  1. The author gets right to the point here, and offers good advice for folks who buy and sell antiques on the Internet. Her business savvy permeates every page. This is definitely one of several handbooks Internet antique buyers, sellers, and dealers will want close by. Very well written, smooth style.

  1. This book is a very colorful and well written book. However, I expected to see many more pictures of candlesticks than are offered in this book. There is 165 pages of candlesticks with 2 - 3 examples per page, which is probably around the amount made during the Depression Era. Florence gives the company name, the pattern, color, size and mint value. The photos are great and I believe this book is valuable to those just getting into collecting candlesticks from this era.

  2. Very beautiful pictures, but limited. Wish Florence has used a different format instead of listing by color. It would have been helpful if he had stated the colors and etchings available for each candlestick.

  3. Gene & Cathy Florence's Glass Candlesticks Of The Depression Era, Volume 2: Identification And Value provides a secondary volume of addition candles collected since the author's first volume, presenting the same easy organization by maker and the fine color photos which lend to quick identification. From patterns and color notes to sizes and valuation, Glass Candlesticks, Volume 2 is a pick any owner of Volume 1 needs.

  1. Great new 224 page book featuring nearly 700 full color, sharp, photos of every type of racing collectible. Enthusiasts will really appreciate the great variety of items covered, ranging from autographs, bean bag racers, cards and cereal boxes to magazines, medallions, model kits, and statues, steins, tickets and uniforms. There's plenty of text provided and thousands of item listings. If you collect car racing items, this is a must for your library.

  2. First of all, I HATE the BIG UGLY picture of American Car Racer...do not know his name, on the cover of the book. Second, I hate NASCAR and Cheap political HOT WHEEL junk I do not even care for looking at. The book should focus on HIGH QUALITY COLLECTIBLE BRANDS ONLY. What a waste of paper~!!!

  1. this is an ok read but I am unaware as to when this takes place. the last TPB I read nightwing was in bludhaven PD tring to make a diference, then he became mobbed up and then he was a renegade. this story puts him in new york just hanging out looking for a job. when did this take place? wasen't he going to marry barbra gorden(oricle). I just can't fit this in the timeline. was this supposed to be a TPB before all the other stuff? for this I only give it 3 stars. the story is good even though it doesn't fit the nightwing story line. and the ending didn't solve who the hitman was hired by luthor's people. also i've never seen batman act the way he did in this book. with such emotion toward dick. all in all, OK READ, NO TIE IN WITH THE OTHER TPB'S WHATSOEVER. IT'S NIGHTWING SO IT'S GOOD, BUT THE WRITER SHOULD HAVE READ THE LATEST BOOKS TO CATCH HIMSELF UP.

  2. Okay, the first reviewer says it doesn't fit into the story. This is almost true. DC decided that after the Crisis storyline all their heroes would have a timeskip one year into the future. So this story takes place one year after he proposed to Barbara Gordon. Some of the catch-up is given in the countdown 52 storyline or in the actual nightwing storyline. so if it seems out-of-place that's just a marketing gimmick cooked up by DC. (hey it worked, obviously!!) But getting on to the actual story ... NIGHTWING sucks, big time!!!! If you want my opinion pick up Batman, Robin, or Outsiders. Trust me, Robin you're thinking just a sidekick, right! Pick up the graphic novel 'teen titans: around the world' then tell me he's just a sidekick.

  3. There is a lot wrong with this one. It amazes me how "modern" superheroes are so self-involved that actually saving someone is an unexpected bonus. I don't think anyone gets saved in this one. The body count is appalling. In fact, it's counted several times just so you know bad people are killing innocents, in case you weren't sure.

Of course, in the DC realm, blood free flowing in the streets means that somebody is going to have to bring along a bigger set of hand-cuffs because the villain is a real meany. Sure, other Nightwing additions have the "I'm sorry the train wrecked but my love life is just a mess" fault, but try a Chuck Dixon story like "Year One" and " A Darker Shade of Justice". At least the character development and interaction is fun and mostly smart. They move the Nightwing story along. This one just pulls it over and gets ugly.

1 comments about Fabulous Fifties: Designs for Modern Living.
  1. First off, while this isn't a "bad" book, it is by no means worth the full price (...). I'm a 50s collector and have about all the 50s books out there, and this was somewhat disappointing (fortunately I bought a cheaper used version).

Here's what I don't like about this book: it's selfishly feminine. 2/3 of the book deals in textiles and women's clothing exclusively, with only a few token pages on men's gabardine jackets and shirts.

Only the first 1/3 of the book deals with collectible items from the 50s and they are put together haphazardly, as if the book was thrown together or not done in conjunction with a designer. Collage pages of living rooms come across as tacky.

The prices mentioned in this book are unrealestic. A quick look on Ebay will show nobody is paying $750.00 for gabardine jackets and nobody is paying $50 or more for an individual drinking glass with a cool design. They're so inflated that is just silly -- almost as if the author were trying to get people unrealistically excited about the value of the items.

If you're female and into textiles, clothing, and poodles you might love this book (nothing wrong with that!). But for males or other folks into more into collectible items, or people into the more stylistic side of mid-century design, you'll be somewhat disappointed.
