look somewhere else.
- This little book fits right into your pocket. You can take it with you when you go on your "treasure hunts"
- When I bought this book I was IN heaven It had all of the pictures I wanted to see except for the cover car.It hardly had any of my cars but Im okay with IT.
- I'm sure this would be a GREAT book if the seller had not SCREWED me out of my money and never shipped the book !

1 comments about Hot Wheels Classics: The Redline Era.
- There are plenty of Hot Wheels books on the market, but there is not a hardcover book that features many of the finest Redline cars known to exist all captured and presented in fabulous and vibrant color photographs. You'll enjoy page after page of great Redline cars. There are photo spreads that are so alive and dazzling you'll swear you could lift the cars off the pages. Some of my favorites include a rainbow of Classic '36 Ford Coupes; an amazing collection of 47 mint Custom Camaros; and an array of Custom Cougars in every color released, including a rare brown example (less than 10 are known to exist). In addition to the more than 500 spectacular photographs, you'll find commentary from design greats Larry Wood, Howard Rees and others. Great cars. Great design. Great book. Any Hot Wheels fan will love this book.

5 comments about How to Draw Cars the Hot Wheels Way.
- The minute this book arrived and I saw how great it was I realized that I would need to give it as a gift to a designer friend. Then I needed to order another copy to keep for myself. If you are a designer, want to draw cars, or are just a fan of Hot Wheels cars, Scott Robertson's book is a wonderful insight into the world of unlimited transportation imagination. Kids of ALL AGES would love this book!
- this book is probably one of the best books on drawing cars. lots of great pictures. and really great art of street rod cars. much better than How to Draw Cars like a Pro. everything you'll need on drawing cars is in here!
- Great Value - My son just keeps using this. For the enjoyment he receives from this guide, it is worth twice as much to me.
- Purchased for a 7.75 year old boy who loves to draw. He likes it but not as well as the drawing book by Hart.
- I bought this book solely because Scott Robertson wrote it. Normally I would have passed this book by thinking it was a children's book on drawing hotwheels. Boy was I surprised when I received it.
This is not as much a book on drawing cars but a book explaining how to use perspective when drawing vehicles which could be used for all types of vehicles. I've read many books on perspective and this one has been the most well developed instruction on vehicle perspective. His instructions are very detailed with great illustrations for each step. And we're not talking about glossed over quick 3 step instructions, most instructions are over 10 steps. So he goes slow with enough detail to not miss anything necessary to truly understand this topic.
Another bonus, is that he explains in detail how to render with various art media and also step by step how to render in Photoshop. These instructions are as detailed as that for drawing in perspective.
This book was a Great Surprise! I wish I had found it earlier. I probably could have forgone many books for what I've found in this one. Don't let the name fool you, pick this book up no matter what level of artist, illustrator, cartoonist or designer you are. Great book!!! 5 Stars.

4 comments about Warman's Hot Wheels Field Guide: Values and Identification (Warman's Field Guide).
- This small but concise volume is Warman's Hot Wheels Field Guide: Values and Identification (2nd edition), which was released on October 30, 2007. It was purchased as a gift for an avid Hot Wheels collector, shortly after he had noted that it would be good to have a small and simple book to keep in the car as a quick reference book when casually shopping for cars for his collection.
This new edition should not be confused with Warman's Hot Wheels Field Guide, which was published in May 2003. That older version features a Deora on the front cover.
After a couple of weeks worth of use, he commented that its 500+ pages are chock full of good information. Though it's not the ultimate resource on HotWheels cars, it's perfect as a handy quick reference when shopping at the local chain and toy stores for that occasional rare car that does slip through. There's good info on Blackwalls, Redlines and the Number Pack details, and has over 500 color photos of some of the highly prized Hot Wheels cars, along with a decent "Wheel Guide" for easy identification of some of the rarities that pop up on the racks.
If you're looking for something larger and more detailed, you might wish to look into Hot Wheels Variations: The Ultimate Guide (3rd edition), also by Michael Zarnock, and published July 6, 2007.
All in all, this compact volume is perfect for what has been described by the publisher, and a good handy reference for the hobbyist, casual collector or avid Hot Wheels fan. Add to that, it's a great gift.
- This is a usefull guide for older Hot Wheels cars, but not so much for newer ones
- I'm buying this book for my 2 year old son. It is the perfect size and is full of pictures of "goes". We saw one in the bookstore and it was quite a trick to leave the store without it. I'm hoping this will keep him occupied when he can't actually have a car to drive around.
- I was happy to get this field guide. Even though my collection is 2001 and newer, with this guide I will know what I am looking at no matter what I am shopping for.

