3 comments about A Grand Old Tree.
- This is a cute book for the preschool age about the things that trees provide to animals and how even after they die their children and grandchildren leave a lasting impression on this earth. It is a great way to introduce the topic of nature and the illustrations are lovely. The text is simple but well written. I've read this with my 2 year old and he has really enjoyed it.
- This was ordered for our Shade Tree Commission to do as an Arbor Day program at the public library - Great choice
- This is a good nature book that explains, in very general terms, a tree's ecosystem and reproductive cycle. It also deals gently and honestly with the topic of death -- the tree dies and falls down; perceptive children may make the connection between plant and animal life cycles, so if you are exploring that subject, this is a very good book to get the ball rolling. Nice straightforward story and simple, elegant text to match. (ReadThatAgain book reviews)

3 comments about Traditional Jewelry of India.
- An excellent and well researched study with extraordinary photographs by a well known scholar of Indian art. 430 interesting pages that are very well presented to the reader. You'll find possibly more detail than you may need, but you can return later for the items you missed.
- Oppi's book is magnificent. It is a culmination of over thirty years of Oppi's research. His book covers more than just Indian jewelry, but forehead marks and henna mendhi.
Inspired by trips to New York's museums when he was young, Oppi crafts a anthropological journey through a fascinating history of human ornamentation, beginning with wood ash and mud. Oppi traveled extensively to personally research his subject in association with scholarships he won, including a Fulbright scholarship and funding from John D Rockefeller III. He shows the use of natural items in jewelry, such as leaves, flowers, seeds, vines and wood. Unusual jewelry materials like anteater claws are pictured. Of course, gemstones and precious metals are included. There are photos of elegant gold filigree and fist-sized gemstones. My favorite part of the book is called "Typology from Head to Toe" in which Oppi takes you on a journey in pictures of people wearing ornaments in their hair to those worn on the toes. The book includes an extensive index and bibliography. It is a very human book, showing how ornaments are worn by people, not just showing photos of the ornaments alone as many other ethnic jewelry books do. Although you might think the subject of Indian jewelry is narrow before you see the book, a glance through the book will make you want to own it even though the sticker price is high.
- Oppi's thoroughness and attention to the detail in this book is amazing. Pictures and illustrations are just magnificent. Oppi covers the jewelry of maharajas to jewelry of tribal people. The jewelry descriptions in this book include every region and every style there is in India. I bought this book when I was asked to talk about India's jewelry at an art museum. This book definitely improved my knowledge about the subject.

4 comments about Collectors Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution.
- This book is an alphabetically organized list of hundreds of artifacts from the Revolutionary War, with photos of everything listed. Each item is described in detail, from powder horns to clothing to medical instruments. If you are a re-enactor of this period and you don't have this book, get it!
- George C. Neumann and Frank J. Kravic have really done it this time. Hands down this is the best book written on artifacts of the American Revolution. From A to Z you can look up nearly anything that was used in the War For Independence. Great for amateurs and pros alike it is an indispensable reference tool especially with museums and private collections. Very popular with online auctions as this book is referred to often. Great photographs that are clear with a brief description of every item. Some of these artifacts are now on display at Valley Forge. For collectors and historians alike this work is unparalleled and for over 20 years has been the "bible" for collecting artifacts of the American Revolution. No other work has come close. Highly recommended.
- This is a CLASSIC reference book on Revolutionary War artifacts!
This one first came out around the time of the bicentennial, and has set the standard from day one. With photographs of original (and in some cases, excavated) and reproduction equipment, this book is a gold mine of information. Where photographs are not available, black and white line drawings by George Woodbridge fill the gap. Woodbridge is one of the BEST illustrators of military subject matter. He captures the details that matter. Members of the Brigade of the American Revolution were used to further display everyday items used by 18th century soldiers. Museum curators, reenactors, collectors, illustrators and makers of reproduction equipment MUST HAVE THIS BOOK on their shelves. My only criticism ? Color photos and exact measurements would have been nice. ...
- The photographs, drawings, and descriptions in this book have allowed us to identify unusual and rare artifacts. This is a must-have for anyone interested in eighteenth century material culture.

4 comments about Imari, Satsuma and Other Japanese Export Ceramics.
- Of great interest to dealers and collectors of Japanese export ceramics, this book contains full color photographs of a large number of fine specimans of Imari, Satsuma, Banko and Sumida. Significant number of pieces from the Arts and Crafts period. Sections on markings, bibliography and valuations. I think the valuations are on the low side of current retail prices.
- Outstanding book for amateur and serious collectors to enjoy - pieces are identified with text and superb coloured photos.
- The pictures are wonderful and plentiful as well as history of the styles. What's painfully lacking are examples and explanations of marks. Two and a half pages representing 27 marks with minimum information on any of them. I felt like it was a pretty book to look through, but a poor reference for those looking for information on how to buy Imari or Satsuma. I found no information at all about reproductions or modern pieces that have flooded the market and make it difficult for less than well informed buyers to get genuine pieces of antique Imari or Satsuma.
- Many collectors appreciate the extra knowledge on our favorite subjects and this book provides that and more. The exquisite photos of different and varied pieces of porcelain and pottery give the reader not only an appreciation of what he has but also information on items he loves but has no idea what they are. That said, after looking through the book I discovered I had a valuable pitcher that I had always treasured but didn't know if it was old, valuable, or special. I wish the book had given more on the difference between valuable and fake. I still find it hard to discern between the two.

