- Most books like this only show pictures with prices. Michele's book gives me more information, background and a true understanding about the dolls, there origins, and the true history. Besides, it's a fun book to read with great photos. I'm glad I found it.
- An extremely resourceful book. Deep histories and information on composition & wood dolls, plus an extensive photo gallery of many rare dolls. A must have for any collector in their right mind!
- Of all my years of collecting dolls, I've never seen such a complete and informative book. Most impressive are the clear color pictures and the interesting discussion of the Cameo doll company. I.m very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to novice as well as experienced doll collectors.
-
I own both volumes of this book and both are great! You cannot go wrong with buying both volumes ,or just one. Together though, both volumes are so valuable!
But if you must own just one of the volumes (in this series) then buy this volume first, & then see if you need the next volume. It could be that this volume fills your need, since this volume is packed with soooo much information! Also, the color photos are just great!

5 comments about Within the Fairy Castle: Colleen Moore's Doll House at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago.
- THE COLOR PHOTOS ARE FABULOUS! I ENVY THE FAIRY PRINCE AND PRINCESS THAT LIVE IN THIS FABULOUS CREATION. THE WORK OF PROFESSIONALS IS EVIDENT--I JUST WISH I COULD HAVE HAD MORE VIEWS OF THE TREASURES INSIDE! BUY IT! IF YOU LOVE DOLLHOUSES AND FANTASY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS TOUR OF COLLEEN MOORE'S DOLL CASTLE!
- I was browsing in Amazon.com when I discovered this book. I was so excited that I couldn't wait to order it. Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry is one of my all-time favorite places on earth. I still go there whenever I go back for a visit. As a little girl, growing up in Chicago in the 60's, one of my favorite things was going to see Colleen Moore's Doll House every year. I'm sure you can probably imagine how magical this huge, intricately planned, priceless, bejeweled dollhouse seemed in a darkened room by itself, lit with soft lights, telephones all around it so you could listen to discriptions of each room as you peered through the glass barrier surrounding it. This book captures much of the beauty of the amazing miniature treasures and the magic of the house itself-and definitely puts a smile on my face.
- I recently had the pleasure of visiting the castle in Chicago, and can hardly find the words to say how magnificent it was! Still, in the time I had to view it, so many details were missed. That is why this book is so great. It not only displays the castle with better lighting, it gives you a chance to savor all the tiny details you might never have seen. There is also some wonderful biographical information on Colleen Moore herself. A must for miniature lovers, little girls, and dreamers everywhere!
- When I was 7 years old, my mother, grandmother and a cousin of mine went to Chicago, and one of the places we went was the Museum of Science and Industry. Before we went, my mother told me that as a young girl, she had seen the fairy castle when it toured the country before becoming a permanent exhibit at the museum. She told me how much she loved it, and I couldn't wait to see it. I was not disappointed. This IS the ultimate dollhouse. Every time I go to the museum, you can't get me to leave without seeing the fairy castle.I took my own daughter to see it, and now she loves it, too. The last time we went, I found this wonderful book at the gift shop, and was thrilled that now I could look at my beloved fairy castle whenever I wished. This book is a real treasure, with beautiful pictures of the castle. Anyone who loves dollhouses, and the fairy castle in particular, will love this book. It never fails to provoke happy memories for me.
- I live in the Chicagoland area and was just at the museum today. As expected, the dollhouse is as amazing as it was when I was a little girl. I saw this book in the gift stop. IT ONLY COSTS $24.95!!! Please, please don't pay these people double what the book actually costs! Go to the Museum of Science and Industry's website at http://site.msishops.com/books.html and look for the book at the bottom of the page. I'm sure there's shipping that's not included. There might even be tax, but it'll no doubt still be cheaper than paying these people $50-$60 for the book. What a rip-off!!!

1 comments about Doll Kitchens, 1800-1980.
- I bought this book to help me choose furniture for my own doll's kitchen. I am very pleased! The large, detailed pictures tell you more about doll kitchens and full sized kitchens than books about historical interiors. If you are planning a victorian dollhouse, skip the history books and get this one instead! My only disappointment is with the title. It really should be "Doll Kitchens, 1860-1980" because the information pre-1860 was scanty. The author covers those sixty years too quickly, then goes into great detail about the 1860's onward.

4 comments about Dawn Dolls: Official Encyclopedia & Price Guide.
- This new Dawn book is a must have for the Dawn collector! Even if you are just starting out, you should see this book. You will find this book to have large and clear photos. Very helpful to see details! The author shares her amazing collection and has some unique hard to find and variations. Other books did not do justice to Dawn dolls. I find myself scanning this book over and over. The price guide is pretty accurate in helping you seek out these lovely ladies. Thank you for sharing your collection with us Benita Schwartz!
- A wonderful book with so many incredible photos I could not set it down until I looked at absolutely everything! Beautifully done with great photos of one of my favorite childhood "friends," Dawn. Brought back special memories for me, and also reminded me of Dawn clothes and accessories I had forgotten over the years. I loved seeing each outfit modeled by a doll too. One of the best parts for me was the chapter on knockoff and copycat dolls and toys. I was able to identify a Dawn knockoff doll that I had been previously unable to! Thanks! A great book for the new collector (like me!) or the veteran collector.
- Lots of great pictures.
Did not like the value format
- This was the first book that I purchased before starting my Dawn doll collection. I played with Dawn and her friends as a child but didn't have any of my dolls. All the pictures in the book are wonderful and help you identify the 'authentic' Dawn doll stuff from the imitations. I didn't even realize that there was so much stuff about Dawn. A very fascinating stroll down memory lane. I refer to this book before purchasing ANY Dawn dolls or accessories. A MUST for any Dawn doll collector!!!

- This book has a lot of different categories and therefore none are complete. You will get a sampling of items across different areas and times, but this will not help you identify the vast majority of what you own or are looking to buy. Price guide in the back only covers those items pictured in the book. Is a good starter book, probably not for the serious collector.

- A clever visual slight of hand makes this a fun book for children and adults. I couldn't get it away from my six year old long enough to really explore all the contents.

3 comments about Famous Bears and Friends: One Hundred Years of Teddy Bear Stories, Poems.
- This is a beautifully written and illustated book. Wonderful to read to toddlers and younger children and a treat for older children (of all ages). The Teddy Roosevelt story is worth the whole book.
- This book is a great read-aloud. My son was drawn to his "favorite" bears like Pooh and Paddington, then was happy to stick around and learn about actual, unusual teddy bears. We loved the story about the one on the Titanic.
- This was a great book. It tells you everything from the history of teddy bears to little bear legends. I love teddy bears and found this book very interesting. My only complaint was that it was a tad short. If you love teddy bears then you'll love this book. It's great for any age to enjoy!