5 comments about Hot Wheels Forty Years (Hot Wheels (Krause Publications)).
- I purchased this book for my 6 1/2 year old son who is Hot Wheels crazy. He looked at all of the pictures and then put it away. It's really for the collector and Dad who played with the cars in the 70's. For them, it's a great book to have around.
- Hot Wheels 40 Years is a very nicely put together book. It is a vast improvement in design, paper quality and everything thing else the its five years before predecessor Hot Wheels: 35 Years of Speed, Power Performance and Attitude. It is important to point out that although 40 years are covered, this is no field or price guide and only has a very small number of Hot Wheels vehicle photographs inside. Collectors or would be collectors would need to grab a Warman's Hot Wheels Field Guide: Values and Identification or something like this to get prices of and pictures of all the vehicles out there.
What this book is, is a look at the Hot Wheels brand and its history through the eyes of an avid fan and collector. There are many interviews with designers and others associated with Hot Wheels along with many photos, sketches, castings, prototypes and the like. A lot of photos and information are about holiday cars, given as staff bonuses to Mattel employees, which are quite interesting and show the company is or at one time was a fun place to work.
The reader is taken step by step through the design stage of some vehicles. Commentary is also given on the finished product of cars throughout the decades as well as production errors such as VW beetles having the engine up front.
There are places where maybe the authors love for the product stopped him from asking the hard questions. Such as what was the public reaction to the Mystery car packaging (black bubble instead of clear so buyer had a lucky dip type experience, I mean it obviously isn't around anymore, did it just get cancelled due to lack of sales or were customers annoyed with what they got? Also no commentary on the general public's perception, of Hot Wheels being an inferior product to brands such as Matchbox (who are now owned also by Mattel), Corgi or Johnny Lightning and if Mattel plans on trying to lift the Hot Wheels brand image and quality of the vehicles or is content to just compete on a lower price alone?
Hot Wheels being pretty much the cheapest option for die cast car toys meant pretty much everyone had some of these things when they were kids. They are still priced well below Johnny Lightning (although granted their vehicles are more for adult collectors) and Matchbox today so no doubt if you've got kids today they've got some too. This book would make an excellent showing your kids the difference between your childhood and theres book.
The author is really into his combi vans and a lot of the pages are devoted to those Volkswagen vehicles. The back pages of the book have Hot Wheels' top 40 castings, which is basically the author's opinion on the best car brought out by Hot Wheels each year of the company's existence.
It's not a bad read and an enjoyable way to relive the past. Unfortunately a fair few photos make multiple appearances in here though, surely the editors could have stepped in and said hey, how about covering a bit more of the range.
- Hot Wheels 40 Years is a spectacular gift book that celebrates four decades of the great Mattel-produced icon. Beautiful crisp images complement this nostalgic tour of Hot Wheels, from the early Redline years to the present. You'll get fantastic stories from the designers (like Larry Wood) who have helped shape the finest little cars in the world. No other book out there captures the history, imagery, and nostalgia of Hot Wheels like this book.
- This book is a must-have for the hot wheels enthusiast I can remember the early models I had when I was a child. If only I had them now.
- This ia a FANTASTIC book full of GREAT color pictures of Hot Wheels from the past 40 years. I highly recommend this book to all Hot Wheels collectors.

Tomart's Price Guide to Hot Wheels: Volume 1: 1968 - 1996
- Excellent book well laid out. Tons of pix and prices!
Great for the collector.
- Excellent update to the earlier editions. Only complaint is why the numbering format was dropped for the models, as used in the previous layouts. The color photo of each model is a big plus. A great guide.