3 comments about A Dollmaker's Art: The Creations Of Nancy Wiley.
- This book is beautiful. Everyone one who loves artists' dolls should get this.
- Nancy Wiley is tops in her field. Her creativity is awe inspiring. You can't help but exercise your imagination when thumbing through this book. The incredible color pictures and the journey into her mind is invaluable material for want to be doll makers. Don't want to make dolls? This book is still a great exercise in opening your mind to the world of true creativity. I have been eyeing this book for two years. I couldn't find it in the library so I am thrilled that Amazon offered it.
- I am still making my way through this book. There is so much to see. Every piece is so intricate and detailed each time I look I see something new.

2 comments about The First Two Years (Living Books).
- I have given this book to several friends who are first-time parents and they've told me it's a lifesaver! Its clear, concise information is great for quick referrals about those common questions parents have for problems newborns experience. It's a great follow-up to a book like "What to Expect When You're Expecting." And the advice is solid, as many physicians contributed to the content.Highly recommended!
- My wife and I are getting ready for our first baby, so I am on the lookout for any and all books that can prepare us for all aspects of parenthood (i.e., medical, psychological, and logistical issues). This book addresses many areas of parenthood, including the relationship between a mother and father during the baby's first two years.
However, this book is basically chapters 4-8 of the 14 chapters in "Complete Book of Baby & Child Care" (ISBN: Hardcover 084230889X; Paperback 0842335129) (same author, same chapter titles) with 3 of the 18 Special Concerns sections. If you want a book about only the first 2 years, buy this one and save a few dollars. If you want a book that will take you to the teenage years, buy the more comprehensive one.

4 comments about Like Never Before.
- Mary J. Blige said it best in her song "It ain't all roses" and in her latest release, Sylvia Lett shows readers that everything worth having is worth working for.
Danielle Roberts met the man of her dreams, Greg Thomas, in college. Although they were in a class together, they had yet to be introduced until one night they were thrown together at a party. Soon after that, they became inseparable and continued to date after graduation.
Both were successful in their careers. Danielle became a corporate lawyer while Greg practiced criminal law. Their romance was like a fairytale and six months after graduation, Greg asked Danielle to marry him. Their engagement lasted two years before the couple allowed outside forces to drive them apart. When Greg was offered a position out of state, he accepted it leaving Danielle behind.
Greg made an awful mistake. He put his career before the woman he loves and has regretted that decision every since. For the past two years, he's tried everything to get Danielle out of his system but has failed. Determined to correct his mistake, Greg returns home with a plan of getting Danielle back. Will Greg's plan work? Or will outside forces continue to come between them?
Sylvia Lett has written a interesting love story that shows the ups and downs of relationships. Her use of secondary characters helps the reader understand the challenges the couple face and flows well with the story. LIKE NEVER BEFORE is a good read that will leave romance fans satisfied.

for The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers
- Whew! While I found this an interesting read, it wore me out. Up,Down,Up,Down and on and on . . . The plot was good and well-developed, but there was always something standing in their way. Just when you thought they'd get together, someone (her family or his) was working to destroy this couple. If you like a little passion sprinkled with lots of twists, then this is the book for you!
- I am so sorry I wasted my money on this book. The female lead in this book is supposed to be an educated lawyer, but she acts like a 16 year old who doesn't know how to deal with her ex-boyfriend. This whole book is stupid, and what person (Rolonda) who works in the medical field goes about telling someones personal business.... THEY DONT, IT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE. My advice to the author is to never NEVER ever write another novel again.
- Danielle Roberts is a successful attorney who seems to have it all together...but looks can be deceiving. She has a secret that is affecting her love life. She thought she would be able to come to terms with it and put it all behind her...that is until her own on-again, off-again ex-fiancé moves back to town.
Greg Thomas is also a successful attorney who has moved back home to win back the only woman he has ever really loved besides his mama. When he left town two years ago to advance his career, he had no idea that his life would be so incomplete without Dani. Now that he has returned, he is determined to do whatever it takes to make her Mrs. Gregory Allen Thomas.
Sylvia Lett's style of writing just flows. There are never lagging moments in the storyline. This story also has lots of secondary characters, but she makes the characters so real that you are able to identify with almost all of them. The book is mainly about two families, and you can match each character with a member of your family, whether it's the obnoxious cousin that everyone hates to see coming or the parent who tries to control everything. Like Never Before was very easy to read with a great storyline. A must read!!!
