  1. This book is very well done. It is extreamly accurate and has helped me through some hard times selecting how much to pay for a bear. It's a great book for Care Bear Collecters both Young and Old.

  2. This book is the best ever! Don't listen to "rainbowdragon" about not containing the right price! The author said "Prices may vary".This book contains over 500 color photos about Care Bears.Hurry! Get a copy while supplies last!!! I really enjoyed reading this book because I have always loved Care Bears and I love to learn about them!

  3. I just want to say that I think it's about time someone made a book about Care Bear collectibles. I have been a huge fan of the Care Bears and the Care Bear Cousins for a long time, and I'm glad someone finally made a book with buying info about the Care Bear collectibles. I've been wanting to buy Care Bear collectibles for a long time, so I'm really glad I can finally find out how to buy them.

  4. I bought the Care Bear book mainly to see what else was available besides just the plushes and posables, however, when I went to look at the minis---there are none of the Care Bear Cousin minis pictured or even mentioned! I know the pics come out of a private collection but a mention of these would be helpful. Also, there was not info on all the posables' accessories! There was no mention of the British Bears or the ultra rare Care Bear Cousins. Prices were not too terribly out of line in comparison to what I have sold items for in the past. On a positive note, pics were nice and the author showed lots of neat Care Bear items.

  5. Firstly, this is not a book done by an expert or advanced collector (for proof, type in the authour's name, and you will see she has penned more than 50 books on collectibles.) In fact, there are several items in this book -including a My Little Pony play set!- that have been mislabeled as Care Bear items, as well as various home-made items being considered on par with factory made items.
There are many photos of items in less-than-pristine shape, not to mention the photos aren't very professionally done, leading me to conclude this book exists merely because it's filling a niche that should have been filled by a proper Care Bear collector and expert. Lastly, don't even expect this to give you accurate lists of what is out there - it's essentially just a hodge podge of photos of a Care Bear collection, and I may add, of nothing terribly rare or unusual. A cursory glance at eBay will yield better photos and rarer items than this book will. But, there's nothing else that I know of out there, so if you want a Care Bear collectibles book, you are basically stuck with this one until something better comes along.

  1. This book has been long awaited by the veteran and the novice Hot Wheel collector. Mike Strauss is assumed the "all knowing" Mr. Hot Wheel. This book with the previous, is the most comprehensive and detailed book on the collection since its conception. It would be impossible to conceive the cost to photograph each vehicle and give detailed definition should the collector assume such an endeavor. This book will be an added collector piece to the actual Hot Wheel vehicles. Thanks, Mike

  2. If you ever had any Hotwheels as a kid and have have wondered what they would be worth now, or how many colors and versions there were this is the book. Hundreds of color photographs and wheel variations through the years along with current values. Quite a bargain, excellent investment.

  3. Lots of great pictures, but the pricing levels are very arbitrary. Also, there are a few errors in the guide as to the existance and availability of some cars.

  4. This book gives you a great history lesson on Hot Wheels. The photos are great too! Good for the new comer.

1 comments about The Half-Doll With Related Items, Makers & Values VOLUME 1.
  1. Marc and Shona have picked up where earlier books of the 1970's left off.
The half dolls showcased in their book are identified, some history is given along with maker's marks, and the whole thing is well thought out.
Given the recurring popularity of half dolls (they've never really disappeared) the creativity that was expressed in their design by German and French firms of the late 1800's-1930's is tremendous. The factories put emphasis on the finely detailed crafting of these porcelain pieces. Coincidentally, the timing and high point of half doll sculpting is around the time the Bauhaus art movement was in full flower.
Soon thereafter the German factories were nationalized for war efforts.
These wonderful little ladies and gents were all but forgotten until the early books by Marion & Werner were written.
Marc & Shona know their half dolls! The book is well-written, thoughtfully organized and keeps the fun in it's presentation. They've covered a wide variety of half dolls from around the world. Their second volume continues the thread through some lesser known firms.
Good job! Enjoyable read for the serious (and not-so-serious) doll collector.

  1. The only book I have ever found about folk dolls only. The pictures are great, the information about dresses is complete. My only wish is to find the same kind of book about more "modern" dolls. This book mostly deals with dolls from museums and does not give many tips about where to find good folk dolls today. Looking forward to reading Volume2!

  2. Being in the doll business ourselves, and specializing in ethnic dolls, (PattycakeDoll.com) we are always looking to find books with information in this category. This book fits the bill perfectly. Great pictures, large format, lots of countries. Nice feature is they often have photographs of people in their native costumes to compare to the doll's dress.

  3. I found this while browsing for some world costume books. I make cloth art dolls so was amazed this book got past me - I hadn't heard of it before. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and have passed it around to friends. It's simply stunningly beautiful and has great information besides. I'm glad I got mine at such a great price, now that it's remaindered, but it's kind of too bad, as the authors and publisher did such a great job on it. I like to see good books rewarded - and this is a genuinely good book.

  1. This book is good but VERY lacking in pictures of some of the more desirable dolls like Tiny Betsy McCall - not one picture!
Ditto with many other dolls. Teri Lee gets about 6 pages, most other dolls and manufacturers get 2 pages and sometimes NO pictures. Way out of proportion! I was disappointed at the unbalanced coverage, even though the book was very nice.

  2. I found a wealth of information in this book about dolls from the smaller companies and on Mattel's budding doll line. I even found a few I had as a child but have not seen in other books and had not been able to ID until now. A lot of doll accessories are included for specific dolls that are not usually seen unless you have an old ad or catalog /booklet for that doll. This is a good addition to any collector's library and nicely showcases the dolls and girl toys of the era many of us think was the best of American dolls .

  3. a great book for those researching dolls of the fifties and early sixties. i could almost smell the new doll scent as i was carried back to those christmases many years ago. quite a little trip for so little money!

  4. Great book filled with products and information that is helpful in identifying "old" items. fun to look at and has beautiful pictures.
