5 comments about Collectors Encyclopedia of Hall China.
- This is one of the best collector reference books I have ever seen. It is laid out in an easy to read and refer format and the pictures are fantastic. It contains well over 100 pages on teapots alone. Descriptions are clear, interesting and well written.
This is a perfect addition to the Hall China or teapot collector's library.
- The Whitmyers obviously worked for years and simply produced "The Informative Reference" to the wonderful Hall China Company and its long production of products. If you love Hall China, this is the book that you HAVE to have in your library. Packed with facts, photos, information found nowhere else but in this volume. Through the help of dealers, collectors and friends; they were able to show Hall's artistry and employee craftsmanship at its finest.
The color photos pop from the pages as the digital up-to-date photo process allows for this volume. It is so wonderful to see so much Hall China and accessories one might never have a chance to see otherwise if it were not included in this book. Hats off to the Whitmyers and all those who allowed them to photograph such fabulous collections.
- The edition is as complete a guide for the mian lines of Hall China as you can probably find, however I think the photo layout and quality were better int he previous version.
- This is a must have for Hall China enthusiasts. The format is clear and easy to follow. There is so much great information with pictures and pricing info. for a wide variety of Hall China pieces. I carry the book with me whenever I am shopping at Antique Stores looking for Hall China.
- A lady I know worked in Halls china in East Liverpool Ohio, she loves looking at the book and telling stories about the plant and the time she worked there. She has a lot of the china and I find myself collecting it. This book is a great help, and I am very thankful to have found it.

5 comments about The Complete Book of Sauces.
- Just the book I was looking for! Excellent coverage of sauces for beginners to "old hats"! Thanks!
- This book really is "The Complete Book of Sauces". It would be hard to imagine what sauce recipe ISN'T in it. Not only does it contain virtually any kind of sauce recipe you could want, but it offers helpful ideas on what to serve with what. Also, the recipes are "doable" rather than some I've seen in other books that are so complex no one but a professional chef would even attempt them. In addition, the price was right, and it arrived very promptly in pristine condtion.
- I ordered this book because I needed some good sauce recipes. I like pictures. Pictures help me create the dish and also lets me know what it is supposed to look like. This book has NO PICTURES!!! The recipes are some Ive never heard before. I need simple everyday sauces, like chutneys, gravys, dips. I could not find these recipes in this book. This is not a beginner sauce book.
- This was purchased as a gift and I have benefited from the recipes experimented with to date.
The book is nicely bound, has nice pictures, and a good index.
- Great cookbook!!! This book not only has your basic and necessary sauces but very elegant and impressive sauces that are a snap to make. I believe every household should have one.

3 comments about Encyclopedia of Antique American Clocks, Second Edition.
- The Encyclopedia Of Antique American Clocks offers collectors and dealers with a superbly illustrated and comprehensive guide to American clocks. Organized by clock type and category, this authoritative guide offers detailed entry descriptions and current market values, as well as being enhanced with more than 700 photographs including a 16-page color section). The Encyclopedia Of Antique American Clocks is an essential pictorial reference to this specialized category of nostalgic collectibles and includes informative chapters on clock types, the history of clock making, and collectible clocks from the smaller clock makers as well. A glossary, bibliography, photo index, and resources list also contribute to making The Encyclopedia Of Antique American Clocks thoroughly "user friendly" and highly recommended.
- Brand new, year 2001 encyclopedia for clock enthusiasts. It features 352 pages and more than 700 black and white photos and a special full color section. There's plenty of informative text with data on clock types, clock making, leading clock makers, clock histories, wall and classic clocks, shelf clocks and novelty clocks. The pictures provided are large and sharp, making identification easy. Clock lovers will find this a useful work.
- compared to the first book, which is a wonderful book, this one was a waste of time -- i wish i had a chance to look at it before i bought it -- i would not have bought it -- j.d.h.

