5 comments about For the Boys: The Racy Pin-Ups of World War II.
I have quite a few books on the subject matter and although I love the original artwork being presented next to the nose-art photos, I really felt that proper credit should've been given to the artists (both original and the Service Men). On some pieces you can see the signature but on a lot of them, you can't and the artists aren't cited. On the photos of the Bombers and Fighters, it would've been nice if the authors had done a little more research and included Bomb or Fighter Groups/Squadrons to give further credit to the Service men who so faithfully recreated their favorite pin-ups on their aircraft. The layouts are also sometimes too "BUSY" and give you a SCRAPBOOK FEELING, but again, THE ARTWORK AND PHOTOGRAPHS MAKE UP FOR THE OBVIOUS SHORTCOMINGS. I would recommend "VINTAGE AIRCRAFT NOSEART" for better pictures of the painted aircrafts, and the "GREAT AMERICAN PIN-UP" as a starting point if you're really interested in both art forms as those two books are jammed packed with both good photographs, and rich history. then perhaps getting books on your favorite individual artists. Mine are Vargas and Elvgren.
- For The Boys blends an art history book with a focus on film and military images, considering the story and influence of the pin-up girl during World War II. For The Boys profiles calendars, postcards, mathbooks and other memorabilia featuring the girls and uses many original source images by Vargas, Elvgren and others to accompany photo-packed pages and information. A colorful, revealing collection.
- The introduction to this book is an informative piece about various pin-up artists of the WWII era; however, most of the book was a scrapbook style work that left much to be desired. The main fault with the display of images was that there was no way to tell which artists created which images. Another drawback was how "racy" some of the images were. This significantly limits the appropraite audience for this book.
- I decided to add this to my "Pin- Up Book" collection when the price fell below $$$!
Although I really had no idea what to expect, imagine my surprise (and astonishment!), when I discovered that this book is not only a great "Pin-Up" resource, but also a fantastic "Nose Art" book (in it's own right!). Not only does it cover the B-24 Liberator (in abundance), but also includes the B-17, B-25, B-26 and B-29 (bombers), and features fighter aircraft as well! Tons of color photos, never before published. As an added bonus, I didn't realize this was a huge "Coffee Table" book! (13.35 x 10.32 in.) with 144 pages of visual delight!
- Set in a scrapbook-type format, this book showcases pin-up art used to help G.I.'s show exactly what they were fighting for back during the World Wars.
Plane Nose Art, Calenders and matchbook covers are some of the pieces showcased in this book. Everyone from Vargas to Elvgren's artworks are shown in a small sampling, that'll help entice you to look them up further.
Great racy art (considering it's been decades since they were made) of an era long gone. These pieces are definitely a 'less-is-more' situation where what you don't see is sexier than what you do.

3 comments about Tiffany Favrile Art Glass.
- I find this book visually exciting, and definately an addition to the collectible word in matters pertaining to the "Mystic" and "Magic" of the maveric artist "Louis Comfort Tiffany". If you own any Tiffany Favrile Glass this is one of the must have books.
- The beautiful photos and well written commentary make this book the finest on the subject available. Detailed descriptions along with superior photo quality make this a must for new collectors and experts alike.
- This is both a book for collectors , and a "coffee table" beauty. The photos are superb, the items selected are the "best of the best", and the narrative is well-written. Unfortunately, those items missing from the book are the Favrile tiles and small pieces--jewelry, scarabs; these are pieces that many collectors can afford and are still available.

5 comments about Love Smart: Find the One You Want--Fix the One You Got.
- I purchased this book in a mall bookstore. I have the hardcover version. I was glad that he offered some much needed warnings about meeting people through personal ads, and the internet. Some people need that, and from the thousands of ads I've read over the years, a whole lot of people are using this methold, without thinking through what they are really looking for. But I feel that the core of phil's system is not new. He does exhort people-and I feel that this applies to either gender, to not try and mold onesself to mr anybody. Good for you, phil! THAT has needed to be said for a very very long time. Other that that, he spends the remainder of the book, telling seekers that what ever kind of person you are looking for, be where they are. Well, I'm a DIY wannabe, and I love bldg supply places and the like. But very honestly, I ain't got TIME to spend my few free saturdays, or what little free time I have, running from one bldg supply or electronic bric a brac store to another, or, for that matter, the engineering books at the public library, hoping MAYBE to meet the right person. the basis of any relationship I would want to have, would have to start with very similar spiritual beliefs, and the type of church I go to, very few decent single men come near, let alone stay there. I did "fall over' the right person, in a big library in california, as a young woman. I could tell the guy was very very interested, and when it happened to me, I was entirely stunned, having had an ugly duckling mentarlity all my life. Only prob was-he came along two weeks after I had gotten married, to somebody I wasn't in love with(sigh). Welcome to armerican life kids.
- Since I'm not interested in dating and my husband doesn't want to be fixed, I had to ask myself why I was reading a book about single women looking for Mr. Right. I guess I am curious and I wanted to know what Dr. Phil's "Fix the One You Got" entailed. To be frank, this is not a book for married couples who are seeking a more harmonious relationship. This is strictly a book for women who want to find Mr. Right.
Dr. Phil spends a great deal of time explaining why you are worthy and what you should do to capture a man's attention. What are men really thinking during the dating game and how can you become the woman they can't stop thinking about? This book begins with some pretty amusing letters about dating and then takes an especially honest look at self-esteem issues.
The chapters on how men think are very revealing. You can even amuse yourself by writing down all the qualities you'd like in a dream man. I was amazed at how many qualities my husband actually had once I wrote out my list.
Overall, Dr. Phil gives some sage advice to women who want to play the dating game with a sense of purpose. There are "icebreaker questions" to use in any situation and lots of hints and tips for being a winner in the game of love.
So despite the title of this book it is mostly for single women who are trying to understand male behavior. If you are already married then this may not be the book you are looking for and you may want to buy All You Need Is Love and Other Lies About Marriage: A Proven Strategy to Make Your Marriage Work, from a Leading Couples Therapist.
~The Rebecca Review
- Say what you will about Dr.Phil, but he does know his stuff. Also, he's got a great prespective on dating and in this book, it shows. I learned a lot and was happy to read this book, which has helped me in numerous ways. I also liked and would suggest another dating book which, along with "Love Smart" has also helped me: Dating Sense: The Practical Way to Meet, Date and Marry the Right Person .
- This is ludicrous. Dr. Phil was married before but they divorced - he didn't fix her. (as if there were such a thing)
His popularity has gone to his head. I still watch the show if the topic is interesting but WHY does he think we all love Robin? I avoid the shows with her completely. I was married to an Army Officer for over 30 years but it didn't make me qualified to lead troops into battle. He thinks we want her opinion on everything. I don't!
You cannot post any differing opinion on his website, that's too controlled!
- I love Dr. Phil, I've read most of his books, and this one is a real eye opener.

