2 comments about Clock Repairing as a Hobby: An Illustrated How-To Guide for the Beginner.
  1. Clock Repairing is a fun, delightful, relaxing hobby that more people should take part in, and this book is a great introduction into the world of clock repair. It helps you get passed all the elaborate gears and levers, and into the fun of it. The diagrams in here are great and really helpful. Pick this up if you are new to the clock world.

  2. This was a Christmas gift for my husband whom is interested in the repair of watches and clocks. He just needed additional information on repairing clocks, and he said this was the perfect book! He was very pleased.

  1. The Complete AR-15/M16 Sourcebook: What Every Shooter Needs to Know keeps with its title. Well, somewhat. The book is a very detailed SOURCEBOOK. Do not buy this book to find out what you can do to accessorize your rifle. This book goes into detail about the origins of the AR-15/M16 beginning with the early years and including some photos and text on early models and models that did not make it. The book talks about some of the larger companies that make the AR-15/M16, and has pictures of most of the variants by company. It is a worthwhile read if you desire to learn about the history of the rifle, but is by no means what every reader needs to know.

  2. I enjoyed and found the information useful. If your new to the AR15, this is
a great way to get up to speed on the subject. The author knows his subject
and communicates it well. There's a lot more that could have been covered
but for that, one is well advised to visit www.ar15.com
You'll find answers there to questions you probably haven't even thought of.

  3. I was new to the AR-15 pattern rifle. This book was informative and still a great read. Provides a full history of the design with info about competing rifles. It could use some updating to cover newer accessories.

  4. Nice history and overview of the rifles development, but weak on assembly instruction, maintenance, cleaning etc. A nice historical reference book really.

  5. This is a good book but a bad manual. It has a great history of M16s and a bit of bias about how great they are. I was disappointed at the lack of technical information in the book as I was looking for a bit more detail on the specifics of parts and internal upgrade options.

  1. I just wanted to mention that editors are not the designers. Yes, people make mistakes, including editors/publishers of designer's books, and this one is no exception. Easily solved in this case, just call the number on the book( back cover) and they will speedily( less than a fifteen minutes for me) e-mail you the errata page. They will also continue to be there for help if you find another problem that was not addressed yet. Perhaps they are in contact with the authors and can do that, better than we could.
I've done that with another book as well, "Little Badger Knits" and got an immediate reply and help from the publishers.
I would not write off a book because of mistakes that can easily be solved.
I am looking forward to knitting from this book and it certainly does have "adorable knits" in it!

  2. If there is a toddler in your life, you are going to love this book of knitting patterns. The sweaters are adorable! And the patterns are not terribly difficult. Have fun!

  3. I love the patterns, but the number of mistakes is frustrating. You should probably only buy this book if you are an experienced knitter and can pre-read patterns to figure out where errors might be. If you are planning to knit one of the cabled patterns, you should be prepared to waste a ball of yarn before you find out where all the errors are. I've knitted for ten years, and I've never encountered so many mistakes in a published pattern book before. Proceed with caution.

  4. ...Unless I'm convinced they've gotten their act together. I am currently about to begin the Lacy Sweater for the third time due to a giant errata. This was not a matter of a single missing stitch, but of a rep instruction that specified half as many as were actually needed (as in said 7, needed 14). This is just plain sloppy.

Because neither the author nor the publisher had an errata page, I assumed I was doing something weird. After the second start, I became suspicious enough to go digging, and found the errata posted by a knit blogger who'd pegged away at the publisher.

For what they charge for these books, I expect better QA. And ZM, would an errata page kill you?

  5. I thought the patterns in this book were beautiful and I've knitted the lacy sweater twice for my daughter and a friend's daughter. She loved it so much she wants an identical one for her other daughter. I knitted the heart jacket and the mary-janes (although I'm still to sew those together and I've nearly finished the pirate sweater for my son. They have all turned out adorable and although the patterns are challenging they have been really fun to knit. I love the styles that she's used and think that they are beautifully modern and very wearable. I've found a couple of errors but they haven't been a huge problem to me. I am an english woman knitting in America and wonder if the instructions may be a little different. I've had a lot of difficulty finding knitting projects in craft stores that aren't just blankets and throws.
In my opintion I think it's a stylish book with beautiful knits.

5 comments about Hallmarks of the Southwest (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
  1. This is the eagerly-awaited second edition of Hallmarks of the Southwest; as a longtime collector of Native American jewelry, I'm happy to finally have a copy of this book.

Naturally, not every craftsman can be represented in such a comprehensive work, and complicating this is that not every piece is stamped with identifying marks. (Some of my favorite jewelry isn't stamped at all, even with "Sterling.") Many of the references are a carry-over from the first edition; since silversmithing is often a family tradition, certian respected craftsmen working today may not be represented but their families are.

It's a valuable overview, and leaves the reader [me, at least] wanting more.

  2. Although the exchange process was easy, both copies of the book that Amazon sent had pages either missing or hugely out of order. I wished there was a way for Amazon to check the copies, under such circumstances, before sending them out.

  3. We have had previous editions of this book by Barton Wirght for years. This up-dated edition is just more current, but overall it is a very helpful bood to us.

  4. I've been able to find some of the marks in the book but so many times the marks I'm looking for are not listed. I was also surprised that some names, such as Harry Morgan, were not in the book.

  5. This book is a must have for the serious collector of Native American jewelry. This compilation is broad and attributes many makers to their nation of origin. There are names, initials, and pictographs, with an assortment of unknowns as well. This book is worth its weight in gold!

