3 comments about Toys A to Z : A Guide and Dictionary for Collectors, Antique Dealers and Enthusiasts.
- This is a brand new (2001) 480 page handy 6 x 9" book that toy collectors will want to keep with them when antiquing. It contains more than 350 black and white photos and covers the gamut of toys from A to Z. It's called a guide and dictionary for toy enthusiasts, and includes every type of toy imaginable. Items are listed by brand names, manufacturers and type of toys, cross-referenced for easy item location and identification. There's also much information regarding toy making companies. The book has a handy thumb-index like a dictionary for speed of use. It's a useful addition to your collectibles library.
- One quality shared by all really good reference books is that the reader who goes to look something up finds himself twenty minutes later unable to remember his original question.
TOYS A-Z is handy sized and beautifully designed, with a thumb index and hundreds of illustrations of toys, ads, logos. The author is a real presence. Mark Rich has clear interests and an individual point of view. He shows us the story of an industry devoted to providing playthings and is strongest on U.S. toys. The book, in fact is a study of Americana. And an original piece of Americana as well. If it was twice as long, it would be ten times as good. Ten times as long and nobody who dipped into it would ever be heard from again!
- Perfect for the novice to the collector. Alot of rich history and terminology of soft toys and collector toys.
But that is what this is a Pure Dictionary!

- small in size, but lots of pics, mostly from France, with the odd zippo. No prices, but gives a good overview of the Lighters available.

2 comments about Black Powder Hobby Gunsmithing.
- This book is a complete step by step reference for building, tuning, and repairing black powder rifles, pistols, and revolvers. The section on tuning cap and ball revolvers immediately paid for my book. It also has a great historical introduction on the frontier gunsmith, with sections on tools and safety.
- The author covers all the important steps and gives a few tips. The problem is the instructions that come with gun kits has better detail.

2 comments about Dinnerware of the 20th Century: The Top 500 Patterns (Official Price Guides to Dinnerware of the 20th Century).
- As a novice dealer of new and antique dinnerware, this book has been an invaluable resource for identification and valuation. You will not learn a lot about any one manufacturer in this book because it focuses on the most desirable PATTERNS, featuring clear photos and basic pricing information. I find myself leafing through it often, even when I'm not looking for a particular pattern. If you don't specialize in one manufacturer's wares, but buy and sell a lot of different patterns, you really shouldn't be without this handy reference book. I hope Mr. Rinker will team up with Replacements to produce Volume II - The Top 1000 Patterns, 501-1000.
- As a fan of mismatched china, whose collection has been profiled in the New York Times, I recommend DINNERWARE OF THE 20TH CENTURY to both expert dealers and novices who love to entertain in style.
Organized alphabetically first by manufacturer and then by pattern name, this guide is illustrated with hundreds of full-color photographs. And it contains all the the information you will need to buy, store, care for, display, replace and value every known piece of the 20th century's top 500 china patterns.
Complete with a glossary of dinnerware terms and a brief history of every manufacturer, DINNERWARE OF THE 20TH CENTURY is a highly recommended reference book for anyone who appreciates a well set table.

2 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia Of Made In Japan Ceramics: Identification & Values (Collector's Encyclopedia).
- Rich in illustration, a mind boggling output of work from Japan which seems well documented and categorized.
- The book has clear vivid photos and a overview of all the catagories of Made in Japan collectibles but while she has the marks listed, far too many of them are not identified. There are 189 marks shown of which 101 are not identified. But nice pictures and well organized.

2 comments about Chinese Furniture: A Guide to Collecting Antiques.
- Hi,
Have not yet recieved the book from Amazon com. It was ordered 11/22 2006. Date today is 01/09. Maybe the delivery from Amazon to Sweden is not working??
- For those interested in learning about Chinese furniture, this is a very useful book. It is well written and illustrated and gives a good over-all survey of the field. It isn't written for experts, but for the "lay" person who wants to know something about the field either for personal interest or because he/she is beginning to collect.

3 comments about A Collector's Handbook of Miniature Perfume Bottles: Minis, Mates and More.
- This book is more than a colledtor's handbook, it is my bible. It has brought great joy to my life, I don't know which is more fun-finding my miniatures to purchase or coming home and finding them in Jeri Lyn Ringblums' book. I would purchase any of her work!!!!The color, detail, information about each miniature perfume bottle is wonderful.I would suggest to anyone to buy 2 of her books at a time because the first one will get worn out. Such fun to wear out a Book.
- This is a great book for all collectors of minis. It has good photographs and information. Best of all, the prices are next to the pictures. This saves a lot of time when looking up many bottles at once.
- This book has become my "Collector's bible" since purchase.
The information is concise, informative and the photos are sharp and clear. An excellent book for beginners and established collectors alike because it deals with modern bottles available world wide.
The launch dates are a great asset for those who catalogue and date their collection and the price guide enables buyers to keep perspective when bidding or buying.
One small problem is the indexing which in places is incorrect.