5 comments about Where the Wild Rose Blooms (Rocky Mountain Memories).
- This book is definitely one of my favorite Lori Wick books. It seems to be "deeper" than the rest. It is the story of the Fontaine family and Clayton Taggart, set in the 1870's in Colorado. "Where The Wild Rose Blooms" focuses on the romance between Clayton and Jackie, one of the Fontaine girls. I particularly liked the characters in this book. They were certainly not perfect (especially Jackie) and seemed much more believable in their flaws than some of Lori's other characters. Because of the "believability" and development of her characters, we really enjoyed the romance a lot more and felt very rewarded when it happened-even though we knew it was coming. This is a nice, fun, and sometimes thought-provoking read that you'll enjoy.
- This is my first book, but definitely not my last, of Lori Wick's that I have read. How adorable and beautiful this novel is. A valuable lesson in this is to be learned and that is that we can make it through any struggle we have with the Lord's help and ONLY with the Lord's help. How beautiful and marvelous this novel is. I gave it 4-stars because I had a difficult time staying awake at several points throughout the book. But, great read overall.
- One of the best books that I have ever read! A definite page turner. There was so much that happened and so many suprises. One of Lori Wick's best! I recommend this to anyone.
- this is one of the best books I've read. Clayton Taggart was such a romantic guy, never giving up on the one he loves. Jackie Fontaine was one tough girl. she alomost gave up but love kept her going. this is a really great book and really suggest it if you are into romance and the love of God.
- Lori Wick has done it again with her deep and romantic tale of Jackie Fontaine and Clay Taggart. Jackie took a little getting used to, but who couldn't but instantly fall in love with Clay? This book also helped me learn a great lesson: if you have faith, the Lord will provide for you. And if you have faith, you will find eternal happiness and love with someone wonderful. Huzzah for Lori Wick and her amazing characters!!!!!

5 comments about The Definitive Guide to Collecting Black Dolls.
- It is the answer to all Black doll collector's dreams! I have a number of "doll" books and magazines but none of them have ALL color Black doll photos in additon to valuable collecting information such as that found in this book. I must confess that initially, I looked through it four times on the day it arrived. It's fun seeing how many of the pictured dolls I have in my own collection!
- Debbie Garrett's "The Definitive Guide to Collecting Black Dolls" is a magnificent combination of beauty, knowledge, and cultural celebration! It was wonderful learning about the history of antique and vintage black dolls, as well as the current artists and their creations. This guide provides a fabulous array of delightful pictures denoting the significance of black doll collecting, that is both informative and inspiring!
- I enjoyed looking thru this book to get ideas of the different kinds of dolls to add to my collection. There were a lot of dolls that I didn't know existed untill I read this book.
- Loved this book. I am a collector of black dolls for many years. I saw several of my dolls in the book.
- The book is OK. Photos are not all that great (some blurry and out of focus, obviously amature). Most of the dolls are modern and mass produced. I was hoping that there would be more artist creations, one of a kinds, limited editions, and antiques. Instead there are a bunch of plastic/vinyl manufactured dolls with just a few quality pieces sprinkled in. I only recommend this if you collect that style of doll (manufactured/mass-produced).

4 comments about Warman's Red Wing Pottery: Identification and Price Guide.
- This guide has a little bit of information about all areas of Red Wing pottery. Unfortunately, it tries to do too much and in doing so doesn't do justice to any of the subjects. I believe new collectors will be confused by its organization. The good news is there are already lots of good books available on Red Wing pottery.
- Excellent examples of the difficult to find items. I thought the photography was excellent! Fair and not inflated prices....Thanks!
- This is a very comprehensive treatment of all categories of Red Wing production. Rare, seldom reviewed pieces are included. I appreciated not having to refer to an index for prices (they are provided with each listing). Nice photos. Excellent general reference for Red Wing collectors.
- This book has helped identify Red Wing pottery, each type is in a separate area and the back includes a 'find by number' list.
There are some items that aren't in this book, but it would help a person get a general idea of what items are worth.