  1. If you're into jewelry with glass gems or the art deco look, this is an excellent resource. The text gives a good review of jewlery in the 1920s - 1940s, but on the level of an interested collector, not for a research paper. The photos are excellent and the pieces nicely categorized by type.

  2. I would not invest in this book. Perhaps I was looking for something more instructive and for comparison than what this book offers. Before you purchase you should review in a book store or library.

5 comments about 2007 Standard Catalog of Firearms: The Collector's Price & Reference Guide (Standard Catalog of Firearms).
  1. I have purchased this book since they started publishing it. I collect guns and this is a great pricing guide. This issue is a little below the standards of previous years. They seem to have changed some subtle things that won't affect the first time buyer but for the perpetual purchaser are disappointing.

  2. Very useful and full of information. We buy a new book every year to keep up with the pricing, but also to see how our investments have done!!

  3. While not the end all of reference guides, when used in combination with other reference guides the book is very useful. The pictures have proven to be invaluable for identifying a certain model or type of firearm.

  4. Not as updated as it would have you believe but still a good reference if you don't already own an earlier version and it does have a lot of photos.

  5. This 2007 edition has been updated very nicely. Lots more information than previously. A few illustrations could be updated to match current knowledge of the product. This shortcoming is unavoidable as the information might not have been known at time of publishing. We look forward to such updates being included in its next printing. Overall, the book has been greatly improved in appearance and "readability." It's a MUST HAVE for all who are interested in historical firearms.

  1. I WAS TO BE TOTALLY HONEST PLEASANTLY SURPRISED, I WASN'T EXPECTING THAT I WOULD LIKE THIS BOOK. I READ MOMMY'S ANGEL I WASN'T FEELING THAT BOOK AT ALL!!! THAT'S WHY I WAS SURPRISED THAT AS I BEGAN READING THIS BOOK I FOUND IT INTRIGUING, EROTIC,AND EXCITING I BARELY WANTED TO PUT IT DOWN UNTIL I WAS DONE!!! THE AUTHOR BLEW ME AWAY WITH THIS ONE,SO MUCH SO THAT I GOING TO CHECK OUT HER OTHER 2 BOOKS!!!! KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK, I'M PROUD THAT U ARE A NATIVE PHILADELPHIAN!!!U REP'D US WELL, GO A'HEAD AND POP YOUR COLLAR GIRL !!!!

  2. This definitely gives you a one clear view of the sex trade. It doesn't go into detail of the mechanics behind the actual "business" but it is written in a way to put you there visually. Just like "Diary of a Mistress" by Miasha, this book has its own twists to send you on a ride; you don't see the twists coming. Doesn't take long to read this one either. It is definitely a must-read and will make a good book for book clubs to discuss.

  3. Miasha has done it again. This book was hot!!! So many twists and turns throughout the whole book I never knew what to expect next. It's a book that I would definitely recommend to all those out there looking for a good read

  4. I thought this book would be real hot--don't get me wrong its a good read but I expected more.

  5. Book was a ok book. Sienna watched as her father was killed in front of her and her mother beated. She was then sold to a bad man which she finds out later was the one that order her dad to be killed. She was rised by the bad man that took her end tought her the ends and outs to his buissness that was mainly buying and selling girls. The more Sienna finds out the more she wants out. She finally able to get out and also get the bad man behind bars. Trying to keep her lover/husband/brother from sinking with the bad man. Overall book was good.

  1. There are so many quilt blocks to choose from. None of the block patterns are in color, but it will still be easy to choose appropriate fabrics to use. Each of the black and white block designs are illustrated very well in great detail utilizing various textures of shading to represent the types of fabrics used. The wide variety of dark and light contrasting designs in each block effectively indicate a vast assortment of fabrics such as prints, florals, checks, stripes, solids, dots, and so many more.In fact, these black and white illustrations might actually make it easier to choose fabrics to use, because they are so straight foward and distinct.

  2. This books has loads of information, but it is in black and white and the fonts make it difficult to hold one's attention. I would not purchase this again.

  3. I agree with those who have reviewed before me who believe that, as a reference, this book is ideal and a must-have for your collection. WARNING: I JUST got my hardcover volume and excitedly started thumbing through it - anxious to identify what the scores of quilt blocks I have purchased at farm and estate auctions were named - only to find that pages 241 through 256 were missing. To add insult to injury, I've also found that (presumably to make-up for the loss of the earlier 16 pages) there are two groups of pages 257 through 272, repeated one-after-the-other. So, I must go through the process of returning this copy, hoping that the NEXT one I receive will be correct. OVERALL - this reference is an amazing feat and kudos to Ms. Brackman and those who assisted her. This post is merely a long-winded warning to CHECK YOUR BOOK ONCE IT'S DELIVERED!

  4. I think those who gave this book a low rating were unclear on its intent and purpose. This book is NOT a how-to book, or a book of pretty pictures on how to use quilts in decorating. It is not a book on how to design a quilt, although it's very useful for designers with the savvy to imagine or play with colorway variations, and to figure out how to assemble blocks, how to calculate patch sizes, and how to figure yardage requirments.

This book is a reference primarily on how to identify quilt blocks. It is encyclopedic in its listing of just about every block pattern published in the US during the time period it covers. If you're trying to figure out the name of a block you've seen, or if you're trying to get your creative juices flowing, Brackman's book is just the ticket. I feel it's an essential part of the library of any designer or anyone with any interest at all in quilting history.

  5. I was thrilled to find this book, but extremely dissapointed to find that more than a half dozen pages were missing. Tried ordering another, but the same was true for the second purchase.