5 comments about Collectors Encyclopedia of American Composition Dolls: 1900-1950: Identification and Values (Collector's Encyclopedia of American Composition Dolls).
- Wow! This wonderful compendium of American composition dolls is the most comprehensive and beautifully presented book ever written on the subject. What I most appreciated about this volume was that Ms. Mertz gave thorough descriptions of the dolls including markings, manufactured sizes, inconsistencies and even how these dolls were produced. So many other authors seem to "slap-dash" books together without paying attenton to these important details which truly make a collector's book worth its mettle. This book is not only filled with useful identification markings and values...it is also filled with the most professional of photographs that truly capture the spirit of each doll. It is obvious that this project was undertaken with great care, attention to detail and a lot of love for its subject. Even if one is not a doll collector, this is a book that captures a part of American design history and a simpler time when most major doll companies were still a family business..not some impersonal conglomerate. Hats-off to Ursula Mertz (and her husband) for creating this treasure of historical and collector's information. I think it belongs in the library of every doll collector and every historian of popular Americana.
- This is the BEST book I have ever seen on Composition Dolls! Not only does it include marked dolls, but identifies unmarked dolls based on their characteristics. Also has many dolls that the Blue Book does not have. Great color photographs! The only thing that this book does not have is an index of marks (initials & numbers) for quick reference. I love this book!
- Thoroughly enjoyed all the information provided. This book will continue to be a reference for anyone interested in composition dolls both recent and antique, the photographs are wonderful.
- This is by far the best book on composition dolls printed to date. Ms. Mertz begins her book with a little background on the construction of composition dolls and traits peculiar to them alone. Lesser known compaies receive equal representation in this book ,with a section devoted to Patsy look-a-likes that shows many dolls some of us never knew existed. The photography is outstanding and quality is consistent throughout. I particularly like the section on Effanbee dolls;there are some early F&B's that I have never seen anywhere else.
For the serious collector it is an invaluable resource; for the doll lover, it is a work of art . For both, it is the ultimate 'wishbook'!
- I have the other Ursula R. Mertz book on compo dolls and both are just great! I would recommend both books!
1) Photos: Large, bright, highly detailed!
2) Descriptions: Very accurate. Ursula is probably one of the most knowledgeable people on this subject around today!
3) Well written. Well researched.

3 comments about Warman's Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide (Warman's Antiques and Collectibles Price Guide).
- I bought this book and actually returned it because on just about every page there is an advertisement for their other books. I found that very distracting and annoying. I do have their glass book which is very good but in the Antiques and Collectibles book they should just list their other books at the end and use the space for more info which it needs.
- General collectors who haunt garage sales and flea markets will want to keep the latest, 39th edition of Warman's Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide, edited by Warman's editor Ellen T. Schroy, in their cars or close at hand. Now sporting almost 1,800 color photos, this updated edition offers the latest prices and descriptions for over 50,000 items, ranging from furniture and military collectibles to pottery and puzzles. With its many small color photos and descriptions, it brings excellent organization across the board to a range of antiques and collectibles.
- We am more than happy to add this book to our collection of books. While we have many reference books on various antiques, this book is a one stop reference guide to marks, reproduction alerts and valuable information on a wide variety of antiques. The pictures are a treasure and the price guide accurate for the times. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in antiques. For the beginner it is a comprehensive guide; for veteran collectors it is a fast reference on various antiques.

2 comments about Black Dolls: Proud, Bold & Beautiful.
- 3 words to describe this book
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent.
This book is full of information. I have learned a lot about doll artist and other doll related information.
Thanks for such an wonderful, informative book.
- If you are a "real" doll collector, you would have this book not only in your personal library but as the centerpiece on your console. The photos in this book are so gorgeous you are left breathless---your heart starts pumping as you see even more artists that you would just love to have in your collection. These photos most definitely place doll making as an art form up there with the Monets of the world. Let's not forget the biographies that attach the photos. This book is not boring but a page turner. I love, love, love this book. I plan to give them as gifts so I can bring non-doll collectors to the bright side! Dorothy-Dandridge.com
