  1. It is the answer to all Black doll collector's dreams! I have a number of "doll" books and magazines but none of them have ALL color Black doll photos in additon to valuable collecting information such as that found in this book. I must confess that initially, I looked through it four times on the day it arrived. It's fun seeing how many of the pictured dolls I have in my own collection!

  2. Debbie Garrett's "The Definitive Guide to Collecting Black Dolls" is a magnificent combination of beauty, knowledge, and cultural celebration! It was wonderful learning about the history of antique and vintage black dolls, as well as the current artists and their creations. This guide provides a fabulous array of delightful pictures denoting the significance of black doll collecting, that is both informative and inspiring!

  3. I enjoyed looking thru this book to get ideas of the different kinds of dolls to add to my collection. There were a lot of dolls that I didn't know existed untill I read this book.

  4. Loved this book. I am a collector of black dolls for many years. I saw several of my dolls in the book.

  5. The book is OK. Photos are not all that great (some blurry and out of focus, obviously amature). Most of the dolls are modern and mass produced. I was hoping that there would be more artist creations, one of a kinds, limited editions, and antiques. Instead there are a bunch of plastic/vinyl manufactured dolls with just a few quality pieces sprinkled in. I only recommend this if you collect that style of doll (manufactured/mass-produced).

1 comments about Quilts and Quiltmakers: Covering Connecticut (Schiffer Book for Collectors and Designers,).
  1. Well, I wasn't joking. One of the quilts in this book is from my family. This book is very personal to me. For sometime, I have been trying to see the family quilt. But due to the age of, it wasn't a good idea to pull it out of storge. I was unable to see it person.

But now, I am so glad it was put in this book. And I now know what it looks like. I understand now,why heirlooms need to be sheared with others. This is part of American History that needs to be sheared with everyone.

This book is not a "how-to" book on quilting. This is like a "text book" on the History of quilts and quiltmakers in Connecticut.

This is real "Americana" quilting shown in this book. The stories are wonderful that go with each quilt, and lots, and lots of color pictures. A quilter's must, who loves Historic quilt designs. As you can see I love the book. :o)

  1. I am searching for this book for a friend, it really is of no interest to me.

  2. I have owned this book for several years and still consider it a photographic treasure of antique dolls. With its golden cover of a blonde, antique doll, it has been a regular part of my Christmas decor since I purchased it. Each pair of pages has a charmingly set up photograph on one side, and a few paragraphs written about the doll on the other side. Some of the information is personal and some of it is about the type of doll shown, but it is all briefly written. It is a nice introduction for the beginner, but the experienced collector will find no new information. Buy this book for the wonderful photographs of a wide variety of antique dolls in well thought out displays because it is a photographic documentation, but don't buy it for the written information because there is little.

  3. What a splendid present this will make. First there is the absolute size, and superb quality of this book. It measures OVER a foot square; the photos are full plate almost 3D in sharp precision detail, and the binding is a premium sewn type. As for the subject this volume concentrates on ceramic dolls; so Barbie lovers look elsewhere! For those starting out in this marvelous hobby, the ceramic doll is one with those precise lifelike features, frequently of large size. They typically have soft bodies, and detailed ceramic faces, feet and hands. You'll love the pictures, they are really beautiful, and the costumes are incredible. Unfortunately they are generally above the normal family's toy budget, but truly I have recently seen some fine new ceramics recently for reasonable prices; would you believe the $12 to $20 range! i suspect if you know what to look for you can buy one or more of these and they may appreciate. Doll collecting of these real looking ceramics is best left to careful children like my 3, or adults. My kid's have dozens of these and actually play with them. They do not break them! Of course my girls have 100's of Barbies too, and these are given a bit rougher handling. I recommend storing them separately. The ceramics, while delicate, are just to beautiful to be ignored. This book goes back a 100 years to show the amazing range of expression and costume possible. The whole family will love this special one of a kind folio!

  1. It is ridiculous. The size of the holes in this book is the same as those for quarters. So NONE of them fits.

  2. All my coins are stored in Whitman Albums, Folders and Binders. This one is similar to the State Quarters Flip Album so works well :)

1 comments about Testament: Babel - Volume 3 (Testament).
  1. This latest installment of Douglas Rushkoff's Testament is as engaging and compelling as the first two. The collection has three Bible stories woven into one modern narrative. In the Job story that opens, Rushkoff plays with time-space a little more, and The Rape of Dinah story is a little more loosely materialized, but both are very interesting and imaginative works of fiction. The four part story of Babel is profound in many ways.

My intent is not to spoil any of the story, because as the other two compilations have shown, even though you might know the Bible, don't think you know what happens next in Testament. This surreal and interesting interpretation of the Bible-as-modern has re-enlivened my interest in this most wonderful ancient text. (And I am not a Christian.) Kudos to Rushkoff for this amazing piece of storytelling, and kudos to him for being brave enough to weave other ancient gods and traditions into the simulation that is our lives. (Joseph Campbell would be proud.) This series has become one of my favorite comics, and better yet, one of my favorite works of contemporary fiction in a very short time.
