  1. It was everything that I was looking for and received it in a few days. I am very happy with the whole process.

  2. This is an excellent guide however not as well organized as R.S. Yeoman's the official Red Book a guide book of United States coins, otherwise the pictures, illustrations and description are superb.

  3. Got this to update my husbands old coin book as he buys and sells. He says it's great

5 comments about Old Fishing Lures & Tackle: Identification & Value Guide.
  1. As a lure collector, I have several identification guides.
This book gets used more than the rest, simply because it is more an identification guide than a Value guide. (Sure, it has book value included(which means nothing compared to auction values), but, it also has way more information on the lures and companies themselves than most other ID books).
If you are looking for a complete library (if you want almost any lure identification at your fingertips--or in your head , as you learn about them all--), then you should definately include this one.
But (always a "but"), this book doesn't cover too many of the "small name" companies out there, or folk arts, nor many flies. But, if it's a top name company (Heddon, Creek Chub, South Bend, Shakespeare, etc.), you will find it in this book, up until 1975.
You cannot go wrong with this book...and if mine ever wears away with use, I'll keep purchasing new copies as needed.

  2. We have a previous edition and wanted to update. This edition does not have anything but lures, no reels!

  3. i have started to collect lures and this book has been very helpful good book great shiping fast service

  4. This is a great reference book. All the colored photo's are a great update from the 6th edition. The book contais basic history on lures by manufacturer. This is a must have for lure collectors.

  5. Great book if you are into collecting and/or buying and selling fishing lures. Tons of info, pictures, and values of lures. Definately worth every penny.

1 comments about So-Called Dollars.
  1. So it took 45 years but at long last we have the official second edition of the title 'So-Called Dollars.' So-Called Dollars are roughly defined as silver dollar sized medals that are not issued as trade tokens or storecards; by schools, coin clubs, the military or political organizations/candidates and have been issued in at least one form of metal. The first book was issued in 1963 by Messers. Hibler and Kappen and listed 1000 different medals each assigned it owns HK number. A sort of cult arose around the book with many collectors attempting to either collect the book (all but impossible) or sections of it. The medals cover a wide panoply of subjects and many are available for surprisingly little money. The problem was that the book was never re-issued so that used copies often sold for above one hundred. Four intrepid collectors banded together at the behest of the original publisher and produced this updated version in paperback (a hardbound deluxe edition was also offered to private subscribers). This version is far superior to the original because it has been able to locate and photograph many of the medals not pictured in the original, it has added some of the metallic varieties not listed in the original and it has added and amended a lot of critical information on the medals. Now there are likely around 1200 official HK numbers listed which makes the hobby at least 20% more fun. The only two complaints I have about this edition are: The cover is made from flimsy paper that will wear out quickly and the greatly expanded index makes it difficult to search for a specific medal by name. Still, this book is definitely the so-called BOMB and you must own it!

1 comments about The Golden Age: Manuscript Painting at the Time of Jean, Duke of Berry.
  1. I have owned my copy of this book for many years, for the simple reason that the illustrations in it are all beautifully reproduced samples of what is justifiably seen as a golden age in illuminated manuscript painting c1380-1420.

The book starts with an introduction into the various artists and their techniques and their patrons. This is followed up by full page reproductions, mostly of "carpet pages" from various manuscripts. This includes books such as: - The Bodmer Hours, The Visconti Hours, The Bible of King Wenceslas, The Psalter of Jean De Berry, The Belles Heures of Jean De Berry, The Boucicaut Hours and The Rohan Hours as a small sample.

The plates are beautiful reproductions, with gold in used to highlight various manuscripts. However, luckily, it has not been so heavily printed as to obscure detail. For an overall purely visual look of the range and beauty of manuscripts of this period this book is hard to beat.

1 comments about Heywood-wakefield Blond: Depression to '50s.
  1. On first glance, this looked like a near copy of the green Rouland & Rouland Heywood Wakefield book. It does not have the history of Heywood Wakefield like the green R&R HW book, which makes that book also worth owning. It is the same size as the green R&R HW book and includes many of the same catalog photos. This contains some nice original color catalog photos that were not in the green R&R HW book.

This is the ONLY Heywood Wakefield book with accurate prices for mint and refinished pieces. The green R&R HW book is way off and Harris Gertz's Heywood Wakefield book contains values for furniture found in well used condition. Harris's book has the best photos of Heywood Wakefield furniture.

Buy the books. Buy the furniture. You'll love it.

2 comments about Hot, Sour, Salty, Sweet.
  1. Hot, Sour, Salty, Sweet by Sherri L. Smith
takes place over the course of one day,
starting at a girl's eighth grade graduation. Ana's
entire family and both sets of grandparents come to
her graduation ceremony, which is literally
disastrous: a water pipe breaks, dousing the graduates
just as Ana was beginning her salutatorian speech.
After graduation, at the nudging of her best friend,
she manages to invite her crush Jamie over for dinner.

It sounds simple enough, but it's not. Her
grandparents don't really get along. Ana's mom is
African-American and her dad is Chinese-American. Ana,
her parents, and her bouncy little brother are happy
and well, but the grands always experience a cultural
clash when they are in the same room. The grandmothers
frequently try to one-up each other with gifts and
stories. Now they'll try to do the same as they race
to prepare the perfect dishes for Ana's impromptu
    graduation dinner.

As if it weren't trouble enough having all of the
grandparents in the kitchen cooking up completely
different foods, some unexpected guests arrive,
further complicating things. When Ana steps out of the
kitchen and looks around the dinner table, she's bound
to be surprised. Ultimately, her family's different
cultures and tastes blend together and compliment each
other, and the ending, like the meal, is satisfying
    for Ana.

A quick G-rated read for middle school students that
encourages the blending and appreciation of different
cultures. Maybe a little predictable, but fairly
    innocuous.

I also recommend Smith's previous releases,
Sparrow and Lucy the Giant, to teens.

  2. Ana Shen's biracial family - a Chinese-American father and an Afro-American mother - brings two grandparents in town at the same time - which results in a host of new problems and a confusing blend of cultures for Ana. How best can she honor both her very different grandparents - at a meal during which each expects something different? Add the usual conflicts over friendships and coming of age and you have a sweet mix of dilemmas and encounters.
